Scepter of the All-Knowing is a Hammer in Elden Ring. The Scepter of the All-Knowing scales primarily with Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence and is a good Weapon for heavy attacks.

Scepter in the form of a hand grasping a pearl. Signature weapon
of Sir Gideon Ofnir, the All-Knowing. The pearl stands for the
world, the heavens, and an eye, representing the many forms of
knowledge, never fully attainable. Even knowing that, the All-
Knowing's hand grasps for it.

The scepter that Gideon use is the npc version only which make it diffirent from player scepter, when Gideon activates the Knowledge Above All of his npc version scepter it will only affect the players but himself and while the player version the debuff only last 60s and reduce 10% magic and holy damage negation, the npc version debuff last 180s and reduce 30% negation. The npc ver is more powerful then what we got huh :V

Sorcery Scaling will be the same as Golden Order Seal but for sorcerys instead of incantation.
The Ash of War remains the same it make a valid option instead of Prince of Death with builds with less then 80 faith and intelligence.

Something really tells me this was intended to be a Sorcery Staff at some point in development, but than from decided to turn it into a hammer for some reason

          • Anonymous

Giving a weapon this f**king cool looking a skill as generic and lame as a slight magic/holy damage res debuff is one of the most baffling weapon design decisions From made.

This thing absolutely should have functioned as a staff/seal hybrid as it's weapon skill. It would have made it ultimate "jack of all trades, master of none" casting weapon which makes perfect sense considering who it belongs to. Hell, even make it so the requirements for both sorceries and incants are reduced when using it so it's not absurdly stat hungry to use.

            • The skill has a weird but fun niche - it marks stealthed assassins with the usual huge eye sigil, which is fitting and helpful both in solo and coop if you forgot your holy torch

              • Anonymous

If this was a catalyst, I’d like it to reach 300 sorcery/incant scaling, please. Would make INT/FTH much better

                • Anonymous

Trash. Why? Cause it has negative range. Perhaps frame data is necessary to support my claim but I’ve consistently noticed it will miss opponents that the top clearly hit. Other hammers don’t have this issue. I would know because I use hammers almost exclusively since launch. This makes being the longest hammer a detriment along with niche stats/L2.

                  • Anonymous

Honestly surprised that it doesn't also reduce the other elemental damage resistances, considering Gideon can deal fire damage if you've killed Mohg, and it would kinda fit his all-knowing style.

                    • Anonymous

Yet another casualty of the "throw darts to decide the dex requirements of a weapon" design philosophy of ER.

                      • Anonymous

actually a good support weapon if you are a caster. and no, it shouldnt be able to cast both incants and sorceries. gideon doesnt do that.

                        • Anonymous

After all that tedious work, a useless sad excuse of a weapon
Absolutely pitiful skill, and I don't even like skills

                          • Anonymous

Weapon skill could have been an anti magic weapon similar the the anti magic field in Demon Souls. Instead all it does is "Reduces Magic & Holy Damage Negation by 10%". Useless weapon art.

                            • Anonymous

it'd be cool if this wasnt a hammer but instead a catalyst that could cast sorceries AND incantations, making it ideal for int/fth builds

                              • Anonymous

the skill and damage of this weapon are mediocre, but the moveset and reach make this thing a rollcatch machine for pvp

                                • Anonymous

Hmm, it's similar to the Carian Knight Sword and Rosus Axe in being extremely long for its weapon class and having a nice mix of physical and magic damage that holds up well vs any enemy in the game (while having high total AR even compared to other infused weapons), but unlike those weapons its total AR is inferior to some other split damage competitors, namely a Lightning infused Hammer (which is just as long). Also you get it a lot later than the hammer. The unique skill sounds fun for absolutely maxing out your damage output on a caster build though.

                                  • Anonymous

This really should of been a INT/FTH weapon with physical/magic/holy damage and R2 sorcery casting. In it's current design this weapon's only real strength is it's move set and the ability to quick swap on the debuff in some fights but compared to the more meta weapon setup's even that is not enough to really justify using it. It's such a shame that From can design iconic weapons like the demon scar in DS3, and then fall totally flat on the same idea in the next game. Specially when you consider that this would not be the predominant caster option due to the new poise system eliminating r1/spell true combo's.

                                    • Anonymous

Mediocre damage even on an int dex build, but the moveset is pretty great and pairs well with sorceries. I mean you could do better, but you could defintiely do worse

                                      • Anonymous

What an awful weapon, so much wasted potential. It's not a catalyst/weapon hybrid, it's not a sorcery/incantation catalyst hybrid, it doesn't even scale with both faith and int. The dude who weilds this can cast Scarlet Aeonia! It's skill decreases holy damage negation! So many arbitrary limitations.

                                        • Anonymous

Gideon does NOT use this weapon to cast spells, I cannot believe how uninformed people are. Gideon weilds his hanner at first, but uses a staff in his right hand and a sacred seal in his left. He frequently runs up to you into melee range while on a 'cooldown' from spells, and you can easily see what he's holding.

                                          • Anonymous

Some one dropped this for me early game on my mage character. Just a random summon at Storm Castle gave it to me without mention. And it carried me until late game and is still my number 2 back up weapon and first choice whenever I need a strike weapon. I have no idea who or why they dropped this, but I probably would have never seen the value in it otherwise. Very, very good PvE weapon. I have never tried it in PvP.

                                            • Anonymous

C'mon Fromsoft! Why couldn't this have been a staff/hammer hybrid? Like you made the Demon Scar a Curved Sword/Pyromancy Flame Hybrid back in Dark Souls 3, Why can't this cast spells even though it's a goddamn scepter used by the All-Knowing? Yet another weapon in this game that had so much potential to be cool only to be lame asf.

