Medium Shields feature a good balance between defense and weight, which is great for most situations in combat. Although it may not be as light as a Small Shield which is good for agility and parrying, the Standard Shield works best at reducing damage and blocking.

      I was skeptical of the benefit of the bonus this has at first, because what would that tiny boost matter when you're practically dead anyway? Well, since I got this I just keep having those moments when you survive with about 1-10 hp with a completely empty health bar at top, one after other.

          Throw on Barricade Shield and let this sneak up on invaders, since it seems nobody uses this thing and therefore isn't aware of the clutch boost.

                    The twinbird is just an envoy of the Greater Will, obviously. It uses the colours of the Elden Ring and the Rune of Death. And the Deathbirds themselves are literally called Servants of Death, and use the Cursemark of Death in the logo of their spells.

                      After comparing the two, it seems that the golden pattern around the edge of the shield is the same as that of the golden patterns that can be found on Knight set (the one you buy from the Twin Maiden Husks in the Roundtable Hold)

                              It's a free buff which is great but temper your expectations. The situations where you're under 20%, taking an additional attack, and a 10% negation of additional attacks is going to be the difference at that point between life and death is going to be a pretty rare situation. Basically the attacks need to fall into a very slim window. It'll happen given enough encounters, but dont let this give you a false sense of security

                                  In a game with what I find to be lackluster shield fashion, which I admit is somewhat hypocritical given that I almost exclusively used the Heater Shield in DS1 because its easily the best shield in the game (for its weight its INCDEDIBLE) and using the item discovery boosting Shield in DS2, this is a shining example of a good shield design. One that I'd argue rivals the truly iconic Dragoncrest Shield in terms of visual design. It's got the right amount of flashy with a good pattern on it. Something that more shields in this game could have used. Plus 62 stability and a Tearstone effect boost aren't anything to scoff at either.

                                      Having 1 of these in each hand doesnโ€™t stack. Seems like a theme of the shield passives since the turtle shell and icon shield passives donโ€™t stack with themselves either.

                                        I'm not 100%sure
                                        but, based soley only a couple of duals when i was able to get under 20% without dieing, it seems like this and/or the blue branch talisman are not nerfed for pvp like other defensive runes are. once i got under 20รท hp the person who was dealing about 1/5th to /6th of my hp per hit needed to hit me 3 more times to kill me. if i didn't have these o i think i would have died in 1, maybe 2, hits. This may warrent some testing.

                                          This is lowkey the best shield in the game, especially for honorable PVP 1v1s with no healing, the buffs at low HP have saved my ass several times

                                            I've been using this shield recently with a full tearstone build and I think they might've changed the defence boost to 10%.

                                              Pretty good for a medium shield. Str builds have many options but this is worth getting for everyone else. Low str requirement, 100% physical reduction, high guard boost, and a light tearstone effect.

                                                    At night, go East of the [Hermit Merchant's Shack]. You will find a grave that has an item and when you approach, a boss named [Deathbird] will spawn. You receive the shield after defeating the boss.

                                                      Drops from deathbird east from the hermit merchants shack in the outer lleydell area. It shows up at night. There are a lot of skulls and skeletons in the area you have to fight in.

                                                      The shield appears to kick in at about 25% health and provides a very modest increase in attack and absorbencies. I gained about 30 AR (from 564) and the damage negation was about 5% for physical and 8% for elemental. It probably scales down the higher your base negation is, so more benefit if your negation is low.

                                                            I don't know how to edit, but it is found at Lleyndell, going up the hill from Hermit Merchant's Shack grace. (Has to be during night time) Deathbird fight is triggered as you approach the item at the very end of the path.
