Pretty decent weapon class overall. Just wish the regular spear was more accessible, such as being sold by a merchant. It should've been a starting weapon instead of the short spear, since that one is very common drop and is already sold by the twin husks.

Kinda lame that although the Soldier enemies across the game can drop their Lordsworn Swords, Shields and Warpicks, they don't drop their Lordsworn Spears, it's sad because their spears are actually pretty cool looking.

They really just decided that one-handed spears should have a fast poking crouch-attack, while two-handed spears get a slower and shorter upwards smack.

My rule for myself is single spear against friendly people and those running cool/non meta setups. Dual spears against gank squads, super toxic people(Ex: people attacking me when I wave/bow in arena), or against someone else using dual spears.

They need to buff single spear so that it is actually worth using. Powerstance spears can keep their higher damage, just make them slower than single spears so that their is at least a trade off. Right now dual spears is just the objectively better option. Maybe buff single spears poise damage when two handed and keep the ps poise damage low. We need at least some reason to use single spear over two.

Pretty sad that by nerfing powerstanced spears they killed single spears. With low AR, nonexistent poise damage and little crowd control who needs 1 spear? Might as well equip halberd at that point.

For me, it's the Pike. The best powerstanced spear.

One spear is fair. Worse than fair, maybe. Their AR is low so you have to really leverage your range and counterattack bonus damage.

Two spears are stupid. All the nuance goes out the window and you do entirely too much damage entirely too often and entirely too fast.

Two spears with status buildup... You have no pride as a warrior.

Just a friendly reminder that flame strike has more range than most spears. And so do most katanas. Also, spears (minus powerstance) are properly balanced around thrusts so that they can’t win trades. Good for game balance, bad for spears when every other weapon category that thrusts is not properly balanced for thrusts. Spears are also very slow for their range. Cleanrot sword r2 is faster and does more poise damage than spears r1s. Oh yeah, and the spear move set puts your head forward and you take bonus damage on melee headshots. Also the r2s are garbage for pvp, especially the double hit r2s. Pike has ok r2 but it’s clear they didn’t want players to actually use it for long shots. The best spear is nagi but that’s only because it’s a halberd with bleed and can be abused with double spear cheese moveset.

I want to see a true Trident (not mohgs or the girandole, they dont count) and a long Hewing spear to do some Wu Xia type stuff with it. Partizan is cool, but i dont like its lack of length. The regular Halberd, coincidentally also seems to have more length than a spear considering that usually polearms like Halberds are not longer than your standard spear. Would use Swordspear but shits made of wood so idk how to feel about that.

Damn... the most damaging non unique spear is cross-naginata but it also has bleed but it also is one of the longest spears... I kinda feel that this game being made by japanese had some biased opinions on weapon scaling (katanas being as strong or stronger as straightswords + having bleed and bigger reach, and now the spear section being dominated by once again a japanese weapon).
I wish sooo much to play a little bit spear other then naginata, but knowing that it is by far the best choice in this category hurts too much.

Fromsoft needs to get balancing right next time, a bleed weapon should have more AR across the board, and the longest weapon should also not be the strongest.

I checked the stamina cost of weapons and, if my spreadsheet is not wrong, spears have the most gap. One neutral attack from the basic spear cost 14 stamina, from the Partizan it cost 17, from the Cross-Naginata it cost 18 and from the pike it cost 20. The stamina cost of a neutral R1 from the pike is ~42,85% superior to the same attack from the basic Spear. Three powerstance running R1 costs around 144 stamina with Cross-Naginatas, and around 108 stamina with Short Spears. Keep in mind I could be totally wrong if the spreadsheet I found is not reliable, but it's a popular one and it says it's for version 1.06.

Im playing around as a Redmane Soldier cosplay, and they have a Lordsworn Spear that is unattainable for the player.

Can anyone explain to me why, in the picture with the range of each spear, we see the Pike and Kaj decided that the hitbox would be at the level of the orb rather than the tip of the Pike, while in game, we can test and see that this "supposedly-hitbox orb" does not influence the hitbox and the hitbox is well taken into account at the tip of the Pike and not the orb? I read comments saying that these images are unreliable but the bandwagon effect has ensured that they land on Fextralife, even if no one reviewed it. I didn't have an opinion but it's not the first time where I'm perplexed about the range shown. Even if root motion is not included, for me the short spear does not have 60% of the range of the Pike. Without accounting that orb it would be closer to reality.

After a ton of experimenting with the spears, I've discovered that while the short spear has the weakest base AR, it has the strongest R2's out of the infusable spears, even outpacing the Cross-Naginata despite the large difference in AR. The extra hit actually makes a big difference

I miss back in DS3 where the only twinspear in the game was an honest weapon that required actual skill to use, and was rewarded greatly if mastered with plenty of different true combos and pseudo-combos. Now you just have people who stack poise and bleed to instantly kill you with two Cross-Naginatas or Pikes.

Note: You use less stamina per hit with a (Great) Spear, while holding the shield up.
I was able to do one more hit with the pike at 40END and also with the lance.
I have yet to test whether it affects the damage.

I still question why in (Soldier of) God (,Rick)'s name FromSoft didn't make the Lordsworn's Spear usable in the game.

So many of them require grinding or are locked behind a boss. I miss being able to rush to partisan in the first 15 mins of the game. You can buy both the halberd and estoc from merchants, so I don't get why basic weapon like partisan gets treated so differently.

God I wish they gave spears like the Partizan and the Spiked Spear, etc, other damage types to deal. One being a broad blade and the other having more of a club end, you’d think they’d deal something other than piercing damage with that sweep

I feel like giving powerstanced spears the speed of a straight sword, reach of a bow and combo speed of a katana was a bit... too much. They are too fast and has too much range to wiff punish, and if you end up trading... Well, trading against 2 spears with Spear talisman is never a good idea, even with colossals.

Yeah, powerstanced spears are nightmare to deal with, and feel like they are a bit too powerful...

I'm running a tank build with greatshield and spear. The treespear got me through most of my playthrough, and goddamn is it awesome. I've been looking for a good backup weapon the whole playthrough, and always like the shortspear that I started with. It took the entire game for me to come back to it, but it's awesome. Fast, tight moveset with good ash of war versatility.

The black and gold handle spears that the lesser knights use (the ones by the gatefront in limgrave for example) don't seem to be able to drop them. A real shame as imo it's the best looking one, but the regular spear will have to do.
