when I can't decide which weapon to use, straightswords were there. when I have to break the kneecaps of enemies with square off, straight swords were there. When I acidentally spilled my cola, straight swords were there.

They’re not bad it’s just that everything is so much better it feels bad. Not to mention light greatswords are an absolute slap in the face and have the move set straight swords should get when two handed.

Now that the heavy attack is so fast the 1h moveset is actually really fun, the poke heavy and crouch are great for mixups and piercing damage but straight swords are too damn short to actually have any spacing potential, and they're no good for heavier weapons.

I just wanted a sword that has the short sword 2 handed heavy poke, it feels like elden ring abandoned the realistic-ish weapons and gave us anime bs like you would give a kid a noisy and flashy toy

For me at 80 STR, looking for fire infusion because FIRE SWORD

Lordsworns +25: 305 Physical, 307 Fire
Noble's Slender +25: 298 Physical, 300 Fire

2% less damage for Slender's in exchange for it's length (I can't really notice a difference).

It comes down to fashion imo.

Mechanically one of the best weapon classes, but From hates quality builds now.
Strength builds can use the Broadsword; quality builds have to get to level 180 for the longsword to catch up.

All the somber ones are split damage except the OSS (paired Dex weapon) and SSS (weak gimmick you're supposed to turn into yet another Faith weapon). If you want to two- hand, the broadsword is basically the only one worth using

Fromsoft reduced straight swords into a shitty weapon class in this game. They had the opportunity to fix this class but Miyazaki was like "screw that!" we'll just turn them into discount Greatswords instead. Fromsoft did Straight Swords dirty in this game. They're all either ugly, weak or mediocre. I guess they just couldn't stop sucking greatsword **** for this game. Just look how many playable and strong greatswords there are!

First - a patch with nerfs, now - we have not a single noteworthy straight sword in the DLC... FromSoftware, WHY?!

Envy the variety of the katanas class; effects for almost any occasion + dagger for powerstance.

I miss the times with the Lothric Knight Sword + Irithyll Straight Sword and the Heide Knight Sword... :(

How FromSoftware create stright sword in DLC:
1. Need cool stright swords.
2. Ok, take and copy Sword of St Trina and paste then to DLC as new sword (Velvet Sword of St Trina);
1. Need MORE cool stright swords.
2. Ok, then take and copy Broadsword, but paste it with new visual model to DLC (Stone-Sheathed Sword);
1. NO! REALLY NEED COOL Stright Swords!!!1!!111
2. Ok, create a unique one... But paste it to DLC twice! (Sword of Darkness + Sword of Light)
1. ...
2. Enough? Then put the planned sword into the dagger class (Fire Knight's Shortsword).

1.12 nerfed this class so bad in PVP. Against max poise, can't 1hand R1 stun, powerstance doesn't stun, only way to stun is to have one have cragblade on one of the swords in powerstance. So if you wanna run this in PVP you NEED to run cragblade on the offhand sword. Was it really necessary to nerf the poise damage THAT much? Also Sword and Board is completely useless in PVP now. Did Reddit complain that much about straight swords in PVP?

If anyone wants to try Sword and Board in PvP I highly recommend it, be prepared to lose a lot at first though as the damage and range isn't as impressive as most other weapons you'd see in arena. But the idea of the playstyle is about patience and staying calm against other players, as well as understanding spacing and stamina management. I'm not kidding when I say it'll give you a new perspective in fights. High guard boost medium shield w/ parry and Greatshield Talisman are your best friends (and maybe Green Turtle Talisman) because blocking damage can be just as useful as dodging.

Maybe give it a try sometime if you wanna challenge yourself or just like the look and feel of a classic Knight build. Also make good use of throwables to give yourself more options.

I love many weapons like the regalia of eochaid get buffed by godfrey icon, but I can’t help but to think that should’ve been the case for ornamental straight sword.

I often play sword and board in pvp. If I beat the sweaty double lance dude with storm stomp, they always switch to double sword to smother me. 2 swords are 4 times better than 1 sword. Elden ring math in a nutshell.

So apparently the reason these do so much damage dual wielded is because it has a 1.95 damage modifier compared to around 1.35-1.50 of other dual wielded weapons
