Spiritcaller Cave Walkthrough

This dungeon is almost completely dark in most places. It is highly recommended you equip a Torch or Lantern while traversing the cave. The cave is filled with Lesser Spirit-Caller Snails. Similar to the boss found at Road's End Catacombs, these spectral snails summon Spirit Ashes to attack their opponents. These particular snails typically summon Direwolves to defend themselves. Defeating the snails will kill their summons as well. If you hold up the Beast-Repellent Torch, the wolves will not attack you unless you attack them first, making it easy to take out the snails. Watch out for the remaining summoned enemies.

From the Site of Grace, follow the narrow tunnel to the next area and go through the tunnel in the south. Avoid the center of the room as stepping on it will form a sinkhole sending you to the level below. The next room has a tree trunk that you can use to descend. There is a snail hiding in the bushes in the southeast. Take it out and check the corpse nearby for 5x Arteria Leaf. Continue along to the west and in the next cavern, check for a small opening in the south where three corpses can be found. You can loot a Hero's Rune (1), Golden Rune (10) and a Rune Arc from them. Head back out and continue along west.

After the narrow tunnel, you arrive in another mid-sized cavern. Three different snails will summon one "Inaba, Disciple of Okina" each. The Inaba are strong enough that you should kill the snails immediately so you don't have to deal with them. Check the two corpses for a Golden Rune (12) and 2x Freezing Grease. Head south from here and kill or sneak past the wolves using the bushes. You can find their snail in the bushes further south. Check the corpse by the tree next to the snail for the White Reed Armor, White Reed Gauntlets and White Reed Greaves. There should still be several wolves in the cavern which means there is another snail. You can find it in the southeast of the caverns. Sneak up to the snail and kill it to destroy all the wolves. Now you can backtrack through the caverns to collect a Golden Rune (6) and an Invigorating White Cured Meat. When ready, proceed south through a narrow tunnel to the dungeon's boss arena.

Boss: Godskin Apostle and Godskin Noble

Godskin Apostle and Godskin Noble are found in spirit form here and you must defeat each one-at-a-time.

Godskin Apostle appears first. The Godskin Apostle is not as aggressive as the Godskin Noble, but will still follow you around the arena. Staggering him gives you plenty of chances to perform comfortable melee attacks without worrying about his AoE spells. As he reaches lower health, he starts casting lots of area spells, and it's convenient to have a good spirit ash ally tanking him out so you can keep your distance.

Godskin Noble appears after defeating the Apostle, and also appears in spirit form. During its first stage, The Noble is not very good at ranged attacks, but it can be very awkward to fight him at melee distance. He will constantly walk towards you very aggressively. You can use the trees around the arena to pivot and create distance between you and him. Like the Apostle, the Noble can be staggered, which again gives you a safe chance to perform a critical attack on him. When low enough health, he will start rolling around (before which he will pump his chest and jump into the air), which can be very difficult to avoid. You are recommended to utilize the trees to out-maneuver him during his rolls. The trees will not stop him or get him caught, but each one he rolls over must break, and this gives you a small amount of additional time to maneuver away. He will also use Black Flame magic attacks, but they are very predictable and can be easily avoided by staying on the move and dodging.

After defeating both, the Spirit-Caller Snail (which summoned both of the Godskins) will appear. Once the snail makes itself visible, you can quickly eliminate it due to its low health.

    • I'm kinda annoyed that they made an entire dungeon that teaches you that you can kill the snail and the summons go away, and the final fight is a snail that doesn't exist until the summons are killed.

Glad I checked this page cause I gave up on this dungeon thinking I had to find an invisible spirit Snail in order to stop the godskins and just kept getting killed trying

kill the first guy however you can and then summon greatshield ashes for the big guy. they'll likely box him in and you can stagger multiple times throughout the fight. I just bonked him with a troll hammer from a distance a few times. half the time he'll just roast the shield guys alive with his AOE attack, cest la vie

I just beat this Cave again, first time was with a greataxe build which has stagger and damage top spare of course so I breezed through it a bit, this time was with my old Bastard Sword, which I must say was a lot more fun, but you need to be on the ball more too.

The main thing I noticed in my 20 or so attempts this time (I play solo, no summons, and I'm probably a bit under leveled) is that the change in tempo between the small godskin and the large one was tripping me up more than anything. I found that a more careful considered approach to the small godskin was better as some of his moveset just flat out makes my attacks miss, then he punishes me for being low on stamina or out of position, the large one however gets hit by everything and has long combos it's hard to block or dodge through to find an opening, so chaining together heavy strikes fast worked well for me.

