Sentry's Torch is a Torch in Elden Ring. The Sentry's Torch scales primarily with Strength, Dexterity, and Faith and is a good tool for illuminating dark areas. It should be used in a player’s offhand, as it doesn’t fair well as a weapon.
Torch Given to protectors of the Erdtree. Its flames are bestowed with a special incantation which allows the bearer to see assassins cloaked in veils. Furnished on behalf of the Erdtree and the Grace-Given Lord such that a Night of Black Knives will never come again.
Where to Find Sentry's Torch in Elden Ring
The Sentry's Torch weapon can be found at the following location:
- Can be bought from Hermit Merchant in Hermit Merchant's Shack for

Elden Ring Sentry's Torch Notes & Tips
- Weapon Skill: Torch Attack
- This weapon cannot be infused with Ashes of War
- This weapon cannot be enchanted with Magic or boosted with Consumables
- When equipped, allows the player to see enemies that are normally invisible, allowing the player to lock on, and fight them normally. You do NOT need to meet the stat requirements to do this.
- You can have it in your off-hand and activate two-handed weapon mode for the weapon in your right hand. This will place the torch onto your character's back (torch will be visibly hanging onto your character's back) and its "reveal hidden" ability will still work.
- You can reveal players who used Concealing Veil talisman.
- This does NOT reveal invisible floors, invisible bridges, or illusory walls, except in the singular instance of the illusory walls in the Sage's Cave. Why the Torch has this effect in this dungeon and nowhere else is unknown.
- This does NOT reveal invisible Teardrop Scarabs.
- You do NOT need to raise the torch (default is hold left bumper on a controller) for the "reveal hidden" ability to work.
- Sell Value:
200
- This is especially useful against the assassins in Ordina’s Evergaol, who are normally invisible and are thus harder to deal with.
- Patch 1.05: Fixed a bug that caused performance to slow down when the "Sentry's Torch" weapon was equipped under certain circumstances.
- NOTE: As of Patch 1.09, the scaling values of this weapon were changed. Please refer to the Upgrades Table of this weapon below.

having this on off-hand in places like Sellia and the likes with those vanishing mages makes them way less stubborn, and against the few Black Knife Assassins with perma-invis, you wont even need to use summons and it will still turn those into trivial enemies LOL
- Anonymous
It doesn't reveal the invisible lake turtle at Oridys's Rise.
- Anonymous
>used by Erdtree Sentinels to ward off Black Knife Assassins
>there´s one right outside Marika´s bedchamber
You guys had one job

Literally the one torch in the game you'd want to put No Skill ash of war on, and you can't. Thank you FROM.
- Anonymous
Using this did in fact make it easier to transverse the invisible bridge to the heretics rise in mountaintops of the giants. Specifically the curved ramp part.
- Anonymous
Using this torch in Ordina Liturgical Town you see black knife assassins?
- Anonymous
So I’m not saying dump your early sombers on this. But hey, once you have a few bearings you’re good. I also like the holy damage considering the best faith weapons tend to have fire (cough blasphemous blade). It’s a “cute”utility side arm. I’ve always wanted to that cheap poke move the torch hallows did in Dark Souls.
I didn't purchase this, bought the merchants cookbook then killed the merchant to get his bearing, offered the bearing to the hags in round table hold but it's not there for sale?
I thought everything the merchant had would be there for sale! Crap!
Any other way to get the torch on same playthrough?
- Anonymous
Why would this not allow for the 'no skill' AoW to be put on it? I can't see any practical reason other than a penalty price that players have to pay for the torch's 'reveal hidden' passive ability.
- Anonymous
Did a tree sentinal cosplay, had my cannon sheild, dual halberds and this torch for fun, and it was actually kinda helpful, I had to fight in a dark area and it proved it use
- Anonymous
Hey this might be too much and would prob have to edit a lot of entries but you think some where down the line you could have links or references to items that serve similar purpose(s) somewhere on each page. For example I’d love to know what other items/spells serve a similar function and it would be convenient if it were at the end.

