Scream, causing nearby enemies to flinch, while also recalling deep-seated resentment, boosting attack power based on the amount of HP remaining. The lower the HP, the greater the effect.

Shriek of Sorrow is a Skill in Elden Ring. It was added with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Shriek of Sorrow performs a terrifying scream that flinches all enemies nearby, also increasing attack power of the caster. Shriek of Sorrow has Occult Affinity and is usable with all melee arnaments.
How to get Shriek of Sorrow in Elden Ring
- The Ash of War can be found at Belurat Tower Settlement, in the main Plaza where Fire Knight Queelign invades you, behind the great tree in the middle. [See Shadow of the Erdtree Map]
Elden Ring Shriek of Sorrow Guide, Notes & Tips
- This is an Ash of War Skill, associated with the Ash of War: Shriek of Sorrow
- FP Cost: 19
- Duration: 40 seconds
- This Skill is not Chargeable
- This Skill cannot be Parried
- Increases physical attack power relative to your HP percentage
- Increases by 10% at 100% HP | 15% at 85% HP | 20% at 55% HP | 25% at 30% HP
- Effect reduced to 7.5 / 10 / 15 / 20% in PVP
- Adds +5 Strength scaling (This adds points to the scaling modifier of the weapon rather than your strength stat, though it's not exactly clear when in the damage formula it's added)
- The Skill Tier is based on the HP percentage at the moment of casting. Subsequent health change won't alter the active effect unless Recast.
- Counts as a Weapon Buff and will not stack with other weapon buffs like Greases.
- Roar Medallion has no effect when using this skill.
Shriek of Sorrow Notes & Tips
- Use Shriek of Sorrow before healing to prepare for a fight with a massive initial boost.
- There are many few ways to intentionally lower your health:
- Find some mobs and let them hit you. This doesn't require any special equipment or FP, but does depend on there being mobs nearby that aren't too threatening.
- Bloody Slash: This Ash of War is obtainable early from Fort Haight and deals you 50 + (5% of max HP) damage each time it's used.
- Night Maiden's Mist: This spell can be obtained relatively early from Gowry and damages the player as long as they stand in the mist. It requires 14 Intelligence to use, but it costs less FP than Bloody Slash.

Feel like this was made to pair with things like the Crimson-Sapping Cracked Tear or Poison Spray Mist AOW, things that can consistently take you below the thresholds. Add the Crimson Bubble Tear for a last-minute emergency heal if you need it.

Can absolutely turn the tide in the colosseum, combining with the red-feathered talisman my occult great katana goes from 720 to 1070. The poke nukes.

Probably best ash for a bloody lizard greatsword. It can't accept any other weapon buff while keeping it's double proc unique R2

This serves as an alternative to warcry if you don't like the altered r2s of warcry due to the +5 str scaling. The only downside is no boost via roar medallion but rather a conditional boost via lowering HP.

temporary rfbs levels of damage with slightly more health allowed to get that much of a boost than the rfbs on top of being able to heal and keep the power increase while stacking with buffs? not worthless, 8/10

12% for 40 seconds without any change to your heavy attack is perfect for fist wepons like the star fist might stright up be better then cragblade

is this a damage boost on the WEAPON or is a general damage boost to yourself? EG does it improve the weapon that you used to cast the AoW (like a grease) or does this apply to your character themselves (like a body buff)?

Seems to be bugged on great katana. Only boosts my base attack by ~5, even with less than 30% hp

Some lego piece was stepped on in fromsoft's office and made an ash of war out of it.

If later I heal myself while battling the boss, the buff is reduced or because when I used it I had >30% hp it remains at max potential?

12.5% at 100% health up to 27.5% at 30% health (seppuku anyone)? This just jumped into my top 4 favorite talismans!

Excellent for guard counter build:
-red & blue branchsword (+20% atk and +50% negation).
-twin kite shield offhand (+5% atk and +10% negation). Make sure it has barricade shield for damage negation.
-great shield talisman (+25% phys negation).
-curved sword talisman (+20% guard counter boost).
-boiled crab(+10% phys negation).
-opaline tear(+10% phys negation).
-new guard counter tear.
-and most importantly, royal remains set to keep you topped at 20% passively.
Barricade guard counters destroy everything and you have 90%+ damage negation in dlc

Honestly a very good ash. In terms of damage, with less than a sixth of health missing it out damages crag blade, and it lasts as long too. Rewards risky play with huge damage over a long time. Strong af.
If you’re a claymore enjoyer that happens to like roars then this is for you. An AR boost that doesn’t remove the poke? What’s not to love?
