Witch-Hunter Jerren is an NPC in Elden Ring. Witch-Hunter Jerren, also known as Castellan Jerren, is a part of the Sorceress Sellen questline. He can also be seen as a herald, making proclamations about the Radahn Festival around Redmane Castle just as the festival is getting prepared to start. He then, initiates the festival. Jerren has the opportunity to fight alongside players as an NPC Summon.

I am Jerren. Foolish old warrior, and witness. Incidentally, do you like a good festival, from time to time?

Witch-Hunter Jerren Questline: How to complete Witch-Hunter Jerren's Quest

In order to proceed with these quests that involve Sorceress Sellen, Starscourge Radahn must be defeated. You can then find Jerren seated at Redmane Castle, north of the Chamber Outside the Plaza Site of Grace. His exact location can be found here on the Elden Ring Map.

If he is not at Redmane Castle, he is likely already at his second location in Witchbane Ruins. Speak to him then you can find him next where you previously found the chained Sorceress Sellen in Witchbane Ruins

If you still cannot locate Jerren in the Witchbane Ruins, you may need to further progress in the Sorceress Sellen questline. At his point you will probably need to bring Sellen's stone to the puppet body in Seluvis' secret basement by the three sister towers in north Liurnia before he will appear with Sellen's body in this location.

The next encounter should be at the Raya Lucaria Academy Library. [Elden Ring Map Link]. You will be given a choice to side with Sellen or Jerren. If you choose to side with Jerren, you will be engaging in combat alongside him against Sellen.

Siding with Sellen

If you side with Sellen and defeat Jerren, his armor set, Eccentric Set is obtained. This includes the Eccentric's HoodEccentric's ArmorEccentric's Manchettes, and Eccentric's Breeches. You can also gain the Glintstone Kris from Sellen as a reward and gain access to Shard Spiral for purchase.

Siding with Jerren

Choose to side with Jerren and you will obtain Sellen's Bell Bearing, and Witch's Glintstone Crown upon the defeat of Sellen. He will also reward you with an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone after speaking with him. You will find him where his summon sign was outside the Grand Library Site of Grace

Dialogue in Elden Ring: Witch-Hunter Jerren

Introduction before the festival

  • Oh, Tarnished, are you? How did you slip inside, with the gate closed? Hmph. No matter. If you can fell one of them, you're a champion, in my book. I am Jerren. Foolish old warrior, and witness. Incidentally, do you like a good festival,  from time to time? Well, it's true, this fortress houses only the vanquished. But when the stars align, we celebrate. A war festival honoring the last battle and death of General Radahn, the mightiest demigod of the Shattering, and bearer of a Great Rune.
  • [I'm not the festive type] Well, you're not much fun, are you, chum? No matter. One day you will see. That true warriors bask in glory at the festival.
  • [About Iji] Well, I haven't heard that name in an age. Then you must serve Princess Ranni? The next time you speak to Iji, tell him this: The festival of Radahn will surely set Ranni's fate into motion. By the by... Is that old fool still hammering out weapons? His enormous frame, cramped in that little place... Bit of a haughty sort. Strange fella, when I knew him. And funny thing, his swords were all blunt as stone. But not one of them decayed when faced with the scarlet rot...
  • Go on, now. This old geezer hasn't any use for you just yet.

After the festival

  • At last, the war festival has ended. Brave champion you have our gratitude. The Celebration was spectacular. General Radahn is surely pleased. Festering with rot, and crippled by madness, all he wanted was an honorable death.
  • Finally, my work is done. I am no longer bound to this fortress. I have a task in mind. Old business you could say. You wouldn't understand. May we meet again if the fates deign it, brave champion.

Festival Proclamation

  • Champions, welcome! The stars have aligned! The festival is nigh! General Radahn, mightiest demigod of the Shattering, awaits you! A celebration of war! The Radahn Festival!
  • Are you good and prepared, young chum? The festival begins!

Small Talk (Witchbane Ruins)

  • Ah, well met. I hardly expected to see the champion of the festival here of all places. You didn't ... know Sellen did you? Well, whatever the case, she's dead now. Just put it behind you. She was known as the graven witch Obsessed by the primeval current, countless sorcerers fell to her hands. The most dangerous mage in the entire history of Raya Lucaria's Academy
  • It is strange through. The woman, she was like a husk, her soul already fled. I suspect Sellen lives on, elsewhere. I'm sure she'll turn up eventually, in another body. A sickening thought, but one that won't stop gnawing at me.

Siding with Jerren, during Sorceress Sellen invasion

  • "Sellen, Graven Witch, enemy of Caria.
I vow this time to crush both your fame and your primal glintstone.
I am Jerren, bringer of your death. Do not forget."

