Vyke's War Spear is a Great Spear in Elden Ring. The Vyke's War Spear scales primarily with Dexterity, and Faith. It is a good weapon for those users with high Dexterity builds and Faith / Dexterity Hybrid builds. Note players should use it wisely because its Ash of War inflicts madness on both their enemies and themselves.
War spear singed and blistered by fingers, used by Vyke, Knight of the Roundtable Hold.
Like Vyke himself, it has been tormented by the yellow flame of frenzy from within.

This weapon would be so much cooler if it was just a flaming greatspear. Buff its AOW damage a bit to make it actually useful in PVE to just using regular attacks and remove the madness proc and then we'll talk.
- Anonymous
frenzyflame thrust? back away, wait for explosion, do a jumping heavy with a 1000+ AR giant crusher and one shot them, casually reminding them not to do it again
- Anonymous
I think this weapon is pretty cool for pvp, it's slow, does decent damage, and the madness gives it a nice bonus. At this point I'm not even surprised people hate literally the only weapon in the game that builds madness. It's in the game and I'm going to use it, it's not even broken it's just a good pick.
- Anonymous
There’s no higher expression of skill in this game’s PvP than using weapons that build status even if you roll them perfectly - especially madness so it stuns you out of your rolls.
I’m not concerned, I have duped madness boluses lol

they should make madness work on all enemy's even if it's not as good.

In the wise words of filthy Frank.
THIS IS SO CANCEROUS I CAN FEEL THE TUMORS GROWING ON MY BACK
- Anonymous
honestly i just hope there's another madness weapon in general, or two. a madness katana would be hella fresh though
- Anonymous
no lie i actually do hope they add a madness katana or something equally as spammy in the dlc so everyone moves to that like the anon below said, this weapon and the cross spear deserve better than to be dual wielded and l1'd to death by a bunch of ganking no lifers 24/7
- Anonymous
Once they add a madness katana no one will talk about this weapon again

day 1 of hoping all double vykes users disappear mysteriously in the middle of the night
- Anonymous
Watching the cut Kale quest line would make anyone want to take up this spear and slaughter some tarnished
Day 1 of hoping we receive the version of this that Vyke uses in his Evergaol fight, the one without the Madness build-up.
- Anonymous
One time I like to shove this up the invader ass with my freind and then he cry (like babby) and mesage me with the hate male ;) favorite weapon in game!!

Day 365 of waiting for fromsoft to add the blorpus gingus buff to this tool

does vykes dragonbolt buff this weapon? i feel like it should

as much as i hate ghost hits, i cant even imagine fighting ultra laggy players without them

Day 7 of waiting for fromsoft to give this weapon bloodloss and deathblight build up

Don't care about PvP, don't care about the uselessness of madness in PvE. Feels awesome to use.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
morbidly fitting that everyone in the arena is using this now. they've all succumb to the madness that is fromsoft's awful pvp

Vyke's War Spear, The hit and miss, I'll shove you up some piss. This weapon has a good moveset, it has a cool ash of war, but the madness destroys all of that. It makes the PvE experience bad as they implemented absolute zero effort to make madness viable in the PvE scene and they made it an absolute lemonade problem in PvP as you see people relentlessly chase you with no regard for their life as they know trading will ultimately make them win by squeezing lemonade into your Tranished eyes and get a free hit.
If madness wasn't on this weapon I would give it a 10/10 in terms of viable moveset, cool back story, fabulous ash of war, but because of madness I have to take it down to an absolute 1/10.
One of the coolest weapons, absolutely destroyed by bad mechanics and dual wielding.

