I see people saying it's hard to aim with. I wonder if "manual attack aiming" affects this, and if they have it turned on? I haven't had a problem aiming with it and mine is turned on, same controls as Lions claw, push in the direction of the enemy, pull back/down to flip in place etc. so I'm just wondering why some are having a hard time with it. Still, OG lions claw vs this... I'd pick OG, it's just one hard hitting, nearly guaranteed bonk. This one is more fiddly, only getting hyper poise while in the act of flipping, leaving you vulnerable when you land in between the flips. However it is good for my arcane/strength build using great stars to build up bleed (probably not an efficient build, but very fun, and it's effective on just about every boss).

you can be knockdown between landing first hit and starting second sweep

I used this on the longsword.
Might do less damage than on a big weapon, but it definitely catches other players by surprise

Comedically stupid on Giant crusher, after Consort Radahn does his spin attack he likes to start with; you can get in the full ash of war if you are willing to risk the chance of getting hit (it won't even knock you out of the attack because it has a stupid amount of hyper armor) and if you can get a second one in, you get a poise break.
10/10 ash of war for PVE, stupid damage and stance damage, along with seemingly infinite hyperarmor, no idea how good it is for PVP though, seems like it could be easy to punish but I don't do much PVP

I'm trying to do a Crit based build with the Executioner's Greataxe and is this better for that than regular Lion's Claw? Does it give hyperarmor too?

Hit em with the artorias special, then follow up with another artorias special.

absolutely awful ash, piss-poor tracking, you're unlikely to hit anything smaller than placidusax, damage is pretty poor too
just stick to Lion's Claw, Michael Zaki burnt the kitchen with this one

Extremely bad ash. Has such piss poor tracking on it that you'll miss anything that isn't a giant stationary blob like Placidusax. Michael Zaki was not cooking with this one.

This has whimsical tracking & a lengthy animation that is easy to punish. But if the first or 2nd parts of it land you can kill an opponent outright with a dedicated build. In pve however I'd say standard lion claw is better, especially in the dlc where you can get punished by mobs really easily.

Colossal weapon Stance dmg on wiki can't be correct. Most dlc bosses have 120 stance so you could break them with 2 Savage lions claws. I could easily debunk that using giant crusher and even with all 6 attacks hitting Rellana would not be stance broken from 2 skill uses.
Some other weapons are wrong too but it's harder to test unless it's a breaking point (multiples of 30 or 40)

Guts sword with bleed affinity and this is literally ****ing insane

I prayed for more flipping acrobatics to put on Cruved Greatswords, and I was not disappointed ^__^

wiffs a lot, but hitting the whole thing will make you feel like a god with damage to match
but for the love of god dont put it on shorter weapons like the rusted anchor tho
the pierce damage is great but it will miss so much it becomes fustrating
something like a collosal sword would fit best

This a pvp ash of war original lion's claw is better for your pve needs this is too long to use against bosses without trading hits, tracking can screw you over and has less stance damage
- Anonymous
So good in PVP, people rarely expect the followup.
If you wanna play mega mind games get two of the same weapon, put normal lion's claw on one and this on the other. Swap to confuse them

Did some initial testings to debunk misinformation like
"Comparing to Lion's Claw, it deals overall more damage and has faster execution, but deals less Stance Damage and first hit is weaker."
TLDR: Lion's Claw is actually a lot faster than a full savage lion's claw combo but deals slightly less stance damage per hit - making it overall more effective at stance breaking
Using Smithscript Greathammer I dealt 40 stance damage with Lion's Claw and 53 stance damage with a full 3-hit Savage Lion's Claw combo with most of the stance damage coming from the last hit.
So Savage Lion's Claw does more stance damage, more damage and more status buildup with the full combo.
HOWEVER this does not mean it's a strict upgrade as it also takes significantly longer to execute the full combo (and costs 30 FP instead of 20).
I could do 13 Lion's claw in 30 seconds equaling 520 stance damage but only 8 Savage Lion's Claw combos equaling 424 stance dmg.
So the stance damage per second (and per FP) on Lion's Claw is actually quite a bit higher than Savage Lion's Claw.
A reason to lean towards Savage Lion's Claw might be, that it might cause more status buildup or damage per second/FP or that you might be spending more time in the air (with hyperarmor) but this needs proper testing.
Just comparing the status buildup or damage from a single use of each AoW is not a meaningful comparison, as I have shown, because the execution time (and FP costs) is very different.

Great skill, but the tracking can be absolute shite a lot of the time, the only downside.
>Plays half the DLC without this amazing ash because he didn't go along a wall at the start.
- Anonymous
I guess this ashe is for big slow weapons that can proc status effects.
- Anonymous
Full combo of this really have less stance damage than a single Lion's Claw hit? That's a bit of a bummer.
Slap this baby on a rusted anchor with bleed and you can spam the final boss for great damage

Freyja's Greatsword should boost this skill by 10% right? Now I wonder if it gets 20% when you dual weild it in NG+

i don't have an account, so if someone wants to add to the wiki, the weapon art does 3 hits. the follow up has the damage almost entirely loaded in the second hit, but they all trigger status effects. i doubt it's optimal but i've been having success with this on an arcane build with bleed infused zweihander. you'll break the stance and trigger bleed if you do the complete skill. granted you're likely to get hit between uses or between first use and follow up, but most of the time regular enemies will be staggered.

tbh i prefer the og lion's claw, this deals much more damage in full combo of course but unlike lion's claw this one does little poise damage, can't knock down major human enemies, combo chain too long for the damage you are going to get interrupted mid animation

tested on Giant Crusher.
LION'S CLAW makes blackgaol knight fall prone on the floor.
SAVAGE LION'S CLAW does not have that affect.

I tested it out on the Black Knight right before Rellana and it seems this get boosted by consecutive-attack-buffs. Initial hit deal less damage than Lion's Claw (2k1 ish dmg), but full combo of 3 hits dish out around 4612 dmg. So Milicent's, Rotten Wing Insignia, Thorny Cracked Tear seems to stack together.
Just initial unoptimzed testing though, so I'll let the build masters to com up with optimized version. Scadutree Blessing at 7 btw.
The first hit deals less damage than Lion's Claw, but I believe the full combo's DPS is superior to spamming Lion's Claw, at the cost of higher FP consumption.
There is nothing stopping you using 2 lion claw. Which is just as fast and deal more damage in the same time frame and more stance damage.
