Still my go-to tool for fighting NPC tarnished. Hitting Leda with a madness proc is not only satisfying, but also feels thematically appropriate.

Simply do not understand how people can call this weapon bad. Somber Great-Spear you get in ****ing Liurnia, gets extremely competent Dex scaling plus the additional high split AR, the range is just not an issue at all... weapon art is honestly incredible against basically everything not resistant to fire (i.e. 80% of the enemies in this game), works well for groups, single-targets, PVP (fortunately not to the extent it used to, but shreds PvE invaders and is competent online) and just looks ridiculously good while doing it. IMO a top 5 Somber weapon.

Before the dlc this weapon's scaling was perfectly normal while the madness seal was a freak of nature for having quadruple scaling, but now that SotE has released with a myriad of new tools and every single madness item has quadruple scaling except for this one, it really makes it feel unique, seems like this was the real freak of nature all along

After the DLC, these weapons only got worse. Low damage compared to other great spears and a long accumulation of madness status. The ****ing torch from the dlc takes this spear to zero.

I'm confused about this weapon. It primarily scales with Dex but the weapon art seems to do low damage, probably because it's fire in which case I should level Str to which has a D for scaling?

To those wondering why some people defend this weapon: it’s trash now. Reach is short and buildup on power stanced is fortunately lower

I do not think I have ever dodged the weapon skill without taking at least a little damage. Even if you get behind them as they're doing their 360 in the air to perfectly track you, the skill makes a fire hitbox underneath them that damages you even if you're behind them.

The fact madness will still build up and proc even when you dodge an attack is so frustrating. I know this works for other effects too such as bleed, but my god does it feel more annoying for madness. You are then stunned for a second and a half, giving the other player an opening for an additional attack

idk honestly I've used dozens of weapons in invasions and this one isn't even that good. It's pretty strong when you're on the front foot, but even then if they don't predictably roll you only get so much damage from phantom madness procs and the follow up hit. After that you have to keep chasing them all over again. It'd be way better to just use something that roll catches AND inflicts a status affect, something with a better moveset. Ganks can literally just run at you and mash while you hold this, it doesn't do anything for you on the back foot. You can threaten to L2 and pray they're idiots and get hit by it and that's about it, meanwhile you're risking losing half or more of your HP to something much safer and consistent like Moonveil L2 spam. If anything this is a way better ganker weapon, since you don't have to worry about defending yourself. Just running attack spam over and over and enjoy the free win.

Really good weapon for killing invaders. I keep getting invaded by these tryharding losers when I just want to play with my friends so the solution is to run these or moonveil or maginatas with bleed on em! Kills them so quick then back to having fun

Crazy how there are more bleed, poison and frostbite weapons than you can shake a stick at and all three can be added with infusions, meanwhile madness gets one single weapon and no infusion. Same issue with sleep. Hopefully that changes with the upcoming DLC

This weapon would be so much cooler if it was just a flaming greatspear. Buff its AOW damage a bit to make it actually useful in PVE to just using regular attacks and remove the madness proc and then we'll talk.

I think this weapon is pretty cool for pvp, it's slow, does decent damage, and the madness gives it a nice bonus. At this point I'm not even surprised people hate literally the only weapon in the game that builds madness. It's in the game and I'm going to use it, it's not even broken it's just a good pick.

There’s no higher expression of skill in this game’s PvP than using weapons that build status even if you roll them perfectly - especially madness so it stuns you out of your rolls.

Vyke's War Spear, The hit and miss, I'll shove you up some piss. This weapon has a good moveset, it has a cool ash of war, but the madness destroys all of that. It makes the PvE experience bad as they implemented absolute zero effort to make madness viable in the PvE scene and they made it an absolute lemonade problem in PvP as you see people relentlessly chase you with no regard for their life as they know trading will ultimately make them win by squeezing lemonade into your Tranished eyes and get a free hit.

If madness wasn't on this weapon I would give it a 10/10 in terms of viable moveset, cool back story, fabulous ash of war, but because of madness I have to take it down to an absolute 1/10.

One of the coolest weapons, absolutely destroyed by bad mechanics and dual wielding.

AoW has hyperarmor, big AoE with excellent lock on tracking, and it hits with an explosion so you cant jump into it over the AoE to counter, not to mention the Mad ess buildup/proc. Makes it one of the most annoying AoW to deal with in PvP

I love the concept of madness in this game, and this spear is pretty damn fun for intimidating others with.
With Vyke's in the main and and Trina's blade in the offhand, your going to annoy the hell out of anyone you come across.

Most good PSGS players that I fight usually stick to the lance and most of the time the vykes users I fight aren’t that good. But every once in a while I’ll meet a really good double vyke player and they are scary. While the range isn’t that great compared to other great spears the crouch attack is still great and if madness procs you’re already dead unless you have a lot of health left. I’ve tried this setup in invasions and I am unstoppable when I use them. Super OP in PvP would reccomend for killing gank squads.
