Witch-Hunter Jerren is an NPC in Elden Ring. Jerren, first known as Castellan Jerren, is a part of the Sorceress Sellen questline. He can also be seen as a herald, making proclamations about the Radahn Festival around Redmane Castle just as the festival is getting prepared to start. He then initiates the festival. Jerren has the opportunity to fight alongside players as an NPC Summon.
I am Jerren. Foolish old warrior, and witness. Incidentally, do you like a good festival, from time to time?
Witch-Hunter Jerren Location in Elden Ring
Witch-Hunter Jerren can be found at church at Redmane Castle.
- This NPC moves
- This merchant can be fought
- If defeated, drops: Eccentric Set
Witch-Hunter Jerren Questline: How to complete Witch-Hunter Jerren's Quest
In order to proceed with these quests that involve Sorceress Sellen, Starscourge Radahn must be defeated. You can then find Jerren seated at Redmane Castle, north of the Chamber Outside the Plaza Site of Grace. [Map Link]
If he is not at Redmane Castle, he is likely already at his second location in Witchbane Ruins. Speak to him then you can find him next where you previously found the chained Sorceress Sellen in Witchbane Ruins.
If you still cannot locate Jerren in the Witchbane Ruins, you may need to further progress in the Sorceress Sellen questline. At his point you will probably need to bring Sellen's stone to the puppet body in Seluvis' secret basement by the three sister towers in north Liurnia before he will appear with Sellen's body in this location.
The next encounter should be at the Raya Lucaria Academy Library. [Map Link] You will be given a choice to side with Sellen or Jerren. If you choose to side with Jerren, you will be engaging in combat alongside him against Sellen.
Siding with Sellen
If you side with Sellen and defeat Jerren, his armor set, Eccentric Set is obtained. This includes the Eccentric's Hood, Eccentric's Armor, Eccentric's Manchettes, and Eccentric's Breeches. You can also gain the Glintstone Kris from Sellen as a reward and gain access to Shard Spiral for purchase.
Siding with Jerren
Choose to side with Jerren and you will obtain Sellen's Bell Bearing, and Witch's Glintstone Crown upon the defeat of Sellen. He will also reward you with an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone after speaking with him. You will find him where his summon sign was outside the Grand Library Site of Grace.
Dialogue in Elden Ring: Witch-Hunter Jerren
Introduction before the festival§
- Oh, Tarnished, are you? How did you slip inside, with the gate closed? Hmph. No matter. If you can fell one of them, you're a champion, in my book. I am Jerren. Foolish old warrior, and witness. Incidentally, do you like a good festival, from time to time? Well, it's true, this fortress houses only the vanquished. But when the stars align, we celebrate. A war festival honoring the last battle and death of General Radahn, the mightiest demigod of the Shattering, and bearer of a Great Rune.
- [I'm not the festive type] Well, you're not much fun, are you, chum? No matter. One day you will see. That true warriors bask in glory at the festival.
- [About Iji] Well, I haven't heard that name in an age. Then you must serve Princess Ranni? The next time you speak to Iji, tell him this: The festival of Radahn will surely set Ranni's fate into motion. By the by... Is that old fool still hammering out weapons? His enormous frame, cramped in that little place... Bit of a haughty sort. Strange fella, when I knew him. And funny thing, his swords were all blunt as stone. But not one of them decayed when faced with the scarlet rot...
- Go on, now. This old geezer hasn't any use for you just yet.
Festival proclamation
- Champions, welcome! The stars have aligned! The festival is nigh! General Radahn, mightiest demigod of the Shattering, awaits you!
- Champions, prepare for battle! Defeat the General, claim glory, and grab that Great Rune! A celebration of war! The Radahn Festival!
- Are you good and prepared, young chum? The festival begins!
- I see... when you are ready, come to me again.
- Before we begin, allow me to pain you the full picture. General Radahn is cursed ever to wander. Eaten from the inside, by Malenia's scarlet rot, his wits are long gone. Now he gathers the corpses of former friends and foes alike, gorging on them, like a dog. Howling at the sky.
- But now, we must make merry. O gathering of champions, the revels begin! The celebration of war! The Radahn Festival!
- You will find the field of battle past the church ahead, upon the shore under the fort. General Radahn is there, even now. Divested of his wits, devouring corpses... and howling at the sky...
§After the festival
- At last, the war festival has ended. Brave champion you have our gratitude. The Celebration was spectacular. General Radahn is surely pleased. Festering with rot, and crippled by madness, all he wanted was an honorable death.
- Finally, my work is done. I am no longer bound to this fortress. I have a task in mind. Old business you could say. You wouldn't understand. May we meet again if the fates deign it, brave champion.
- Ah, well met. I hardly expected to see the champion of the festival here of all places. You didn't ... know Sellen did you? Well, whatever the case, she's dead now. Just put it behind you. She was known as the Graven Witch. Obsessed by the primeval current, countless sorcerers fell to her hands. The most dangerous mage in the entire history of Raya Lucaria's Academy
- It is strange through. The woman, she was like a husk, her soul already fled. I suspect Sellen lives on, elsewhere. I'm sure she'll turn up eventually, in another body. A sickening thought, but one that won't stop gnawing at me.
Siding with Jerren, during Sorceress Sellen invasion
- "Sellen, Graven Witch, enemy of Caria.
I vow this time to crush both your frame and your primal glintstone.
I am Jerren, bringer of your death. Do not forget."
Final
- My thanks, for the aid given. I heard from Iji that Lady Ranni might have found herself a champion. But I didn't know he was talking about you. You've helped me fulfil an old promise. This is the least I can do for you. Please, take it.
[Hands you x1 Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone] - Well, I must be leaving now. Brave warrior, if the fates deign it.. No, we shall indeed meet again, at the next glorious tourney.
- Well, I must be leaving now. If the fates deign it, may we meet again, Tarnished.
When attacked
- Ugh! What's the matter with you? You trying to get revenge?
- (Combat) Very well. If the Graven Witch put you under her spell, you must be eliminated...
- (On player kill) Rest now. Alongside the witch's corpse.
- (On death) You...are a menace... Iji...beware...
Elden Ring Witch-Hunter Jerren Notes & Trivia
- Can be summoned during the second phase of Radahn's boss fight
- In combat, Jerren wields a Flamberge with the Flaming Strike Ash of War, and a Carian Glintblade Staff, which he uses to cast Magic Glintblade.
- This set's design is inspired directly from the armor once worn by German Landsknecht, elite mercenaries who were often hired and served underneath the Holy Roman Empire. They were especially famous for their use of the Zweihander greatsword.
- His set is very similar in appearance to Slave Knight Gael, along with the hood and beard.

