Elden Ring Tonic of Forgetfulness Use

Tonic of Forgetfulness can be given to Rya for her questline.

A dialogue option also appears to give Brother Corhyn the Tonic of Forgetfulness upon advancing his questline to Mountaintops of the Giants near the Stargazers' Ruins. Brother Corhyn will refuse the potion and the item will remain in the player's inventory.

      He doesn’t refuse.
He drinks it, it just doesn’t disappear from your inventory.
      Perhaps an oversight.

It’s very clear, because he turns out exactly like snake-girlfriend when she takes it. He just stays in the mountaintops, unaware of what happened (and you find his set there after, instead of him dying after killing Goldmask (that last bit is my opinion, but it’s what the story implies.)

      • Anonymous

Giving it to Corhyn is the better act as it will erase from his mind his recent existential woes with Goldmask's doubting finger!

        • Anonymous

extremely obnoxious how easy it is to get locked out of this, especially if you learned about it from corhyn's quest

          • Anonymous

the fact that using this means choosing the worst ending of both questlines makes this item utterly useless and i hope it disappears on ng+ so i can get rid of it

            • Anonymous

Even though Brother Cornyn verbally rejects it, the game acts like he does take it as he will forget where his master has gone to at the end of his questline

just one of many lazy oversights

Oddly enough, this is a strange but firm proof that familial love was real in the Volcano Manor. Originally given by Rykard to his wife, Tanith, should she find his obsession and blasphemous path to be too much to bear even when most of his loyal knights have left him. She didn't drink a drop, fully accepting and even driven to dedication for his mania. Then passed on to Rya, who was given white lies all her life to spare her of the horrible truth of her origins. That too, was an act of familial love as their traditions may be too much for the mind to bear and a simple concoction to ease that burden for those who cannot stomach terrible acts. But for this loving family, acceptance has prevented even a single drop of it's anesthetic. Provided of course, even when you provided the choice to Rya, she would never forget her love and devotion to her considerate mother.

I got this without giving Rya the egg. Both are in my inventory. I think maybe tanith left it when she left after I killed Rykard. (I never did any assassination quests).

You can get the tonic of forgetfulness early if you get to volcano manor by the Raya Lucaria Virgin Abductor, it will be where Tanith is supposed to be if you get there normally

I cannot get the Tonic from Tanith? I've completed all 3 attempted and all Tanith says now is to warp to Rykard. I did talk to Rya at her location where she asks to to be killed. Guess I am out of luck?

"Brother Corhyn will refuse the potion and the item will remain in the player's inventory. " so... what was the point of this item again..?

after 1.04 its found on Tanith's chair. I had missed it previously and had no other way to get it besides enterting a new game cycle.

The item Tonic of Forgetfulness can now be obtained at the Volcano Manor if the player wasn’t able to obtain it due to quest progression. Patch 1.04

I tried giving it to all the other roundtable hold npcs except corhyn and I couldn’t find a point where any of them would take it, if anyones curious. Rogier’s timeline doesn’t allow him to be an option afaik but I spoke to everyone else at multiple points through their quests and nothing.

Has anyone tried to see if this could be used on the dungeater? I would do it myself, but he's already dead in my game.

Even if Corhyn says he REFUSES it, you will get a different "ending" and final location, as if he did drink it. Please add this info to Corhyn's page, and this one.

If the Tonic of Forgetfulness is not given to Rya, it can later be given to Brother Corhyn near the Stargazer Ruins.

I've done all volcano manor contracts before handing in the serpent amnion to Rya, so when she disappears, Tanith won't give me the option to tell her she disappeared and only offers to teleport me to the boss. Any way to fix this and get the potion?

                                          • Anonymous

Just gave this to Rya, and noticed she said something about how sweet is was, reminded me that Nepheli said almost the same thing when drinking her potion. Wonder if this is the successful version, and Seluvis just did things he wanted forgotten to a lot of people xD

                                            • Just tried to give it to Nepheli Loux seeing as she is distressed after the albinauric village encounter. You seemingly cannot give it to her or Gideon. All she will accept from the player is the Sormhawk King ashes. Still curious as to what other things the tonic could be used for, maybe Blaidd? I haven't had any luck with that either so far, but I'm not at the end of his questline yet either.

                                              • Anonymous

Maybe this could be given to Nepheli when she gets depressed? She's willing to take one "medicine," stands to reason she'd take another. I'd try it myself, but I've already puppeted her.

                                                • Anonymous

So I accidentally gave it to Corhyn (pressed the option without reading it cause I thought there’d be more lore and progress to his story). Anyone know what it might do? Lol, guess I’ll find out.

                                                  • Anonymous

An option to give it to Corhyn after him and Goldmask reach The Mountain of Giants is available if you have it, but I couldn't actually get him to take it. Just gives some more dialogue. This makes me think there may be other NPCs you could give it to, though.
