Weapons in Elden Ring are pieces of offensive equipment that are used by the player's character to inflict damage against Enemies and Bosses. Elden Ring features 308 Weapons from new categories as well as some returning ones from previous Souls games.

Press and hold the interact button (triangle/Y) and the attack button (R1/RB) to two-hand your equipped weapon.

What are Remembrance Weapons?

Remembrance or Boss Weapons, are special weapons used and dropped by Demi-gods and Bosses. These types of Weapons have the ability to hold additional powers and effects, providing extra perks and advantages during combat.

They can be obtained by redeeming a Remembrance to Finger Reader Enia and selecting one from the provided options. Each Remembrance provides a fixed set of different options that the player must choose from (The Remembrance will be lost after being redeemed).

These weapons are valuable rewards and usually have a superior set of stats compared to regular Weapons. They also have a unique Skill attached to them to complement their already heightened stats.

Weapon Requirements & Scaling

Just like previous From Software titles, all Weapons in Elden Ring have Stat requirements that must be met in order to wield the Weapon effectively. You cannot, for instance, use the Skill of a Weapon if you don't meet its requirements, so plan accordingly, and look for Weapons that you can use effectively.

Scaling is how much damage is added to a Weapon due to your investment in a specific Stat like Strength or Dexterity for example. Elden Ring also handles this in a similar manner to the Souls franchise with "S" being the best Scaling, followed by "A", "B", "C", "D", and "E".

In short, the better the letter, the more damage you will deal by investing in the specified scaling Stat. Some Weapons have more than one Scaling Stat, so pay attention to what these are and make sure to increase the ones that give you the most damage per Attribute Point invested.

You can change the Scaling on Weapons if you change the Ash of War depending on which Whetblades you have found. For example, if you infuse the Weapon with the Heavy Infution it will remove every Scaling besides STR and upgrade the STR scaling on the weapon.

Weapon Damage Types

All Weapons in Elden Ring have one or more Damage Types. For instance, the Longswords do both Standard and Pierce Damage. This is because its normal attacks are considered Standard Damage, while its (R2/RB) attack is a thrust, dealing Piercing Damage. Knowing what Damage Types your chosen Weapon does can benefit you since many enemies are weak or resistant to certain types of damage.

Additionally, you can change the Damage Type of many Weapons in Elden Ring by slotting Ashes of War into them from the Ashes of War menu at a Site of Grace. Selecting your Weapon in this menu will show you which Ashes of War you can use on your Weapon from the ones you currently possess.

For instance, if you use the Ash of War: Gravitas on your Longsword you will add Magic Damage to the Weapon, on top of the other Damage Types. Slotting this Ashes of War will also change the Scaling of the Longsword from STR D and DEX D into STR D, DEX E, and INT C, allowing you to take better advantage of your Intelligence Attribute. This makes Magic Damage a good type for those using Sorceries, since these get stronger the more Intelligence you possess.

Weapon Upgrades

Weapon Upgrades in Elden Ring are done at the Smithing Table. Here you will be able to use Runes and Smithing Stones you've gathered to Upgrade regular Weapons and Somber Smithing Stones to upgrade unique Weapons.

When you Upgrade a Weapon it goes from the base version to the "+1" version of the same Weapon, indicating that it has been Upgraded 1 time. This not only increases the damage of the Weapon, but in some cases, it will also improve the overall Scaling of the Weapon. For instance, when you Upgrade the Longsword to Longsword +1 the Strength Scaling actually improves from D to C, improving the damage you gain from investing in Strength.

Unlike the Souls games, there are no "Gems" or other materials you use to change the damage type of Weapons. Instead, you use the Ashes of War and Whetblades you find throughout the game. These can be assigned or removed from your Weapon as well, allowing you to try many different versions of your current Weapon, to see what you like best.

  • See the Upgrades page for more information about this topic

Weapon Parry Frames

Listed below are some equipment Parry Frame numbers still in preliminary testing. They are listed with the start of the parry frame and the number of parry frames.

Weapon Skills & Ashes of War

Most Weapons in Elden Ring come with a Weapon Skill that can be used by pressing the L2 button. These Skills consume FP when used, which is the blue bar located below your HP bar, and each consumes different amounts based on their relative power. Some Skills can even be "Charged" by holding L2, making them use more FP, but with increased damage or effectiveness.