Eccentric's Armor

Sorceress Sellen
The stars alter the fate of the Carian royal family. And the fate of your mistress, Ranni. But long ago, General Radahn challenged the swirling constellations, and in a crushing victory, arrested their cycles.
My body lies elsewhere. But the academy's shackles prevent it being moved.
Thank you. You've helped me fill a new body, once again. And it's truly a gem. Young and full of vigor, a snug fit for my Primal Glintstone.
War Counselor Iji
Before taking up the banner of General Radahn, he was a guest of the Carian royal family. An expert swordsman, to be sure, but ever the eccentric."
Now the time has come to remind him of an old promise made. With the stars of fate set into motion, a certain sorceress is dispossessed of her immortality... Finally, we can be rid of a longstanding Carian weed...
Spirit NPC
Convene the festival of war. Honor General Radahn, with a warrior's glory. It's in your hands, Sir Jerren...
AnonymousI have a question. Can you still get the primal sorcerers set ( Azur set, Lusat set ) by siding with Jerren in the final step of the quest? I really need this information for my NG+ run. Thanks

AnonymousI just wanted the ancient smithing stone, but morally I am with girl-boss Sellen, which is why I always kill this utter ding dong afterwards

Anonymous
I sided with him for the Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone, i dont need to pretend like i did it for some moral reason.

AnonymousSorry mate. The end is nigh. For you and the entire carian royal family. Sellen will take charge.

Anonymous
This guy is a misogynist for hating on Sellen. That's why I always side with him

AnonymousGael thought he could sneak into another game and we won't notice

AnonymousI had a dream that I met Jerren at a bar without his armor and weapons but with a blindfold. We got drunk, I beat him up and ran away. He dropped his set, I got a promt but like irl. And then I went underground and french kissed Elianne from Lotf.
I should quit playing soulslikes.
AnonymousFor all of you who are having a moral dilemma on who to side with, know that Sellen sacrificed a lot of her students to further enhance her studies, which led to her banishment. Additionally, she gets turned into a Graven Mass anyway. Compared to Jerren, a an absolute chad who made a vow of honourable death to the mightiest of the demigods, its pretty easy to see who you should side with lore-wise.

The pain of being a str/int build and not knowing whether kill him or Sellen, chat I need help

AnonymousIm about to kill him after finish betray sellen, but when he mention iji, nah he's a friend

Anonymous“Before we begin, allow me to paint you the full picture.”
No thanks Santa Claus, I think you better stay away from paint.
Anonymous
Jerren is largely useless in the invasion against Sellen, dying in about 10 seconds. Which is why I immediately killed him after receiving the smithing stone.

AnonymousWhere is the dialogue about Jerren painting the full picture about Radahn?

AnonymousAh yes Witch-Hunter Jerren cannot handle a woman with power. What a joke. Explains his fashion.

