Vyke's Dragonbolt is an Incantation in Elden Ring. Vyke's Dragonbolt reinforces the right hand weapon and body with red lightning.
Incantation of Vyke, knight of the Roundtable Hold.
Summons red lightning to bolster both the caster's body and their armament held in the right hand. Enchants armaments with lightning-affinity attacks and increases maximum equipment load. However, lightning damage negation will be reduced.
Of all the knights, Vyke the Dragonspear was the one Lansseax loved the most.

- Stamina Cost: 20
- Buffs weapon with Lightning attack power
- Lightning: 0.75 * Incant Scaling (Faith portion)
- This is the same damage bonus as Electrify Armament
- Grants 15% increased Equip Load
- Reduces Lightning Damage negation by 35%
- Duration: 70 seconds
- This is one-part Weapon Buff, one-part Body Buff. Each buff will not stack with other buffs of the same type.
- See Buffs and Debuffs for more information on stacking buffs.

It's actually pretty useful tbh. Give's me lighting on my Great Mace and gives me light rolls, win win. Just like every other spell it's specific and situational, so the answer is still "it depends"
- Anonymous
Free iframes if you're at the right equip load breakpoint. I like it. It makes me feel snazzy
- Anonymous
If you want to get rid of the lightning vulnerability you can overwrite the body buff part of the spell with another body buff, while keeping the red lightning on the weapon.
Things like boiled crab, exalted flesh, all the elemental dried livers, incantations like (fire, magic, holy, etc) fortification, black flame's protection, even dragonbolt blessing (yellow version of this spell that only affects body) will do it.
- Anonymous
Despite it not doing more damage even though it probably should, the biggest insult is that it last 20 seconds less than electrify armament.
- Anonymous
The most wacky buff to ever exist. Gives you same damage as electrify armament, takes away your already paper thin lightning resist, and forces you to make the wackiest endurance investment ever to be effective. But has much more style points than electrify armament.
Truly an incantation of all times
- Anonymous
lansseax was feeling spiteful teaching vyke this spell and nothing else useful huh
- Anonymous
Red lightning is cooler than yellow lightning
Therefore this is superior to electrify armament

Why would i ever want 15% more equip load… for like one minute??
Literally does nothing unless I’m just barely fat rolling all the time…
or for some reason I’m just barely mid rolling all the time, making no use of all the extra weight I have until fat roll, and then this will let me fast roll for a minute.
What? Whose idea was this??
- Anonymous
funny how vyke can use this with his spear but you literally cant
- Anonymous
funny how vyke can use this with his spear but you literally cant
- Anonymous
It apparent from early times that Vyke was destined for madness.
"What if we took Electrify Armament, and adjusted it to help us carry more and take more damage?"
- Anonymous
"I love having to choose between Medium Load and good defense" - Vyke, PRIOR to going insane
- Anonymous
Basically Electrify Armament with weaker Dragonbolt Blessing but looks cooler.
- Anonymous
This is just a worse lightning armament with the weird body "buff"
- Anonymous
Now we know why Vyke went mad... Trying to make a build around this crappy incantation
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
If you're an MGR:R nerd this with an Uchigatana and the Bloodhound's Step AoW allows for a pretty decent Jetstream Sam cosplay, better than RoB imo
- Anonymous
So is the idea behind raising equip load supposed to be the spell making you "faster"? Anything besides actually giving a move speed buff, huh Miyazaki?
- Anonymous
Pushy boys use the gravel stone seal and it will boost this further!!
- Anonymous
the buff should at least give tier 2 hardness like dragonbolt blessing, a bit higher lightning damage, and 30% less equip load at the cost of using as much FP as Golden Vow (47 FP per usage) and maybe lower lightning damage negation (maybe 55% less)
- Anonymous
Just eat a piece of crab after using it.
Now you have a sick red lightning effect on your weapon, and the lame body buff/lightning vulnerability is gone.
