People have already mentioned that the Glintstone Miners in Altus Tunnel drop these, and I can confirm they also drop from the Sorcerer Miners in there, although it's extremely rare.

There is one very easy to get straight away in Caelid. Go to the canyon that runs north from the Aeonia Swamp, run past the exploding Abnormal Stone Clusters and you’ll find a School of Graven Mages guarding it.

I just wanted to confirm that the miners in Altus Tunnel drop Somber Smithing Stone 5. However, they also drop Somber Smithing Stone 4.

The Glintstone Miner enemies in Altus Tunnel (not the Old Altus Tunnel) can drop Somber [5]s if you're looking to farm them. There's also one in an outcrop on the wall in the upper part of the same room you find those miners. It's not a difficult farm though take care of the Avionette Soldiers first. I was lucky enough to get a random drop my first time through. The drop is mentioned in the comments below which is why I checked out the place.

There are three somber 5s in Leyndell, after you defeat gold godfrey, fun from the grace towards the lift, turn left at, not through the door, there's a body with them on it.

Just killed Full-grown Fallingstar Beast. It DOES NOT drop Somber Smithing Stone +5 but actually +6. That should be removed.

The fastest stone to reach is not mentioned here. It's just outside Sellia Crystal Tunnels, hug the right wall until you reach a narrow pathway with Abnormal Stone Cluster enemies, found right in front of a big crystal.

A lot of the information on this page is wrong. The many faced ball monster south of the Deep Siofra Well doesn’t drop the stone, neither does the Fallingstar Beast in Mt. Gelmir (he drops a somber smithing stone 6). In addition, the two corpses mentioned in the Siofra River have a regular smithing stone 5, not a somber one.

There are actually quite a few 5,6, and one 7 somber stone in the volcano manor underneath. If you let the inquisitor boss eat you in the academy you’re teleported under volcano manor. If Juno down and explore the runes you will find many stones on corpuses but lots of dangerous enemies

I have just found a 5, it is right across Sellia under stair, you can just follow the wall on the right untill you see one of the giant red scarabs that recharge your healing. It is waiting in-front of a canyon that is filled with explosive stone worms and at the end there is a giant face-ball enemy. Next to it on the ground is the somber 5, its attacks take multiple seconds to fire and come down so you can leisurely walk up, grab it and walk away before it could hit you.

"It’s not called prison cave I also looked up where I could find a somber smithing stone 5 and it told me in prison cave SW of Aeonia swamp. The cave is actually called Gaol cave and it’s basic at directly west of the aeonia swamp grave site. Maybe a 30 second ride on torrent. The stone is in a chest in the same room as the lever."

The easiest one I’ve found is just west of Selia crystal tunnels there is a ravine that stretches north to south. At the back of the ravine at the dead end is a conspectus head ball thing. Just behind it is one on the ground. No hoops to jump through or dungeons to beat.

After leaving the siofra river elevator at the end on the stone platform (swordstone key needed). you get into cealid if you turn left there is a rune bear. a bit further you can drop down on a tree and at the crystal cluster there is a somber smithing stone 5.

Clarification on the location of the Somber Smithing Stone (5) in the Swamp of Aeonia: Prison Cave is not actually located in the main swamp area, but is actually due North-West of the Caelid Waypoint Ruins, guarded by giant red poison flowers. You can spot the grey fog wall from a slight distance.

also one in the sealed tunnel found to the southwest of the capital, just above the minor erdtree church. Found at the bottom of a large room with crossing tree branches/roots (down the ladder). you'll find it quite easily if you get in to the cave.

There's another location if you go through the gate of the outer wall phantom tree grace site and go to the right there's a fat ass animal with beetle things on its face that you can fight for one with a dude t-posing standing in front of it.

"Found by looting a corpse inside the large stone ruin at the highest level of the Siofra River" = On top of a fallen pillar (one archer on top, several nearby on ground) in Worshippers' Woods, you'll find a portal square. Take the portal to an otherwise unreachable area in the zone. The Somber Stone can be found on a corpse in the ruins. Easily avoidable enemies inside.

To get to the siofra river one you have to take a teleporter that is on top of a broken pillar, from there it will be in a room to the left that is filled with enemy's

Easiest way to get one is by heading to the castle located at the bottom right of the red area on its own island. Once you are in walk up the stairs and to the right of the elevator somewhere round there on a corpse is a Somber Smithing Stone (5). Ive been looking for ages and finally found an easy one.
