I can't use it to poison enemies, so how is it toxic? Will it hurl verbal abuse at me if I pick it up?

Early game there is a poison swamp S.E. of Castle Morne, there are maybe a dozen of those poison (zombies?) that seem to drop toxic mushrooms regularly.

One of earliest ways to farm is to take the portal to Gurrang, and take the road to the grace at the bottom of the hill. Spawning from this grace, turn West, and keep going until you reach the edge of cliff there. 2 spawns will be there, and if you're fast enough the one vulgar militiaman nearby won't have time to aggro

Just found a handy farming spot.
Head on over to the Street of sages ruins. They are a very common drop from the mushroom folk.
Kill the 12-13 residing there and then let yourself die, the stake of marika will put you right back in the action.

There is a farming spot at the Cathedral of Dragon Communion. There are two growing under the ruins right outside. The only enemy in the way is a dragonfly.

Plague Church is def. the best area I think. It has 3 spawns: 1 on the right side and 2 in the back. Doing a run takes maybe 15-20 seconds.

I have less of these than Aeonian Butterflies what the ****

Just behind church of plague in the graveyard spawns 1 mushroom.

Another dependable spot is, as an enemy drop from rot worshiping wizards around Sages Street Ruins in Swamp of Aeonia. It's fairly dependable.

Best locations are Gaol Cave/Caelid Waypoint Ruins and Church of Rot. Church of Rot has 3 static spawns alongside Sacramental Buds, and Gaol Cave has 2 spawns with several Mushroom Priests nearby.
Shaded Castle Ramparts SoG is the best farming spot I currently know of. Also allows you to farm two of the Depraved Perfumers for their set. Kill the 4 zombies for the shrooms. Has a decent droprate.

2 can be found south east from the Heart of Aeonia grace site, jump over the brach and they are at the bottom, they have a chance to give x2 on pick up and respawn

Caelid Highway South. One can be farmed to the west under the tree. Slow but respawns. If I find any better spot I’ll update