- Anonymous
Fun fact this lets you light roll in bull goat if you’ve done everything else possible to lower equip load first. I don’t know why you’d ever choose to do this over grabbing the physic half, but fextras equipment load page is wrong.
The weapon buff and body buff both stack with Seppuku on Keen affinity weapons HOLY GOD I MAY HAVE JUST INVENTED A NEW ONE SHOT META
- Anonymous
Highest synergistic use I've ever gotten out of this was with the following set-up:
Bloodhound's Step AoW (With the decreased lightning negation you're going to benefit from having an evasion/distance control focus)
44% Equip Load (To maximize distance/i-frames of BHS when this spell is activated. Also for reference I set my Endurance to 22)
Godslayer Seal (Highest incant scaling at 60 Faith for max buff damage, especially since the Gravel Stone Seal effect does NOT boost this spell)
Erdtree's Favor +2 (Extra equip load, plus more stamina and a bit more health is always nice)
Light/Medium armor (I use Ronin's set to keep my weight low and of course for style)
Light-weight Weapon (I use an Uchigatana but you can use whatever so long as you don't struggle to keep your weight low)
Lightning Scorpion Charm (This one is optional as the damage increase is minimal and comes with a negation penalty, especially in PvP)
I'll admit this spell is unfortunately mediocre by itself - you have to specifically build around it to get any meaningful use out of its unique effects, otherwise it's
basically just a cooler looking but ultimately worse version of Electrify Armament.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Give it the T2 hardness that dragon bolt has, and it will actually be useful. Shame, cause it's the best looking buff there is
- Anonymous
This should just increase END itself, not Equip Load only. At least then there'd be a decent reason to use it over Electrify Armament. As it stands, Electrify Armament + Dragonbolt Blessing is just so much better together.
- Anonymous
The body buff portion of this needs to be an upgraded version of dragonbolt blessing, and maybe last 90 secs. As it is right now, it's just too niche and pointless.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
You: “according to my calculations, you need to have this set up in order to light roll with the body buff active. Therefore, it’s a bad buff and overshadowed by other body buffs and electrify armament. If you want to make an effective build I suggest-“
Me: “I can pretend I have a phase 2 like the Draconic tree sentinel”
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
This feels like it should do more damage to Dragon enemies. Otherwise electrify armament is just plain better in all but color
- Anonymous
The red lightning effect looks epic on my Great Stars + Crucible Axe/Tree set
- Anonymous
does this work on elemental infused weapons? For example, if I have a cold infused swords and use vyke's, will the sword be buffed? If so, does it also work on somber weapons?
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Literally only using this for the Lansseax build. That said, the carry weight is nice. Hoping I can get the equip load setup right to switch into Light Rolling.
- Anonymous
This makes me wish we'd gotten a gravity-based body-buff that raised equip load by a ton like Radahn, coulda had glowing purple ankles and everything
- Anonymous
The maximum weight limit for light rolling with all 3 equip load boosters (bar the winged crystal) is
Bullgoat + blood hound claws
or just a little more than 69 ((hehe)actually 70) weight.
- Anonymous
I wonder if this buff has any hidden bonuses like radahn's greatswords do.
Like, starcaller cry will buff your defenses up until the sword slam by 45% BUT only while in combat, so it was really lucky that anybody even noticed.
Seeing as this truly is just 'electrify armament' BUT RED
I'm going to keep dreaming for a little while longer. Maybe the color buff will make me play better. lmao.

- Anonymous
Just in case anyone wasn’t aware, since it’s 2 separate buffs in 1, you can replace the 15% equip load/ lightning damage negation with a different body buff and still keep the weapon buff.
I cast golden vow, then this and then black flames protection and BFP replaces the lightning negation debuff while keeping the 35% lightning dmg weapon buff.
It isn’t much of a save because it still costs more fp, stats, and loses 20 seconds compared to electrify armament, but it’s something lol
- Anonymous
I wish this was an ash of war. It’s completely pointless as is
Pros: grants the same dmg value that electrify armament gives you (but red this time) and a bonus 15% equip load.
