For the longest time i thought "Slight scarlet rot buildup" meant it inflicted a weaker variant of Rot, like the serpent bow's "Strong poison buildup". I suppose this thought of mine saved me from ever trying the weapon and being disappointed by it ._.

i hate these things.. Astel's metoerites did nothing to them!!! bubbles kinda worked but not well enough before they killed me.. then came back with night mist... they died in their sleep.. almost felt sorry for them.. almost..

I do PvE only, Int/dex build and wonder if I should swap out my +10 moonveil for this.

The normal crystal sword does 10 damage more at +10 anyway, gonna sell this

Aight I'm back. Upgraded this to +10 and it slaps. Knights, trolls, and nothing fleshy really.

STR weapon, more range (compared to the min/max range of their own category) and damage than a Heavy Antspur Rapier in a STR build. Do you prefer to use / powerstance straight swords or thrusting swords ? It's up to you.

Flying through ng 4 with this. Throw a mimic with these and watch the rot proc instantly. Mushroom crown and rot Tali winged Tali make this almost 1k

A shame that this one can't be farmed from the crystalian enemies, makes this weapon only really somewhat viable power stances even harder to utilise.

The antspur rapier is far more easily accessible, with far more utility than this shard of late game glass. You can put poison and bleed with the innate rot on that thing. Even scummier if you use both rot and blood exultation talismans.
This one? Spinny glass shard infected with covid. Too late game to fully commit to.
- Anonymous
Antspur rapier is literally easier to get and far more versatile than this shard of glass any time.

Haven't found this one yet, but it's making me regret upgrading my Crystal Sword to +6. Couldn't let it sit in my inventory forever!

To my knowledge this is the only weapon that says "causes slight scarlet rot buildup" instead of "causes scarlet rot buildup" in the effect tab, despite having 50 buildup which is the standard
- Anonymous
This and the regular version really remind me the crystal greatsword sold by Dohmnall of Zena in Dark Souls.
- Anonymous
Why do all the crystalian weapons need somber stones? They all use basic skills and have no good use.
- Anonymous
I came here to see if this weapon was actually good and acceptable for use besides the scarlet rot, instead got a bunch of people talking about how you kill the crystal guys guarding the chest. It's not complicated at all, just grab it and go.
- Anonymous
If, like me, you have Faith but no skills, just spam Blade of Death skill at the Crystalians and they fall to pieces.
- Anonymous
Somehow although the game constantly establishes scarlet rot as something linked to faith, these things need Int.
So often you have swords where you would think its an obvious paladin or priest weapon, and then it scales with Int for no apparent reason.

Night Maiden's Mist did not aggro them for me. they just sat there and exploded.

Just lure them out one by one with kukris and backstab or jump attack each one depending on what attacks they do
- Anonymous
Before they notice you just shoot one with an arrow or throwable, go back down the root and 1v1 it. Do the same for the second, and so on. Or just run up and open the chest. If you die it will still be open when you come back.

It says "Rorren" Crystal Sword when it describes where to find it.
- Anonymous
What i don’t understand is, why is it stuck with spinning slash?
- Anonymous
Godfrey was kicking me around so I started experimenting with different weapons and actually managed to kill him with this. Procs scarlet rot really well since it's so quick and deals 450+ damage per hit at +9
- Anonymous
Why's everyone making it more complicated than it needs to be. You can just run up to the chest, open and loot it, then run away and maybe get hit once. Then you just rest at the grace and ignore the bullshit encounter.

Ghiza wheel + Lionel set/Bull Goat set + ( Stone barb cracked tear + Leaden Hardtear ) physick + Blackflame protection + Golden Vow = EZ stance break weapon art with damage reduction and poise

There is a small niche to the right, in the roots, where you can trap the spear users. I used Night Maiden's Mist a few times and had a lunch break while they died. :)
- Anonymous
Guys you can bait the spear one over the tree branch and 1v1 it, and when I killed that one, the other one had made it's way over. The mage one didn't move till I backstabbed it

Not one, not two, not three, but FOUR int based straight swords with C/D/D scaling on their final upgrade. Is this right? Is From playing some sort of prank? The movesets aren’t completely the same, sure, but do they really all scale so similarly?

For any melee users, try this: Equip a Greatshield with 100% physical (I used Eclipse) and put the Stamp (Upward Cut) skill on your weapon, I used the Morning Star. The spear attacks are deflected giving you enough time to do your skill and send them flying into the air. Just use the skill again as he's getting up and you can get them into a juggle loop if you time it right. If not, just block and repeat. The staff guy you can strafe around and backstab along with the skill as he's getting up.

I’m not sure if it’s set up that way but I got the Rotten Crystal Spear off of one of the Crystalians in addition to the Rotten Crystal Sword in the chest.

For anyone looking at this like "I want a scarlet rot weapon for my int build", be aware that the Antspur Rapier is available much earlier (as soon as you get to altas plateau) and can be ashed with magic to give it significantly better int scaling then this without losing any of its scarlet rot buildup, and if you put spinning weapon on it it becomes insane for rotting bosses
- Anonymous
Was thinking of dual wielding with my friend dropping one of these for me for PVP purposes with an high int and spells to go with this. So these swords would be used just for rot pressure. Don't know how good it would be though but if anyone has experience of pvp'ing with these let me know.

For those who don't want to deal with the annoyance surrounding the chest What I did was make a run for the Chest to open it and then quickly leave (this is just enough time for them to stand up) without getting the sword. Lure the two spear guys out, they will follow you and wait for the mage to get over the top of the big root. You can make a run straight to the chest and then get out of there.

Is the scaling worse compared to its non-rotten version? if not then i dont see any reason not to use this one instead, it looks like it only does about 15 less damage which is a great deal for adding scarlet rot, so i have to assume the scaling is worse, anyone know?

Rapier have "SCARLET ROT build up " vs this "SLIGHT SCARLET ROT" :/ . Are they different or just typo.

I fought Placidussax with it and it applied Rot so easily
