- 1 in Leyndell Royal Capital: In the big room with rats in the sewers, on a body against a wall. [Map Link] [Video location]
- Altus Plateau: Looted from the corpse of a Demi Human surrounded by other demi-humans [Elden Ring Map Link]
- Mt. Gelmir: Can be looted from a corpse lying atop the roof of one of the houses in Hermit Village at Mt. Gelmir. [Elden Ring Map Link]
- Earthbore Cave: On some dead bodies.

Farming locations
- Coastal Cave: Seven Demi-Humans in the first room.
- Lakeside Crystal Cave: On the upper level of the dungeon, there are many Demi-Humans that can be killed.
- Volcano Cave: Five Demi-Humans in the room immediately after the Volcano Cave Site of Grace [Elden Ring Map link] and eleven more deeper in the cave, which is easily swept through. Additionally, there are six more located nearby just outside the cave entrance.

The easiest way to add a string bellbearing would probably be to just add another bell bearing hunter to one of the countless merchant shacks.
Lets hope for something like that in the next update.

I see many pvpers use drawstring so I can only assume they cheat engined these in with the amount they use in a drawn out fight. I just hope From makes string and all of the ingredients for grease purchasable so I don't have to go to the same lengths.

There's a group of 6 demi-humans right between Seaside Ruins Grace and Agheel Lake South Grace, a little to the south, with them fighting with some guards.

Five percent... FIVE PERCENT... the fact that it's easier to buy Rope Molotovs in late-game Bloodborne than to craft Rope Pots in Elden Ring is upsetting.

Game so stingy on consumables PvPers are running save wizard for a megamule save just so they don't have to dupe 60000 items on all 10 character slots.

Decided to farm for Big Knife one time. Took me about 30 tries. (First room in the cave leading to Latenna) Posting it here cause in that time and close to 100 Demi humans later I received 2 strings. Terrible drop rate.

There's five string on a corpse next to another corpse with two Golden Dung. They're south east of the Demi-Human ruins, in the middle of a meadow with small pink flowers and a Demi-Human ambush.

After 130 hours I got 6 Legendary Somber Smithing Stones, 6 Legendary Smithing Stones, 99 Rune Arcs, 13 Dragon Hearts, 18 Larval Tears and 4 string.

There is a better farming spot than the coastal cave, it's the Seaside ruins site of grace, just East of it. There are some Godrick Soldiers as well as 8 Demi-humans. They have the same dropchance (as one would expect) and you can just map teleport back to the Grace instead of Memory-ing so you can keep your Runes.

We should tell Fromsoft to add string as a purchasable item In the community feedback page. Its lame to have to farm for a 5% drop rate item to craft consumables that are quickly consumed

How to use rope bombs and drawstring grease. Step 1, farm demi-humans. Step 2, keep farming demi-humans. Step 3, you've exhausted all your string in PvP, go back to farming demi-humans. Repeat steps 1-3 several times. Step 4, get sick of farming string, dupe it with a friend/alt or spawn it in.

So no ones has mentioned site of grace SEASIDE RUINS I'm level 1 used glinstone arc and in 10 minutes I was able to get about 14 strings.....as soon as you touch the grace head south east and you'll see demihumans fighting through a Flintstone arc and you'll have most killed then head towards the coast and another 8 demi humans are there easy 1 hit kills no matter what level your at get a staff and magic thats it

What's funny is my first hours I spent all my time killing the demihumans on the coast and wound up with a butt ton of string, but no way tonuse it. I was like "oh for ****s sake what am I supposed to do with these"

Lux ruins are not that bad. 10-12 demi-humans and then get killed in front of the marika statue

Most unnecessarily rare item of all time. Rope fire bombs were a super useful tool in PvP in Dark Souls 3, by far my most used tool. In this game they're almost impossible to get, in two playthroughs I have acquired enough string to make a staggering 17 rope fire pots. Just make this stuff buyable with runes.

I dont see it here, but right at the top of the moutain near the pulley crossbow, the little hooded monké fellas seem to have a pretty good drop rate and theres a few of them

Literally almost every armor has some sort of fabric on it plus bows are everywhere yet "not a one" merchant sells strings... #thelandsbetween

It's easiest to farm these in the Volcano Cave using the Starscourge Greatsword or the Gravitas Ash or War. You can get 5 Demi-Humans per run

Fort Haight West has at least 7 Demi in one location. Idk all the numbers but I tend to get 1 drop of string on each farm. Discovery at 250

Almost done with my 2nd NG and I have 69 string. Never once used it to craft. However the EXCEEDINGLY RARE Trinas Lily and Miquellas Lily I have 185 and 142 also never used them to craft. From Im gonna need a bell bearing for string.

It'd be so easy to patch in a couple extra bell bearing hunters for stuff like large glintstone scraps, string, etc. No idea why relatively basic items should require hours of farming.

It boggles my mind why they made it so that cracked pots are not consumed upon using an item, but strings somehow are. In what world is it easier to reuse a pot that's literally been shattered into dozens of pieces than a piece of string that isn't even destroyed at all?

After seeing many comments about how low the string drop rate was I wanted to see if it was worth farming at all for roped pots. All kills were done with 274 item discovery, 99 arcane and the talisman on a magic casting build with 15 vigor, lvl 160, all were easily done.
Medium-sized demi-humans in volcano cave, 5 are very close to the grace.
1000 kills, 132 string, 13.2% drop rate
You can kill 1000 of them in about an hour it's very quick and easy. Not an incredible drop rate, but very doable with minimal effort.

Since no one has mentioned it, first room of Volcano Cave has a pack of 5 demi-humans closely bunched up. No idea if it's the best spot but it seems a lot better than Coastal Cave to me.

The drop chance on these is so ridiculously low and without a place to sell it.... well, roped bombs are a specialty weapon now.

Having such a low drop rate and no way to buy these is just insane. The consumables its used for are burned through quickly so it discourages me from even using them at all because I'll quickly run out with no way to replenish other than farming for hours.
There is a droprate of 3% I got 6 string in 200 demi humans. I farm them in the Limgrave Coastal Cave grace.
Anyone know where to find where to buy this? Missing my roped bomb combos ;(

Do only Demi-humans posses string because they keep stealing it from everyone else, or is twining thread more difficult than forging armaments?
It seems that Volcano cave is the best option. One fully charged Haima Cannon (dragon breath, etc) kills the entire demihuman bunch, and with the white scarab talisman you can quickly collect your strings, along with many other cool items - glass shards, volcanic rocks, glowstones, clubs, scimitars, ultra-light rickety shields for parry enthusiasts, and so on - fun for the entire family!