AnonymousYou can actually still get Sellen’s Crown if you side with her, as we all know, Rennala is a lot stronger than she leads on, just look around the library after defeating Jerrin

AnonymousWhere does he go if anywhere after you take the ancient dragon smithing stone?

Side with Jaren, talk to him, get his smithing stone, then kill him for set. Only thing you miss out on is dagger and spell, and teachers love.

AnonymousYou should be able to tell him Miq's plan and summon him for final boss fight. It doesn't even need much dialogues. I just want to see this guy goes ham about his bro.

AnonymousWhen trying to fight him, I can't actually attack him, because the game considers me in a safe zone. He can clap my cheeks just fine tho. I am using the seemless Co-op mod, does anyone have a solution, or having the same issue?

AnonymousSince Radahn and Jerren had a vow of honorable death, I wonder if that was partially Radahn's way of ensuring he'd be able to hold up his end of the vow with Miquella. Like maybe Radahn knew the festival would be needed one day.

AnonymousAh yes after the dialogue with freyja it would make sense IF (but no fromsoft went a bit braindead since developing the dlc) you'll catch up Jerren for the epic npc or endboss battle after telling him what miquella is planning to do.

AnonymousAnd FromSoftware for some reason doesn't continue his quest in the DLC, lol!

AnonymousHand it over. That thing, your ancient dragon smithing stone.

Anonymous
AnonymousReally helpful to just say "at the library" when referring to the summons signs OUTSIDE. Wasted way too much time running around because of that

AnonymousSide with Jerren and collect the Dragon smithing stone. Then kill him right away for this Armor. Hurray

Anonymousif you really think about it, siding with him is objectively better because you save seller from being a ****ing ball for the rest of eternity

AnonymousYou can get the Witch's Glintstone Crown by siding with either of them

Anonymous
AnonymousIf anyone's having trouble beating him, especially on lv1 because he's immune to all status effects (maybe not bleed, haven't tried), the volcano pot is incredibly effective if you can get him in a tight spot. Just don't lock on, throw it at the ground or wall, otherwise he'll usually dodge them.

AnonymousIs there any reason not to kill him? One ancient dragon stone, or his armor and a weapon and sellens crown and a spell... not a tough choice here

Anonymous
Anonymouscan you just kill him for his armor without doing the quest? will he still drop it?

Jerren vs some poor int-build woman: I AM THE BRINGER OF YOUR DEATH *proceeds to two-taps the feet-worshipping Tarnished phantom*
Jerren vs Radahn: *fart* *dies in 2 seconds*
Anonymous
AnonymousHe is so focused on quenching any threat to Caria , that he willingly side-rolls into the elevator shaft. Epic.

Anonymous
AnonymousSeems like the summons for him or Sellen won't show up at Raya Lucaria Grand Library if you already defeated Rennala. I could find the summons signs, I looked everywhere at Raya Lucaria including the Grand Library entrance.

Anonymous
Anonymous
Anonymous"We shall indeed meet again, at the next glorious tourney."
>Never shows up again
Unfinished quest moment
AnonymousI regret killing him at the end of sellens quest so i went to new game+7 and killed sellen instead now the witch lies dead

AnonymousThe comments on all these pages make me hate that i enjoy these games

Anonymous
AnonymousNo resemblance to Gael... Again more irrelevant information...

AnonymousHand it over, that thing, your redundant unoriginal comment on this page.

AnonymousCan you kill this guy after defeating radahn at redmane Castle?

AnonymousI spoke with him in Redmane to start the festival, how did I not receive his gesture?

Every time I see him, I can’t help imagining him juggling a bunch of glintstones or smithing stones or something.

AnonymousCareful just running up to Sellen in Witchbane ruins; the marionette soldiers followed me down and almost killed her :/

AnonymousAt the end of his portion of sellens quest, he mentions meeting you again in a future great tourney. I hope we team up to kick godwyns fish ass in the dlc or something. gael wizard bro is bff

Anonymous
Anonymoushe died during the fight and i only found his armor in his sign! i got no stone!!!!

AnonymousAre there any way to attack him in the castle? My game is bugged, and he hasn't moved from the castle even after I killed Radahn, so now I can't progress Sellen's questline.

AnonymousHe's more a mix between Hodrick and Gael if you look at his Breastplate (chest armor) and ofc the Flamberge.

AnonymousHe's more a mix between Hodrick and Gael if you look at his Breastplate (chest armor) and ofc the Flamberge.