I also encountered a few .. glitches?, namely that the large ones rolling attack sometimes just lasted forever (like 2 minutes one time) or it would not break off once he'd hit me and would simply multi hit me while I was fallen over and I couldn't respond at all. But once I was in the zone I was able to kill the small one without taking a hit about once ever 5 goes, and the big one has a huge repeating thrust combo at around 25% health that at least with my build simply had to be perfectly dodged in it's entirety or the fight was over.

Still pretty cool to be able to test out your build on the bosses on their own before you get to the duo.

I ****ing hate this cave. I'm able to kill all the snails, but because I stealth kill one (too quickly), some glitch happens where a spirit disciple spawns from a snail but doesn't get killed by its snail dying. It's the most bullshit death imaginable. If this cave worked as intended, I'd be able to get into the ****ing boss cavern full health, full focus, and full flasks, but instead I die over and over to something that shouldn't even ****ing happen.

First run through the tunnel I had 2 flasks left and 2 cerulian flasks but I said screw it I'm going in! Good call because me and my Kaiden Sellsword took them out with the help of heals from Blasphemous Blade. Indo wish this game was harder, I'm pretty high level but the only boss to kill me thus far was the Regular yellow electric Starfallen beast in a mining Cave... Oh I did get smoked by Landsyax? the dragon after Fia now that I think about it but still I like using spirit summons for the fun coop like battle but maybe its making bosses too easy for me? well rounded stats so I cam use weapons I like such as the Carian Swords etc, mainly Melee with a few Incantations.

I'll never understand the logic of not putting a Stake of Marika by some of these bosses. Why would you make the players run all the way back? That's not hard, that's just tedious.

                      • Anonymous

Everytime I ran into the room where you loot the corpses for the Hero's Rune (1), Golden Rune (10), and a Rune Arc; I could hear something die and I got 15 souls. I'm not sure what's happening there but never failed.

For these bosses, I used Greatshield Soldier Ashes +9 which held their attention for a bit. The noble was able to wipe them all with a drop or a roll a few times though. Carian grandeur was excellent for staggering the bosses. Put them to sleep, keep swinging until they drop, rinse and repeat.

And then finish off with some escargot.

Put boss to Sleep, apply frostbite, hit once with something fast that applies fire, repeat steps 2 & 3 as needed.

Personally I used Sword of St Trina,Cold Nagakiba with chilling mist, and Bloodflame talons to apply flame but literally anything will do. Black Knife Tiche for spirit ashes. Absolutely wiped the floor with them

If you came here because of the dead end looking are where it looks like you can drop into it, there is nothing up there. I fly hacked to get up there, there is literally nothing there just a dead end. I'm talking about the grassless tunnel after that one spirit caller snail, where if you look up you can see some ledges which look like you can drop from it if you come from another way. It's just more fromsoftware trolling.

Almost solo'd the Duo first try. Was feeling pretty confident so I eagerly rushed to the center of the first room which I somehow unintentionally avoided my first run through. Lost 50k runes to that sinkhole. I know it isn't much by that point in the game, but I was still irate lol

Dolores doesnt help much with apostle, but noble got slept multiple times, even in middle of the roll... would recommend

section 2 " follow the narrow tunnel to the next area and go through the tunnel in the north" north> to the south for correction

Hate the rolling attack. It always pushes me against the wall with the noble still rolling on top of me. No chance to escape or do anything. You just die. Time and time again

Be warned! There is apparently a bug wherein the room before the boss fight if you kill the snails and a wolf hits you, that wolf won't die when you kill the snail. I also had a wolf along with a samurai stick around after I killed both snails.
Love the game but moments like this are just unfair

Dolores the Sleeping Arrow helped me in the boss fight. I had to hold most of the aggro but with a 100 physical damage negation shield it wasn’t so bad.

She is pretty agile and did a good job staying alive and putting godskins to sleep. When the Godskin wasnt sleeping I was repeatedly staggering with 2 hits of Flame of the Redmanes

Boss is one of the worst offenders in game. Very high scaling for the area. 50 vigor and the noble roll still hits like a truck. Especially when it gets stuck on you when you're down. That's it you're dead. Duo was easier for me, pillars and bigger room.

                                          • Anonymous

So if you just run through without killing the snails before the boss and summon your ash right when you enter the boss fog, your summon will literally turn around and exit the boss fog to 'fight' the **** outside the room, only to be instantly despawned as a result....

                                            • Anonymous

If you equip sleep pots and the terra magica spell with a staff equipped, your mimic tear will throw pots and constantly cast terra magica while the boss is asleep. Great for sorcery users.