Cons: it costs 35 fp (electrify armament costs 27 fp) and you take 35% more lightening dmg.
Suggested Fix: I think the easiest and best way to fix and balance it out would be to increase the fp cost from 35->40, replace the equip load with 15% to all outgoing lightening dmg while the buff is active, and lower the incoming lightening dmg from 35%->20%.
I believe this would make it more viable without making it too powerful.
Before anyone says anything yes I understand fextralife isn't fromsoft.
- Anonymous
I don't get it how people are focused on the body buff part of this spell and never notice the POWERFUL RED LIGHTNING, jokes aside it's a really cool looking buff for dex/faith dragon cult builds
Only worth it for the style points
- Anonymous
Fire prelate armour with Lionels hat for swagger. Thorned whip. Inverted hawk sheild. That's a lot of red. 30 end 100+ poise. Medium rolling. IredUded. Best thing is the inverted hawk sheild has crappy 30% lightning damage negation. bzzzzt. You died.
- Anonymous
100% convinced this is designed to give fat-rollers a medium-roll and NOT give medium-rollers a fast-roll.
Fast rolls are only marginally better than medium rolls and the setup requires extra points in END with light armor/weapons and talismans to pull off, while the difference is night and day w/ fat and medium rolls and the setup only requires you be overweight.. lol
- Anonymous
If you’re using this seriously you’re either low in END and fat-rolling without it active - OR - you’re likely dumping more points that you should into END and/or wasting one or more talisman slots to get the fast-roll (and likely wearing armor w/ low negation for weight reasons.)
Think this is the only spell in the entire game that requires you handicap yourself to make it useful, e.g. low stamina and a fat-roll or low absorption, wasting a talisman slot and having to spend excess points on stamina that could’ve been put towards health or damage.
- Anonymous
Zero justifiable reason to use this over Electrify Armament + literally any other body buff. Higher stat requirement, costs more to use, same attack buff, you get it way later in the game and the equip load buff is just weird to try and make useful as it’s super unclear what From was going for regarding.
If this took up just one of either the weapon buff or body buff slots then maybe it’d be ok, as it sits considering the double opportunity cost and just not being a good spell it’s F tier.
- Anonymous
Unless you're building around it for light rolls, dont bother
- Anonymous
Unless you're building around it for light rolls, dont bother

Pretty funny when he keeps casting this and you're a lightning faith user.
- Anonymous
It needs to be reworked or the equip load buff needs a buff. Like instead of 15 percent it needs to be raised to at least 20. I don’t understand how Fromsoft can put a tear in the game where you can light roll with almost any weight, but gave this incant such a mediocre equip load buff it’s ridiculously niche and almost completely pointless to use other than for an aesthetic.
Like the tear requires you to sacrifice a physick slot. And for Vyke, if you’re trying to buff up from a medium roll to a light with medium weighted armor using weapons that are weighted like straight swords to greatswords.
(This isn’t gonna be precise but I’ve done the math with different armor and weapons and have a good idea of what is required, this is basically an estimate of what you need)
If you’re weight is 25-35, you have to sacrifice a talisman slot(for great jar or Erdtree’s favor) and have 22-35 endurance.
- Anonymous
Only thing this incant has going for it is that it looks damn cool, but that’s about it. If you’re ok with having to rely on this without fat-rolling then I guess it does save you some points in endurance and/or a talisman slot but I mean is it really worth the burden?
- Anonymous
Instead of an equip load buff, it would be better if it reflected some damage taken back to the enemy. You get damaged and possibly staggered, but the other gets a shock in response.
As for the weapon buff... a little disappointing for the point at wich this can be obtained. If you ain't driven into fashion, you ain't using this spell at all.
