Roundtable Knight Vyke, also known as Vyke, Knight of the Roundtable is a Boss in Elden Ring. Vyke is a Tarnished warrior from the past wielding a spear and using Dragon Cult Incantations. This is an optional boss as players don't have to defeat it to advance in Elden Ring, but will be rewarded with useful items and Runes for doing so.

For the Invader variation of this boss near Church of Inhibition, see Festering Fingerprint Vyke.

No other Tarnished was closer to the throne of the Elden Lord than Vyke. But without announcement, Vyke traveled far below the capital, and was scorched by the flame of frenzy.

Did he make his choice for his maiden, or did some other force lure him with suggestion?

Absorptions:

The absorption numbers are the % of your damage that gets blocked.
For example if an absorption is 60.40% of that damage by
that type will go through and 60% is absorbed. Bigger number = less damage.
An absorption of 100 means no damage goes through, and a resistance of -100 mean
the enemy takes 2x damage from that source. 0 means damage goes pretty much as is.

Resistances:

The resistance numbers is the buildup amount to trigger it. For example if a resistance is 100 you must deal 100 points of whatever aux buildup to trigger it. Note that these go down over time, and increase each time the effect procs.

Roundtable Knight Vyke Fight Strategy

The Best Tips for Vyke:

Melee Users

One main thing to note when facing Vyke is that he mainly uses lightning attacks, but is also weak to lightning. You can come prepared with a few options: Boltdrake Talisman will have the ability to boost Lightning Damage negation while the Lightning Scorpion Charm raises Lightning Damage, but lowers damage negation. With neither of those items on hand, there is a consumable that would also temporarily boost lightning negation. Lightningproof Dried Liver can easily be Crafted or found from a few locations in Leyndell Royal Capital and Altus Plateau. Users also recommend a Faith Lightning Spear since his buff makes him vulnerable to lightning and he can be easily staggered due to his low poise.

When facing Vyke, watch for his leaping attacks and Fortissax’s Lightning Spear. He uses a few other Lightning attacks that can only be used when he buffed himself with the Lightning buff. Without it, he will be forced to use his melee attacks with his spear. There will be a short period as he buffs himself that would give players an opening to strike. This is animated by him raising his spear and a bolt of lightning strikes him, giving him his power. Be aware of these openings and quickly back away as the action ends because he will immediately follow up with a few of his lightning attacks. This will give you space to avoid them.

When his lightning attacks end, he may sometimes run towards you to close the distance which will give you an opportunity to reposition or even charge at him. Most of his melee actions are quick with a short range so you can easily roll back away from them and follow up with an attack as well. If you happen to have a shield and are too close to avoid his charge attack, you can instead, guard counter this action. Continue with a combination of avoiding his lightning strikes, rolling back away from his melee attacks then charging forward in between attacks to eventually clear his HP.

Magic and Ranged Users

When you prepare to face him, be aware that his main attacks and weaknesses are both to lightning. You may equip the relevant talismans to boost lightning negation or damage such as the Boltdrake Talisman which will have the ability to boost Lightning Damage negation or the Lightning Scorpion Charm which raises Lightning Damage but lowers damage negation. Lightningproof Dried Liver will also be able to boost lightning negation.

With magic, you can use the large arena to your advantage. In the Evergaol, circle around him and continuously use your ranged attacks such as Rock Sling since he staggers easily. Night Comet is also said to be effective against him and his quick dodges. It can also be used to interrupt his heals. Avoid attempting to afflict any Status Effects on him since he is immune. He will begin with a set of melee attacks until you see his charge-up animation which opens him up to use his lightning attacks. Create some distance and he will be forced to give chase in order to deal his melee charge attacks. During this time, you can attempt to deal more attacks from a distance while continuously repositioning yourself to deplete his HP.

Roundtable Knight Vyke Attacks & Counters

Attack Description Counter
Melee combo Vyke attacks with his weapon, either with running attack or regular melee combo Back away or parry
Storm Assault Vyke creates a gust of wind around him and shortly after he leaps into the air and plunges into ground dealing massive damage.  He has hyper-armor during that attack, so the best solution is to run away. A good moment to prepare a heavy attack. This attack has slight AOE.
Lightning Strike Vyke calls down several lightning strikes on the player's location. If you see yellow sparks on the ground, dodge to the sides immediately.
Vyke’s Dragonbolt Vyke casts a buff, that grants 15% increased Equip Load and buffs his weapon to inflict Lightning Damage.  Use Lightning-type weapon, as it reduces Lightning Damage negation by 35%
Fortissax's Lightning Spear Vyke jumps up and slams down two lightning spears, creating lightning waves that travel outward. Back away as far as you can. After the second spear explodes, perform a jumping attack.

