To all people below who are whining how easily and early you can get (8) and (9) compared to (6) and (7). You understand that you aren't supposed to be overpowered right at the start of the game, right? This is open world RPG, but you must explore each area seriatim, like, to find SSS [1]/[2] in Limgrave, then [3]/[4] in Liurnia etc., not run straight to the area that is scaled to be late game. Although I admit that devs themselves made a huge mistake by making Dragonbarrow accessible so early. The merchant in Dragonbarrow even sells note which says that you can skip half of Caelid by using teleport in Fort Gael. This is just stupid, why should I go there during early midgame in the first place.

Btw I never had a problem with gaining SSS [7], just don't skip Deeproot Depths and kill those disgusting hands in Mountaintops down to the last.

There is one in the moghwyn palace place from the entrance go towards the lake of blood and on the left side after you turn right as if you are going to the bird farm but take a left into the cave just before the slope that leads to the site of grace on the cliff with all the frog mfs

Someone already mentioned this, but I wanted to mention it again so someone with edit powers might update the page. There's a Somber 9 missing from this list: "Mountaintops of the Giants: On a corpse on the bridge between the Stargazer's Ruins plateau and the minor Erdtree plateau. From the Ancient Snow Valley Ruins site of grace travel North through the ravine and then take the left fork to the West. Jump up the Spiritspring onto the plateau and then take the southern bridge. It will be on a corpse in the middle of the bridge."

Just somewhere in the whole consecrated snowfield since it's all north of it? Good luck finding this one, there's hundreds of rock formations "north" of the hidden path to the haligtree to horse platform up yet none had a somber 9.

Theres on in mohgwyn Palace too, idk why it's not on here and thought I was losing my mind until I got to it again.

From the approach grace just follow the wall to your right going down, it's in the same cave as the scarab with blood tax ashes of war

Where you find the SS stone 8 teardrop scarab near Caelid divine tower, theres a little road going down to the tower's lower level, theres a circle from dead bodies on chairs with a lot of loot. You can find there a SS stone 9 with a lot other stuff. Basically 2 levels for your weapon in one place.

I just found in Caelid while farming the vulgar militia near farum greatbridge. It dropped off a scarab next to the pillars/pile of rot. I've never seen it there before... potential rarespawn?

it's lovely to be at a point in the game where you're finding +10 somber stones and constant +8 somber stones but there's no +9 stones to be seen

The one in the consecrated snowfields atop a rock formation west of the minor Erdtree is actually invisible. The ones nearby that drop 7 and 8 stones are visible but this one is invisible.

There is one on the bridge leading to the Minor Erdtree in the Mountaintop of the Giants, on a corpse on a chair. This is the bridge that Corhyn and Goldmask are on, if you've progressed Corhyn's quest that far.

"Under the broken bridge at the southwest of Crumbling Farum Azula" - it is not under the bridge and the map description is also incorrect saying its on the cliffside. It is to the north-west of this particular bridge, under a tree on a corpse, guarded by Wormface enemies. The map coordinates are correct however, it is exactly where it was pinged.

There is one in Mogwhyn Palace, in the small indent/alcove by the pool of blood past the skeleton summoning things, before the ramp-up to the Palace Approach Ledge-Road. (Just walk down from where most people are doing the rune farm and keep looking right. There’s also a scarab there that drops Blood Tax) You can still get two earlier in Caleid but this is another relatively early one. Add it to the wiki please.

available from the handmaiden merchant in round table hold, i just don't know when lol. don't have it on my alt characters, but i can buy Somber 9's on my main for 25k. Maybe its once you beat the game or something, i really dont know. Good luck!

The SSS placement is really bad.
The [6] was already kinda hard to get, but the [7] is even more gated, whereas the [8] and [9] you can get super easily and I got BOTH before I even got the [6] one.

From my girlfriends game, it appears that "Dragonbarrow, Caelid: Dropped by a Teardrop Scarab found to the west of Farum Greatbridge." is night-time only. Was not there during the day, switched to night and it spawned. Both after slaying the dragon.

Let me provide a better description since this doesn't appear on the interactive map. Start at Dragonbarrow West, go towards pond with 2 dragons, loop around the rock wall to the LEFT and you'll find a hill leading DOWN to the base of the Divine Tower with some roots arcing above you. Coordinates are -164.84375 : 145.71875 roughly.

There's a Somber Smithing Stone [9] on one of the 4 corpses at 9 chairs that are all facing inward this is a little bit north down a hill just past 2 dragons in a lake which are both east of where you get the Dragonbarrow map the other 3 didnt have any type of smithing stone

It's below the ramp that leads to the Divine Tower of Caelid. The access point is on the right side of the ramp (that leads to the Divine Tower).

I've found one at the foot of the Caleid Divine Tower. Going from Dragonborrow grace jump down the roots to the bottom or on the way towards Erd Tree there's a path going to the bottom of the tower.
There will be a circle of chairs with corpses, you find a bunch of runes and the Somber Stone 9.

just found a second incredibly easy one to get in north Caelid, thanks to a video. it doesn't seem to be here yet so here you go:

travel to the Farum Greatbridge grace, and immediately go west to the tiny ruins you can see close by. you'll hear a scarab very near you, inside the ruins to the south. you get a +9 somber smithing stone as a drop from this scarab (for a total of two in this region, which is amazing).

when attacking the scarab, be careful of the enemies here, they hit hard and might give the scarab enough time to vanish. you might need to clear them out beforehand, but i just rushed the scarab and took the damage.

There's one in Caelid region, super easy to get. Just go east from Isolated Merchant's Shack to the tower nearby, one of the corpses in front of it gives this to you. Allows for early pickup since there are no requirements to go there.

Found 2 of them in Ruined City of Farum Azula, one is near a "bonfire" called Dragon Temple or something like that and the other is in a zone full on ugly enemies spitting at you, you have to take an elevator down to enter the zone.

If you've raised the platforms on Lake of Rot your first time through but can't get up on the platforms themselves just head to Grand Cloister grace; go up the stairs, turn right on the corner and if you look directly NORTH-EAST you will see a pillar with the button that you can step on that will rise a platform for you to obtain your somber smithing stone 9 or defeat the lesser alabaster lord. If you fall down or die, there is a ladder up a new path south-east that you can climb connected to the wall south of where you stepped on the button previously.

From the "Farum Greatbridge" grace, go directly West across the road and you'll come across a scarab that should drop this.

A lot easier to obtain than some of the other alternatives.

Found this one very close to somber stone 8. on the map you can see this shape with a circle inside of it next to where you would find somber stone 8 and there is a slope you can walk downwards near it and there will be a circle of chairs with loot which includes somber stone 9.
