Wing Stance

wing stance
Calmly assume a right-sided stance. Normal attack triggers a rapid three-slash combination. Strong attack triggers a leaping thrust.

Wing Stance is a Skill in Elden Ring. It was added with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLCWing Stance allows the user to enter a calm stance, and then trigger a lightning-quick flurry of attacks. Wing Stance uses Quality Affinity and is usable on light greatswords.

How to get Wing Stance in Elden Ring

  • Inside a chest in the tower that you can reach by jumping over the edge just outside Castle Lord's Chamber Site of Grace in Castle Ensis, and following the cliffside down to the tower before climbing up two ladders to reach it [Map Link]

Elden Ring Wing Stance Guide, Notes & Tips

  • This is an Ash of War Skill, associated with the Ash of War: Wing Stance
  • FP Cost: 0 (stance), 8 for light follow-up and 10 for heavy follow-up
  • Deals 16.5 stance damage on light follow-up, and 30.2 stance damage on heavy follow-up
  • This Skill is not Chargeable
  • This Skill can be Parried
  • After performing a light follow-up without letting go of the Skill button, the user will immediately return to the Wing Stance and will be able to perform a follow-up again with very little delay. The heavy follow-up has some end-lag before returning to the stance.
  • While one-handed, the light follow-up can be chained into a multi-hit combo: L2-R1 > R2 > R1 > R1 (stance-light, heavy, light, light)
  • The Heavy follow-up leaps over and evades low/ground attacks, but doesn't count as a jumping attack for the Claw Talisman (and similar effects).
  • This Skill is a Stance Skill, thus it is buffed by the talisman Rellana's Cameo.

note: from my testing, rellana's cameo stays active if you keep using the skill, aka holding L2 and using the R1 into R1 or into R2 without letting go of L2 will mean that the other attacks are still boosted even if you don't wait the normal activation time, this is ridiculously strong and I love it. (yup double checked, running tests against a blackflame monk in caelid tower with a +25 keen affinity, both times i did the R1 into R2 for consistency, with charging for rellana's cameo just the R2 did 1751 dmg without charging for rellana's cameo the R2 follow up only did 1208

You can enter the dlc early and low level and rush milady, but I’m not sure about this. I’m gonna try soon, anyone have any luck?

Should be usable on katanas, straight swords, and thrusting swords. Such a dope ash of war locked to a single weapon is very poor design. They were definitely drunk when designing some of these weapons in this dlc.

Spamming L2-R1's with this is like the best npc killer in the game, they just do not do anything about it. Combined with Rellana's Cameo and Shard of Alex, this is my go-to NPC deleter.

            • Anonymous

This **** is too op. Small FP cost, very buffable, decently fast, heavy can jump over attacks and light can easily activate the effects of consecutive attack talismans. Heck im doing 3K damage on a heavy or a full light attack combo just at 80 dex on a keen milady with rellana's cameo and bloodflame blade (and i could be buffing this with flame grant me strenght, golden wow, shard of alexander, etc)

Is this AoW supposed to be reference Malenia's moves?

She does the slash slash slash and rushing poke as well, even a sort of Wing Stance in the boss fight intro.

                • Anonymous

with relanna's cameo, if you use a heavy attack right after a light attack, the boost lasts for entire combo

                    "While one-handed, the light follow-up can be chained into a multi-hit combo: L2-R1 > R2 > R1 > R1 (stance-light, heavy, light, light)"

                    Uhhh nope

I want to use this with buffed rellana’s cameo on radahn so bad. I wonder what the damage is gonna be like with also FGMS, golden vow, shard of alexander, two handed tailsman, and bloodsucking crack tear.

Power stance Milady with renalla’s in the off hand took down Malenia today. R2 dodges a bunch of her swipes and thrusts, and range is perfect.

How much status application does the stance R1 have? If it's 100% on all three hits, then it would be as good as a thrusting sword with repeating thrusts for applying frost/bleed

I literally infinite L2+R1 combo demihuman swordsman, ancient dragon, any human sized opponent. It isn't even a fight. This is just broken.

Spells can be cast while in stance, which is great for mindgames and for mitigating its weaknesses, most notably the lack of hyperarmor and poise damage. Gavel of Haima will allow you to trade with its hyperarmor with the bonus pancake reset. Wrath of gold and similar spells is amazingly hilarious against people who think they can just bum-rush you out of the stance.

                                please note.
                                please note, tarnished.

the r2 after entering wing stance has literally carried me through bosses alongside spells. hell, it would not even spells if anything.
for whatever reason, both the stagger damage it does to bosses and the raw damage itself is insanely strong on the r2. would not be surprised if it got nerfed in the future as it makes an absolute mockery of most bosses due to its insanely raw damage.

the only time the damage decreases is when you're out of FP, but obviously just keep the FP up and you'll have an insanely strong, fast, spammable attack for bosses on whiff punishes for their attacks.

One thing I have been absolutely sleeping on about this ash is its combo potential. One combo is written above, but what I did not expect is that L2R1 combos directly into L2R2 without any windup!
That means, you can actually deal some real solid damage with this, as L2R1 has LVL2 hitstun, giving you safe opportunity to land L2R2, which in turn has level3 hitstun, allowing you to comfortably use ChargedR2 or atleast basic R2!
So against lot of enemies, you can actually safely go L2R1->L2R2->ChargedR2->R1 for very solid 16.5+30.2+33 stance damage and on my multihit setup about 10k damage at my level.

Of course doesnt work on unflinchable bosses, but nothing does.. :D

Was messing around with it earlier today and found that repeated L2 + R1 melts guarding haligtree knights as the first hit won't glance off the shield and the second and third hits will break their poise before they can perform a guard counter. Haven't tested it on other knight types but I assume it'll be similar.

Curious why this wasn't just the Default AoW for Milady, considering it's the only weapon in the game that can use it.

That sweet R2 carried me all the way through the Bayle fight. 100/10 would curse Bayle again #RIPIgonTheTrueDrakeWarrior

Most fun ash of war I've found so far, looks cool as hell, rather versatile and deals a truckload of damage

                                          • Anonymous

getting well over 2k damage on messmer knights with the stance r2. 60 ARC occult infusion, shard of alexander+rellanas cameo. idk how the scadutree fragments figure in, but i’m at +7.

                                            • Anonymous

comparable to piercing fang, the AoW I think is the best and was the mvp for all my NG+ runs
of course one does things that the other doesn't
Wing stance is more versatile but I switch to piercing fang if there is an elite with a shield or when I don't wanna bother with the stance mechanic.

Wing stance came in clutch when the boss had just enough poise that it didn't flinch from a piercing fang but it did with wing stance heavy

Wing stance just has so many options along with it being on a light greatsword

if we are strictly talking about the heavy followup, wing stance is a side grade to piercing fang, impaling thrust, giant hunt, etc

                                              • Anonymous

R1 from this stance stunlocks NPCs hard, trivializes 1-on-1 NPC fights. Also interrupts medium-sized enemies better than regular uncharged R2. Stance R2 is a decent gap closer with good stance pressure. All in all, a good all-rounder of a skill, not great at any one particular situation, but pretty versatile

                                                • Anonymous

Really cool loking ashe of war, but very slow to cast, use this in a boss battle is ask to take damage, to be more viable on bosses this will need a small buff to the casting speed