Most Weapons in Elden Ring can have their Weapon Skill replaced by slotting an Ashes of War into it. This can be done at a Site of Grace in the Ashes of War menu. This allows you to mix and match Skills with the Weapon you prefer to use, though not all Ashes of War work on all Weapons. Certain Ashes of War are limited to only a specific type of Weapon.

Using Ashes of War is not a permanent change, and can be undone at any time by revisiting a Site of Grace and "Un-enhancing" your Weapon. Or you can replace it with other Ashes of War if you like. Keep in mind many Ashes of War also allow you to change the Damage Type of the Weapon or just the Scaling, such as if you select "Keen" or "Quality". However, this is not mandatory and you are free to keep your "Standard" Scaling if you don't want to change this, and you can still use the Weapon Skill anyway.

Note that not all Weapons allow the use of Ashes of War, such as those that possess unique Weapon Skills like Reduvia.

Hey yall can I have some advice on a good big str weapon? Ones I already used are great mace, great stars, guts greatsword and some others. Was thinking the Watchdog greatsword. Is it worth the grind? Pure str, no magic or anything

      • Anonymous

*ADVICE* If you Powerstance with certain Weapon classes or two-hand a large one, you may use throwing knives, Poison Bone Darts or Fan Daggers in-between your attack strings or as a true combo.

        • Anonymous

Best melee weapon in each class, my opinion.
Knife: scorpions stinger, gasp yes I chose scorpions over black knife and reduvia. Fight me
Straight sword: nobles straight sword, LONG golden boi
Greatsword: blasphemous blade, yes I think this weapon is better then dark moon, mainly since dark moon R2 is horrid with out the buff and buffing mid fight is hard with some bosses.
CGS: zwei, POKE > guts R2.
Thrusting sword: clean rot, it’s basically the murky of ER.
Heavy thrusting sword: dragonlord, you can argue that any HTS is the best but lighting is a good element and the weapon art hits like I truck
Curvy sword: scavenger, curve swords are good for status effects, this is basically the best for status effects
Heavy curve: bloodhound, hits hard, can be buffed, has a great WA, sober weapon.
Katana: naga, do I need to explain myself?
Twin blade: Eleonora, bleed go brrrrrrrr
Axes: rosus’s axe, spooky scary skeletons break your spine in half.
Great axe: butchering knife, big Healy chop
Hammer: nox flowing hammer, SPINNING SMASH
Flails: basterds star: it’s a L2 stick, and it does it well.
Great hammer:envoy great horn, big doot makes big boss go bye bye
CW: ghiza wheel, pizza wheel makes funny sound BRRRRRRR
Spear: Nagi, * duel Nagi trama intensifies*
Great spear: Mohgwyn, Bleed master spear, if it can bleed it will die.
Halberd:Dragon halberd, don’t at me, it’s a good weapon, and it has frost with lighting damage.
Scythes: grave scythe, do I need to explain myself for this?
Whips: magma whip, I just hold the L2 button and walk at the ememy and they all die.
Fist: grafted dragon, they all laughed at the sock puppet, until the puppet explodes in their faces and set the room on fire.
Claw: raptor claws, R2 nuff said.

Praying for more somber quality weapons in the DLC. In DS3 quality builds generally got worse AR compared to Heavy/Sharp infusions on dedicated builds, but had massive selection of cool unique weapons with great scaling in both stats, and I think ER is currently severely lacking in this regard

            • Anonymous

please stop looking at the scaling letters to decide whether or not a weapon deals good damage; malenia's hand, for example, gets a good 48 AR on keen nagakiba with 14 str/75 dex, despite having B and A scaling respectively

So its been almost a year since last balancing patch that flipped the whole game upside down.

Would be nice to see some changes in hyperarmor cause its ridiculous.

