  • Inflicts Madness buildup on both the caster (4 per flame) and targets (21 normal/28 charged per hit)

Anyone can tell how a dude using this in the arena tanked a naginata piercing fang mid cast and didn't even flinch?

This is great for making those lope level hosts completely crap their pants I like to imagine that they will never want to summon again after I'm done with them

please daddy miyazaki give frenzy more protagonism i want to make my wet dream of a full frenzy build real

You seek the Frenzied Flame to reunite reality back into the One Great.

It matters not that madness doesn’t proc in most PVE - this is a shotgun blast of fire when all is said and done and will incinerate almost anything in front of you. Build your jokerfied crying faith build. Do it. NOW!!!!!!!

              • Despite people praising it on large bosses, its not better than pest threads most of the time. Even on tree spirits, a fully charged burst is not much better than using flaming strike.

                • Anonymous

Amazing at roll catching in pvp, shreds the health of large bosses, massive poise damage, chargeable so it can be buffed easily with several talismans. Cheap, one slot, and it is available early in the game.

Probably one of the best incantations in the game.

                  • Anonymous

Absurdly good given the location and faith requirements, the madness self-buildup is rarely an issue since most targets will be a smoldering pile of ash after 2 charged bursts. Good against large targets from the massive stagger and every shot landing, good against small ones since it's a big arcing shotgun that's hard to miss, cheap enough FP cost to use regularly. Get the timing down on the charge and obliterate most of the game that isn't fireproof.

                    • Anonymous

Don't be fooled by the madness buildup, this has far more use in PvP outside of inflicting madness. Good damage, wide AoE, relatively fast, good range, cheap, delayable AND vertically aimable while it's firing. Bring it as an invader to catch people running after you hit them with something else. Great as a finishing move.

Is this incantation bugged since the last patch? I tried it on the erdtree avatar on the dragon burrow and on the draconic tree sentinel guarding the capital backdoor, and in both cases, it didn’t hurt them but broke their stances. Very weird.

                        • Anonymous

It is a fire incantation but something about how it spreads out feels off... gotta try it on the man-serpents to se if there's lightning or holy added to it.

"But why would it have lightning or holy?" Might be lightning because of it's irregular spread + electricity sound effect, or holy because it's literally the power of an outer god.

                          • Anonymous

I break stances with this reliably in co op, something I can never seem to manage with dragonmaw or lion's claw or giant hunt.

This is great for dealing with nearly any enemy in the game. Dealing with a big enemy? It'll be more likely to multi hit and stance break them. Dealing with a small enemy? Free aim it down at their feet and watch almost every projectile hit them. Dealing with flying enemies? Free aim it up or simply aim it forward and you'll knock them down quickly. Dealing with a group of enemies? Please this spell was made with the idea of killing more than one enemy at a time in mind. Truly a goated incantation.

Fun Fact: Using Frenzy attacks on the small Miranda Sprouts near the Church of Inhibition will cause them to self-destruct. The ones that release yellow pollen. It also causes the big ones to go absolute apeshit

Don't be afraid of the fact that it builds up Madness on you. As long as you don't just spam it over and over you'll be fine. It also does amazing stance damage for how cheap and fast it is. A perfect supportive-attack honestly.

I am trying to get a tattoo of the madness incantation scroll behind the image of the spell. Does anyone here know where I can find that image for reference?

                                    • Anonymous

In PVP when I need to test a player who hasn't really committed to attacking, who just hovers around me, I use this and unless they hit a real deep jumping attack which often gets interrupted, it pays off. Any attempt to run close will get them staggered by the good tracking on the last few flames of the attack, letting you comfortably evade. Although you don't often have to evade, because they'll typically roll back off once that stagger happens, which usually puts them in a good place to cast again.

How a player responds to this too will tell you a lot about their playstyle. Aggressive players who are waiting to pounce will charge you. Passive players who are going to evade all but the most punishable attacks will immediately retreat out of its range. Players who are slow to make decisions might just eat the whole attack. Then you adjust your own tactics from there. Not a killshot spell but definitely a tactical and fun tool.

I'm pretty sure that the "Can be chain-casted as long as player has enough FP" is not accurate. Despite having enough FP, I cannot chain cast this spell.
Can someone else who's more adept at Elden Ring please also test this?

Is chain casting not done by continually hitting L1 with the same spell?

It’s crazy, I remember watching FightinCowboy’s first playthrough and leaning on this spell the whole way, noting how it simply outcompetes most other spells especially in terms of efficiency. I remember thinking this was one spell that for sure would be tuned downward, or at the very least other spells getting tuned upward.

