Starlight Shards are a Consumable Item in Elden Ring. Most Consumables grant various effects such as restorative properties for recovering HP, removing certain negative status effects, or applying temporary buffs and debuffs, while others can be thrown at enemies to deal damage.
An ephemeral sliver that gives off a pale blue glow.
What remains of a passing flash of starlight.
Use to gradually recover FP.
A prized item that was once used in the Eternal City as an ingredient in intoxicating draughts.
Starlight Shards Use in Elden Ring
- Can be consumed to restore 2 FP per sec for 60 secs (120 FP Total).
- Can be traded for Spirit Ashes with Preceptor Seluvis.

And absolutely no-one is cheating with these things are they? Nope, no-one at all. Nobody.

For good ol' coop, Ancestral Horn and offhand Sword of Milos is good enough.
For PvP? Fromsoft should just remove the fact it's a consumable. Being able to have a "caster build" with 10 mind or a total of 1200 FP is stupid.
- Anonymous
The Cerulean Dagger and Ancestral Horn don't ask for much. Just a bit of patience and a few enemies to fight. No NG+, no juggling save files, just some light, passive regeneration to keep you going and save your Flasks for emergencies.
- Anonymous
This comment section is a very clear example of why From needs to remove PvP from these games altogether.
- Anonymous
Yeah I'll admit, I've stockpiled a bunch of these and use them for Co-Op. Super useful since I tend to run spell heavy builds and also like to provide buffs and healing. It's pretty much enabled me to help Hosts clear entire dungeons/areas without running out of Flasks.
So uh... at least I'm using them for good?
- Anonymous
Hey, isn't there one at the Deathrite Bird on the way to Castle Sol?
10 duped Starlight Shards give 5.5 maxed out flasks' worth of FP AT RUNE LEVEL 1. 1200 FP while you have a bar 16 times smaller (75 MAX FP, 9 Mind). Soulsborne games are made by headless chickens. The carrying maximum should probably be 3, and the FP should be a percentage of MAX FP instead of a flat value. There are three problems right now: 1) It makes PvP an absolute chore that makes you wish you were spending the time learning an instrument (or other life skill) instead, 2) Spells are designed to be a powerful yet limited resource, but with the shards they're just powerful 3) It absolutely wrecks players at low rune levels, even if a mage only had FP flasks they would not hold a candle against 10 duped Starlight Shards.
- Anonymous
Couldn't be a good invader without these, I use like 25 of them every gaming session.
- Anonymous
These should work like Raw Meat Dumplings. You can only hold three at a time and they proc a negative status effect (sleep?). In my opinion, since Starlight Shards give you FP over time instead of instantly like the Raw Meat Dumpling does for health, the negative status effect should also be applied over time. I think Sleep would be the best negative status effect for this. Over time, while you have the buff, the Sleep meter slowly rises (and it will fill before the buff is over unless you do something about it). This downside should be counteracted by a buff to its recovery power.
Finally, these two items should be craftable.
- Anonymous
I don't care if you find 20 per ng, if it can't be farmed i will not use it.