AoW has hyperarmor, big AoE with excellent lock on tracking, and it hits with an explosion so you cant jump into it over the AoE to counter, not to mention the Mad ess buildup/proc. Makes it one of the most annoying AoW to deal with in PvP
- Anonymous
I love the concept of madness in this game, and this spear is pretty damn fun for intimidating others with.
With Vyke's in the main and and Trina's blade in the offhand, your going to annoy the hell out of anyone you come across.
- Anonymous
Most good PSGS players that I fight usually stick to the lance and most of the time the vykes users I fight aren’t that good. But every once in a while I’ll meet a really good double vyke player and they are scary. While the range isn’t that great compared to other great spears the crouch attack is still great and if madness procs you’re already dead unless you have a lot of health left. I’ve tried this setup in invasions and I am unstoppable when I use them. Super OP in PvP would reccomend for killing gank squads.
- Anonymous
Shitter weapon used by people who need to rely on phantom hits to proc in order for them to get damage in. Very rarely am I killed by this weapon but I see it often, I always tbag the user for 30 seconds after I demolish them.
- Anonymous
The Spear is good for dealing with the pesky invader :) me and my freind use 2 vyke spear to kill him and he send us hate mail LOL I said mad becase bad!!!!
- Anonymous
When you use a single vyke spear it is a threat but not too bad. Two vykes spears is a war crime. Definitely reccomend using
- Anonymous
Double Vyke’s spotted. Immediate sever out and block player.
- Anonymous
You could say twin vykes spears in pvp are truly maddening..
- Anonymous
Trash weapon. I tried to dual wield it and was swiftly arrested for violating the Geneva Convention. Don't make the same mistake!
- Anonymous
I made a DEX/Faith madness build for PVP, but without using this broken weapon. You’re welcome.
- Anonymous
Crazy OP in PvP. Greatspears can already be quite nasty in good hands, but add a bs status effect that builds up even on ghost hits, and you have absolute of a nightmare weapon to fight against. I hate it with passion...
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
If you need to still hit people people even when you miss in pvp to win then you're well, it really speaks for itself doesn't it?
- Anonymous
If you wield one nobody bats an eye.... but when you wield two everyone starts losing their minds.....
- Anonymous
I use a faith-centric build with a 20DEX/80FAI split and noticed that the ash of war does the most damage not when I hit the enemy with the spear but when the explosion falls just on them. It is about an 800 damage difference in initial damage. If I fall right on top of them, where the spell wants to track, it will do way less than if I fall a few feet away from them and the initial explosion is what hits them.
- Anonymous
I wish this weapon were infusable. Really hope we get a regular War Spear eventually.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
on a good connection its actually balanced, which is basically never
- Anonymous
My go-to weapon for cheesing NPC invaders at ultra low level when I make builds.
- Anonymous
The skill is perfect for the frenzied flame prescription jumping puzzle
- Anonymous
So is this mostly a PvP weapon since lost enemies are immune to madness?
- Anonymous
essentially pvp easy mode. you literally get rewarded for whiffing
- Anonymous
I got invaded by full veteran armor and double Vyke War Spear in Stormveil Castle @ level 36
- Anonymous
the high stats buildup is supposed to be counterbalanced by the general stumpiness of the spear, but thats kinda moot when phantom proccing exist
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
phantom procs are an issue with every weapon that procs. weapon art is not hard to dodge if youre playing aggresive. if you run away like a pansy youre going to get screwed. play aggresive against vykes gamers. keeping a madness spell like frenzied flame also helps if you really hate it. but honestly its really easy to fight. max focus talisman makes this thing look like a joke

Totally broken in pvp, like most of the other GS. I can’t believe it hasn’t been nerfed yet. Too much damage, too much status building, and the crouch poke of course. Oh, and the jumping.
- Anonymous
One of my favorite weapons in the game yes its strong in pvp but i love the ash and I love the spears drip points also madness builds are pretty fun
- Anonymous
I love this moveset. A regular version in the DLC as a dex-ish counterpart to the Lance would be cool.
- Anonymous
The scrublord crutch. We absolutely need madness bolus purchasable in the dlc.

Mfs will be like “This is OP!” Then go use twin great spears, moonveil, bloodhound step, and rapiers in pvp
- Anonymous
The only problem with this weapon is how easy the Ash is to land in PvP
- Anonymous
I see it's not noted here, so im gonna say that this weapon has a unique heavy attack thats shared with the Serpent Hunter, thats 2 horizontal swipes instead of the typical stab
- Anonymous
Weapon Art is more situational than you would think.
It staggers most enemies on hit, even Malenia.
It is horribly slow, and you can still be hit during the entire animation, this combined with indiscriminate spam will kill you from madness proc.
Its charge is a glorious thing to behold as it repeatedly staggers enemies, and while its slow attack has a looong wind up, the poise damage it inflicts makes up for this, especially if you can set up a distraction.
Not an OP weapon by any means, it has its uses and doesn't work against everything.
- Anonymous
Oh wow they didn't nerf this garbage in the recent patch going to end up being required to use at this point especially since they nerf anything that can be a viable counter prepare to see even more of these

