After watching Gino fist the game and seeing many people quit early, why restrict it? I’ve seen many people with full gear and buffs get one shot anyways. Give the little people a chance or at least some confidence. E_M

Too late in the game. Put it in Leyndell or, better, Subterranean Shunning. It's a ridiculously tedious chore to get enough [6] to get two weapons to +18, god forbid you want to have a build with some flexibility.

Aquire your primary, upgrade it, collect 30 cooler weapons, get bored with your primary, Beat 80% of the game to use other weapons
Good system!

A lot of people are bummed over this being available at the end of the game, but... To be fair what did you expect? It's an item that allows you to purchase as much 5-6 stones as you need. Sure it limits replays and more early-on build accessibility, but it was made with balance in mind

Miner's Bell Bearings now carry over to New Game+ (Patch 1.05).
This applies to most other Bell Bearings, except those gotten from slaying merchants and other non-hostile NPCs, iirc. Hope the pages get updated.

For the people complaining about it's location how about you stop and think,
by the time you get to the mountain top, you should've already picked most of the prior areas of most of their smithing stones that the bell bearing provides
God forbid you actually explore an open world game, honestly it'd take less time to farm the stones and runes to upgrade your gear than it would to farm the runes you'd need to buy all the stones needed and then upgrade them at the smith

I miss DS3's Titanite spam so much. It fixed the issue I had with the 2 previous DS games, especially 1. I never expected FromSoft to regress so much in this aspect of game design. So many cool and interesting weapons in Elden Ring, and they're all useless because they cannot be upgraded.
Falchions 'till the end, I guess.

It honestly seems like a mistake that this is so late in the game, like i'd have expected the 4 bearing to be here wtf

Dont get the whining about how late it is. There no lack of smithing stones up until this point. Imo they want you to go explore to get material instead of farm souls and sink em into a vendor. Considering yhis is the first open world 'souls' game thats understandable. The only thing you get with this is convenience to upgrade more weapons. But souls have always had the idea of focusing on a few weapons early on. I dont even think most of em had vendors with unlimited supply for higher lever material, only farming from mobs. If you desperately need to get a lot on a new char im sure theres a way to do that within an hour.
To quote Les Snead of the LA Rams...
"Eff them Smithing Stones, get some Somber"
Seriously, this is just a complete crapshow in comparison. You can literally buy up to +4 in Somber from a vendor for a small amount without beating a single boss. You can literally take ten minutes early to get to that vendor/blacksmith in The Lakes.
That basically equates to a +10 weapon without really doing too much. I hope in future updates they give more love to basic weapons. Your best shot early to middle game is starting with a Somber weapon in mind.

Unbelievable that they put this in mountaintop of the giants.
The only thing having a lot of smithing stones of the same level does is offer variety and the opportunity to experiment with new weapons.
Why deny players that?

It's like no one here whinging about this being a fair way into the game ever played souls games before. You always have to focus on getting 1 or 2 weapons high reinforced till your later in the game. Stop expecting everything to be handed to you.

To everyone complaining about getting this 'late game', it's not that late and you can find and farm shards before this to upgrade your main weapon.
This is just unlocking the convenience of buyable upgrades for extra weapons.
It's not convenient that it's this far in but it'd make things easy if it was earlier.

This is the page for the Smithing-stone miners bell, not the SomberStone Miners Bell. Different things.

THE SOMBERSTONE BELL BEARING [3] IS ACCTUALLY JUST IN FRONT OF THE FIRST CHURCH OF MARIKA

High atop a vast wasteland deep in endgame territory is the item needed for some noob to make his staff or sword viable in mid game. Thanks From!

Fromsoft really dropped the ball with the smithing stones on vendors with this game. There's absolutely no need for this item to be as far in the game as it is, and it's a similar story for the rank 2 bell bearing and all the Somber ones as well.
Where we get this, we should get the Rank 4 bell. A more appropriate location for this would be the Sealed Tunnel, where you get the Rank 2 bell. A more appropriate location for the rank 2 bell would be where you get the Rank 1 bell in Liurnia. The rank 1 bell could be appropriate inside Stormveil, or even just on the Twins by default.
It's a bit absurd, really. If you upgrade a weapon in a playthrough and get bored with it, you better either suck it up and (almost) finish NG with it or spend several hours farming for drops.
Smithing stone [3] ball bearing is hidden away in one of the highest end-game areas? Uhh... what happened here?
Considering its really easy to get weapons using Somber Smithingstones to +9 before seeing godrick and +10 right after him we should be able to make out weapons go to +21 on atlus plateau or capital.
Kinda weird that unique weapons are so favored in Eldenring compared to older games where you either needed rare demon titanite or titanite scales.

Is there another set of stairs? The chest I found I must have looted because the miner ball bearing 3 isn't there and I don't have the option to buy 5/6 from twin maiden

Can confirm ( i went 5 minutes ago )
The Smithing-Stone Bearing (3 )
Witch give access to lvl 5 and 6 Smithing stones is in " Zamor Ruins "and (it's east from the Grand Lift of Rold, site of grace.
In the Mountaintops of the Giants area.
When you get there keep following the ruins until you reach Zamor ruins, somewhere around the south-western part of the ruins, you will find staircases leading down. There is no ennemy, just a chest, with the Bearing lvl 3 in it.
Hope it help !

Lol they put something that helps bring your gear to 70% it's potential so far. Annoying. They intentionally hold ppl hostage with same gear.. I scour every zone. Finding 3s and up limits you to a few weps and catalyst to lvl... Only complaint though

I have already opened the chest at the bottom of the stairs. Don't remember what was in it, but I don't have the bearing and I can't buy stones 5 or 6...

can you speedrun this item or is passage story boss locked?
- Anonymous
I got this bell before going to the Mountaintop of the Giants. How is that possible? I forgot where I dropped it from but I can buy Smithing Stones 5 and 6.
- Anonymous
To be more specific than 'bottom of stairs in a chest', it's in the area's basement, at the bottom of the stairs going underground. The kind you see in most other ruins, that usually have bosses in them.
