Use to break one imp statue seal

Stonesword Key is a Key Item and optional Keepsake in Elden Ring. Stonesword Key can be used to break one imp statue seal. Key Items in Elden Ring include a wide variety of items found in specific locations or are given by a related NPCs which are used to unlock areas, quests, and to further progress the game's story.

A sword-shaped stone key.

Breaks the seal on imp statues, but remains embedded in the statue after use, meaning it can only be used once as an item.

Think well before using one.

Elden Ring Stonesword Key Use

Stoneword Keys can be used to open Imp Statues which contain loot. Stonesword Keys are consumed upon use.

Here is a complete list of all Imp Statues that can be opened with Stonesword Keys:

Limgrave

  • Fringefolk Hero's Grave: To access it you need two Stonesword Keys. It can be found near the Stranded Graveyard Site of Grace.
There is a pool full of poison. Run forward and at the end turn right to the stone platform. From there, keep going but you will see a giant mechanical monstrosity coming at you, hide behind the columns on the side to prevent being trampled. In order to get down, use the small rooms or cubbies to advance surely but slowly, notice that there are enemies there. Once you reach the bottom, there's a statue Marika to make things easier while descending, because many enemies will spawn. Once you reach the end. you will enter a boss fight with a Ulcerated Tree Spirit. Defeat it to obtain a Golden Seed and a Banished Knight Oleg. There is a hidden location if you jump down at the beginning of the bridge, there the Erdtree's Favor Talisman can be found. A Stoneword Key can also be found, effectively thus costing you only a single key to access this area.
  • Tombsward Catacombs requires a Stonesword key to access, players can find a Nomadic Warrior's Cookbook [9] past the seal.
  • Used to unlock an underground cavern within Summonwater Village that houses the Green Turtle Talisman.
  • Can be used to open two locked doors at the Roundtable Hold, the first door will require one Key to open, and the second door behind the first requires two keys to open (You'll need 3 keys in total). You'll find the Assassin's Prayerbook behind the second gate.

I've always had more of these than I’ve needed… and yet I never have enough smithing stones to upgrade more than one weapon consistently (unless I metagame and book it to the bell bearings)

I have died so many times after using a stonesword key because I forget to accept the message that comes up telling me I used a stonesword key. Truly Elden Rings toughest boss :(

        • Anonymous

In the "Stonesword Key Use" I found one area you're missing. In Altus Plateau you need 2 Stonesword Keys to unlock the Old Altus Tunnel.

          • Anonymous

The Video Location given under Miquella's Haligtree, in the list of stonesword key use locations, shows the finding of a key in the Haligtree. This doesn't appear to be referenced in the item locations section at all, so perhaps it would be worth shifting it over to that section?

            • These carry over to ng+, coupled with not needing to unlock some of the areas with just loot in them and just coming across some of the keys by just playing you shouldn't really run out even if you do all bosses in ng+.

              • Anonymous

There are 81 Stonesword Keys in the world/playthru, +2 if you take them as a Keepsake (not 100% sure if 2 get removed from the world, like in the case with Cracked Pot Keepsake, but I haven't found any indication that this happens with Keys), and there are 47 Imp Statues for unlocking.

This leaves you with 34 spare Keys.

"Inside a chest in a side room of a building with 5 lightning pot throwing peasants. South East of the Avenue Balcony Site of Grace." I'm pretty sure this one doesn't exist.

FFS just make these far more purchaseable at vendors. How many times I didn't want to explore every square inch of a place just to not fall behind in keys. If anything limits me in this game it's not difficulty, it's finding these stupid keys.

                    • Anonymous

In my playthrough I obtained an extra 34 Stonesword Keys, a total of 46 Stonesword Keys are used to access locked areas in the game (correct me if I'm wrong) Some areas aren't listed on the wiki, and the two rooms in Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree require only 1 Stonesword Key each to access. In total there are 80 Stonesword Keys in the game, +2 if you've chosen them as your keepsake.

FYI I've bought every key ive come across thinking it couldnt hurt to have extra, and I played 120 hours literally doing everything and I still have like 20 keys on me

I think "Found on a corpse located on a camp east from the Grand Lift of Dectus." is more correct than "Found on a corpse located on a camp northeast from the Grand Lift of Dectus.". Directly northeast is a Leydnell soldier camp, while the camp it is referring to is almost directly east of the lift and is occupied by misbegotten.

Ok, what is the point of this? To reward people who explored enough to find stonekey around? Collected enough runes to buy the keys?

Whats the possible lore behind this? It protect anything from a chest to a whole dungeon.

I am not sure if it is just me, but there needs to be some way that the "Stonesword Key was lost with use" doesnt sit there for what seems like a minute. I use a stonesword key Nokstella, Eternal City that had enemies in it and they were able to attack me and the pop-up was still there and I could not target or even attack them. It takes way too long for this message to go away.

Just a word of caution that the "complete" list of statues is not complete. No mention of imp statue in Volcano Manor for Crimson Amber Medallion +1 (1 key), no mention of Weeping Evergaol (1 key). I'm certain there'll be other entries missing. Wouldn't blow your hoard based on this list alone.

If I'm reading this page right, there's a total of about 23 Keys needed to get everything per run, but a total of 80 can be found. So clearly not an intended to be an issue in finding and collecting them. I could be off by a few, but even if I am, it seems to be a ratio of about 3:1 for keys and locks.

Would be nice if the double key doors were marked as such. I quickly realised how tell if a seal requires two keys, but for new players it would be nice to have some warning. The game only says "key was used to break seal" etc and doesn't reflect two keys being consumed.

Maybe just me but there seems to be way more Stonesword keys laying around versus how many Imp Statues are out there. I so many of these but barely find any statues, probably because they want more keys vs statues but I think there should be more utility.

There's a door in Volcano Manor, down the road from the Prison Town Church. Has an Abductor Virgin in it and some zombies - loot is the Crimson Amber Medallion +1.

I think they put way more than needed for a single run in case people aren't super thorough. I'm about to hit NG+ and I have about 20 left with me opening every door I've seen. I think the ones you can buy from Vendors are overflow.

By the Deep Siofra Well Grace, there is one that requires 2 keys as someone mentioned. Using it, it unlocks the elevator and takes you to the Dragonbarrow West Grace site. Haven't seen an item yet but will keep exploring.

3 keys for 3000 each from a vendor on the overgrown path from the main academy gate site of grace. Lots of wolves lurking in the bushes.

This wiki needs a page on all the loot unlocked by each imp statue, would be beneficial to speedrun routers

I used two Stonesword Keys to unlock an elevator at the northeasternmost point of the Siofra River area. It's a shortcut to the Deep Siofra Well grace in Caelid.

There's an imp statue just NE of the "Below the Well" grace at the far NE point of the map that unlocks an elevator. It Takes 2 keys, so I've been unable to unlock it so far, but didn't see it included on the list here.
