Only useful for speed runners and low level invaders, especially now that the DLC is out. Sure 10% is a decent damage boost, but you're missing out on an awesome quest line and the some of the best drip in the game if you get this talisman.
- Anonymous
Now that DLC is out, there is even less sense for people to kill Alexander for a meager 10% boost: you can get to Farum Azula, get your +15%, and still have lots of time for playing.

Took Him Down after Radahn Fight, He really Though he was something, HA! had the beast sleep of my life after The Pot was No More

i swear this item drops from those warrior jars I got one from it in raya lucaria. I have this and alexanders too.

So, let's do some arithmetic. 10% for the whole game, or 15% for a tenth of the game. It's a landslide. Get this asap.
Damn I'm losing 5% less damage? You're not dying on me now Alexander
- Anonymous
im sorry alexander lmao. I'll make sure to honor your might everytime i one shot a enemy with this shard equipped.
- Anonymous
They could make it so that you get this item after the Radahn festival if Alexander participates right? Like a piece of Alexander that got chipped during the fight.

If you are going for a Achievement/Completionist 100% save, i recommend getting this (and millicent's prosthesis) while going for the frenzied flame ending because of two reasons:
1: You are essentially just sparing them from a even more agonizing death
2: If Melina comes for you with Destined Death you are going to get what you rightfully deserve.
Or perhaps i'm just trying to justify the fact that i killed two heartwarming npc's for the sake of progress and that just absolutely ****ing broke my heart.

I'm really sorry Alexander but I'm not dragging my low level early game coop cosplay meme characters all the way to Farum Azula for another 5%

To the comment below, it really depends on whether or not you are going to be doing NG+, and whether or not you plan on playing PvP once you hit the meta levels. Especially in PvP, because this is a rare talisman that was not nerfed, so it's 15% straight up. And it NG+ you'll have it the entire game. Often players will wait to NG+ to do a more complete playthrough, check out guides and stuff to see what they missed in their blind playthrough. Personally as a souls completionist, and someone that hates killing NPCs and prefers doing their quests, I always get the good one. And one last thing, with the DLC coming out, it has been rumored that certain characters are going to have extended questlines with the additional content, just like in DS3, so it's something to consider. But yeah, if you have no plans whatsoever to go into NG+, considering how useful a 10% bump to ashes can be early on, this is one of the few NPCs that could justify a killing, because it does not conflict with any other quests, and he's not a very useful summon if I remember correctly. He draws some aggro from Radahn, and I think he might be available for Fire Giant. But way better to summon real people for that.

This is not bad at all. It's actually pretty good. You can get it very early and will be available to use for the entire game. Meanwhile Shard of Alexander is super late. At that point it's high likely you cleared big majority of the content anyway. Sure the Shard of Alexander has a better boost in damage but it's not by much. %10 is still very good and once again, you can use it for the entire game.

I got this and the upgraded one when Alexander died in Farum Azula during launch days so I have both of the shards on my first character

If you use this, you are a coward and a terrible friend to Alexander and you should be ashamed

This is not much worse than Alexander’s shard and you get it much earlier so it’s good for challenge runs. The true price though of using this isn’t the 5% extra AoW damage it’s the emotional damage of having to kill Alexander early. It’s a similar case as millicents prosthesis where it gives a strong boost but you have to be a terrible person in order to acquire it.

I know all the people on this wiki play the game to ng+7 twice a week, but it really is worth it to grab this one for quick casual runs of the game. A 10% boost for the whole game versus a 15% boost for 4 bosses is quite a difference. Though i get alot of people don't play the game this way, if you casually speedrun it to play different builds and characters, its great to grab this early.
I think it's worth it to kill Alexander at the start of the game. Farum Azula is basically the end of the game, so it's better to have the inferior talisman for the whole playthrough. And the difference isn't that huge so I just murder the poor pot as soon as I see him in Limgrave

Does this boost the heavy attacks from the roar Ashes of War like Braggart's Roar and War Cry or is that what the Roar Talisman is for?
I'm about to make a build using the Moonveil, and I'm genuinely upset thinking about having to kill Alexander (the build stops at Dragonbarrow, so the true endgame players will get more annoying builds to deal with).
I love that dude, he's such a goofus. Is a shame he's the only guy you can get Talismans from, but then again he's the only Living Jar outside of Jarbirg worth half a damn.
Can't equip both, so unless you're doing a challenge run of using only AOW or just really impatient, it's just better to get it at Farum Azula.
- Anonymous
Would be nice if you could get this without killing Alexander. For example after Radahn fight when he tells you he got cracked in the fight.

