Urumi is a Whip in Elden Ring. The Urumi scales primarily with Dex and is a good back-up Weapon for quality-build or dex-focused players using striking weapons, as it has both slash and thrust damage types. 

 

This weapon made of extremely thin, flexible blades of metal is wielded like a whip by Nightfolk warriors.

Though in essence a whip with a cutting edge, it can also be used as a spear to pierce foes.

 

Where to Find Urumi in Elden Ring

The Urumi weapon can be found at the following location:

  • Caria Manor, From the Manor Upper Level Grace, take the elevator down, and head straight while looking left. You should see a rampart below with a wooden ledge and a corpse hanging from it.   • The charged strong attack is a slash and then thrust attack, which can catch invading players off-guard with the slight delay before an unusual move for a whip.

      This weapon is so underrated. Cool looking weapon, cool name, sick R2 attack, great for a whip and one of the few weapons that can get an S for dex scaling.

          Can any of yall explain how this thing has a B-scaling with a Magic Affinity, but there are no Magic Affinities that can be appended to it? The only one seems to be Hoarfrost Stomp, which only gets it to a C-scaling because it's a Frost affinity rather than pure Magic. What am I missing here?

            Help guys, I'm trying to make the Urumi into keen affinity to get S for dex scaling, but the option literally isn't there in the list, when I apply royal knights resolve Ash of war, there's so many affinity options but Keen doesn't appear, the most I can get is B for dex without it, can anyone help

              The claw talisman + 2 of these + Blue Dancer charm + the Lightest armor available... You'll be a surprisingly effective DPS in the colluseum. Yeah, you'll be squishy, but you'll get kills

                Try it with Royal Knight's resolve, the charged R2 talisman and the spear talisman, it hits like a truck and the R2 is fast to charge as well.

                  The 2nd hit of the charged R2 does benefit from the spear talisman. Tested on my character, 1096 without and 1260 with.

                    The way u can manually aim the charged R2 is insane. U can control the direction of each hit. You can basically rollcatch players with the 2nd hit if they dont roll twice.

                        Only whip which feels nice to use. Surpasses in crowd control/fast as hek enemies. Passable on slash resisting enemies. I generally dislike whips, but this is an solid exception

                          I wish the charged R2 actually hit where it's supposed to when locked-on. For me, it hits to the right of any enemy that isn't chonky or right in front of me...

                              A good example of a real-life weapon that requires so much skill to use that almost no one would actually want to.
                              On top of being physically exhausting to use for any length of time, its lack of significant mass significantly hampers its ability to inflict severe damage.
                              It would best be used against multiple unarmoured opponents, where its reach and moveset can be used to full effect.
                              Ultimately though, this weapon is more effective at inflicting pain and intimidation than it is at actually killing an enemy.
                              It would probably best serve as a situational sidearm, to deter potential aggressors.

                              TLDR: IRL, learning to use an urumi is probably not worth the effort. Do so only for your own enjoyment and bragging rights.

                                Personally, I prefer Urumi to Hoslow's Whip due to its high physical damage and nice heavy attack. The only disadvantage of this weapon is that it has no built-in bleeding, but that's fine for me.

                                    Powerstancing these is the world's funniest build on 80 Dexterity (607 at each)

                                    Suggested weapon arts:

                                    Main hand: Lightning Bolt / Flame of the Redmanes / hoarfrost (all keen infused)

                                    Offhand: Golden Vow / Endure

                                    Literally can't recommend these enough. Charged Heavy is simply hilarious. 1h crouch attack is really quick too, possibly same frames as ugs poke, however this is untested so take it with a grain of salt

                                      This weapon belongs to the Kerala region in India. It is incredibly hard to use and there are people who still practice it for martial arts.

                                        In the Berserk series, Silat, the leader of the Bakiraka clan of Kushan assassin's uses a similar weapon referred to as 'Urumi' by Rakshas during a duel they have in chapter 340 of the manga.

                                          It's charged R2 kind whiffs to the right when used on a locked target. I don't know if it's a bug or a feature, but makes it hard to hit enemies sometimes. Hope it gets patched.

                                            Heavy Urumi with Horarah Loux's Earthshaker and a stupid amount of strength will change your world. Combine with the poise physick and shard of Alexander to one shot most people with almost no interrupt (other than backstab). Whip people to force them to try and get close, then throw out the weapon art, and follow up with the heavy attack to roll catch anyone who manages to survive. Messes gankers up

                                                Infusing this with Cold using Hoarfrost Stomp AoW was a game changer for me, and I’m saying this despite never having used hoarfrost pre nerf. With 2 cold whips powerstanced, you have a lot of staggering stunlock power to use on tough mobs. Just open with the stomp then spam the L1 attack sequence. Hoarfrost’s 2 attacks (initial wave then ice exploding) usually do enough poise damage to stagger twice. The L1 spam will almost certainly trigger a third stagger as frostbite price by the second hit. Tough mobs don’t even manage to get a swing in before croaking

                                                    If at some point some absolute man makes a mod, taking regular r1 and the model from a swordcane and slapping this r2 on it, that chad will be blessed

                                                    • The good thing about this is you can get it pretty early on in the game. Hoslows is pretty much an endgame weapon. Personally I don't really care for all that min-maxing in the game, since it's not all about damage. Fashion and accessability is more important to me. I don't really care for weapons you can only play a couple of hours in a playthrough, since I don't care for ng+ all that much.