Final

  • My thanks, for the aid given. I heard from Iji that Lady Ranni might have found herself a champion. But I  didn't know he was talking about you. You've helped me fulfil an old promise. This is the least I can do for you. Please, take it.
[Hands you x1 Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone]
  • Well, I must be leaving now. Brave warrior, if the fates deign it.. No, we shall indeed meet again, at the next glorious tourney.
  • Well, I must be leaving now. If the fates deign it, may we meet again, Tarnished.

When attacked

  • Ugh! What's the matter with you? You trying to get revenge?
  • (Combat) Very well. If the Graven Witch put you under her spell, you must be eliminated...
  • (On player kill) Rest now. Alongside the witch's corpse.
  • (On death) You...are a menace... Iji...beware...

cant find him in redmane also he is not in the witchbane ruins. havent done any of the questline. sellen is captured. raddahn is dead selvious is dead. what should i do?

      • Anonymous

Maybe his resemblance to Gael is simply because all of the Lands Between is actually the painted world his niece was going to complete after giving her the blood of the dark soul.

        • Anonymous

Please don't scold me, but I used a glitch to get to kill Radahn early, and then Jerren was sitting in the castle, speaking like the festival hasn't begun yet all the time, so now I can't progress Sellen's quest as he hasn't moved from the castle. Anyone know if there's a way to trigger his dialogue to the one after the festival?

          • Anonymous

Objectively morally correct in his path against Sellen, but she taught me everything I know and I gotta stick with baby mama to the end.

            • Anonymous

Is Jerren a pretender? With the fake beard an all? Feels like someone took the real Jerren's mantle, and donned his fake beard to continue the witch hunting legacy. Or did we accidentally rip off an old man's beard when we looted his head armor.

              • Anonymous

Sellen and Jerren's quests are intertwined. In the Japanese, wouldn't their names be almost identical? Not trying to be racist, but it's a fact that their pronunciation of L's are quite sketchy due to their writing systems.

                • Anonymous

Of course you can side with Jerren for the Ancient Dragon Stone, and then Kill him after you get it for his armor. But this way you dont get the glintstone kris or the spiral shard magic

Does anyone know what happens if you go to Redmane Castle and kill him before getting the festival quest? Who is going to hold the festival?

If you side against sellen, and receive the ancient smithing stone you can then kill him to get his set also ;)

                            Spoilers

You can still respec if you side with Sellen, just go to a grace and reload the library.

Renalla is back in the middle and for some reason Sellen is to the side turned into one of those big face balls. You can also pickup glimstone crown and study. But she sounds like she is in pain. Not sure what happened with the lore

So....I sided with him agains Sellen, talked to him and all, but after reloaded the map he just gone. Can I find him anywhere else or that Eccentric Set is lost forever ?

there lot of missing dialogue in this wiki, especially if you met ranni first and go to jerren before festival started he will have unique dialogue about your connection with iji and ranni and her fate

I'm finding it difficult to choose who to side with, is there really a bad guy in this situation?
It seems sellen was just hunted for seeking more knowledge no?

                                  • Anonymous

I wish there was a witch hunter covenant. Now that sorceries are OP, it'd be fun to hunt inexperienced witches.

I got a different behavior, I talked to him right after defeating Radahn, 80 hours later was doing Sellen's quest and he skipped witchbane ruins, directly to the fight, didn't got to talk to him before the fight

                                      • Anonymous

Dumb character dressed like a clown. If it wasn't for his silly getup, nobody would even remember him since he's basically a nonentity.

If you want to know how to get the armour set if you sided with him but didn't kill him when he was at the grand library you have to go to the end of the Ringed City DLC from DS3 and kill him there.

I'm sorry Jerren, you were a cool ass dude when I met you at the festival, but have you seen what Sellen looks like under her mask? I'll go bros before hoes on my next playthrough homie.

                                            • Anonymous

As for the old promise remark by Jarren,

I suspect it might be that Ranni herself was under the tutelage of Sellen. Prior to losing her husband Rennala as Carian royalty, heard about Sellen who was going about sacrificing her students for pursuit of knowledge, and they called the witch hunter named Jarren to find her body.

He found Sellen however his duty to the master of the castle Redmane, Radhan was more pressing. So when you lay Radhan to rest that task from his shoulders is lifted and is free to dispose of the witch that he had hunted.

It makes sense if the pumpkin head boss was a hired by Jarren to keep the witch hunter at bay and deter any would be adventurer to become her knight in shining armour.

She only has time aplenty due to her belief that no one could kill Radhan. Which is why her next step is one that of hurry and transporting her essence. If push comes to shove, she will easily dispose off the tarnished to be a primeval.

TL;DR : Shes the conflicted genius who wants to be the best with whatever means necessary and in doing so becomes a perverted figure of her beliefs and former self. This can be taken further when she says "even her dullest pupils have a place..." there was no need to say dullest and it'd have still been great!

                                              • Anonymous

Fought this guy today on my sl16 character for Selene's quest, and he is strong af on that level... The strongest NPC I've fought so far.
When he invades he seems to be immune (or at least VERY resistant) to poison and maybe scarlet rot, as I ran out of throwables and bolts before he got affected. And he could almost one shot me...
                                                Sheet was real...

