How to get Scattershot Throw in Elden Ring
- The Ash of War can be found by killing a scarab. Just south of Taylew's Ruined Forge entrance, near a bridge. It's hanging high on a pillar with some mobs underneath it. [Map Link]
Elden Ring Scattershot Throw Guide, Notes & Tips
- This is an Ash of War Skill, associated with the Ash of War: Scattershot Throw
- FP Cost: 11 per throw
- Deals 11.2 stance damage
- This Skill is not Chargeable
- 28 projectiles are thrown, able to hit multiple enemies up to four times
- Effective against large enemies and bosses, which can be hit by all four at a further distance
- An additional input allows for another scatter throw, similar to the first.
- Seems to have an extra hitbox when used against a target near melee range, providing more damage per use.
- Has approximately 50% increased max range compared to the normal attacks of the weapon
- If the Skill is used without FP, only two daggers will be thrown, keeping the increased range
- Since all hits count as Pierce damage, they benefit from counter-damage windows on enemies.
- Spear Talisman will further increase this damage, providing a good boost to the performance of this skill when used properly.
- NOTE: Patch 1.14:
- Decreased damage against other players.
- This skill will no longer cause the headshot damage motion when hitting another player.

Even without FP you can use this skill for increased range with the daggers

Fromsoft really didnt learned about not giving insane bleed build up to weapons did they...

drop your RoB, drop your nagakiba, drop your chicken leg, this is literally the best skill for applying bleed
When using the L2 with 0FP, instead of using scattershot, it just acts like an R2, which strangely results in it doing more damage, since all 6 proj can hit instead of the maximum 4 from scattershot. Less bleed buildup though, even though more proj are landing? Strange.
Seems like there's no bleed buildup on 0FP throws? Guessing but not sure what else would be different about using with 0FP

I did a lot of testing with the secluded cell giant and I think I've figured out how it works and why its broken. Hard with no motion values in datamining so this is all imprecise testing, Can't be entirely sure.
It appears scattershot throw will do a 2x melee hitbox that deals 100% damage / 0% status each (2HR1 is normally 94% damage / 65% status), as well as 28x projectiles which deal 20% damage / 80% status buildup each, of which only 4x can hit a target. Combined you can deal 80% damage / 320% status at range, or 280% damage / 320% status at melee. Each projectile is capable of triggering a stagger and bonus damage from a headshot and it will easily hit headshots with its wide spread. The projectiles have a huge range and wide arc with no damage dropoff. Smithscript/alexander talismans boost the projectile damage, but not melee hits.
Presumably someone at From intended for it to deal 80% damage / status with 1/4 per projectile, but derped and put that motion value of 80 into the projectiles themselves so its 4x the bleed. Triggering bleed on the giant in 2 volleys with a 45 bleed claw when it takes 6x R1 normally.
This comes on the Claws of Night and can throw the projectiles while mounted, without losing any mount speed during the throw....it also seems to be chargeable while mounted as holding it down draws back longer and seems to do slightly more damage....not sure if this is a bug or not...

Use golden epitaph in the offhand for the skill, which adds 25 holy damage to all your armaments, which counts for each dagger thrown leading to 700 more damage if all daggers hit.