- Anonymous
This does not act the same as dragonbolt blessing in regards to the body enhancement(weapon enhancement is correct):
Dragonbolt Blessing-
+30 to status resistences
Tier 2 hardness
-35% to lightning resist
Vyke's Dragonbolt-
+15% to max weight
-35% to lightning resist
If you're looking for pure body enhancement than go with dragonbolt. If you're wanting increased carry weight + electrify armament in one package then go with Vyke.
One thing I am unsure of though is if the red lightning of vyke's dragonbolt does extra damage to ancient dragons/dragons in general. That could be a point in its favor.
Otherwise dragon bolt blessing is the way to go.
- Anonymous
- buff lightning weapon part's incant scaling
- buff equip load increase
- add the effect of regular dragonbolt blessing
The possibilities of buffing this spell are limitless.
- Anonymous
useless...
at least it looks cool
why does from have to cripple faith builds
- Anonymous
Actually nice to use with a Heavy infused Giant-Crusher in NG+/endgame. With 80 faith on the Erdtree Seal it's +265 Lightning Damage on an S scaling strength weapon and the damn thing is 26.5 units of weight so the 15% equip load buff is actually useful here. I'm outside reasonable build territory (level 244), but 60 strength and 80 faith is quite achieveable in NG+ and my attack power is at 1160 while two-handing it. With the Earthshaker Ash of War you're doing colossal damage and stance damage and looking like a malignant thunder god while doing so. If you like Maliketh's Black Blade but the Holy Damage isn't working for you - this isn't optimal either but you'll probably enjoy it.

Stats in the usual suspects, health, stamina, FP, dex, and faith.
Aim for your stamina level to be at 15% away from light equip load.
Now before anyone critises this for being unnessacary, remember that frost builds will literally throw in random fire effects just to make it a worse bleed build.

Worth it if it gave you level 2 hardness like dragon bolt blessing or better dmg than electrify armament. The gimmick could have also been ok if casting it was also a red honed bolt attack that allowed you to buff and attack in one move... so much wasted potential.

Everybody in the comments here completely missing the point of this spell. It looks cool!

Actually insulting game design:
Harder to get, requires more stats, costs more fp and stamina and gives the same damage bonus as electrify armament and has a downside. The only thing that stops this from being strictly worse than ElecArm is the equip load buff. The only way to benefit AT ALL form that is to minmanx your equipment so that this buff puts you under 30% or 60% eqp load...
And then your build will either fat roll without the buff or you'll midroll but without defenses. Pretty much the most inconvenient non-permanent stat boost in the game.
They could have just given it more damage than ElecArm or at least make the entire spell a body buff that boosts lightning damage so that it stacks with weapon buffs. They could have made this turn midrolls into light rolls while decreasing defenses. That way I don't have to choose between fast rolls and good looking armor.
- Anonymous
This spell has one use and one use only, and that is to tip your build out of "heavy" or "medium" loads and down into medium/light. It goes a long way when used alongside Great-Jar's Arsenal and/or Erdtree's Favor +2. For example, you can make a build with around 55 endurance, 60+ poise, a soft-capped damage stat, 15 weight available for weapon slot(s), AND still light roll. That is strong.
- Anonymous
Wait, this doesn't even make one handed weapons bounce off like "Dragonbolt Blessing"??? What even is the point of this. It costs more FP for buffing your weapon (same scaling as "Electrify Armament") and making you weaker to lightning damage. The least they could have done was adding in the good part of "Dragonbolt Blessing".
- Anonymous
for a little more FP, and for 20 seconds less, you get a cooler looking effect on your weapon, just use any body buff, like Flame Grant Me Strength AFTER casting Vykes and enjoy.
at 35 endurance, if you wanna go from med to light rolls with this spell, you get a big fat FIVE points of weight to work with before going over 30%, have fun.
- Anonymous
as much as it sucks that the equip load buff is so low, it still feels cool for a calculated gimmick build to have a mega power-up spell (unless fighting against lightning damage)
- Anonymous
to comment on the 18th literally just use it in game, your lightning defense stat plummets after using it.
