My favorite spot is in front of converted tower. A group of 8 sheep is a few steps down the grace point just pick them with a bow collect on horseback and repeat.

If you don't have access to any AOE spells to farm deer, the AOW Gravitas is perfect and you can get it early.

Doing some math, it doesn't seem particularly cost-effective to purchase thin bones for ammo, as bolts require 2 bones for 10 coming out to 30 runes per bolt and arrows require 3 bones for 10 coming out to 45 runes per arrow. For comparison, buying hefty beast bones for the crafting of greatbolts and greatarrows comes out to 50 runes per shot for either one. To reiterate, it's effectively the same cost per arrow as it is per greatarrow, and even the more efficient bolt recipe only costs half as many runes per bolt as greatbolts.

I will concede that many people would likely prefer to spend money to stock up ammo rather than time - especially with runes becoming more and more readily available as you advance through the game - but it costing the same amount of runes to make an arrow as it takes to make a greatarrow seems kind of absurd to me, especially with the difference in cost between buying standard arrows and standard greatarrows.

When you're farming these, take a page from the Hillbilly Dynamite Fishing manual. Cannon of Haima at the animals in Ancestral Followers areas will reap massive rewards. BEHOLD MY WAREHOUSE OF THIN BEAST BONES!

You can find a red phantom boss at hut of the warrior master in the deep night. You can kill him, so he drop ashen globe for two maiden at roundable table hub to buy unlimited bones.

I've found casting a Dragon Breath on the three herds SW of Church of Pilgrimage to be one of the quickest way to farm them. One sweep will usually kill 4-7 of them.

To get a max inventory of these costs 299 700 runes. The crow in Mohgwyn Palace gives ~13 000 (with the golf scarab equipped).
                  That basically means:
                  299 700 ÷ 13 000 = 23.05
You need to kill the crow 23 time to max out your inventory with these on NG

I feel like people are sleeping on Siofra River Bank. Decent herd of deer just east to site of grace. quick AOE and reset in less than a minute

Church of Dragon Communion is a good spot .. sheep bunnies and pinguins for bones and feathers in short distance of spawnpoint

I just have to get this off my chest...why the hell isn't wood available as a crafting material? It's not like this is a world with no trees or where nobody has come up with the idea of using wood rather than bone to make stuff. And it's not like they don't let you harvest a lot of other crucial consumable crafting components from plants.

It's fine, hunting animals is a bit more entertaining than picking berries and flowers. It would still be fun if you could make normal wooden stuff with something like a "fallen branch" pickup but bone versions were better. But since you need feathers anyway it's fine.

Go to warmaster's shack at night, kill the invader, give the invader's bell bearing to the husks at the roundtable. Now you can farm runes instead to buy them in bulk.

Below Revengers Shack, Follow the trail, to the right of the Erd Tree. There is a massive hoard of farmable goats.
Super easy I shoot arrows to kill them all and come out still +40-50 arrows

Stormhill shack is the best place to farm wolves, just go down the slop a bit and 4 wolves will ambush you