                                                • I progressed the story pretty far before remembering to finish Sellen's quest. Jerren was missing from all locations suggested in the wiki. No worries though...I warped to the Grand Library at Raya Lucaria, and outside the library, both summon signs were visible. I chose the red one (which challenges Sellen, and sides with Jerren) even though I don't recall ever talking to Jerren about Sellen at this point...but whatever...I wanted the Dragon Smithing Stone and even without conspiring or premeditating the murder, this time, I got the stone from Jerren (outside the library after the battle).

Sorry Sellen...at least I helped you last time.

                                                  • Anonymous

I wonder if Jerren will factor into any DLC. His final comment of seeing you at the next tourney could be a little breadcrumb that some DLC is going to happen at the Caelid Arena that's currently not being used - the one guarded by the giant jar. Just speculation.

                                                    • So i killed Jerren on my 1st playthrough, now on my 2nd i killed Sellen, after that i knew i was done with the quests and decided to kill Jerren outside the Grand Library. When he died he said something and at the end he said something like "Iji Beware...", i thought it was interesting and went back to Iji and he wasnt there. Is this because i killed Jerren or does that happen during Rannis quest and its just a coincidence??

                                                      • Anonymous

this quest is bugged. I choose to help sellen fight jerren but both of them dead at the same time. After the fight sellen is alive and well and still give you reward, but after resting at the grace, she transform into giant stone orb:(

                                                        • Anonymous

On my SL1 run did this before festival after meeting Ranni and working under her. Has dialogue about Ranni and Ijji after choosing the dialogue option stating "I Love a Good Festival". Comments about Ijji's swords all oddly being not sharp but that they did not fail in scarlet rot. This likely indicates his personality influencing his smithing while boasting his smithing capabilities despite his quirks.

                                                          • Anonymous

For some reason, I was able to completely skip the step of having to talk to Jiren at Witchbane ruins. I just gave the wife her stone and then I went to the academy straight away and saw her sign to help her.

                                                            • Anonymous

So this means that if you kill witch hunter jerren without ending the festival in redmane, the castle will be stuck in festival mode?

                                                              • Anonymous

if you decide to kill him after defeating sellen, you won't be able to bring him back via celestial dew at church of vows.

                                                                • Anonymous

Besides, what kind of a witch-hunter also uses Sorcery? definetly a walking contradiction, much like Hodrick from DS3. ***The only thing you lose out on by helping Jerren, is a spell and weapon for int builds. that, and getting to see Sellen turn into a [SPOILERS AHEAD] Giant Stone Orb**

                                                                  • Anonymous

Big mistake i made choosing witches over bros.

                                                                      • Anonymous

If this is happening to you, you must go speak with Blaidd in Siofra River Well. He will mention Seluvis who is behind Caria Manor. Speak to him who will mention Sellen in the Waypoint Ruins. Speak to her and she will tell you about Radahn. Tell Blaidd what you have learned and he will tell you to meet him at Redmane Castle to fight Radahn where you can now find the doors opened. Your welcome.

After basically finishing the game and catching up on quests before NG+, if you had him leave Redmane already and returned the primal stone to Sellen, if you can't find him at witchbane ruins then you can just go straight to the grand library step and find either summon signs outside.

                                                                              • Anonymous

I somehow skipped his witchbane ruins dialog.

After killing Radahn I talked to him, including the throne dialog. Afterwards I did Rannis quest and then started Sellens quest. Saved shortly before finding lusats body in the hideout and updated to version 1.3.
After progressing further and putting Sellen in her new body, he is not at witchbane ruins. However, I can now choose whether to aid or challenge Sellen in Raya Lucaria. So apparently I skipped his witchbane ruins dialog.

                                                                                • Anonymous

I've checked Waypoint Ruins, Witchbane Ruins, Redmane Castle Plaza and the hidden passage in the Renna's Rise already multiple times. What am I doing wrong???

                                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                                          • I was able to mention Iji to him when he was at redmane castle. After that Jerren can be mentioned to Iji who has few words about him. This also starts the redmane castle festival.

                                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                                              • Anonymous

After exhausting her dialogue with her new body Jerren was now present in Witchbane ruins having killed her old body. Exhaust his dialogue and then travel to the Raya Lucaria Grand Library doorway by the lift to choose who you wish to side with. Hopefully this helps.

                                                                                                            • I haven't been to hermit village yet and hence haven't proceeded sellen's quest past the first step yet. After talking to jerren in the redmane castle after defeating radahn, he says he will go on a journey, and then left. Now he's nowhere to be found. I assume until I proceed sellen's quest to the step where she tells you to go to witchbane ruins and finish that portion, jerren doesn't show up at witchbane ruins for his portion of the quest. So if jerren has disappeared for you, try to continue sellen's quest.