- Anonymous
Isn’t everyone getting this all wrong? It’s a BODY BUFF as stated in the details. You won’t be hurt by lightning 35% more, but you’ll negate lightning 35% better . As I’m reading some of the comments, I think people have it backwards
- Anonymous
I don't think this warrants a memory slot. The dragonbolt blessing found in stormcaller church was moderately useful for a little while but that made one handed light attacks bounce and prevented combos this doesn't do that, it buffs the weapon and equip load, by the time you get this both of those are of questionable, if any worth at all.
- Anonymous
I wish the equip load buff was a lot higher (like 80-90%). This way you could use this to go from slightly overloaded to mid rolls and from slightly under max mid roll weight to light rolls at the cost of 35% lower lightning negation.
Would be a lot more useable then, instead of trying to keep yourself at 34.5% equip load for light rolls when buffed (so you're wasting 35.5% of your weight limit that will keep you in mid rolls), or trying to keep yourself at 80.5% equip load for medium rolls when buffed (instead of just using Great Jar's Arsenal and mid rolling anyway).
- Anonymous
It’s worse than electrified armament but it looks so freaking cool. Same scaling, higher fp cost, shorter duration, and a practically pointless equip load buff given that you get this late game. All that and I still use it for it’s cool visuals lol. If you’re looking for viability this isn’t it chief, just go with electrified armament. If you want to look good and feel good then screw it. Just use it. Do what the comment below suggested
- Anonymous
Here’s a tip: you can eat a boiled crab, or any body buff, to get rid of the debuff and equip load buff and still keep the weapon buff. Granted it’s more viable and cost less fp to just use the electrify armament and use a body buff, but you can do this if you want to keep the cool red lightning on your weapon.
- Anonymous
why this spell couldn't just be Electrify Armament + Dragonbolt Blessing is beyond me
- Anonymous
Fromsoft legit created a visually cooler but worse version of Electrified armament, smh. Same damage but higher cost of fp. Also sine the spell is late game the equip load buff is pointless for most builds at that point. Players usually have their endurance at a comfortable number late game. I’m sure for some heavy armored and colossal weapon wielding unga bunga warriors can find this useful. But really wish it was a stamina buff instead, or maybe nerf the equip buff and include a stamina buff along with it.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
They should increase the buff and lower the lightning resistance to 5%. HP costs in certain strong attacks are considerable but a 35% debuff is suicide.
- Anonymous
I just noticed, I used this spell instead of 'Flame, heal me' on accident but it kept my rot bar from raising any further. It actually took my rot down very slowly. Helpful for slowly trudging through lake of rot, which is when I used it
- Anonymous
i made a build that uses this to activate light equip load. really feels like im powering up
- Anonymous
This spell is so disappointing. Despite being red lightning it doesn't do any more damage than Electrify Armament and it has a shorter duration. The body aura is more of a debuff than a buff, 15% increase to equip load for 70 seconds is useless unless you base you equipment around it whish isn't at all worth it over adjusting your build to mid/light roll without buffing. So far more often than not you'd just be using an inferior version of Electrify Armament at the cost of more FP and -35% lightning negation.
Here's a far better way to justify the increased FP cost and late game location. It should do more damage than Electrify Armament, I'm thinking between +25% and +50%, and the aura should be reworked. Forget the equip load bonus and give it the defection bonus of Dragon's Bolt Blessing just without the status resistance. Giving it the same duration a Electrify Armament would also be nice.
If that's too much than the FP cost could be higher or something. But I'd say it would be way better than it's current state of all but useless given Electrify Armament and Dragon's Bolt Blessing exist while being better, having less drawbacks and are found far earlier in the game.