What is the point of upgrading torches? What do those upgraded stats do?
- Anonymous
Kinda cool how it reveals intangible Black knife assassins when outside of the Ordina Evergaol
- Anonymous
I'm so disappointed...
Full Faith build: 12 STR | 10 Dex | 50-60 Faith
I can only use a handful of 1h weapons.
Long sword, Morning Star, Nobles Estoc, Short Spear - the rest is up to Incantations
I'm so disappointed... why does a torch require 15 STR.... to hold a stick
- Anonymous
the torch is ruined for ordinas evergaol now. It now only works if its actually in your hand and no longer works if its on your back remving your ability to use your weapons ashes of war on them
- Anonymous
5 pounds! This thing will break your medium roll planning...
- Anonymous
Unironically a good weapon for str/fth. Holds its own in pvp, but it should have had mace poise damage since it’s so heavy and plays like a mace. Has an r2 thrust which roll catches well. Has the str8 sword guard counter, which is really good and so naturally pairs with erdtree great shield.
- Anonymous
The one torch you would actually want to put No Skill on since this is likely the only torch you'll ever hold in the game, and you can't do it. Come the hell on, FROM.

- Anonymous
Do u need to hit the Faith requirement to make the assasins visible?
- Anonymous
this thing is basically nessecary for ordina, yet its not reobtainable. bullshit
- Anonymous
why the **** doesnt it make the scarabs visible. ****ing stupid bullshit
- Anonymous
Is the name a Dota 2 reference(to the sentry ward)?
It also shows invisible objects and creatures.
- Anonymous
"[...] and is a good Weapon for illuminating dark sections physical and holy damage."
who the hell wrote this?

Seems to emit the anti-invisibility effect only in places where invisibility is present. However, after a bit of testing, I think what's going on is that it's checking EVERY enemy for invisibility.
When I took the torch out in Sage's Cave, I got some hefty lag spikes. I went through and killed everything except the Black Knife, and upon reequipping the torch, there were no further frame drops.
I also noticed the framedrops mostly stop once you enter the boos fight. Maybe it's putting most of the cave's enemies in Omission mode.
Same case in Ordina, but I couldn' fix the lag by killing things. Interesting, the lag isn't present when you're on the roofs- only when you're in the black knife roaming grounds, likely for the same reasons as before. Given that the lag doesn' stop, I'm assuming it's checking all the phantom animals, not only in the Evergaol, but in the real town, too.
- Anonymous
The reason it work's in the Sage's Cave is because the Black Knife Assassin at the end of the cave is the one referenced in the lore of the torch. It is used specifically to find the killer that used the knife to stab Radagan.
- Anonymous
Really handy against hit and run concealed veil invaders. It's always funny watching them crouch away only to eat an explosive bolt to the back of the head
- Anonymous
using it at ordina causes constant frame dips in like a wave pattern, dips hard, then catches up, dips again, catches up again. don’t know what causes it, could be the ghost animals? not sure

I unironically use this in PvP and it is surprisingly not that bad. The main highlight is the running attack which can rollcatch, and can stagger most medium builds. It does decent damage on a faith build and does holy damage, which I personally love.
- Anonymous
You CANNOT activate two handed mode for another weapon or the light goes out and the enemy goes invisible
- Anonymous
as soon as I bring out this torch the framerate lags, and then speeds up to catch up to itself, and then lags, and then speeds up, and etc
- Anonymous
It doesn't reveal the wandering nobles when they go invisible after casting (you know, when they go invisible and run away).
- Anonymous
Dedicated Anti-Skeleton Torch (Bonus: Makes invisible guys visible.)
- Anonymous
Why does this page say you don't need to hold the torch for it to work? You most certainly do need to hold it.
- Anonymous
A missed opportunity by from soft. This should have been a hammer weapon with a weapon art so that the pious can burn the heretics and purge the unclean. But I might still use this as an off hand for larp reasons.

This will reveal Black Hand assassins- you'll really want it in the Consecrated Snowfield ever gaol

Everybody talking about its properties but not knowing that this is the highest damaging torch in the game, go wild.

I accidentally revealed a hidden wall in Sage's Cave (Altus Plateau) using this torch
- Anonymous
Once again: This does NOT reveal illusory / secret walls.

