Rotten Winged Sword Insignia is a Talisman in Elden Ring. Rotten Winged Sword Insignia greatly raises attack power with successive attacks. Players can use talismans in Elden Ring to boost a variety of Stats.
A talisman depicting a raised prosthetic blade. An honor bestowed upon the valkyries who serve the goddess of rot.
Greatly raises attack power with successive attacks.
The Four sisters were born in the swamp of Aeonia, and came to the Haligtree under the aegis of Gowry. And yet, those buds were doomed to never blossom.
Rotten Winged Sword Insignia Effect in Elden Ring
Rotten Winged Sword Insignia greatly raises attack power with successive attacks.
- Increases attack power relative to the number of attacks you land. Has three tiers of attack power increase. Tiers decay to lower tiers when not attacking fast enough. Effect activates after three hits, regardless of weapon class.
- Decay duration: 1.5 seconds.
- For each tier, attack power increases by 6%, 8%, and then 13%.
- The attack power boost also affects the damage of certain Spells.

Elden Ring Rotten Winged Sword Insignia Notes & Tips
- Sell value:
500
- Incompatible with Winged Sword Insignia.
- Stacks with Millicent's Prosthesis.
- It does not work with Ghiza's wheel ash of war (spinning wheel)
- Anonymous
For int builds, carian regal scepter's ash of war builds up the buff consistently. Combine it with adula's moonblade/gavel of haima and enjoy being a pure mage with summoned melee ultras.

Use this on a colossal Greatsword to max instaproc on a group of enemies in one swing

I apologize if these have already been answered, but I have three quick questions that I would appreciate any insight on.
1. Do you need 3 hits to progress from each damage tier, or is it only three hits to activate the first tier and then it's different for subsequent tiers? In other words, would you need 6 hits for tier 2 and 9 hits for tier 3, or are those thresholds different? I tried testing it myself but I couldn't figure out if there was some indication for when you're in a different tier as opposed to the general effect just being active.
2. Is the effect handled as a buff, and if so, what kind? I want to know if it stacks with Flame, Grant Me Strength.
3. When you haven't hit an attack in 1.5 seconds, does the effect completely go away or does it decrease a tier? So if you were on tier 3 and you didn't land an attack in the decay duration, would the damage boost completely go away or would it drop down into tier 2, giving you another 1.5 seconds before it decreased to tier 1, etc.?

Rocking this with a caestus + barbaric roar + roar medallion & axe talisman is NUTTY. I'm doing nearly 600 damage per swing after my 3rd hit. Throw in the blue dancer charm or exalted flesh you'll really shred.
- Anonymous
I vastly underestimated this talisman. Even with a build that's centered around doing jump attacks this is still decent dmg boost if you get 2 in a row.

It also works very well with pulley crossbow i think i remember.

I'm gonna test this when I get home but would this activate off of Ancient Deathrancor spell?

I feel dumb asking this, but it's not specifically stated anywhere. Do you lose the effect/build up if you get hit? Or do your hits have to be without taking damage.

If a twinblade hits twice in one light attack does that mean three rb/r1 hits make this tier 2 of it?

"Effect activates after three hits, regardless of weapon class" is not entirely accurate. It activates at +6% in just one hit from an R2 with fists, which means each R2 hit from a paired weapon is weighted more than R1s, and R2s must be considered to be at least x1.5 in general. Also, when braggart's roar is activated, the talisman uses the AR from the weapon buff as a base. This may mean it stacks additively with weapon buffs in general. Paired weapons with weapon buffs, or at least the buffs from roar skills, may be an ideal way to use this. Alternatively, any weapon that features multi-hit R2s would also benefit more per hit.

Still don't get it with the attack increase from this talisman, is it due to a bug from the tier decay, it become stacking each other? Did some test with Bloodhound fang+9 and Eleonora's poleblade+9 , and the AR goes like this :
Bloodhound fang+9 - Base AR : 679 -> 720 / 734 / 778 /
Eleonora's poleblade+9 - Base AR : 535 -> 567 / 578 / 605 /
Said the talisman give you 3 stage of damage increase, but from the status window it goes beyond :
6% / 8% / 13% / 13%+8% (22.04%) (In nutshell, it look like have 4 tier of attack increases )
Combine RWSI with Thorny Cracked Tear, it goes even freaking weirder, the bonus way above this 4th tier fairy tale increment,
hypothetically for each increment is :
RWSI : 6% / 8% / 13%
Flask tear : 9% / 13% / 20%
Sum it up, it should goes to : 15.54% / 22.04% / 35.6%
But after some test, it actually goes like this :
15.6% / 22.09% / ??%
While the first 2 tier remain consistent, starting from 3th tier have differ attack increase for each weapon type
GS -
Bloodhound fang+9 - Base AR : 679 -> 785 / 829 / 887 / 958
TB -
Eleonora's poleblade+9 - Base AR : 535 -> 618 / 653 / 726 / 886
Please somebody confirm it with another weapon type..
Will update it later, after i deal with that rotten scarlet inbreed