                                              • Anonymous

i mean if you're looking for a strike weapon for your int/dex build, you can do a lot better, but you can probably do a lot worse as well

                                                • Anonymous

the reforged mod turns this into a catalyst that lets you cast both sorceries and incantations, as it should have been!

                                                  • Guys, is it possible to use the skill without having enough strength/dex? I'm asking because I haven't obtained this weapon yet, and I'm curious because if possible this weapon is going to help me a lot with my sorceries. Eg. I can use the skill of Troll Knight's Sword but I don't have the necessary strength/skill to wield it properly... would the same happen to this weapon?

                                                    • Anonymous

Really should have been a hybrid catalyst, either a weapon/spell tool or a staff/seal that could cast both sorceries and incantations. You know, like Gideon does in his fight.

                                                      • Really underrated weapon.
Running R2, Is practically on par with running R2 of thrusting swords. (Meaning it's really good).
The two handed moveset on this is also really good, most notably two hand dodging/ crouching R1 is very similar to the infamous crouch poke attack with ultra greatsword.

The ash of war on this is also underrated. Knowledge above all reduces magic and holy resistance for everyone in huge area, you can't really dodge it. While the debuff also effects you, it doesn't really matter unless your fighting another mage or holy user. Pair this Ash of War with Frostbite effect and you can have 30% magic defense shred essentially.

Most people without buffs don't even have more than 25% or so magic resistance, and AOW + Frostbite basically nullifies that natural resistance or gives enough shred to basically completely nullify Magic Fortification buff. The debuff also stacks with Dark Moon debuff, so Knowledge above all + Rannis Dark Moon (Also builds frostbite ) + Knowledge above all = Some major defense shred.

Last but not least, it has practically same stat requirements as Moonveil, and even on presets like Astrologer that have low starting strength, you can still use this by simply two handing it, as long as you meet dex requirements.

                                                        • Anonymous

It's a shame that this can't cast spells. DS2 had Blue Flames and the dlc's added more. This sword along with the Sanctum shield made spellsword build incredible. Oh well, Scepter of the All Bonk can at least cast head smash.

                                                          • Anonymous

Genuinely the best mace in the game. It's range is actually decent, it has forward momentum on it's running R2, crouch poking & thrust counterhit, and on a sorcerer it's weapon art is yet another source of damage boosting for spells, while also being a direct buff for itself.

                                                            • Anonymous

Wait, it's a hammer? I thought it was a casting staff.

For the all-knowing's gimmick, it should be a Staff that functions as a Seal, but has an actually decent melee attack string on it's R2.
So you can equip this in one hand and do melee, Sorcerery and Incantations.

                                                              • Anonymous

People keep mentioning Gideon casts with this. I'm pretty sure he doesn't. The fight usually starts off with him using Knowledge Above All, and him swapping out to what I think is some Carian Staff, maybe Glintstone (not glintblade?).
I think this mace has a really cool gimmick, and to echo other statements here it's a shame it requires int to actually use, so a Faith build can't make proper use of it.

Interestingly, Magic has 3 methods of decreasing enemy defence. Ranni/Ranala's Moon, Cold, and this mace right here.
Faith has one, and that's Greyoll's Roar, which has weird range and a long cast time. Not saying that the Moon spells don't, but they also have massive range, tracking and AoE. Cold is just a debuff you apply by bonking people, and the mace has a pretty big AoE at the cost of debuffing you as well.
I just think it's weird, is all!

... Also the holy negation. Not bad, but.. it's just Fire is almost always better for Faith builds. Frommm, why you gotta be weird like this!

                                                                • So it's a weapon that strengthens magic and holy damage, dropped by the living embodiment of a hybrid caster... and it's int/dex???

This reeks of last minute balancing decisions.

                                                                  • There's not even a weapon that takes advantage of the weapon art by default. I suppose you could try a sacred or magic infusion for some results, but why would you?

                                                                    • Anonymous

Probably the best hammer in the game due to it's good range. When compared to every other hammer, none come anywhere near the length of this thing. Sad that the Ash of War is kind of a dud, but if you are committed to using a hammer for any sort of reason, this one will feel the least miserable, in a pvp sense that is.

                                                                      • Anonymous

How gideon uses it: Spams all kinds of spells as if he has FP coursing through his blood

How we use it: Ooga Booga

                                                                        • Anonymous

This weapon could get much more attention if it scaled with faith too. If you are making a faith int build you are limited to sword of night and flame if you want to use an unique(somber), this weapon could bring more variety if it scaled with faith.

                                                                          • Anonymous

Reduce enemy’s and YOUR magic and holy damage negation. So basically a 10% buff to your magic attack. Lasts 30 seconds. Buff/debuff still shows up if you switch weapons and make the hammer not visible. Buff/debuff stacks with Jellyfish shield. So it could be useful for some cases, such as buff for comet azur.

                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                              • Anonymous

A few people have suggested it, but they really did miss a trick with making this a casting aid. Having a debuff to damage or increased cost, maybe even terrible scaling to make up for the versatility would make it more balanced.

A terrible cane, it shouldn't be.

                                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                                            • Anonymous

This is is also why it SEEMS to have less of an effect with increasing resistance percentages (that is the right decimal number on your stats chart), but that is due to the nature of percantages.

                                                                                              • Anonymous

When I used it starting at 50% magic negation, it only lowered it to 45. Using the skill at -32% negation ended up lowering me 13%~ negation.

If the ash of war reduces both holy & magic defense, then why wouldn't it scale with both int and faith?