I don’t understand how the community accept the abuse of this thing during invasions. Duping shards to have free FP is cheating. Most pvp players avoid any investment in mind and do not bring blue flasks; if you want to stay at 125 with mind at 10, you should accept your FP bar is limited. Starlight shards should be DISABLED in any pvp session.
- Anonymous
You should be able to craft/buy these.
HP has several healing incantations, blessed dew talisman, icon shield, crimson dagger, craftable, yellow stones, prayerful strike, blood tax, great stars.
Meanwhile for FP the cerulean dagger is ok but not reliable for mages, the axe and the ancestral horn talisman give pitiful amounts of FP back, and the starlight shards are not craftsble and non respawnable. Just limit the amount in PvP for balance porpuses and that's it.
- Anonymous
if i get invaded and its a drawn out fight where the invader ends up using 10 of those (maximum he can hold), i wont bat an eye because theres the possibility he got them legit and it would be unfair to freak out on the assumption they mighthave cheated. meaning that regardless of the invasion outcome it would be irrelevant if they cheated or not.
but lets be honest thats not what the underlying issue is being debated in the comments. the issue is that invaded players with multiple advantages and equally as many skill issues lost at some point to an invader miserably because they have been forced in a involuntary pvp session simply for wanting to share the game experience with friends or in co-op
theres no fix for starlight shards because theyre not broken. "fixing" them would just direct people to complain about something else caused by the forced pvp
- Anonymous
I hope the dlc adds a rune arc shop with these and other rare materials. It would be nice to spend rune arcs for things that would actually matter
- Anonymous
"x10 Starlight Shards can be found all around the Site of Grace at the center of the Cathedral of Manus Celes and x1 more at the cliff nearby"
There are only 9 around the Site of Grace, and then 1 more at the cliff.
- Anonymous
It´s soo funny to see all of these people complain about gankers with this consumable
-You ALWAYS have numbers advantage or even
-Great runes
-More flasks
-No friendly damage
-You can resumon blues and phantoms infinitely
Also, you can have a max level phantom just because
- Anonymous
Two unlisted shards are near the deathbirdnear castle sol and at the village near Azur along the cliffs.
- Anonymous
Typically used for invaders who dupe or use cheat engine to have about 1200 fp or more with the use of flask, that's one of the reasons why those games will never have a competitive scene, too much cheat engine and dupe stuff
- Anonymous
Should just make them buyable and reduce the amount which you can carry at once. 10 is an absolutely crazy amount to have at once.
- Anonymous
great choice not making these respawn/buyable at any point and forcing players to dupe them for pvp since their flasks are halved, definitely goty game design if you ask me or the competence police
- Anonymous
I currently have 19 shards in my inventory and purchased both the cheapest puppets, making the total 24 possible shards. I have no idea where I got the additional shards from, I obviously didn't dupe or anything.
- Anonymous
This and the other exceedingly rare/limited items that motivate people to dupe them have cultivated some of the most unpleasant invaders and to a lesser degree hosts/phantoms possibly ever in Fromsoft history.
You know exactly the kind of invader, the one that immediately runs to the other side of the continent if he's in danger, pops a starlight shard, waits behind an enemy, tries to cheese you with arrow rain and duped golem arrows, exclusively running pokes with thrust weapons or halberds the microsecond you engage an enemy or try to stormhawk axe you after you've gotten impatient.
Better off just letting them kill you or jumping off a cliff at that point because they'll waste like 30 minutes of your time with the ultra passivity if you refuse to take the bait.
- Anonymous
While I think infinite buying would have to be rather expensive given how incredibly good these are, I would like if after killing Radahn these would rarely drop from the sky as a falling star. Just a little more world flavor that would be actually useful and encourage chasing down wherever it landed.
- Anonymous
these are so useful against invaders at the first step, easy to dupe too
- Anonymous
I use these constantly as a ganker in limgrave, I downloaded a cheat save that has like 600 and I just refresh the save file every time I run out.
- Anonymous
hope limited items like this and string are eventually put on a vendor for sale or able to be crafted. When dupping is so easy you might as well make it not necessary and give every player the chance to buy/craft as many as they want
- Anonymous
Maybe if these weren't being duped by everyone the game would be less full of WA spam and be better for it.
- Anonymous
So if there’s only like 10 in game, how do some people I invade just keep using these like they’re as common as mushrooms? They have unlimited healing with these and warming stones…
- Anonymous
you know a boss fight has gotten real if you need to pop one of these
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
arena made wannabe duelists wake up in 2023 & realize those are incredibly broken. This + Invasion = truecombo
- Anonymous
doesn't matter if they were acquired ""honestly"" or not, the fact you can hold 10 is baffling game design
- Anonymous
All those people complaining about dupers don’t realize that console players can back up their save files and reload it when they run out. No duping needed. Anyone can do it.
- Anonymous
This item is making investing into mind obsolete, heavily reducing the meta level. Without this, we can see people arguing to reach a minimum mind for an effective melee build invasions. Purchasable or not, this thing should not be allowed in colosseum and invasions.
- Anonymous
Way too much duping going on with these. Their use as a consumable needs to be removed
- Anonymous
Either remove their ability to restore fp or make them buyable in lets say hallig tree for 3.000 elden shekels a piece. I dont wanna resort to duping, but this makes me want to because i feel left out
- Anonymous
The ones located at manus seles should respawn. Making these a limited resource is pure nonsense.
- Anonymous
Gotta love the amount of salt in the comments.
They're perfectly fine as they currently are. But they should not be limited.
We should be able to craft them with rare materials or buy them for a ton of runes.
- Anonymous
I get that having lots of mana on tap can be unbalancing... but From added a variety of non-flask items to boost HP like Warming Stones and Raw Meat Dumplings. Making Starlight Shards a farmable currency would reduce the incentive for duping.
As a primary caster, I still invested heavily in Mind, and as another character type, the mana cost of most non-spell abilities didn't matter much.
- Anonymous
Not only do these invalidate mind, but they also obviate the need to invest in blue flasks. A stack of shards restores more FP than 5 blue flasks (1200 vs 1100), and since shards regen over time, a low-mind build can easily use every point restored. By contrast, below 38 mind, a blue flask is guaranteed to waste a portion of its FP. Unless you're a heavy caster, the instant FP restore is almost never worth it.
- Anonymous
I don't care what you say. I'm duping this so i can use it in co-op when i run out of fp.
- Anonymous
The most expensive thing you can buy with these is only 5 starlight shards, so why on earth can you hold 10???
- Anonymous
Nothing to see here folks, just another poorly-conceived feature that lets people snowball a victory in pvp
- Anonymous
ruins arena fights when people can just pop this after you die
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
The whole duping debacle just makes me wonder why simple/crescent infusions never came back, make it restore % of total fp instead of a flat rate to complement mind instead of invalidate it.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Duping these should = instant 180 day ban. Same with any item requiring ropes to craft. F*cking stupid watching some "PrO pvP iNvAdeR" harrass level 20 players having +12 flasks and endless supply of craftable items. Why isn't there a Seed of the Giants in this game?
Oh well. Anyone who wants to coop, get yourself the Seamless Coop Mod :) Let's kill the invader scene, together!
These are really useful for builds that don't have a lot of Mind. I've got a build focused around using Scholar's Armament with Lusat's which I unequip after casting the buff due to not having any Mind for Sorceries, so instead I utilize Consumables like Crystal Darts, Magic Pots, Glintstone Scraps, Gravity Stones, the Wraith Calling Bell, the Omen Bairn, etc. There's no shortage of Consumables that require FP to use, which makes the Starlight Shard theoretically extremely useful even for builds that don't use magic, like with Frenzyflame Stones, Albinauric Pots, or Aromatics. If only it wasn't finite... I hope they eventually add a way to farm these legitimately, even if it was extremely difficult to farm. Add something like a respawning Malformed Star in Ainsel River that can drop one of these with low odds, even if it was super difficult, I'd be happy because these things would be worth the grind.