This thing is a troll talisman. There's nothing you could say to convince me that Miyazaki wasn't having a laugh when he gave this shitty talisman a four second duration with tier's up to 6/8/13% meanwhile LoBE gets a 20% buff for 20 seconds simply for being in the vicinity of blood loss occurring. Talk about nerfing something into uselessness. Waste of a talisman slot.

Wimps kill Milli for her prosthetic...chads use this instead. Lift more.

It would be interesting to know if this works with Ashes Of War like Golden Land, Glint Blade Phalanx, Storm Caller, Storm Blade, Vacuum Slice, Blackflame Tornado, Flame of the Redmanes and so on. Any experiences, someone?
- Anonymous
How is this thing better than her prosthesis which gives you +5 dex. I can understand if this one had 8 12 15% but at this state it's just a bad joke.
- Anonymous
Ultimately not worth saving Millicent for when you can just kill her for her Prosthesis talisman much earlier in the game than at the end of her quest. That way you can stack the normal Winged Sword Insignia with the Prosthesis for maximum 23% damage increase, over being stuck with just the Rotten Winged which is only 13% because you cannot stack with the normal version.
Get it in NG+ though. Might has well have the extra 3%.
- Anonymous
Pretty useless considering the buff lasts 4 seconds. Smaller enemies will be dead anyway, and bosses just start their next combo forcing you to roll while your buff quickly expires.
- Anonymous
It might be nice to have a list of AoWs this talisman works with. I know generally it only activates with AoWs that use the physical weapon for an attack but what abt hybrid skills like Black Flame Tornado?
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Can you get this and millicent's prosthesis in 1 playthrough? Or do you need ng+ to get both?
- Anonymous
Dual Antspur Rapier with the Blood Affinity and Seppuku with White Mask (Shameful, it looks disgusting,) Lord of Blood's Exultation, Kindred of Rots Exultation, Millicent's Prosthesis, and this Rotten Winged Sword Insignia give a whopping 83% damage buff
- Anonymous
can you get this AND Millicent's Prosthesis in 1 run? (so no NG+)

I get it's the winged "sword" talisman like some smart-arse has already pointed out. But the description says "greatly increases attack power with successive attacks" it doesn't specify sword attacks, the curved sword talisman doesn't just boost guard counters from curved swords it works for straight swords and spears as well and "curved sword" is part of that talisman's name so asking if this one works on bows isn't the stupid question some gatekeepers here are trying to make it out to be.
I came here to ask if the rain of arrows AoW and the weapon art from the lion greatbow triggers the rotten winged sword's effect but seeing some of the arsehole replies others have got asking about bows I've got my answer.

Is there a reason why any succesive attack talismans dont work with bows ??
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
does this work with maliketh's black blades ash of war? i cant tell, i mean the weapon art hits multiple times so fast, but at the same time i feel like the hits doesnt activate the tailsman
- Anonymous
Does this work if you spread the hits across two different types of weapon? Like if you make one hit with a straight sword in your main hand, the second with a halberd in your off hand, and the third with the straight sword again.

Does this talisman activate with the incantation fire's deadly sin?

Does anybody know if this is activated by, or increases the damage of, Stormcaller / Thunderstorm?
- Anonymous
2handing Starscourge GS, this activates with a jump attack. Or any R1 where both hits connect.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
"Effect activates after 3 hits, regardless of weapon class." is false. Straight sword and Katana take 4 r1 hits to activate, Dagger takes 6 hits, great sword takes 3, and UGS takes 2.
Would be great if someone could add the spells this talisman has an effect on.

Would this work with Ancient Dragon Lightning Strike or any lightning incantation?

do powerstanced attacks count as one or multiple attacks for this

Does this talisman work for consecutive jump attacks, if I do them fast enough?

