Locking out a NECESSARY ITEM until NG+ is just complete BS. Imagine not being able to get some smithing coal in DS3 once you defeat Dancer of Boreal Valley.. Except DS3 is smaller and doing new playthrough is less time-consuming than Elden Ring.

Wish this had a third infusion (red lightning?) that gave a split scaling like cold does for magic, would help improve dex/faith synergy especially

Was looking for this wetblade to put sacred infusion on my shield to fight the Elden Beast. Oops, except this important item isn't obtainable once you reached the ashen capital. Such a stupid decision from the devs.

Oh how disappointing it is to have just respecced only to find out that I didn't have the Sanctified Whetblade already and that I can't obtain it now till I NG+. I was respeccing for Malenia.

do I need this to actually do holy damage? I put a holy skill and affinity on a sword and it still did low damage to skeletons.

What does it give? Holy or Lightning damage boosts, faith boosts? Why isn't this in the wiki?

If you're playing a Faith build, grab the Red Hot Whetblade from Redmane castle, it lets you use Flame Art affinity to get Faith scaling and fire damage, allowing you to not have to constantly deal Holy damage before you get this.

Its my understanding that when the capital turns to ash, this item is no longer obtainable? Is there another way if you miss it before the capital turns to ash?

Really wish they’d reassess their decision for its location…

Holy is resisted by everything already, and before you get this you have like 2 choices.

So you have to play through most of the game before you even get some variety for a damage type that’s underpowered against everything anyway.

Oh yeah, and it’s missable too, so if you messed up enjoy playing through most of the game all over again in ng+ before you get some other options!

If your going for holy infusion on faith build, its only useful against wyrms, Mohg, Fire giant, man-serpents and deathbirds, practically everything else has insane holy defense (beside skeletons that is..), especially royal revenants....

Just finished the game and setup the entire play-though with all the items in shop and unlocked all graces plus Merika statue and great runes for fun co-op. Took me a long time, now all I need is this item. Hope nothing goes wrong.

These instructions are like "From First Steps Site of Grace..."

From West Capital Rampart grace, do a 180 turn so you are facing south west and jump down through the little archway balcony.
You will see a large building in front of you with a lion symbol on the outside wall.

Go around to the left side of this building where you will see a large tree root with dog enemies.

Up against the large building is an old wooden shack with a dead body hanging off the roof, climb onto of this wooden shack to gain access to the side entrance to the big lion symbol building.

Just follow the path through the building and you will find the Sanctified Whetblade and a Hammer laying on the ground.

Terrible instructions. Easiest way would be just to drop down from "West Capital Rampart" grace, take a right before the cracked wall and follow the room. Sanctified Whetblade will be on the left along with a hammer

all scaling whetblades should have been in early game, this is why I was stuck with sacred blade for so long

So Flame Art does more damage but because fire resistance scales with STR, for FTH builds using holy damage effectively does more damage? Otherwise, vs non STR builds, Flame Art does more damage, no?

So I get how this works with the physical ash of wars but does this give faith builds faith scaling lightning ash of wars and dex builds dex acaling sacred ash of wars? Is that what it means by golden ashes of war or something else?

Heavily punished for doing a blind play through huh. Not looking up guides and maps really hurts your first completion with these missable late game items. Sad.

I put this on say a physical ash of war and add a sacred affinity to the weapon can you still buff that weapon resins and magic?

I might have to wait till NG+ to get it sadly because I've reached a point of no return at endgame.... Does anyone know an alternate way to get it at end game? I haven't beaten the final boss.

Couldn't find it in late-late game, at final boss and have every other whetstone just couldn't get this one. Is there an alternate way to get it once Leyndell is buried?

It annoys me to no end that this is a late game item. Faith builds have it tough.