                • Anonymous

Small advice: if you want a good blackflame tornado aow you can use guardian swordspear or grave scythe. The first has 266 scaling and the second one has 276. Damage increase is noticeable. Messed up knights and omens with ease

                  • Anonymous

People really struggle to understand that scaling =/= damage. It's called scaling for a reason - it makes the *base damage* of a weapon scale with your stats. A weapon with high *base damage* and low scaling can easily outdamage a weapon with low *base damage* and high scaling. You can just go to a damage calculator and see for yourself before looking at the wiki and calling a weapon trash because it doesn't get S scaling at max upgrade level

                    • Anonymous

If you play pvp and are tired of getting spammed by wizards use assassin’s gambit. It doesn’t allow them to lock on to you and since most spell users are brainrotted you will make quick work of them

                      • If you guys could add a weapon from any previous souls game to Elden Ring what would you pick? I'd love to see the DS2 Majestic Greatsword and its left handed moveset.

                        • Anonymous

Seems that the main use you can give to the greatbow is to equip it with rain of arrows in invasions. It does little to no noise unlike radahn bow, so there’s equally low chance you’ll alert people when using it stealthily

                          • Anonymous

Urumi and invisible blade. Chamge between light and heavy attacks/jump attacks, and the charged version. I’ve seen people falling for it too often so don’t sleep on it

the 'throwing daggers' in the dlc trailer looked more like the spectral lance ash of war than a whole new weapon type to me folks

Do we really need a "Great Katana" class?

We already have the nagakiba, do we need a 20m long katana while we have nothing like the black blade from ds3 in this game, short ranged high damage swords

Looks like admins have yet to add in the new upcoming DLC weapon classes:

                                  * Throwing daggers
                                  * Colossal spears
                                  * Flamethrowers
                                  * Gang signs
                                  * Actual human feet

some people were commenting about how to PKCS is the best weapon in this game, what is the PKCS where do i find it, ive been looking all over and i cant find it please help me find PKCS

Cant wait to ravage Malenia with double barrel in that upoming gatcha mobile game that im gonna spend my kids college money on. Hell yeah videogames

Those "8 new weapon categories" seems a little bit like mistranslation. Either way I hope its not quantity over quality, like it is right now. I dont want another weapon category, like greatswords, where there are 20 weapons that are the same with a different blast wave as a skill

                                        • Anonymous

I think I got an idea for ripple crescent halberd that might be a little too fcked up:

Apply your classical sleep buildups and when the effect procs use drawstring blood grease and follow up with spinning slash.

The blood loss buildup (121 if stats are good) will be high enough to obtain the damage.

And I guess this is way too cheesy to even respect so don’t expect any of that when using this

Feeling hyped after the dlc trailer! reverse griped weapons, daggers throwable, f**king gael's crossbow?! :D

                                              @Anonymous 20 Feb 2024 21:21

Your tier list is too broad and might be misleading.

Just because two or more weapons are in the same class doesn't mean they'll work effectively on any build.

Overall move-sets, Infusions, Powerstance combinations, Damage output, Damage types, Poise damage, Ash-of-War(s), Skills, Weight units, Weapon range, Talisman combinations and Spells all need to be taken into account.

Not to mention, tools or consumable items shouldn't even be in F-Tier. They're just ammo, greases, etc.

Use dragon king cragblade and a weapon on the left hand with glintblade phalanx aow. Cast the blade aow and then follow with the fast thundercloud form. Opponent won’t have a good chance of dodging both attacks, and if the phalanx staggers him he’s fcked.

Strongest Weapon on each Build (Opinion)

                                                      Strength => Greatsword
                                                      Dexterity => Guardian’s Swordspear

As many flaws as i find in quantity over quality kind of things here, there is a VERY positive thing elden ring does in comparison to other fromsoft games: whatever your build is, you'll find a weapon suited for it. Even if you don't spend a single rune in levels, you can get yourself a god-slaying weapon.

Fromsoft might be interested in fixing the new bug since they’ll have to launch dlc, even if that takes more months or a year

you know you've lost your touch when lotf has a better powerstance system and gallery of weapon variety than your multi million dollar game that took like 5 years to make

I will never understand why Fromsoft, while sitting on a billion different animations and movesets that appear to be quite easily imported into Elden Ring, refuse to use a good 70% of them. Where is the Ringed Knight Paired Greatswords moveset? The Gael's Greatsword weapon art? Aquamarine Dagger, anyone? What about the movesets for dual wielding different weapons, like the Crow Quills, the Farren Greatsword, and the Valorheart? The unique dual wield movesets provided by certain weapons like the Majestic Greatsword in DS2? I mean, Marika's tits - we already have something similar with the Wakizashi, just way less inspired! We can't even dual wield shields anymore despite multiple different movesets existing for just that across DS2 and DS3. And don't even get me started on the countless Sekiro combat arts, many of which would make for perfect R2/Ash of War material, and yet Ichimonji is the only one that made it - for ONE weapon!

