Elden Ring Shield Strike Guide, Notes & Tips
- This is an Ash of War Skill, associated with the Ash of War: Shield Strike
- FP Cost: 0
- This Skill is not Chargeable
- This Skill simply allows the use of a shield's light attacking while in off-hand, instead of using the main-hand's Skill
- Despite featuring a Dueling Shield in its icon, this Ash of War can be applied to any shield.
- NOTE: Patch 1.14 Cancelling other actions to perform this weapon art will now take longer.

I'm so sad that attacking with a greatshield doesn't give block frames like in the other games. I know the running and jumping attacks have them, but that just invalidates the regular attack even more! I think the concept of shield striking is something that should exist with reason outside of dueling shields, though they should still be the best at it.

Does someone know the reason this was nerfed? Why the heck they would nerf this? At most, this was niche and there was nothing exceptional about it

A bit underwhelming and mundane, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. As an Ash of War, it probably goes well with the Shard of Alexander. Still, I kinda wish it'd been a more unique attack - a little more aggressive.

Quickly becoming my favorite thing to slap on the Dueling Shield and offhand with basically any medium weapon. I've found that Whips have an extremely underrated pairing with it, there are some great PvE combos and it gives you a good balance of both damage types and ranges. Whip hits anything within a wide radius, dueling shield gets nice combos at close range with lower recovery, and you have Strike/Pierce if you run it with Hoslow's or the basic Whip. Also looks fashionable as hell.
This is boosted by Shard of Alexander, making it better than No Skill if you're doing a Sellsword Luet dual-shield-striking build for some ungodly reason

good for roleplaying a "historically accurate" knight or something as well.

So this gives you your shield's R1 on in the left hand. Did anyone ever test if you can do running or jumping attacks with the Ash? The Greatshield running R1 is really good, and having that in the left hand might be some secret sauce

Wish it could be more naturally mixed with normal R1s when used on the offhand

I used the skill with Carian Thrusting Shield on Moongrum. The first hit appeared to be parryable. However, when Moongrum tried to parry the second hit combo of Shield Strike, the parry animation showed the attempt to be successful, but nothing happened.

So all dueling shields the two known in the game have this combo by default so equipping with them with this ash of war is pointless.
You can however stick this 4 hit combo on any great shield you want now which is legit.

You collect this with the Dueling Shield in the Storehouse of Shadow Keep, just follow the path up and eventually you'll come across a walkway you can jump over the railing of onto a stone beam that leads to it.

Be at ease, some medium shields can use this with fast hitting unit to keep priority on colossals