                                                        This alongside an ironjar aromatic is pretty capable of countering RoB spammers. Add on that one talisman that increases robustness and you'll be able to effectively counter them. If you are using an int build, you can also use the Law of Regression incantation to cancel out the aromatic's effect.

                                                          Ash of War options are limited for this weapon, but you still have access to some very powerful ones.

                                                          Royal Knight's Resolve is an excellent option in PVE. Smart PVPers will run away from you for 8 seconds so that the buff wears off. Not all PVPers are smart, however.

                                                          Beast Roar does a surprising amount of damage on this weapon while it is keen infused. To maximize the damage, you can wear the Roar Talisman and the Highland Axe on your hip. Drop the axe if you prefer to dual wield these.

                                                          Bloodhound Step is especially useful for creating distance in invasions. Some people think Bloodhound Step is cheesy. Do with that what you will.

                                                          Ground Slam with Keen affinity is pure memes, but it is hilarious and surprisingly effective.

                                                            I can't put poisonous mist or flaming strike on it, is this bugged?

                                                            • If comparing whips, Urumi is better than Howlow's Petal Whip in most aspects and scenarios, except Quality builds, Cold builds and Occult builds.

                                                              Urumi has:
                                                              - S DEX scaling when Keen-infused, beating Hoslow's Petal Whip scaling of B
                                                              - A STR scaling when Heavy-infused, beating Hoslow's Petal Whip scaling of B
                                                              - B DEX scaling when Blood-infused, beating Hoslow's Petal Whip scaling of C, while still providing the same Bleed buildup of 110 (Tested at +24, 50 ARC)
                                                              - Follow-up attack on charged R2s with insane reach, capable of roll-catching in PvP (and looks sick imo)

                                                              Howlow's Petal Whip has:
                                                              - Better base damage than Urumi, potentially providing marginally more damage when unupgraded (such as during low-level PvP)
                                                              - Innate Bleed buildup, meaning no ARC is needed for it to cause bleed, and it can be Cold-infused to cause dual-debuffs (Frost & Bleed) at the same time
                                                              - Increased bleed buildup when Occult-infused, making it better for pure ARC builds, since Urumi will only get the damage increase due to lacking innate Bleed while Hoslow's will get both
                                                              - B/B STR and DEX scaling when Quality-infused, which is the same as Urumi, except it still has innate Bleed
                                                              - Can be obtained twice in one playthrough for powerstancing purposes, while Urumi will need to wait for NG+ (only relevant offline, as weapons can be traded online)
                                                              - Arguably looks better, but that's subjective

                                                              TL;DR:
                                                              - Urumi is better for pure DEX Keen builds, pure STR Heavy builds, DEX/ARC Blood builds, and has a better 2-hit charged R2 (especially good for PvP)
                                                              - Hoslow's Petal Whip is better for pure ARC Occult builds, DEX/INT Frost builds, STR/DEX Quality builds, and marginally better for very low-level PvP

                                                                  Effortlessly wrecks flying enemies. The light attack goes pretty far upward, high enough that it will hit basically anything that hovers above you

                                                                    It's a bit of an outlier among the other whips. Every other whip in this game does strike damage, but this one does slashing, which is a bit more commonly resisted. It has middling base damage, but its scaling in dexterity is superior to every other whip. It has a unique heavy attack, and a good one at that. Sadly though, it doesn't do bleed build up. However, you could simply enchant it with blood with black whetstone blade. All in all, it's a mixed bag. I think it's a particularly cool looking weapon, and I'm at least going to try to make it work.

                                                                        If you are crappy, get hit a lot and are generally inconsistent against the tougher enemies, this weapon is for you. The charged R2 lock on is great, especially vs omen killers and those pimply ogre guys with the bent axes. After a while you get a really good sense of the range. Almost like having a bow with endless ammo. Well worth the stones.

                                                                          You can actually adjust the aim of the second hit of the charged heavy attack by about 90 degrees to either the left or right from the initial direction of the first swing. Just tilt the left stick in the direction you want the stab to go in after the first swing comes out. Works for both the first and combo version of the charged heavy. And obviously don't be locked on to anything.