Why do axes and hammers have to have same moveset? Why does that moveset inexplicably have to be different from both the Drang Hammers and Winged Knight Twinaxes from DS3? And why, even then, can't I dual wield with both an axe and a hammer!?

I love this game to bits, but I just can't help but think of what could've been, y'know? So much missed potential, especially considering most weapons in any given class feel pretty much the same. But it's alright, everyone, because as we all know:

                                                                the dlc will fix it

Centipede Demon is a Boss in Dark Souls.

                                                                  Centipede Demon Information
This demon is a large bug like creature which defends the path to Lost Izalith. Its arms and tail are separate living centipedes. The boss has a tendency to stand on the lava after walking through the fog gate and repeatedly use his reaching attack. For someone who is not in possession of the Orange Charred Ring or ranged attacks, this can be extremely annoying.

                                                                  • what's the point in using melee weapons when my Carian Slicer deals like 10 times the damage compared to any other melee weapon in the game lul

                                                                    • Anonymous

the letters are arbitrary, but it does kind of irk me how many things never achieve higher than a B for scaling - even weapons entirely reliant on their scaling to deal significant damage. Obviously if everything can attain S the significance is lost - but so few things even reach A. I feel like the breakpoints could have been shifted around a bit to better illustrate how important attribute scaling is to the weapon's performance.

                                                                      • Anonymous

Straight swords are way shorter than katanas. I don't understand why fromsoft made this exclusively for elden ring, I hate it.

                                                                        • Anonymous

I’ve been trying to wrap my head around the ideas that everyone agree about the aows and the destined death effect these blackblade weapons should have. However I don’t think it’s that easy.

For black gargoyle greataxe that particular attack that plunged the axe into the ground and then causes a shockwave wouldn’t be a terrible idea. You’d need to make some adjustments to aows with a similar dynamic like godrick axe so that they don’t fall behind.

But the twinblade and halberd are definitely something else. They’d be a version of blackflame tornado but faster to perform and that could be difficult to balance. Judging from how they implemented gargoyle black blade, each aow would be a copy of how the bosses attack. Therefore the halberd and twinblade aow would do essentially the same, but I think that the twinblade would be the strongest of all four gargoyle weapons and would actually be straight up broken.

In fact they didn’t use destined death effect because of that notion.

Think about it: if you were to have these options, would you be under the need of using maliketh black blade, black knife, black blade incant or the godslayer greatsword?

Other than pure raw damage per use and aesthetic would some be superior, but in terms of gameplay/level accessibility and longterm performance gargoyle black blade weapons would be too broken even among ALL weapon classes if they had destined death with them.

Even without destined death and only bf damage it would render other sources of blackflame damage useless if you ask me.

Using most blackflame spells, except scouring bf, would be pointless because aows would be faster in applying it unless you counteract the aows with a higher fp cost which idk if it’s a direct solution.

The reason those aows haven’t been added is to preserve the interest in using a variety of blackflame options and to save the necessity of using other destined death sources. And overall to keep the game balanced

But maybe I’m wrong. Maybe fromsoft ran out of incentive to invest more time and resources in these aows or were too damn lazy (last thing I wouldn’t agree though since they kept an aow with gargoyle blackblade). I also remembered that they deal holy damage so that already serves as some counterweight against the aows.

So you all should really question the reason some aows weren’t added. Maybe it was the best decision with the time fromsoft had.

                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                            • Anonymous

Unless you're a content creator who makes shitty montages or god forbid a dark souls 3 fan.

It's all about upgrades. Save yourself a lot of headaches and invest first in ONE weapon, upgrade it always as soon as possible and leave the rest of your toolkit just to have fun, because you know what isn't fun? losing the "do big damage to enemy before enemy does big damage to you" metagame in any new zone you step in, or at a random point exploring. Think of it as a trump card against field bosses/greater enemies that are just awfully annoying for the zones they're in, like fire prelates and gargoyles.