Vyke, Knight of the Roundtable Notes & Trivia

  • Wields special variant of Vyke's War Spear with Storm Assault Ash of War and a sacred seal (likely Gravel Stone Seal)
  • Defeating this variant does NOT prevent the invader from appearing.
  • Vyke appears on Elden Ring's cover art, kneeling down and holding a sword.
  • In 1.00 version, in Evergaol there was a current Festering Fingerprint Vyke named Vyke the Dragonspear

Why are 90% of bosses either immune to all status effects or so resistant they may as well be immune? Trying to do a status effect build in this game is hell.

idk why but his storm assault kills you in a single hit if it connects unless you have like 50 vigor and heavy armor or some buffs, so many times he will just use the skill out of nowhere when you were on the offensive, giving himself some hyperarmour and chaining the brief ascending stun with a devastating instakill

              • Anonymous

You can all ratio me for raining on the parade, but I feel like declaring he's on the cover is a bit silly when you can also make out the bodies of "Ensha" and "Jerren," despite it makes zero sense with regards to the lore. You can also identify the corpses of other Tarnished wearing the Champion set, Scale armor (not ScaleD, mind you), and the Carian Knight armor. Given that the "Vyke" figure is clasping a regular straight sword, I'm fairly certain the cover is just meant to depict the players themselves in various armor sets, not any actual NPCs.

Try to stay close to him so he doesn't cast his spells, His melee moveset is weak to being hit with fast weapons in between his longer attack animations or trading blows if you have the poise to take one of his hits.

Easily defeated with _____. Just use _____ over and over again, then pretend you actually have skills.

Easily killed by using a super powerful move during the animation he appears in, you know, because that’s what skilled players do.

i don't know why it says he is immune to madness but he is in fact not immune to madness because i killed this guy with just using inesecapable frenzy on him and it always procced the madness stun on him.

                      • Anonymous

Can't punish any of his special moves because they give him damage aura and all his regular attacks home in on you, and somehow are slow on dodge rolls and fast the rest of the time. I wonder if it took as long to adjust the game mechanics to work different for him as it would have taken to just work out engaging attacks?

so when i use storm assault i get hit out of the air usually and the player i'm fighting barely takes much damage if it lands but when he uses it he gets hyper armor, i'm stunlocked and tod-ed alright

He should have been fought in the furnace of the three fingers as part of the frenzied flame ending. All in all though, a very enjoyable fight.

If the upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree DLC does indeed take place in the past, or some approximation of the past as some theorise, then maybe they're planning to put a questline for Vyke in said DLC? Similar to how the Artorias DLC for Dark Souls 1 takes place prior to the main story. Just seems weird to me otherwise if this is the guy on the front cover (who also has an official Figuarts collectable figure) and he has such an extremely minor role in the main Elden Ring game.

The fact that one of the best written characters in the whole game had his entire questline cut and is a generic Npc evergaol fight is so disappointing

Wish we had a non fingerprint version of his armor for a lore accurate dragon Cult build, as well as his war spear without the madness. Yes I'm trying to cosplay lol

Still will never understand why he is just a throw away side boss for a evergaol players can easily miss

                                      • This guy is similar to Artorias in that they were both super badass knights who end up becoming corrupted physically and mentally by evil forces, Artorias by the Abyss and Vyke by the Frenzied Flame. They even have similar visuals, being that of heavily damaged armor and weaponry, and utilizing elements of what corrupted them in their attacks, with Artorias flinging Abyssal sludge and dark energy while Vyke flings Frenzied Flames at you.

I really wish Vyke had a unique fight similar to Artorias, where you’d fight him instead of Sewer Mohg, lore-wise he just way too impactful to be a throwaway NPC evergaol fight imo

lol i completely missed him, just looked up all bosses and wondered who he is. Had to run past him accidently.

I love how this ****er’s ash of war can go halfway across the arena to randomly one shot you, with no way to stop it. Roll out of the way? BAM! Get roll-caught! Block? BAM! Guard broken, then he follows up with a thousand hit combo that stun locks you and kills you. **** this guy.

I like how this is Vyke before he became lured by Shabriri. His spear isn't frenzy infused, so he can buff it with his signature spell that he's forgotten about, along with his other dragon cult incantations. I'd like to think he's been imprisoned here at his prime, while his dark-side invasion lingered through or was left behind.