The weapon balance in Elden Ring is such a meme at this point. They don't even address it anymore.
"Hey should we take a look at some of these spam weapons like Vyke's or Moonlight?"
"Nah let's post the item description for Frozen Lightning Spear LOL"
DS3 still has the best PvP in the series. Nothing stands out except for the Caestus, and to get around that all you need is a 2H great weapon.
- Anonymous
you use it to powerstance and abuse phantom hits, i use it to cosplay as post-fingers vyke. we are not the same
- Anonymous
Now I find this weapon fun to use but not fun to fight against
- Anonymous
The ash can be annoying to deal with but ive seen this weapon since launch and im pretty much used to it. Even the infamous powerstance vykes can be circumvented with an angled roll behind them. Still worse than the other status builds tho. Dlc needs to drop w new madness gear. Maybe an infusion & ash? Idk maybe not.
Until then enjoy fighting this repetitive tool.
- Anonymous
As someone that doesn't play pvp too often, I LOVE this weapon, I pretty much look forward to getting it every playthrough. The weapon art can stagger Malenia if timed right and with distraction
- Anonymous
As if dual greaspears didnt have the most broken op moveset already, here come the effect that hits you when it missed you by a mile and stunlocks you forever. Great design.
- Anonymous
if phantom procs ever get fixed this and trinas will be perfectly fine
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Everyone crying for this specific weapon to be nerfed is ignoring the bigger picture, it's not the weapon that's broken, it's the entire way status buildup works in PvP, bleed and rot are just as broken and it doesn't matter how much robustness, immunity or focus you stack, all status buildups need a 50% reduction against players to have some form of balance
- Anonymous
You know i love this weapon as mutch as the next guy.
But seriously people make us "creative players" look bad becease most people just spam the weapon art with this weapon just to kill people. Which is sutch a garbage way to "battle" people.
I mean weapon art spammers shouldn't even be allowed to play pvp imo, becease these type of people ruin the pvp.
How many times haven't we seen rivers of blood weapon art spammers, this weapon art spammers, moonveil weapon art spammers. And so one and one.
Seriously though these people in pvp are ruining these weapons becease they are the reason these weapons are so hated, and need to be nerfed for. and they make people like me who atleast play creative with the weapon and it's move set in pvp, look just as bad as the spammers them selfs, or the people that just dual wield weapons like this spear. ( I mean dual wielding this weapon god it's so badly ridiculous in how easy it is to proc kill people with the status effect, as do many other weapons)
I think this meta ruined the pvp as a whole. Becease "fun and fair fights" simpley don't exist in the pvp meta. It's just chease people with op weapon art spam, gank squad stunlock or ambush people, or the people who just waste your time becease the litraly wait to one shot counter attack you by some bs.
And becease this is the meta in this game it's not worth playing pvp anymore. weapons like these are probably getting nerfed becease of what the meta people use these weapons for. (Spamming weapon arts, or dual wielding for the easy status effect proc kill) which is a shame to be honest becease they might make these nerfed weapon no longer useable after the nerf.

How do you dodge the ash of war? Every time I roll behind the player using it, the explosion still hits me and I get staggered.
- Anonymous
Do y'all just want all straight swords that deal the same damage? Stop calling everything OP. If everything is OP then nothing is OP.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Thing hits like a truck. Screw madness, just the raw damage output makes this thing scary. Obviously, if you actually manage to inflict your opponent with madness in PvP, that's GG. Really a fantastic all around weapon that I can't recommend enough.
- Anonymous
I don't pvp but I want to see this nerfed because it makes me laugh when yall get mad af
- Anonymous
Vyke users need to level up int in real life. Dude was coinvading with me and using it, did nothing but spam the weapon art directly on top of me. He killed me with a madness proc, and then proceeded to get pulverized by the host and phantoms.
- Anonymous
The only problem with this weapon is that madness can proc through phantom hits, other than that it's ok by elden ring standards
- Anonymous
>casual invasion with honest zwei poke
>host pulls out one of these
>bet
>hardswap to two of them. Instant madness because the host has built up so much of it on himself from spamming the ash of war.
>Jump L2, win.
The only way to beat vykes is to vyke harder, gamers.
U gank? U die mad.