                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                                      • Anonymous

Would it be a good decision if tools were buffed by a specific talisman? Some of them are not underwhelming but all are inferior to basically all stuff I’ve seen in performance and have some requirements so that they don’t deal terrible damage. I know that each tool was meant for a specific function and not like damage sources, like ancestral head to deal area damage and regal omen bairn to track enemies and snipe them. But it still feels like ancestral infant head doesn’t deal enough stagger due to the enemies moving around, and even when fully landing bosses like radagon are not affected with many casts, so that posture damage could use a good increase. I don’t know if it would also help if other equipment could buff them like the sword of milos to the regal omen bairn and winged greathorn to ancestral head, or if the impact of the wraiths should debuff enemies. Not necessary to make them op but at least to have them gain a good position as tools.

                                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                                            • Anonymous

Last tip, any weapon that has innate bleeding and frostbite would do the work done to survive the endgame.

                                                                                              • Anonymous

Armor is now worthless due to everything relying on hyper armor now, multi hit ashes of war are inescapable, and offstoc does infinite poise damage because of spaghetti code

                                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

After 2k hours in the game I can certainly say that str/dex, i.e. melee builds, are undoubtedly superior to int/faith builds due to versatility. The only real advantage behind caster builds is range, which is not very significant because of ranged AoWs, greatbows, ballistas etc which are mainly used by str/dex users. Casters may also outshine them in terms of dps, but it's only due buff stacking, which can be utilized by melee too. But you say that casters have access to status inflicting spells and black flame/destined death that deals percentage based damage? No problem, since Poisonous Mist, Chilling Mist, Black Flame Tornado, poison/rot inflicting weapons and so on all can be used by melee builds. There are also no downsides to putting blood infusion on multihit weapons with minimum arcane investment: if we take +25 blood twinblade for example, the difference between 10 and 99 arcane will be roughly 40 buildup, which is really insignificant considering that you get higher AR because you put levels into damaging stat. I think that's enough explanation for now

It can get annoying, but I've farmed every weapon twice now due to progress loss, and never has a weapon taken more than 25min of consistent farming.

I dont like that From went for hundreds of different AoEs or blast waves for weapon skills and they didnt make even a single weapon with something like bloodborne or ringed city dlc weapons - that could have another moveset under weapon skill button. I dont give a f if my AoE is purple from gravity, or grey from earth stomp, or is it a wind wave or magic wave or sacred light wave its all and the same. There are 300+ weapons but 200 from DS3 (that already had dozens copy pasted swords with a different skin) feel much more, cause they're different from each other (mostly).

I understand why they went for it tho. They have different enemies that need to have a weapon that matches their design, they also need weapons for players that won't explore the game or find merchants. But still, last boss weapons have standard moveset with skills completely separated from their movesets that dont blend well in combos. Now compare it to Burial Blade, Gael's GS, Friede's Scythe, even Firelink greatsword felt more fun to me, cause skill had some free aim potential and a range in a game where only few other weapons had it (in ER everything has it).

                                                                                                              • Anonymous

Axes should have some hyper armor in their running attacks to compensate for how easy it is to avoid or outclass them in a 1v1. Greataxes would be cooler in pve if they sent enemies flying in their heavy running attacks while having some good recovery time

                                                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                                                  • Anonymous

Basically every other soulsborne game. Seriously, the few interesting weapons that remain are holdovers from previous games, like the estoc, or partisan.

                                                                                                                    • Anonymous

We need a big damage weapon like Bloodborne's Stake Driver in the DLC. I know there's stuff like the Giant-Crusher, but honestly, having range is cringe. I want to be the right in some freak of nature's face when I one-shot them.

                                                                                                                        • Anonymous

Interesting to see people complaining about weapons not having unique movesets. Yes, that's true.

Despite From games offering a large amount of weapons, most have the same moveset and some weapon categories just have bad movesets like with fist and spear weapons.

If you want moveset diversity, go play the Nioh games.

At this point, FromSoft really needs to revamp their combat system and weapons as it's just so basic and repetitive even when you pick up a new weapon. If their next action RPG is still using Dark Souls animations and combat system, I'll probably skip it. It's just become boring after several entries reusing the same stuff.

                                                                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                                                                            • Anonymous

It's in the movesets and your preferred playstyle

You can't prove me otherwise