- Anonymous
Simple rule: if a ash of war does damage, it gets boosted. Ashes of war that are buffs(like determination and all barbaric roar) or status buildups(like freezing mist) do not benfit from this
- Anonymous
If I've already got the shard of Alexander is there any point at all in killing him on the next playthrough for a talisman that is inferior to it?
- Anonymous
Would this talisman also increase the damage of a passive effect of an ash of war, like bleed or frost build-up, on a weapon?
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
I wouldn't say this is the Onion Bro of Elden Ring... I do believe a DLC will do such an honor. Calling it now
- Anonymous
The difference in percentage sadly isn’t enough for me to want to wait until Farum Azula. 10% vs 15% just is not justifiable for the time it’ll take to get the marginally better talisman.

If you got this instead of the shard of the great Alexander, you’re not only disgusting scum, you’re also not optimized. Fr Fr.

My first playthrough after release I received this along with the Shard of Alexander when I completed his quest. Seems they patched it so you only get the shard and not this one when his quest is completed. Lame.

Weird decision not to have this version of the talisman drop from a source other than killing Alexander early. Like, why not have it drop from a different jar, or picked up from a chest or something? Waiting till Farum Azula for the better version just seems dumb when you can’t get the normal version without killing that same NPC.
- Anonymous
why on earth was this changed so it no longer drops when you fight him a duel in forum. like WHY change this at all? no reason to not give the player both charms there. the patchnotes dont even MENTION this change. wtf fromsoft. seriously. changes like this make no sense at all.
- Anonymous
Sorry Alexander, it's just business. You wouldn't spawn at Farum Azula, so I had to take you out.

so apparently, if you don't visit Jar-Bairn before completing alexanders questline, Alexander doesn't drop the Warrior Jar Shard.
i went through the entirety of Alexander's questline without ever going to Jarburg and when i defeated him in the final duel he only dropped the Shard Of Alexander and the Innards.
maybe this is just a bug on my end, but beware.

considering the description of the other item, shouldn't he drop the other one after radahn, since that's where I'm assuming he gets the "red hair" from picking the battlefield? it's the sort of detail I expect from from soft soft

I know what I have to do but I don't know if I have the strength to do it
- Anonymous
I got both this and Shard of Alexander on my first playthrough.
I don't recall where I picked up this one though because I certainly did his Questline til the end.
Where did I receive this??
- Anonymous
So stupid you can’t use both this and the great version at the same time. Why make it so you can use both canvas’ and both grave mass talismans Simultaneously but not these?

I kill him every first playthrough for this shard everytime. This is far more valuable early on to have for the entire playthrough than doing his questline and getting the 5% more version at the end of the game.
- Anonymous
i killed him in radhan bonfire and he gave me the shard (this shard is 5% minus damage than the better version lol)
- Anonymous
As of 1.0.3, can confirm that killing Alexander in his first location drops Warrior Jar Shard.
- Anonymous
With the latest patch you don't get this shard anymore if you complete his whole questline. You only get it if you kill him before the duel part. Which makes perfect sense. You kill him early, you get weaker talisman. You kill him honorably in a warriors duel, you get a better version of the talisman. And since you can't equip both talismans at the same time it makes sense that we don't get both anymore. You only need the better version.

Did not drop after beating him in a duel. Reloaded and wasn't there either.

I think this talisman is gained a different way than alexander as of 1.03. It may be gained through the jar village questline now or some other way. keep your noses to the ground.

If you completed Alexander's questline and haven't obtained it, reload the area where you killed him and the jar shard will be there
- Anonymous
Why on earth does it give both at the same time if the other shard is better...
Completed Alexander's questline and only received the Shard of Alexander, not this one.
- Anonymous
I tested it on my Moonveil slash and it went from 625 to 688, so a 10% increase
- Anonymous
This gives 10% skill damage increase. If you finish Alexander's Quest Line, you get this talisman and a stronger version of this talisman that gives 14.9% skill damage increaseincrease.

Kill Alexander after the battle against Radahn to get this (may not be the only option)
It's worth it if you plan on staying at a low level for PvP. I don't know about you in particular, but I assume that the vast majority of the player base is not skilled enough to beat the Fire Giant with something like a +3 Somber weapon at Level 40. If you can, then great, you are a skilled player, but I can't, therefore I'm perfectly fine with the 10% damage boost. I'm not the kind of person to lose sleep over a further 5% damage increase when it would require me to beat my head against a brick wall for several dozen hours to obtain it. The same logic can be applied for the Beast Champion Set which is available right from the start of the game, or the Erdtree's Favor +2 which is further locked behind Maliketh, whereas the +1 version is available from a chest that doesn't even require the defeat of the boss that is in the same room.