The snail at the end in the boss fight should be in the room, same as every other snail in the game. Just a stupid fight.

                                                • Anonymous

If you use Beast Repellant torch you can run past all the wolves. The seppuku guys can be easily ignored, making it a straight run from the grace to the boss.

                                                  • Anonymous

worst goddamn cave in the game imo, all those stupid wolves combined with the two seppuku using weebs make the cave itself way worse than the actual boss imo, don't forget you have to go through the whole ****ing cave again everytime you die.

                                                    • Anonymous

Too many hit and run wolves, Boss arena is too small, bosses wait till you heal to attack, completely missed opportunity, and a thorn in my side.

                                                      • Anonymous

Sleep pots turn this fight to a joke. Make sure to have them. Bring St Trina Sword for the fight, use it on the Apostle, wreck him and then proceed to use the pots on the fatso (Noble). I really don't like him, so he deserves the pots.

                                                        • Anonymous

A word to the wise, this cave has an intense boss fight and when you kill both apotles the adrenaline will be pumping. Just make sure you don't forget the actual snail after both bosses are dead. I did forget it was a snail summoning the apostles in the first place and I nearly sh*t myself when I saw it creeping up on me.

                                                          • Anonymous

I actually used mimic veil for the final wolf room before the boss. It fooled the wolves but not the snails.

                                                            • Anonymous

I've read most of the comments and those saying to ignore all the summoned enemies and sprint straight for the snails to kill them as quickly as possible are right, it works very well. I did the same thing a few days ago and it makes the dungeon a lot simpler. It took me two attempts to kill both apostles and I got to the boss door twice without any of the wolves or samurai getting a single hit on me.

If anyone has doubts or concerns about trying this use up all your runes before heading to the cave. If you have no runes to care about losing if you die then you can take your time, get further in each time until you know where they all are and able to kill them one after another.

                                                                • Anonymous

I got six direct hits one after another on the noble in the temple eiglay while it was focused on my spirit summons and they had zero effect on it.

                                                                  • I just tunnel visioned the snails and was fine, get behind them or use a damaging ash of war like lions claw so you can one shot and avoid their grab

                                                                      - Run up and jump+R2/RT on the first snail (sometimes the left wolf hits once just before vanishing, be careful);
                                                                      - Continue down the path and stop at the ledge overlooking the samurai summon;

*The faster you do this, the better, so the samurai will never reach you*

                                                                      - Look slightly to your left and a bit down, just to focus on the second snail and aim at it (R3);
                                                                      - Drop R2/RT attack on it and bam, the samurai is dead;
                                                                      - Proceed hugging the wall on your left, ignoring the wolves, until you see a snail, and jump+heavy attack it, and the samurai and the wolf guarding the boss door entrance disappears;
                                                                      - Proceed to the boss.

Sleep pots worked better than the grease, mainly bc I was using the Bloodhound Fang+9. Mimic Tear makes the fight a breeze, even at low RL100s, so just use it if you are rushing these repetitive dungeons (which I did, Limgrave and Liurnia and Caelid felt so good to complete, but entering Altus and beyond just felt like a chore).

                                                                      • Anonymous

Wow, didn't think this cave posed so much of a problem for most. Keep in mind that this whole area is recommended level 120+ I believe, so you'll need enough attack and defense for sure. The whole cave revolves around snails, if you target their summons you'll have a much harder time. Beast torch worked great for me, the disciple summons are the worry early on. Lure the first one to the top ledge (he'll come up anyway) and when he does jump down and kill the snail you can clearly see from the top. He then evaporates. The more crowded grotto, which was beautiful, you can't see the snails from the top. There are only like two of them, jump down and focus them quick, can't be indecisive with this or not have the beast torch or you'll wipe. Godskins- you've seen them before hopefully (one on the bridge to lurinia tower, the other in north altus). Both are HIGHLY vulnerable to slash damage, so dual katanas is a good route. The skinny one is vulnerable when he does his stretch move, focus on his hips and feet then and you're safe. The big one is harder, a tanky summons will keep his attention, but again dual slash weapons helped me to get them on the first try. Watch the camera, if you get in to the bushes during the fight you can't see what's going on. Hope this helps someone!

                                                                        • Anonymous

Sleep pots really makes Fighting the apostoles a joke. One pot is enough to pot them to sleep (granted that you hit them with it) and ine you can give hima few good smacks, then rinse and repeat. That works for evvery instance where you fight the apostoles.

                                                                          • Anonymous

Tedious areas are one of the main tenants of Fromsoft games. You don't play these to NOT get frustrated.

