Tower of Return

A dilapidated tower guarded by foot soldiers and mounted cavalry. Makeshift wooden platforms and ladders line the inside of the tower, allowing it to retain some function as a lookout point and a mount for ballistae.

Tower of Return is a Location in Elden Ring. The Tower of Return is found at the Weeping Peninsula, at the southern tip of the western landmass. This location is easily accessible on foot or horseback as it is out in the open field. This tower contains a Teleporter Chest that transports players to Leyndell, Royal Capital (or the endgame area) upon opening.

Tower of Return Walkthrough

On the way to the tower itself, beware the numerous Godrick Foot Soldiers in the nearby fields. There is a group of 3 surrounding the nearby effigies and one sitting atop the tower, operating a ballista. A Great Dragonfly Head can be found on the ground by one of the effigies. There is also a mounted Godrick Knight patrolling near the tower (which can be farmed for its armor set), accompanied by two Wandering Nobles and three more Godrick Foot Soldiers at the foot of the tower. Engage these enemies one by one or in small groups as they can quickly overwhelm you despite their relative weakness.

There is little to do at the Tower of Return itself. The chest at the top is a Teleporter Chest that transports the player to the Divine Bridge Site of Grace when opened. The only way forward leads to a platform with a Golem resting in the area, a chest containing a Blessed Dew Talisman on the right, and an inactive Waygate on the left that would lead to the Isolated Divine Tower much later in the game. This Golem may be a difficult fight if the player is sent there early in the game; to leave, rest at the Site of Grace and fast-travel should be enabled to get you out of this area.

I love how it's called Tower of Return because lorewise Godfrey ended his march in the Weeping Peninsula, so the fact the portal takes you to Leyndell makes me think he returned to the capital through here.

      • Anonymous

Fun fact you can skip all of altus and liurnia by getting invaded here, and having the invader use the lift up

May takes few tries, i stood furthest away from the grace in hopes of it increasing chances of invader spawning below the lift and not with you.

PSA resting at the Leyndell grace doesn't trigger the Altus scripts.

I used the grace there, and Dung Eater's door is still closed at the Roundtable Hold.

          • I was just about to ask the same thing, does Tower of Return cause the Altus Plateau scripts to activate?
I.e. moving quests forward and unlocking doors at Roundtable.

Resting at the Divine Bridge site of grace might trigger the Radahn festival early - potentially annoying if you want to explore Redmane Castle.

              • Does resting at a site of grace of leydell capital (after being teleported by the chest) disable/break any npc's quests? I just start my first NG+ and only cleared Limgrave so far. I may discover them myself when I keep playing forwards but just wondering if anyone experienced anything as such

I killed him by kiting him to the grace site and pushing him off the ledge. Pushing is a loose term. He stepped off. I would like to tell you I did this on purpose but that would be a lie. It became clear quickly that I was not going to beat him at my current level and skill. I had just run in to grab my ruins and was running out an he followed me. I was near the grace anyway so I thought "I guess I will just fight him again and die hear next to the grace". As I was rolling around trying to avoid the one shot kill, he stepped off the ledge. As I watched him fall I wondered if I was going to get credit for the kill. And then that beautiful glow surrounded my character.

I killed the Giant at lvl12 with +0 Short Sword. 3 jumping heavy attacks stagger him, and you can start doing that while he's getting up, allowing you to chain them together and completely stunlock him. It only gets tricky when he falls in such a position that you cannot riposte or reach his ankles.

                    • "You will not be able to defeat that boss at low levels," It's not a boss it's just a regular mid game enemy. It's not even required to fight it to get the talisman.

I am a noobie because this is my first souls-like game. Got teleported. I accidentally discovered a way to stun-lock (kinda) the giant after only 5 tries. On my 5th try, I only used 1 hp potion and 1 mana potion. Level 10 Samurai. Just hit his ankles with 1 unsheathe and 1 charged strong attack and boom, he goes down. Perform crit hit and then hit his ankles again. It might take 3 strong hits sometimes, so be prepared to dodge 1 or 2 attacks.

so i guess that chest was how Godrick and his army intended to return together to their home, bathed in rays of gold...

Not sure what the trigger is but you're definitely able to trigger the elevator in the capital from where the teleporter chest dumps you, it's what I did on my first playthrough. The door leading to it in the Fortified Manor even has a lever to open it in case you happen to come from that direction. I'd already explored about half the capital when I did this so I'm assuming there's some kind of trigger that lets you activate the elevator, just haven't been able to pinpoint it.

I'm really struggling to determine what the point of teleporting players to that particular part of the capital. I'd beaten Melania and gotten her rune, fast traveled to the grace I'd found from using the teleporter trap previously (how convenient!) only to find that the magic but hole teleporter is deactivated until I manually accessed that area via the elevator near roundtable hold. Like, why the hell does activating the elevator manually suddenly enable the teleporter needed to activate Melania's rune? This game is good, but there's so many finnicky, broken-ass triggers you have to work around that really just kill any drive to explore things blindly.

Keep him in the middle if you can. It's hard to land a critical near the walls. Charged attacks from right underneath and behind. And then don't be that exited afterwards.

I teleported at around lv33ish and beat the boss first try with +5 uchigatana. Charged R2 will stagger him twice for a critical hit, then while he is recovering rinse and repeat he will be stunlocked.

Does being teleported (and then having to rest at the site of grace) screw with any questlines? I once heard that some questlines advance if you rest at grace sites that are in a different area.

You can rest at the site of grace if you open the trapped chest. Anyway, the mounted knight also drops a "Gilded Greatshield" which takes 36 strength to use. Physical attack is 115, no magic attacks, it however negates:
                                      100% physical
                                      60% magic
                                      66% fire
                                      54% lightning
                                      67% holy
                                      and boosts guard by 67.

open the chest, get transported to the capital, move towards the archway and activate the site of grade. move forward and you see a sleeping stone giant ....run past it towards the right...there's a chest there, open it and bag yourself a help regen talisman. Careful of the giant awaking to your presence.