Honestly? This is spell basically the best spell for more than half the game factoring everything together. I force myself to use other spells for variety, but before Giantsflame especially there’s just nothing else. Flame of the Fell God is gutted in how it only hits one mob with the main explosion.

There’s a couple good, semi comparable lightning spells but aside from them, there’s really nothing until the last third of the game. It’s pretty disappointing.

They made this simply too good IMO relative to what else is available.

poise damage is nuts on this thing. Damage and mana cost ratio-wise, it hands down one of the best spells in the game

This and Frenzied Burst are ridiculously good for their utility, shotgun and sniper rifle combo. This can push out incredible damage in close to medium range and with a deceptively short cast time.

Just got ganked by someone moving while casting this, and it went on far longer than usual (even while they were swapping weapons after I was dead). Definite hacker on PC

Good tracking, good mixup, fast cast speed, little recovery, high poise damage, build madness, does shields chips damage, good wake up attack, deadly at point blank, really amazing in both pvp and pve, one of my go to spells with beastial sling, catch flame and honed bolt.

Get this one early folks. Chargeable and does huge damage and stagger to large enemies. Great vs ulcerated tree serpents and erdtree guardians alike. A-tier incantation.

                                                            • Definitely one of the best incantations. And one of my personal favourits. Good againts group of enemies, can stagger big ene,y if casted close to him. Low fp use and faith requires. And you can get it in the very beguining of the game! The only con is what you mostly can cast it two times in a row without getting madness

I wanted to start a frenzy build, but the incantation doesn't even show up on the body. Is anyone else having this issue?

                                                                • I got to this part without knowing that it would ruin the ending and this made me roll back a save. Was playing for 5 hours and had to re-do all my progress. Oh well speedrunned the progress back in 2 hours. Better than restarting a 109 hour run.

If you have Steam Cloud enabled, make sure to NOT close the game, go on Steam Cloud browser version(check google) to check your last saved session, which is probably just before you played and download the file. Then check online where the game save file are located and move your current save files to a backup folder just in case and paste your older save. Boot and replay your session. It's a harsh way to re-do all your progress, but at least you can safely continue your ending.

                                                                  • Anonymous

Very high damage, low cost, short cast time. Even super armor during casting. Only downside is the range. Will stagger everything and anything :)

                                                                    • Anonymous

This spell absolutely destroys large enemies like giants or dragons. Just a couple of casts will break their poise along with dealing massive damage.

                                                                      • This spell doesn't amazingly well against large targets provided you are close enough. It even hits Elden Beast like a mack truck, which would be awesome if the thing didn't keep flying away.

                                                                        • Anonymous

If you're having trouble with the Ulcerated Tree Spirit, get right next to it and let one of these rip. A full cast took off a quarter of its health at a paltry 20 Faith and two casts staggered it to allow a riposte. Absolutely shreds the things.

                                                                          • Only costs 16FP and deals nice amount of damage either towards a single enemy or AoE group. Let's you do about four max charged casts in row before self madness procs at 262/150 focus.

                                                                            • Only costs 16FP and deals nice amount of damage either towards a single enemy or AoE group. Let's you do about four max charged casts in row before self madness procs at 262/150 focus.

                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                  • Anonymous

Preposterous damage output for especially considering low faith req and low FP consumption. The poise damage on top of the actual damage is ridiculously high and large enemies get staggered in like two casts.

Pound for pound the best incantation I’ve come across so far as a level 107 with 60 Faith. Blows flame of the fell god out of the water in every aspect I’ve hit over 2500 on a fully charged one with Flame Grant Me Strength + faith/fire damage physick

                                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                                      • Anonymous

"Can be chain-casted as long as player has enough FP" this seems is not true. Maybe doing something wrong? Every time you try is a full new cast, you can hold before cast but no "chain" on this seems.

                                                                                        • Anonymous

This has to be one of the best incantations, especially for madness builds, in the game. The reach is good, the spread is incredible, the fact that you can charge it gives you extra damage and also allows you to potentially bait in PvP. Speaking of PvP, madness as a whole is absurd in PvP because it essentially stuns the enemy into taking a free hit. And it's very easy to apply madness with the ground this spell covers.

                                                                                            • Anonymous

Extremely powerful early/midgame PvE incantation, at a very reasonable FP cost no less. It's especially useful against large enemies as it also obliterates their poise. Most bosses will get staggered by ~2 charged casts. Very low FTH requirement lets you use this with next to no commitment to faith, provided you're using Godrick's greater rune and/or a Flask of Wondrous Physick with a +10 FTH buff in it.

Madness seems like an interesting mechanic. I wonder if there will be like an effed up op incantation that gives you instant madness lol

Get to safe range and charge cast it, and the bigger the body the more pieces of the spell will hit them. Prophet start class plus this spell CARRIED me...