                                                                            • Anonymous

Flame of the redmanes WA can poise break both the apostle and noble in two casts. Doing that and then critical attacking helped me beat them second try.

                                                                              • Anonymous

I'm curious what happens during the boss fight if you just leave the snail alive after killing both the Godskin bros. But not that curious that I want to do that myself lol.

                                                                                • Anonymous

I was having so much trouble with the bosses (let alone just getting to the boss door), and I was about to give up, but I found a setup that finally worked for me.

I put on Shabriri's Woe, Shard of Alexander, Rotten Winged Sword, and Pearldrake talismans, Buffed with Golden Vow, Physick with Crimsonburst and Opaline Bubbletear, went in, brought out my Mimic, switched Shabriri to Spear Tallsman, and used Cross-Naginata and Death Ritual Spear to poke them to death and then kill the snail. I never want to go back there ever again :-P

                                                                                  • Anonymous

I ran through the cave to the boss door, healed just before entering, entered, summoned mimic, healed, got hit by the fireball, healed again, rolled to the side - mimic was fighting the wolves or something through the door, then disappeared... WTF?

                                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                                      • Anonymous

It's not too bad once you figure out where all 3 (4 if you do the off path) snails are. Just keep in mind that the ghost despawn can be buggy, especially in multiplayer. Sometimes killing the main snail doesn't kill its summons.

                                                                                        • Anonymous

This cave is one of my favorite places to invade. Nebula from wing of astel decimates ganks in the tight passageways.

                                                                                          • Anonymous

For anyone having trouble with the dogs, use the Beast-Repellent Torch, you can buy it from the nomad in Dragonbarrow (Caelid). The dogs will notice you, but won't attack for a while (15-20 seconds, if you're really close to them). This makes it extremely easy to avoid the swordsmen spirits and go for the snails.
Don't attack the dogs, this will make them aggro you. Just go for the snails, and avoid the samurai.

                                                                                            • Anonymous

This cave validate the opinion I was forming that the late game content was rushed, this game falls the **** of and turns to utter dogshit and is abandoned by devs.

                                                                                              • Anonymous

So yeah, this dungeon has a pretty crappy gauntlet leading up to the boss door. Regarding samurai summons, it's actually very easy to kill the snail summoning them . When you enter the room with the samurai, you'll be on top of a ledge, wait for the samurai to jump on the same ledge (he's not aggressive right away) and then drop straight down and the snail will be right behind you. Just start attacking quick to prevent the grab attack.

After that, you'll come to a room with a lot of wolves, I actually wound up using bloodhount step to quickly traverse the area, which was very effective, taking no hits until I got to the boss door (with only 10 mind). Just keep spamming it, as to keep the i-frames up.

                                                                                                • Anonymous

Use beast repellent torch to keep the wolves at bay. Then evade the samurai and take out the snails, your weapons should be able to 2-3 shot them by then.

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

easiest way to kill the boss, sleep pots. they are safe, quick and easy to proc. just make sure to bring a decent amount(depending on how much damage you deal each time they go to sleep) and have fp/fp healing flask to use them since pots consume fp

                                                                                                    • Anonymous

Another cruel side dungeon / boss fight with a tedious and perilous run from the grace. You’ll die from reflex fatigue as the 15 minute encounter drags on and on and on. Didn’t know there would be a serpent at then and stood in the aoe the noble left for me and died. Haven’t been able to kill him again after many frustrating attempts. To find out that the fight is trivialized by sleep is a slap in the face. Really feeling Miyazaki’s sadism here.

                                                                                                      • Anonymous

I was pissed the first time I died to the boss, but it's a straight run back to the arena. You only need to roll 3 times to avoid damage before the boss. Roll the first wolf, fall through the collapsing floor and then roll the hidden wolf that attacks from the left in the area with all the water. The samurai can be run straight past, and has a tendency to use Seppuku so rarely gets close to you if you just sprint. It also only appears once if you just run straight to the boss. Then roll the wolf blocking the tunnel at the end and you'll be able to buff with physick/Golden Vow/whatever before even entering the arena.

                                                                                                        • Anonymous

BIG THANKS to this comment section! I beat them on my first try.

I used Mimic Tear +10 with my usual dual katanas. I switched to Sword of St. Trina - +0 and had to use a talisman to get the minimum 14 int - to put them to sleep a few times while the Mimic tanked. Worked wonders! I used the WA a couple times but I'm not sure if it worked much, didn't matter though.

I also used the Black Knife WA a couple times against the Noble but I wasn't really able to see if it was very effective - it was around 60% hp though so I'm not sure it really did THAT much.