                                                • Anonymous

Wait, so if he's immune to status effects, does that mean we're fighting an illusion? Could Vyke still be running around somewhere?

                                                  • Anonymous

For RL1+0 run, Dragon Halberd is probably the best way to deal with Vyke.
The strat is very straightforward: use the AoW to buff the halberd with juicy lightning damage buff, then run away from Vyke to make him run at you, poke poke poke when he gets close. Rinse and repeat. If Vyke starts casting, sprint to your left or right and you'll be fine most of the time. If you see two red lightning spears in his hands (Fortissax's Lightning Spear), prepare to roll from the lightning waves.

                                                    • Anonymous

I wish we could get his non-madness spear so we could cosplay his roundtable knight variant without being annoying

                                                      • Anonymous

Hot take: Vyke shoulda been a main story boss or plot point.
                                                        1. He was the strongest Tarnished of his Era, so a boss with him made similarly to Godfrey’s or smth woulda been sick.
                                                        2. HE’S ON THE COVER ART, AND HE’S AN EVERGAOL BOSS. AN EVERGAOL BOSS. Seriously Disappointing, but, Vagram was an npc invasion, and his raging wolf set is the face of the game, so, can’t be too surprised.

                                                        • Anonymous

So far the hardest boss in my rl16 run...

It's just like PvP, except your opponent is immune to everything for no reason, has the poise of ds1 Havel, the HP of 5 dragons, an aimbot spear, infinite stamina, estus, and can one shot you with any attack.

Unsurprisingly, Night Maiden's Mist and a large shield works really well. Cast the mist, circle around the mist, dodge or block or run away from attacks. Vyke will keep stepping away and running back into the mist for an easy kill.

surprisingly he actually isn't immune to bleed. Idk how high his threshold is but using waterfowl dance on him a couple times actually proc'd him once

                                                                • Anonymous

I know it sounds odd, but I think I may have found Vyke's tombstone. Northeast of the Minor Erdtree Church in Capital Outskirts, a lone grave stands just outside the capital ramparts, with a guardian kneeling before it, and a smouldering butterfly at its base. That doesn't sound like much at first, but the grave is actually perfectly aligned on the map with each the Forge of the Giants, Vyke's fingermaiden at the Church of Ibhibition, and Hyetta's spawn at Bellum Church, where she consumes Vyke's eyeball to become the fingermaiden of the Three Fingers. I placed beacons at each of these four points, and what do you know, when I stand at Bellum Church next to Hyetta, the four beacons on the compass merge into one—an exact syzygy. Whether or not it's actually a grave for him is just my conclusion, but I do think there is a deliberate connection based on this discovery, and it seems highly unlikely that it's just a coincidence. (The map is actually loaded with alignments like this, which I've slowly been uncovering.)

                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                    • Trying to figure out why he’s on the cover with a broadsword. Maximum aesthetics I’m guessing, or maybe he just switched to a spear after his run ended.

                                                                            • Anonymous

I used a whip. Specifically the petal whip, but any will do. It was +17 I think. Just stood at max range for whip, which is much longer than his spear and pressed R1. He only rolls away to buff or drink, otherwise he rolls laterally around you at whatever distance he was at when hit. So staggering your R1 slightly catches him over and over. Poise and hyper armor only work in animations, because he never got close enough to attack, no poise, so he remained stagger locked and panic rolling side to side the whole fight. When he goes to use lightning stakes, just run away a little. Sippy if you got tagged or rebuff if using them, then go back in to max whip range and continue to R1 until he stops moving.

                                                                              • Anonymous

What's the lore reason on why he's normal in the evergoal? Even his spear doesn't do fire damage and has a different ashe of war

                                                                                • Anonymous

Hence her repeated warnings outside the 3 fingers door and hatred for you after turning to the frenzied flame. Just like your body is burned after joining the 3 fingers so is Melina’s hands and arms in the exact same pattern; presumably trying to forcefully save Vyke from the frenzied flame

                                                                                  • Anonymous

In backing away and making him chase, the storm assaults are a good opportunity to queue up a mid-range attack (e.g. greatblade phalanx). Also the charge attack is vulnerable to guard counter if using a shield.

                                                                                    • Anonymous

I am a twinblade pure melee player. This guy was insane because you can't get close due to his unpredictable move set. I switched to a halberd. That Golden Halberd +8 I got basically at the start of the game. Remember that one? I poked him with it. I took my hits but I ground him down.

Use a thrust weapon with extended range. Keep him away from you. I couldn't break his poise with it though.