- Anonymous
I can't figure out why changing your equipload temporarily instead of putting more points in vit or changing gear would be useful at all. And weakness to electricity with it. FROM wth... Even just the combo of Electrify Armament and Dragonbolt Blessing in one slot and cast would be nice. It's like most spells and weapons are either very good or very bad with little overlap. Some are good given specific situation but crappy otherwise. After making these games for so long you'd think they'd get better at balancing stuff.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Only slighty more useful now with the recent BHS nerf. Can help you get the maximum distance/i-frames and fast roll if you don't want to spend the physick slot for the winged crystal tear.
This gives increased equip load because vyke couldnt handle that lansseax booty without it
- Anonymous
I always prefered the Red Lightning Buff for my weapon , to Off-set this Horrible Incantation firstly you need a Considerable Combo of Settings. ( Use Vyke's Dragonbolt , then immediately use Dragonbolt Blessing afterwards , this'll Override the Body Aura giving you the Dragonbolt Blessing's better Body Aura while still Maintaining the Red Lightning Buff towards your Armament ). This along with the Lord's Talisman will make the Yellow Lightning Body buff and the Red Lightning weapon buff be just like Electrify Armament's buff.... This Combo also saves you a Slot from Electrify Armament slot even tho both are Body Buffs altho Vyke's Dragonbolt blessing works as both Body & Weapon Buff , which is why this is the only Outuse i see for it while your weapon looks pretty cool and better with Red Lightning. ( You can also Golden Vow to negate and restore most of your Lost Lightning Resist , definitely equip Golden Vow as it also buffs the overall Damage of your weapon ontop of the Red Lightning Armament ). Now because you Buffed yourself with Dragonbolt Blessing after Vyke's Blessing , you should have the New better Body Buff of this Incantation and with extra cool animations equipping the Lightning Crystal Tear Physique mixture will surge up your Body with more Yellow Lightning animation combined with the Dragonbolt Blessing yet retaining the beautiful Red Lightning on your prefered Weapon.... Now i only figured this later when i wanted to Test out but sadly you can't put Flame , Grant me Strength with it. But Golden Vow is still accessible and worth the 3rd Slot. Not to even mention this Combo will make all of your Red Lightning Incantations look waay cooler aswell like Lansseax & Frotissax red lightning incantations. ;)
- Anonymous
will get you to fastroll if your regular equipload is 34.3 without it, but at that point, just put the points in endurance, don't even bother.
- Anonymous
To be fair there might be some usage for this spell now with 1.06 out. The equip load bonus is only useless because as long as you hit Medium Roll it doesn't really make much difference. However, 1.06 gives enhanced roll distance and iirc slight i-frame increase when at low equip load. So for example, against Malenia, you can use this to stay just barely in Low Equip Load to dodge her waterfowl dance easier via the long rolls (You can dodge it with 1-2 rolls vs 2-3 mid rolls) and you can wear more armor than you would otherwise have to hit low equip load, so can tank more hits.
- Anonymous
This spell is essentialy ****. The max weight bonus is useless, also applies electrify armament and the extra lightning damage received is just... Ugh. You better off just cast electrify armament and dragonbolt. I wish this spell as buffed so it could apply both DB and EA while still looking cool with the red lightning.

has anyone tested if red lightning does more damage to dragons than standard lightning? since the dragon blades work that way, seems like it could be possible?
- Anonymous
So is the dragonbolt blessing worth giving a spell slot then? I know one handed attacks bounce off, but I'm at mountaintop of the giants and I can't remember the last time I saw an enemy's combo interrupted by it.
- Anonymous
Add deflection to this like the dragonbolt blessing and it would be a great quick buff.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Really wish it lasted longer and gave some resistance to other damage types but it could be way more expensive, it's not a very good buff compared to others
- Anonymous
ive tried shuffling my build and loadout around to make use of the extra equip load and its virtually never worth it and you're better off optimizing a light load entirely in the first place if that's what you want to do. it needs to be 20% to even be in the ballpark of usable or have a different buff entirely lmao
is increased equip load worth the 8 extra FP? Maybe, but building around it is super annoying.