Guy says people complaining about duping is ridiculous when it's a limited item, and the game is more than just invasions. Bad game design is still bad game design.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Getting mad at people for duping these is ridiculous. You’re going to encounter someone using them regardless of whether anyone is actually duping them or not. Also the use time of these are incredibly slow and can easily be punished
- Anonymous
There is another Starlight Shard at Hermit Village on Mt. Gelmir. East side of village in front of Astrolobe/ Moondial.
- Anonymous
enables really wonky invasion builds where they dont have to bring any blue flasks or level mind at all and they can just bloodhound step forever.
- Anonymous
Why can you hold so many of these? mind was already an undervalued stat, but this just makes it damn near useless when duping exists
- Anonymous
the one in weeping peninsula is just southeast of oridys's rise, up on a higher shelf of rock overlooking the sea, for those who can't/don't want to open the map. you should be able to see the astrolabe (the stone bowl looking thing) as you approach
i promise i don't mean this in a *****y way, i'm sure the guide was just written when the game first game out and if it bothered me i could just make an account and fix it myself, but the description "near a cliff in the weeping peninsula" really tickled me. near *a* cliff. just, you know, the cliff they've got over in the weeping peninsula, there.
the weeping peninsula is *all* cliffs. the entire peninsula is made of cliffs. there is not a speck of peninsula you can traverse that isn't somewhere near a cliff
- Anonymous
Should be able to buy as many as you want so normal players have a chance against cheaters after you've completed Seluvis Quest.
Change my mind.
- Anonymous
I'm pretty sure I sold one of these early on because I just needed a tiny bit more souls to buy a new level or something... Really wish they wouldn't have let me do that.

mage gankers will be in shambles when they nerf the amount of these you can carry

How are y'all running out of flower power so often? Just allocate some extra razzberry flasks and level up mind some more.

