Devs got really lazy with this weapon. It looks nice and deserves more fitting magic-themed ash of war

This isn’t a random drop, the troll knight in caria manor has a guaranteed drop first kill

...Why doesn't this come with Carian Greatsword as the larger counterpart to the Carian Knight Sword?

I've found the build solution for this weapon.
A ~RL130 build (60vig, 20mind, 30end, 36str, 36dex, 18int) gives you 796 AR. Minimizing INT minimizes the magic damage making the physical shine through split damage.
A ~RL150 build just pumps the str and dex to 46, making the swords paper damage go to 848 AR.
These builds were made on the Hero starting class using starscourge & stargazer heirlooms, milicents prosthesis (dex heirloom if unavailable) to keep rune level down while having 60 vig, you can probably use the points in endurance and mind if you want, and the last slot is your choice, I chose Alexander's for more WA damage.
A wretch is most likely more efficient, but my character at the time was the hero class.

Absolutely hate that this is the best looking colossal sword (imo) and you can't swap AoWs. In the end I'm still going to use it, but everytime the AoW fails me I'm gonna be mad.

The only build and playthrough i do want to use it, it doesnt drop. Why are these great games tainted by ****ing rng man

B D C scaling in strength, dex, and int respectively. Great blade phalanx for the AoW. And Just like that this weapon would hit as good as it looks.

I was struggling to take on the 3 crystal knight boss from the crystal dungeon, until I equipped this sword and used the weapon arc, it became a very easy boss fight, if you are struggling with these guys and have the stats for the sword, give it a bash
It is also entertaining to just yell at enemies, it's not the best weapon, but it certainly has a charm about it
- Anonymous
the fact that this doesnt scale to INT over STR or DEX makes this inferior to every other colossal sword. considering guts sword is on a free carriage and does highest damage and zwei you can buy and is the lightest puts this sword i poo poo tier
- Anonymous
It looks so beautiful for a Colossal Sword the only issue is the skill it has doesn't really match up to it. Greatblade Phalanx wouldve been fitting for this since this sword is Carian in design, great enemy example using this is Bols Carian Knight.

Despite what others are saying, this weapon hits like a truck considering how early you get it. For reference I’m only level 57 @ raya lucaria & I’ll probably phase it out later on in my play through, but it’s a nice placeholder and fun to use

I had this drop from the headless troll at the Four Belfries.

Gonna use this or frost Zwei before I acquire Blaidd's sword. Probably a good stepping stone weapon that's means to be tossed aside late game.

Are you sure about the 8% drop chance? Cause I fought this dude 3 times with 3 different characters, and each time I got this sword. The last time I already had one in my inventory though, so someone else drops it, maybe the one in front of Converted Fringe Tower?
- Anonymous
this is one of the most gorgeous colossal swords I have ever seen, sure it may not be the best colossal sword (the int requirement could be a little lower), but the damage is still usable. I've been using it since I got it.
- Anonymous
If only this had a skill like Carian Greatsword/Grandeur, Troll's Roar just doesn't fit the magic style every other glintstone-infused weapon has. It's such a cool-looking weapon, but it sucks that its weapon skill doesn't match the rest of the weapons like it
- Anonymous
While it may seem a little against logic to do so, I started running this as a heavy-stagger option on a dex-int build. It performs about as well as it does on str-int, but since dex-int largely lacks similar options the weapon keeps ending up in my hands against slower/sturdier opponents.
- Anonymous
It also drops from the Ghost Troll Knigt and has a special dual wielding attack: if you wield 2 at once, the second attack changes into an attack with both blades
- Anonymous
Do any other GS or Colossal swords have the same move set as this with the beautiful R2 poke?
- Anonymous
Got it first try on ghost troll north of liurnia highway north
- Anonymous
Under rated in my opinion. You can get it early and it costs somber stones to upgrade which means its not a big commitment. I'm mostly int with some strength and I'm switching between MLGS, Royal GS, and this. The poke is always nice, charged R2 poke paired with the weapon art lets you bully some bosses with the stagger. Maybe not super OP but for the first 3/4 of the game so far it is pretty solid.
The Troll Knight in front of Converted Fringe Tower in Northeast Liurnia can also drop this sword. The one the map originally said dropped the second Giant Hunt Ash of War besides the Night's Cavalry over between the North Academy Gate Grace and Bellum Church Grace.
It was removed a couple days ago and now there's no icons for any drops from the Troll Knight in front of Converted Fringe Tower anymore, but I definitely got the Troll Knight Sword from it, so I guess all Troll Knights have a chance of dropping it since others have gotten the sword from the spectral/magic/summoned one between the Liurnia Highway North and Gate Town Bridge Grace Sites, at the camp where you can find the Lucerne and the soldiers fighting spectral summons in the highway road going underneath the lookout tower's cliff

I got it from the Troll Knight at the converted fringe tower. Too bad it was on the wrong character
- Anonymous
God one of these from the Ghost-Trolls at 4 Belfries, in case you want to powerstance them and have the largest testicles in the entirety of Elden Ring.

