Millicent is an NPC in Elden Ring with a quest line that players can complete in order to gain some valuable items. Millicent is a young woman stricken with an incurable case of Scarlet Rot. Gowry will send players to look for her in an attempt to cure her of Scarlet Rot. Progress through her questline in order to unlock her as an NPC Summon Cooperator during specific boss battles.

Millicent can also be encountered as an NPC Invader. She will invade the player in the Swamp of Aeonia at all times of the day. She has light armor and appears to use a Shamshir, but with the Waterfowl Dance skill, the same as Malenia.

I would rather trust you than simply continue to spoil from within.

NPC Summon Boss Fights:

Millicent Questline: How to complete Millicent's Quest

Millicent has a questline related to Gowry, but also appears as an NPC Invader at the Aeonia Swamp. The quest can be completed after reaching the Haligtree Roots site of grace, and can still be completed after defeating Malenia. The quest can be done quickly if the player defeats the bosses or otherwise obtains the quest items before exhausting dialogue.

Questline Objectives:

  • Speak with Gowry in his shack and he will ask for a favor. He wants help to heal a young girl, Millicent, found beyond Sellia, who has been infected with Scarlet Rot. To do this, he will ask you to seek an Unalloyed Gold Needle, which is dropped by Commander O'Neil, located in the Swamp of Aeonia. In return, he will share the secrets of the town of Sellia.
    • Speaking to Gowry and accepting his quest will unlock Polyanna, Adopted Daughter's summon sign, north of O'Neil's battle arena.
  • Give the Unalloyed Gold Needle to Gowry. He'll need some time to repair the needle and will give you Sellia's Secret
    • Warp to a nearby site of grace or quit the game to reload, and he'll give you the repaired needle.
  • Bring the needle to Millicent at the Church of the Plague. You may need to complete the puzzle in Sellia, Town of Sorcery to open the path uphill. Or, coming from Dragonbarrow, jump down a Spirit Spring to the north of the Church.
  • After Millicent uses the needle, rest at the nearby site of grace, then exhaust her dialogue. She will gift you the Prosthesis-Wearer Heirloom. Upon reloading the area, she will have moved to Gowry's shack.
  • Return to Gowry's shack to find him gone, but Millicent there. Exhaust her dialogue. Reload the area, and Millicent will move, and Gowry will return. You can now purchase spells from him.
  • Millicent will now be located just north-northeast of the Erdtree-Gazing Hill site of grace in Altus Plateau, standing near the edge of the cliff. [Map Link]
    • The player will need to go north to The Shaded Castle and retrieve the Valkyrie's Prosthesis, which is found in a chest in a room guarded by a single Cleanrot Knight, on the northwestern edge of the castle. Return to her, and give her the Valkyrie's Prosthesis item to advance her quest.
    • If you want to summon her for the Godskin Apostle fight in Dominula, Windmill Village, you will have to go back to Gowry's Shack and talk to Gowry about giving Milicent the prosthesis. Check your map after the dialogue with Gowry to see that Milicent disappeared from the Erdtree-Gazing Hill site of grace.
  • Go to Dominula, Windmill Village, and defeat the Godskin Apostle. After giving Millicent the Prosthesis, her summon sign will appear at the base of the hill northwest of the Stake of Marika.
  • After defeating the Apostle, rest at the Windmill Heights site of grace, and she will appear next to it. Exhaust her dialogue to continue the quest. [Map Link]
  • Millicent can be summoned to fight the Black Blade Kindred boss in Forbidden Lands, even before defeating the Godskin Apostle.
  • Millicent will move to the Ancient Snow Valley Ruins site of grace in Mountaintops of the Giants. Exhaust her dialogue to continue. [Map link]
    • If Millicent does not appear at the site of grace, try returning to the Windmill Heights again and see if she's there, and if so, exhaust her dialogue there.
  • Millicent will move to the Prayer Room site of grace in Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree. She will not move from this spot until the player has defeated the nearby Lesser Ulcerated Tree Spirit mini-boss. To reach the mini-boss, go to the Drainage Channel site of grace, go west through the doorway, climb up the ladder at the end of the corridor, and go out the doorway on your right at the top. The mini-boss is at the landmass across the gap to the left. To reach it, go up the slope on the right and walk across the tree branch, heading southwest across the gap. [Map link]
  • Once the player has defeated the mini-boss, there will be two summon signs near where the mini-boss used to be. Specifically, on the northwest hill around the lake. The player can either:
  • If the player chose to help Millicent, they can find her near where her summoning sign was, sitting by the rotten pool. Exhaust all of her dialogue, then reload the area. The Unalloyed Gold Needle is on the ground.
  • If you return to Gowry, he will talk about Malenia and Millicent's connection. You will no longer be able to purchase from the Sage.

§Introduction

Church of the Plague, Caelid site of grace icon

( 初対面 )

Ah...Ahh
Nggh... Who's there?
Well, it matters not.

If you are wise,
you will leave,
immediately.

My flesh writhes with scarlet rot.
It is a curse.
Not to be meddled with by man.

You ask that I stab myself with the needle...
To quell the scarlet rot?
But...how?
... Never mind.

I've decided.

I would rather trust you,
than simply continue to spoil from within.

Would you mind...
averting your eyes for a moment?

Well.
That was easier than expected.

But...
why do I feel so...