There are exactly 23 Starlight Shards in the world, and 1 is exclusive to Sellen's quest about Azur and Lusat (gained after finding the second one), making a total of 24.
- Anonymous
Others mentioned it already, but these two are the same one:
"x1 Found in front of a stone astrolabe located in northeast Caelid. Close to Bestial Sanctum."
"x1 Found at a stone astrolabe northeast of the Farum Greatbridge Site of Grace."
I clicked the map link to make sure as well, the spot marked is the same place

"x1 Found at a stone astrolabe on one the cliffs in the east side of the Liurnia of the Lakes region, south of the Artist's Shack overlooking the fog-covered Academy Gate Town and Gate Town Bridge." It's way further from the Arists Shack than the Bridge site. Fast travel to the Gate Town Bridge site of grace. When you load in, look due east. The astrolabe this refers to is visible at the top of the cliff. There's a path nearby that can take you up there but be wary of the numerous white wolves all over.

I'm one of the suckers that used these to refill my FP when I was out of cerulean flasks but didn't want to reset at a grace checkpoint and do everything over. I just got lucky in that I happened to read the wiki for seluvis and his secret sex puppets before I used them all. I at least had enough left to buy the dung puppet ashes. I got the weird Y-Front wearing Jarwight for free and I can get Delores the sleeping arrow from Pidia's dead body after his puppets kill him so not a big deal.
Just because I got lucky though doesn't mean everyone will have learned there is a better use for the starlight shards than emergency FP refills before finding they don't have enough left to buy puppets from seluvis. There are ten listed as available a good way into Ranni's quest but I haven't gotten very far into that yet, and if access to that area is after giving her the fingerslaying blade it will be too late anyway, seluvis will be dead at that point. I can't see any good reason or excuse for not including any information about how rare these things are in their item description, or any hint about being currency for sorcerers. The description of "use to gradually recover FP" gives the impression that's all they are good for.
Just for some perspective, I have seven golden seeds that are worthless because I can't upgrade my flasks any further. Fair enough not being able to upgrade your flasks is a bigger deal than not being able to buy puppet spirit ashes, but how hard would it have been to leave a secret stash of these starlight shards somewhere for this eventuality, or just have a few more around to find before completing Ranni's quest line ?
"special items", "non-farmable", "scarce currency", well, best I can do is 50 runes a piece lmao. Can they at least let us sell these once-per-run type of items at a reasonable price? There's so many items that can only be obtained in a limited number per run, but they're all worthless, price-wise. I wouldn't care about nascent butterflies, arteria leaves, starlight shards, etc. being obtainable in limited quantities per run if they would at least let us sell them at a decent price. I wager most players won't use the majority of these items anyways, why not let us turn them into a good chunk of cash? 10k per Starlight shard sound reasonable? Even that feels low, considering the supposed incredible scarcity of these items. It's kind of weird to see such a unique and rare item be on par with 2 1/2 regular arrows.
"...these special items are also actually a non-farmable and extremely scarce currency for the special shop run by Preceptor Selvius."
So, if you are using them to restore FP, you are basically making a whiskey and coke with single barrel rye whiskey.
- Anonymous
When out of mana, I'll just go popping these around while hosts watch in jealousy.
- Anonymous
I believe the location of one of these isn't listed on this page. There is an astrolabe very close to where the Death Rite Bird spawns on the way to Castle Sol. It is on the cliff south of the Castle. On the northern part of the graveyard strip of land. I don't know how to get coordinates on ps4.

“x1 Found at a stone astrolabe northeast of the Farum Greatbridge Site of Grace.”
This is a lie

It'd be nice if these gave FP based on a percentage of your FP bar, rather than a flat amount. It gives people with no FP investment infinite FP for stuff like BHS.

Can't find the one in Farum. I don't see any astrolabe NE of the Great Bridge. Any Map Link or Screenshot?

" It will automatically be taken back out of the storage chest and placed in the player's primary inventory when resting at a Site of Grace, so players intending to use them to purchase Spirit Ashes must take extra care not to lose them."
or just, y'know, turn that setting off.