I’m doing a str-int build and just got this thing, is it worth leveling or no?
- Anonymous
Magic damage and 18 intelligence requirement, but only D intelligence at +10 !?!
- Anonymous
less ar than magic zweihänder, dunno what they were thinkin but this is not for int builds...?
- Anonymous
This weapon looks so cool, too bad it's so stupid and is permanently stuck with Troll's Roar. Honestly not sure what reason anyone would choose this over the regular Golden Troll GS aside from the looks.
I had expected the weapon art for it would be Greatblade Phalanx, y'know, something that would actually warrant the INT investment.
- Anonymous
i like the lore implications of the description because it says that the trolls are treated like true knights and fight side by side with humans and i think thats very wholesome that they accept them so fully. kinda makes me feel a bit worse about murking them. only a bit tho.
- Anonymous
Spectral Trolls around the 4 Belltowers, south of Caria Manor, can also drop this weapon.
- Anonymous
Can also be get from the phantom troll on the road south of "gate town bridge" where some skimirish is happening.
- Anonymous
Sometimes the enemy just looks at this and their posture breaks.
- Anonymous
As far as I'm concerned this thing having the trolls roar ash of war permanently coupled with a still D rated intelligence scaling at +10 makes it completely useless for actual intelligence builds
- Anonymous
MFW this troll that can only yell incoherently is smarter than most faith builds.

Not found on the ground it is a random drop from the troll that spawns and requires farming to obtain.
- Anonymous
Don't know if it's unique in this weapon category, but it has the DS1 Greatsword / DS3 Astora Greatsword / Transformed Ludwig's attack pattern of R2 stabs in one hand or two, rather than vertical slams or horizontal sweeps.
If it could be infused it would be good for a strength int build. Not very worth it...
- Anonymous
Really wish this could be infused with other ashes, would've loved to put Glintsword Phalanx or something else on it.
- Anonymous
weapon art does bad damage but seems to do very high stagger damage. Unupgraded could stagger one of caelid's t-rex dogs in two weapon art hits.
- Anonymous
What do you think is better for a spellsword build, this or the royal greatsword?
- Anonymous
I instantly got one from the gold ones without the heads near the four bellfrys.

I got one of these from a blue troll in a evergaol boss arena in liurnia its the one a bit south from caria manor

I just got a drop from the troll near converted fringe tower

Whoever wrote this is a complete moron. The sword isnt along the road at all. Its a drop from the giant blue troll, MORON.

I was a lucky son of a gun and I got this 1st kill and i wasn't even looking for it, just now that i looked it up to check the scaling i realized its not a guaranteed drop or something i found on a treasure
- Anonymous
dont waste your time farming blue ghost troll, its pretty much a guaranteed drop from the physical troll guarding the stairs in the manor itself. ive cooped through the area a handful of times and every time the host opts to fight the troll ive gotten another. i have like 7 of these things. cant speak to its performance as i havent lv'd INT yet.
- Anonymous
There seems to be a more optimal source of this weapon, which is a sword wielding troll inside a castle that is due north west of the magic academy. My friend and I both got it after killing it once so it may be a guaranteed drop
- Anonymous
in between the "gate town bridge" and "liurnia highway north" graces there is a blue ghost troll armed w/ sword who will get summoned to fight some soldiers. he drops the sword
- Anonymous
need to farm blue ghost troll , I got it after about 15 troll
- Anonymous
Killed him about 30 times before i got it - also if u get the site of grace behind him (by the broken bridge) u can go straight to him

Ok this page requires correction the page list the swords location as "Liurnia Highway North just north of the site of grace, along the road." it is not along the road. The correct location would be as follows "North of Liurnia Highway North you will find a group of soldiers engaged in battle with phantom puppets as you approach a phantom troll knight will appear felling the phantom knight will result in him dropping the sword as an item"
- Anonymous
It drops from a Blue Giant on the road directly north of "Liurnia Highway North" Site of grave.
- Anonymous
I checked that road up and down and even killed the troll knight, still can't find it.

This sword just makes me so sad, like it’s one of the best looking colossal swords but the damage is just so blatantly low that it isn’t really worth using. It gets heavily outdamaged by the royal greatsword on a str-int build and a magic zweihander on a pure int build, and the only build where it even stands a chance is quality-int but you won’t get good damage returns until like sl200+. The AoW being locked to trolls roar is also terribly unfortunate, as something like carian grandeur or greatblade phalanx would fit much better.