SO MAINLY: use sleep. Pots, arrows, sword, grease - whatever. It works. Once they go to sleep you can really tear into them!

                                                                                                          • Anonymous

All the people suggesting beast-repellent torch... Sure, you can get past the dogs, but the samurai can still go after you. And there's one big wolf right at the end blocking the tunnel. Also, if you're aggroed to anything in the tunnel when you go in your summons will automatically aggro to that threat unless the godskins somehow manage to take priority.

                                                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                                                              • Anonymous

Since my stubborn self insisted on just running through everything to the boss fog, I never got to really buff up and stuff before the fight, so it took me several tries to down the Apostle. It was a close fight with my mimic going down just as he did. I have no words for the feelings when the Nobles health bar appeared.

                                                                                                                • Anonymous

Beast repellant torch also works but sti gotta deal with samurai, just sprint straight to the snails

                                                                                                                  • I finally was able to complete this dungeon after countless tries. First, there is an easy method to get to the fog :
                                                                                                                    - avoid the pit near the entrance.
                                                                                                                    - in the first room with 2 wolves and Snail #1, run down the ramp, jump as soon as the first wolf jumps on you so you can avoid being hit, then either kill the snail (and the wolves despawn) or simply run down into the tunnel on the right.
                                                                                                                    - at the end the tunnel, jump off the ledge on the right and immediately kill Snail #2 that's under the ledge, so the samurai nearby despawns.
                                                                                                                    - the next room is full of wolves : just crouch and walk down the right wall, in the bushes, until you reach Snail #3, kill it.
                                                                                                                    - from there, you should be able to see Snail #4 on the other side of the room. Wait for a few wolves to run away, then rush Snail #4 and kill it, everything else should despawn, otherwise kill what's left.

                                                                                                                    As for the bosses :
                                                                                                                    - I used summon Mimic +10
                                                                                                                    - I entered the room with my usual weapons, so that the Mimic could DPS the bosses.
                                                                                                                    - I cast Rotten Breath on Godskin Apostle, then switched to my Sword of St Trinia +9 and repeatedly hit Godskin Apostle until it fell asleep. Tried and keep it asleep while the Mimic took it down.
                                                                                                                    - Repeat with Godskin Noble : cast Rotten Breath then repeatedly hit with Sword of St Trinia for Sleep status. It worked even better than on the Apostle and I was able to lock it into Sleep, or maybe I was just lucky.

                                                                                                                    • NOTE: if you wait for BOTH the samurai AND wolf to spawn and THEN kill the second snail (the one on the left of the stream from where you enter; still stealth along the right wall FIRST and kill that snail), they will despawn. You just need to avoid getting mobbed by all the wolves in the meantime, so roll roll roll your heart out.

                                                                                                                      • Same as said previously. Totally bs. I stealthed the last section perfectly and took both snails out before they even started summoning (didn't even aggro the wolves); the samurai and wolf still spawn out of nowhere. Ash summon in the boss room just runs mindlessly at the fog wall, completely stupid. WTF FROMSOFT!!!

                                                                                                                        • Anonymous

Best way I found to nail these down was to cheese them with mimic tear and dual black knife weapon art spam. Melted them in minutes and I stayed at range while the mimic tear held agro.

                                                                                                                          • Anonymous

The best way I found so far to deal with these 2 bosses is to use the mimic tear and equip yourself with just the Black Knife dagger. So the mimic uses it to, and just spam the WA. It will melt both bosses very quickly.

                                                                                                                            • Anonymous

The guy who recommended sleep on the duo is absolutely right, used the serpent bow and some sleep arrows and got like 4-5 sleep proc's across the 2 of them when I was summoned, 100% give it a go

                                                                                                                              • Anonymous

I went in the cave. started exploring. I get down below to where the samurai spawn and the game says data is corrupt and cant continue the application. Doesnt happen anywhere else in game and ive gone and slain a few bosses since trying spiritcaller cave

                                                                                                                                • Anonymous

Sleep arrows or craft jars. My preference was crafting jars. One jar knocks each guy out multiple times. Sooo one jar tee off, rinse n repeat

                                                                                                                                  • Anonymous

This place is bugged, 1 samurai and 1 direwolf are cheaters both are staying after taking out the slugs, they can also see me through assassins gambit. My summon just keeps aggroing at the fog door. The samurai shreds me with backstep attacks. The fat noble rolls in place on top of me when I try to dodge through him. What an excellent dungeon. But hey if I want to take a break I can just go get ganked by Niall.