With these being limited in terms of availability, this'll be the first FromSoft game where there was a magic bar and no way to permanently passively regenerate that bar. Demon's Souls had the ring, Dark Souls 3 had the gem you could mash into a weapon; neither of which gave good regen and in games where magic was a far less justifiable investment. I think the potential cheese in PvP could be easily enough remedied by making a fp version of the warming stone, or maybe have it apply a debuff to defence so it's way riskier to use in combat, perhaps both. As it is, it's a consumable that isn't worth consuming due to being puppet ashes currency. Even if you were never going to use them to buy the puppet ashes, they're not something worth factoring into a build because their limited availability disincentivises every relying on them.
- Anonymous
There’s a note there about how you can’t permanently store them in your chest because they auto-refill to your inventory.
You can turn auto-refill off. When in “sort chest” just highlight the item and there’s a button for toggling it on or off. For PSX it’s R3.
- Anonymous
I feel like dlc will add a merchant with most of the currently non-renewable consumables. More incentive to purchase it.
- Anonymous
Today I learned these were free fp in my pockets. After all those times where things got hot and unnecessarily spicy when I ran out of fp. After I had already bought out Seluvis. Juat great. Now I have knickknacks and weapons and whatnot to restore fp. But man, sure wish I knew these were more than sex puppet currency.
And yes, I am unable to read because my eyes and fingers were ripped off when I ran out of fp.
- Anonymous
If they made these unfarmable to hinder pvp use i feel like thats a stupid idea. I never got why these games that so heavily punish the player with death also has these kinds of items that are so rare you basically forget about them because theres never an appropriate time to use em. At least the rune things is awarded from helping as a summon, but with all the disconnection errors etc even that is a stupid way. Id say instead invadors cant use OP consumables but the host can, gicing the host some advantage against pvp veterans with builds tailored to obliterate in pvp. Make these kinda expensive but endless supply at some vendor.
We already have wayyyyy to many consumables to keep track of. At leadt make the good ones reliable.
- Anonymous
Organizing your builds/characters via save files and having a friend to trade you these is a decent way to get many of them. They don't really feel broken if used in most situations to me since they don't restore fp in a timely manner. If you chose to use these, they really only help you in dungeons or long invasions. In the case of invasions, they only really help you significantly when the player is able to be in a safe place and realatively passive. Being out of fp and under constant pressure is not going to make these very effective. Also the fact that people who dupe these will make it glaringly obvious that they had by using them poorly in the first place. Obviously ****heads will spam bloodhound step while abusing this, but these people generally aren't extremely troublesome if you have the tools for the eventuallity that someone is going to use this OU ash anyway, without duping starlight shards. I've used all 10 of my save slots for diffeerent ways to experience the game so I've just learned where they all are from replaying it. I give all my shards to a single character so that I streamline the use of the item. I don't see why such a useful item should just not be used.
- Anonymous
Personally, I feel these are a bit too limited to make experimentation with weapon arts or sorceries worthwhile. I can understand the reasoning behind not wanting them to be infinite (Re Meta strats in PVP) however I do feel like it should be worth a bit more than a paltry 120 FP. I feel like a good balance between actually letting Mages or skill dependent players utilize these in PVE while not making them super commonplace in PVP would be to remove the duration. The effect lasts until you die, meaning you'll still be able to use it well enough in PVE scenarios, but relying on it too heavily in PVP will lead you to exhausting your supply
- Anonymous
These feel like they were intentionally designed to reward duping & cheating
- Anonymous
Gotta love invaders with a seemingly endless supply of these, Bloodhound stepping away to spell heal indefinitely. What a joke.
Ahh yes, the "I have plenty of them, but I'll never use them because I might need them later" item of Elden Ring.
DO NOT SELL OR USE THESE! They're used as currency with Seluvis for unique spirit summons, and they're otherwise utter dog fæces... Only worth like 50 runes and totally unrenewable, definitely recommend saving them in your chest until you reach Seluvis.
- Anonymous
Why do they still put these kinds of items into the game? Just items that encourage the use of cheating or duping in order to have an advantage because you can't farm then in a single NG.
- Anonymous
I really hate items like this in PvP, bc for normal players they are a strong but finite quantity item, but for others they dupe them infinitely and now have a limitless supply of what was meant to be a strong consumable that was balanced by being finite. I'd rather them solely be used for trading with Selevus and potentially other vendors.

If I see someone use these, I always block them after the session. You’re cheating. You’re not intended to have 10 duped FP replenishers every single PVP encounter. The game obviously wasn’t balanced around that.