Used this in the Sage's cave with a friend and revealed illusory walls there. Does not appear to reveal illusory walls anywhere else.
- Anonymous
This torch cannot be infused with any ash, including No Skill. As far as I can tell, Beast-Repellant and Ghostflame are the only torches that can be infused with No Skill.
- Anonymous
Only appears to reveal illusory walls within the Sage's Cave, at quite some distance. No other illusory walls I've come across outside the cave are revealed.
- Anonymous
It appears that you cannot apply the No Skill ash of war to this item. It does not show up in any of the lists at the ashes of war menu.
- Anonymous
If I am summoned as a furled finger with this equipped, will the host of embers be able to see invaders who are using the concealing talisman?
Or does the host need to have the torch equipped as well for us to each see the invisible ganker?
- Anonymous
Apparently, the torch DOES reveal invisible walls, now... maybe a change form the latest patch?
- Anonymous
Doesn't reveal the spirit-caller snail, which is fair. I just wanted to test it.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Definitely some weird spaghetti code with this thing, last I used it in Sage's Cave it lagged my game to hell. Maybe its constantly sending out some kind of toggle to disable invis that overloads the game because its constantly active?
- Anonymous
This causes consistent stuttering in ordina. Yknow, that place with the invisible enemies and irresponsibly strong archers? Perfect place for tanking performace.
- Anonymous
does this work on players using the concealing veil talisman?
- Anonymous
With this description,i wonder what are morgott and godwyn relationship, with this we know morgott care for godwyn(and godfrey based on his lines also cared for morgott),i wonder if godwyn also cared for his full blood brothers like his father.
I thought the torch would work on the spectral enemies in Castle Sol but seems to have no effect.
- Anonymous
Really disappointing that you can only use the Torch Attack while it's in your left hand. I just wanted to goof around but I'm not going to start getting used to casting incantations and spells from the other side over 100 hours in.
- Anonymous
If you 2-hand your right hand weapon, with the sentry's torch in your left hand, the torch (even though it's not lit, and on your back) still reveals anything it normally would when in your hand.

Someone posted a video of an illusory wall in Volcano manner that opens after 50 hits. This torch is now more valuable than ever.
- Anonymous
I'm curious if this also reveals players using the Concealing Veil talisman or Unseen Form sorcery at longer range than usual, or if it dispels/ignores Unseen Blade. Would be kind of neat if it had a (niche) PvP application
- Anonymous
It works even when on your back, so two hand your weapon and have at em
- Anonymous
This torch is so hatefully laggy it almost feels like my choices are fight an invisible backstabber or a laggy invader npc
- Anonymous
The one item to reveal the invisible assassins in Ordina is found on some random merchant, for purchase, in a different area of the game. Awesome...
- Anonymous
You don't have to meet any of the stat requirements to reveal invisible enemies with it & it works even while sheathed
- Anonymous
No Ashes? That... feels completely arbitrary. Really blows, too-- you mean to tell me I'm supposed to fend off Black Knife Assassins in Ordina with nothing but R1 and R2 if I want to be able to see them?
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
It does not reveal illusionary walls. Meeting the requirements and standing next to one does nothing. Had to roll or attack it anyway
- Anonymous
Do you have to hold it up to reveal illusory walls? Having it equipped in left hand alone did nothing for me.
- Anonymous
Do you actually have to wield it or can you 2h your weapon with it equipped for the effect?
- Anonymous
Maybe I’m doing something wrong, but this has never revealed a black knife assassin for me. I would say a dozen or more times I’ve been holding it up on the lookout for one, I see nothing then see footprints at the last second before getting stabbed. I really wish this would work as everyone else says, but for what it’s worth, it has never worked for me.
- Anonymous
it may revel hidden assassins, but it also seems to kill your frames making it a horrible time fight the assassins
- Anonymous
seems to also reveal illusory wall as well. I hadn't hit any wall in sage cave and all the chests are just right there for me. need some more testing

Everyone says that this items reveals the invisible assassins. WHY DOES THE ITEM DESCRIPTION NOT MENTION THAT WHATSOEVER? The item descriptions in this game are evil and unhelpful most of the time. We have to GUESS what items do? Can't they just make some proper item descriptions like every other game developer is able to do? It's enough that the game itself is extremely hard, but they make EVERYTHING hardcore. No quest screen, no visible names of npc characters (good luck remembering who is who) and almost no way of knowing what items and skills actually do. So complex.... Not for ordinary gamers.
Location is incorrect on the wiki map. The hermit merchant who sells it / the site of grace is located here: https://i.imgur.com/GleYlO1.png

the fextralife map is WAY off on the location of the merchant that sells this.

> This torch is purchased at Hermit Merchant's Shack, not Hermit's Shack.
> This torch reveals invisible Black Knife Assassins.
(The one I know of is at Sage's Cave in Mt. Gelmir.)

Holding this will reveal the Black Knife Assassin in the Sage's Cave.
You do not need to attack with it, and you don't need the required stats.

this torch reveals invisible enemies in a fairly large radius when wielded
Pretty useless, but when using the golden epitapth's shared order (probably also the AoW version of it) and having the sentry's torch in your offhand, damages all skeletons (prbly all undead) in the vicinity. Seems like the anti-undead damage bonus gets applied to the torch's unveiling effect.