                                                                                      • Anonymous

This comment pertains to the evergaol version: he CANNOT be poise broken so don't even attempt it. That being said you CAN stagger him, at least until he gains hyper armor once his health depletes halfway.

If you want to keep him stun locked, use AoW Eochaid's Dancing Blade once you make him miss, but make sure you cancel before the end slash otherwise he'll punish you. Also a quick hitting spell or incantation (I recommend lightning spear seeing that lightning is his only apparent weakness) can throw him off and give you space to heal.

Beware of his storm attack, it's absolutely ridiculous as the wind will stun you and the stab will likely one shot you. However you can dodge right under him when he goes airborne and you'll be able to get a couple hits in while he's on the ground.

This fight is essentially like many other difficult fights in this game: don't get greedy. Be patient, stick to what works, and capitalize on your windows of opportunity and you'll finally put him to rest.

                                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                                            • Anonymous

This game doesn't even use A.i., its all button mapping registered by your inputs. It just calculates the instant you press a button or begin to because of the pressure. It's why Ash summons dont constantly fight or they stalk, because the enemy its fighting doesnt press buttons. So it "A.I." can't read itself and never counters like it does against the player. Nothing in this game adheres to the same rules that the player has to. Especially stamina and FP. Bosses should have to drink Cerulean flasks as well.

                                                                                              • Serious question:
Why we, as a player, get this thing called "poise" which is basically non existent. And we have to fight things that have actual poise which works as intended. What is the ****ing point?

                                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

this dude was a chump against rock sling, took him out in no time from across the evergoal. he staggers easy, so he never even had a chance to fight back.

                                                                                                    • I don’t know if it was just good luck or something but spamming lion’s claw on a +18 Greatsword completely destroyed the evergaol version of this guy

                                                                                                      • Anonymous

Vyke as a Boss has an unique version of his spear that can be buffed. he uses the "Vyke's Dragonbot" meaning that he will be weak to lightning dmg

                                                                                                        • If you're a mage, you can easily bully him by spamming Stars of Ruin (at least you can with the Evergaol version, don't know about the other one). All he'll be able to do is try and fail to dodge them until he's dead.

                                                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                                                            For the evergaol
He's very susceptible to poise damage so I'd recommend using the Nightrider's Glaive.
After each hit he is very likely to panic roll so by stepping in between each swing and resetting the combo you will be able to chain rollcatch him until you run out of stamina.

There are several points in the fight were he will give you free hits to start rollcatching him such as when he spawns, whenever he tries to buff, and when he tries to drink a flask. The flask and buff especially are repeatable and can be interrupted causing him to try and cast them again giving you even more free hits.

His AI also seems to get confused by throwables and will roll as you throw them not when they're about to hit him allowing you to use Gravity Stone Fans to open him up to rollcatching too.

I wouldn't recommend trying to interrupt any of his WA, Incantations, or spells as they seem to give him alot of hyper armour and are likely to oneshot you with <40 vigor.

Every build should be able to use this especially with a strength talisman to meet the weapon requirements, though using your stat specific high poise damaging weapon would probably make this easier.

                                                                                                            • Anonymous

Unless you're a parry god the easiest way to beat him in Liurnia Lakes is with spells or incantations, just glintstone pebble or uncharged lightning spear will work, just keep backing away from him and quick casting. He's much easier at the Evergaol as he's not building up a ton of madness with every little hit, just make sure you check your lightning dam negation, put on the boltdrake talisman, use a lightningproof dried liver etc

                                                                                                              • Anonymous

Can confirm the Roundtable version deals some kind of damage through guard with no buffs. If I had to guess it looks like he is dealing the Fire damage from his Festering version.

                                                                                                                • Anonymous

The Roundtable version will try to buff in the beginning of the fight, I suggest don't let him. At 1/2 health he gains hyper armor and increased casting speed so he will buff himself regardless of what you do by that point, but it makes the first 1/2 easier. I just took him to 1/2 health by interrupting his casts and staying in his face. At 1/2 health he just ignored the poise damage and cast through me hitting him 2-3 times, so the AI will "cheat" when you are winning.

                                                                                                                  • Anonymous

Artificially stated out the ass and immune to status effects. Also gets semi-hyper armor for most of his interactions, you need a strong attack to stop anything he is doing. And God be with you, cause if you can't break his animations he'll blow you up. I suggest cheats/hacks, turn this guy into a joke.

                                                                                                                    • Anonymous

just bare in mind that when you get his health around below half he just starts spamming spells