AnonymousThe fight against Jerren is rough. He has ten thousand stamina and can dodge roll a million times in a row so he avoids every spell Sellen casts, and if you try to take advantage of the distraction to attack,he turns around and chunks you for 3/4 HP in one swing. You'll notice that during this brief moment,Sellens spells do ABSOLUTELY NO DAMAGE to this man. He could have a lovely afternoon tea sitting in the middle of Sellens entire arsenal of spells and it would be a gentle breeze on his face.
If you use Sellen as bait,it's 0 diff and he kills her in like four hits. If you try to fight him using her as backup,he will avoid every attack and then two tap you
Anonymous
AnonymousThis is noted on Sellen's quest page, but not here:
Siding with Jerren allows you to kill both of them for both sets of rewards (just kill Jerren outside the library after he gives you the stone).
HOWEVER, if you kill Sellen, you cannot get the Azur and Lusat armor sets until NG+!
AnonymousAnyone else think this guy might be voiced by the same guy as Gideon?

AnonymousEarly 2000's triple H could have voiced him
The stars have aligneduhh...
The festival is nighuh...
Prepare for battluhh...
Anonymous
AnonymousWish you could somehow get his armor and still keep him alive at the end of his quest. His role is small but I really like him from what we do see and I hope he shows up again in a DLC, like he said. Eh, until then, anything for that sweet drip

Anonymous
AnonymousSo is there a point to siding with this guy? If you side with sellen you get 3 armor sets and a sorcery. If you side with jerren you get a max upgrade mat. Plus you actually get to know sellen during the questline, this guy has like one bit of dialogue during it. Really feels like the game is pushing you into siding with sellen. Wish it was more fleshed out, giving him his own side of the quest and better rewards, making it a bigger choice at the end.

AnonymousIf we get arena DLC, I’ll bet Jerren will be involved with that tournament somehow. Until then, I’ll be cosplaying and holding my own tournaments in Leyndell where the tree crucible knight is blocking the elevator shortcut :)

Anonymous
AnonymousMaybe consider putting more info on his page, like say... how he's also one of the ways to start the radahn festival? Seems like a pretty important piece of missing info.
For those who obviously don't know because this wiki doesn't say anything, if you defeat the two champions in redmane castle first before talking to ranni and starting the festival through helping blaidd, there's another way to start it in game, with entirely different dialogue from npcs. Jerren and iji seem to have history, and if you talk to iji after meeting jerren he'll have you go back to jerren to start up the festival a totally different way. Just thought I'd share.
Anonymous*after killing sellen*
...and then... the ashes were three. *maniacal laugh*
Anonymous
AnonymousI got Sirris ptsd when I was summoned to protect Sellen.
The difference was Sellen was not completely useless in every possible way.
AnonymousAnyone know how to glitch into Radahn's arena after Jerren had been killed?

Anonymous
AnonymousThis man only lives in NG+, sorry but I'm putting 3 armor sets in front of a smithing stone.

AnonymousIf you side with Jerren you can still get his set after by killing him after getting the ancient dragon smithing stone

Anonymous
AnonymousBehold, one of the only cool npcs who doesn't die tragically!

AnonymousAnyone thinking this may actually be Slave Knight Gael? After beating Radahn and speaking to him he talks about his work being done here and having another bussiness to attend “one you wouldn’t understand” he says. This made me think maybe it is Gael becouse in Dark Souls III he is also able to “travel between worlds”. One being Kingdom of Lothric, Painted World of Ariandel and Ringed city. Also his appearence is somewhat similar to Gael. And since we have Patches (I know he appears in all Fromsoft games but it serves as good example in this case) in this universe, maybe there are more hints suggesting that these two worlds are somehow connected. Anyone else had this thought popped in their head after speaking to him?

Anonymous
AnonymousI got Witch's Glintstone Crown even when I sided with Sellen, after her transformation, it's next to her.

AnonymousOn the promotional imagery of Elden Ring with Vyke kneeling before a sword underneath the Elden Ring (literally the background to this site), if you look closely at a full-screen version of it, a little to the right of Vyke on the ground is Jerren, or at least another person wearing his pants... his sword is at an angle so you can't tell if it is a Flamberge, but nonetheless it is a relatively long sword.

Most dps from a summon for radahn but his sign is almost impossible to find

AnonymousKilled radahn, spoke with jerren and exhausted his dialogue at red mane castle and now he’s gone. Tried to find him at witchbane ruins but he’s not there. I also haven’t been able to trigger sellens dialogue that makes her give me the primal stone. All she says is her normal chained up dialogue. Nothing that needs absolution either. Any ideas?

AnonymousSided with this dude since i wasn't really using sorceries, plus he's a cool guy who fought alongside me against Radahn, plus Sellen's fate when you side with her is a horrible one that's worse than death.

Can be killed after siding with him and getting the Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone from him. Will drop the Eccentric Set even then.

AnonymousPeople: *thinks critically about quest choice*
Me: haha bye bye goofy clown man
Probably the best npc to summon for radahn, Alexander is tankier but the Castellon does more damage

AnonymousThe section for his Sellen fight dialogue is wrong, he says "I vow this time to crush both your frame and your primal glintstone." He doesnt say fame.

This guy looks like he wants me to hand it over, that thing.