Hoarah Loux groundshaker triggers the multi hit before slamming down, it's actually quite strong, also it works with stormcaller

it would be nice to know if this talisman works on spells that do muti-hit

Didn't get this because Millicent decided to waterfowl flash off the cliff after the last sister was defeated lol. Be careful when fighting them.

so this stacks with the millicents prosthesis but can i stack this with millicents prosthesis and the thorny cracked tear?
- Anonymous
You only get up to a 13% buff for the successive hits? I thought it was like 30% or something for RWSI.
- Anonymous
Rotten winged sword insignia + Millicents prosthesis while attacking consistently seems to get about 28% damage boost but also for some reason I don't know why it has spikes of very high damage I tested with fists turned 39 damage into 49 consistently but had spikes of reaching 56 and 61 attack power which would mean it reaches 44% and 58% damage increases but they were only showing that for a split second each time it reached those numbers so I think the Max is 28% with the 2 talismans and the other numbers are just glitches or just showing incorrect numbers
- Anonymous
Tested this on a docile enemy with Millicents prosthesis and waterfowl dance turned my damage from 680 to 1277 88% damage boost from the 2 talismans was the highest I could see I had to equip Max stamina talismans for my other 2 slots to reach that number though and it cost me 5 or 6 casts to reach it and I ended with no stamina left and stacks already dropping off they need to change these talismans to refresh stacks on repeated hits instead of it being a simple timer on each proc then you have to wait for it to fall of to refresh it very annoying to maintain stacks

Anyone know if 1 shard spiral spell will activate the 3 attack buffs or will 3 shard spirals be needed?
- Anonymous
I wonder if this is good with fist weapons and just spamming the light attack

Something here can't be right... I found it somewhere but haven't finished milicents quest. I just gave her the needle hours ago and yesterday i found this thing at the hailigtree. Guess i won't be able to get the needle back?!

they need to stop the people dropping items like this for money.

people say this is worse than the prosthesis but in my experience assuming youve leveled dex decently than the extra 2% from this adds more damage than the +5 dex although of course thats after attacking so its less consistent but this does seem to increase dps more assuming you consistently activate it

Anyone knows if this works with bows or not? Trying my hand at a bow only run and idk how to increase my damage further

Ultimate berserk mode: this + milicent talisman + thorny cracked tear + lords of blood exultation + white mask + some fast bleeding weapon (katana, claws), I like to make them occult and level arcane for lots of bleeding in this... and the MOST IMPORTANT thing for this to work: Ironjar perfurme, gives you 40% damage negation AND infinite poise, easely craftable... so, just mindlessly attack any boss nonstop and melt them... no one stand a chance

Does this work for spells that hit the enemy multiple times like stars of ruin

Rotten Winged Sword Insignia + Millicent's Prothesis are really good

PSA: If you borrow this off your friend and want to give it back when you get your own, she won’t give it to you since you already have it. :/

Carian Slicer and Carian Greatsword both trigger this effect. Obviously the greatsword is better with AOE on triggering it since it is much slower. Slicer can be spammed to gain fast stacks

Does this work with Maliketh’s Black Blade weapon art? Idk if all the death slashes actually count as hits
- Anonymous
Does it works well with colossal weapon like the Starscourge Greatsword since it's a dual weapon ?
- Anonymous
Crazy good with Mogh's spear, Radahn's swords and Marais executioner sword weapon skills. Dual wielders (was fun decimating bosses in ng+ with a couple of rapiers) and fast weapon users in general are sure to appreciate this talisman.
- Anonymous
Does this work with the ash of war for Maliketh's Black Blade?
- Anonymous
What does it mean by successive attacks as in if you keep landing your attacks the damage will get higher every next hit?
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
How many hits do you have to land for effects of the talisman to start up? Like, is it 3 consecutive hits or more?
- Anonymous
Anybody have any idea how long it takes for the stacks to decay? Do I need a fast weapon? Or is this viable for things like greatswords that attack a medium-ish speed?
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Does this work w marias executioner sword? I’m trying to make build for that weapon and if it works w the weapon art I’d be a very happy camper.

Does this work on sorceries and incantations? Like does Stars of Ruin count as successive attacks?

Do the 3 damaging combo talismans work together? Winged Sword Insignia, Rotten WS Insignia and Millicent's Prosthesis.
- Anonymous
Does this increase per weapon hit?
e.g. I have twinblades on both hands. Meaning it will increasing per hit of those when I jump attack?
- Anonymous
Essential talisman considering how many hits enemies can take during late game.
It seems that after you gain, lets say n - th attack bonus, you have some time to attack another time and gain n+1 - th bonus, if that didnt happend, bonus drops to n-1 - th level.

max on screen ar boost from this when using Marais's Weapon Skill was a 46% increase, going from 569 to 831.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
so how does this work? Does it increase the bonus with every hit then decay quickly? or does it gain stack after a few hits each then decay slowly?
This means you should kill Millicent, at the right time, to get her prosthesis, and stack it with the regular winged insignia for max buff, because it is not possible to acquire both Prosthesis and Rotten insignia in one Journey.