[ Upon reloading area ]

I...hoped to see you again.
My apologies for when last we met.
I fainted before I could even thank you.

Everything is as you said.
Since inserting the needle,
the scarlet rot has ceased to writhe.

Even the nightmares have abated...

And now,
though I can scarcely believe it myself,
I can move as I please.

It is all thanks to you.
Not that I could every truly repay you,
but I would like you to have this,
by way of thanks.

A token, though it is.

[Prosthesis-Wearer Heirloom]

I'm considering leaving.
On a journey.

With the needle buried in my flesh,
I've started to recall,
but dimly...

My destiny...

My name is Millicent.
I pray fate permits us meet again.

Attacking her after giving her the Unalloyed Gold Needle

  • (Warning) Ugh. Is there something wrong? Please, cease this at once.
  • (Combat) Why are you doing this? Now you've forced my hand.
  • (On player kill) I will not forget what you did for me. But this day marks our farewell.

Oh, hello again.

Something about this place felt familiar to me.
So I decided to pay a visit,
hoping to find someone here.
But I've only found emptiness.

Perhaps before my departure,

I needed someone to say farewell to.

I must focus on my journey,
for which I have you to thank.

I must stay strong.
I must focus on my journey,
for which I have you to thank.

Ah. We meet again.

In truth, it's been smooth sailing,
for me.

The scarlet rot has stilled,
since last we met.

As such, I've been able to continue my journey.

I realise that if I still had my sword arm,
I could have aided you in battle.

Now, I'm tracing the path Malenia took,
after unleashing the power of the scarlet rot,
during her battle with General Radahn,
in the Caelid Wilds.

I should like to meet her,
this vanished woman.

I think she's in the north.
In the lands that lie beyond the Erdtree.

Are you giving me this arm?
I thank you.
I am in your debt, yet again.

I think, if the arm serves well enough,
it might be possible for me to wield a sword again.

If the arm serves well enough,
it might be possible for me to wield a sword again.

Perhaps, then.
I can aid you in battle.

( 風車村ドミヌラ )

Ah, we meet yet again.

The arm you gave me truly is a thing of wonder.
It feels just like my own,
even handling a sword.

Perhaps it is foolish to say this to you of all people,
but I am sure of my skill with the sword.

Thus, I would have you call upon me in battle,
should you ever have the need.
It is the only way that I can express my thanks.

To think we'd meet in such a place...
What could your purpose possibly...

No, I know well enough who you are,
and what I know is good enough for me.

Call upon me again in battle,
should you have the need.

I'm searching for a fort to the north of the ruins.
I heard the master of the fort was given a medallion
that allowed him to visit the Haligtree.

Indeed, I believe that is where Malenia will be found.
The Haligtree is hidden somewhere in these Northern lands.

Again we meet.
I can only surmise our purposes are aligned.

In which case, allow me to explain myself.

I am of Malenia's blood.
But in what capacity I know not.

I could be sister,

daughter,
or an offshoot...

Whatever the case though,

I am certain of a kinship between us.

There is something I must return to Malenia.
The will that was once her own.
The dignity,
the sense of self,
that allowed her to resist the call of the scarlet rot.

The pride she abandoned,
to meet Radahn's measure.

( お姉妹の4人と戦い後 )

Thank you for lending your hand.
Without your help,
I could not have defeated that quartet.

I feel as if I've been in your debt from beginning to end.
Thank you.
With your help,
I was able to live as my own person,
if only in passing.

But this is where things end.
I pause to even tell you, but...
I took out the needle myself.

Tell whoever put you up to this.
That if I am to flower into something other than myself,
I would rather rot into nothingness as I am.

Please, let me pass alone.
The scarlet rot writhes now,
worse than ever.

Soon, I won't be more than a mound of flesh.
Curse-laden.
Untouchable.
I wouldn't want such a thing to bring you harm.

  • Ahh, how could you... Is this your true heart? Was I... was it all...for this?

Millicent Notes & Trivia

FAQ:How do you cure the girl with the Scarlet Rot Elden ring?

In order to cure Millicent from the Scarlet Rot players will need to speak to first speak to Gowry who will be at Gowry's Shack [Map Link], obtain the Unalloyed Gold Needle for him by defeating Commander O'Neil, located in the Swamp of Aeonia and he will repair it. Step by Step Walkthrough

  • Speak with Gowry in his shack and he will ask you to seek an Unalloyed Gold Needle, which is dropped by Commander O'Neil, located in the Swamp of Aeonia. In return, he will share the secrets of the town of Sellia.

To speed up the process, look for to a nearby site of grace or quit the game to reload, and he'll give you the repaired needle. The closest site of grace is nearby just northeast of Gowry's Shack where the Church of the Plague. Return to Gowry to retrieve the needle then take it to Millicent.

From this point onwards Millicent will be cured from scarlet rot and will be free to change Locations. You can follow her full questline here

Millicent Other Notes

  • In combat, Millicent wields a unique version of the Shamshir that has the Waterfowl Dance skill, which is normally only found on the Hand of Malenia. Before she receives the prosthesis, she uses it in her left hand, never two-handing it or doing anything else that would involve her right arm, and she won't use its skill either.
  • When fighting her as an invader in the swamp, it is recommended to use Flame, Cleanse Me or Preserving Boluses to cleanse the Scarlet Rot.
  • The name "Millicent" comes from the old Germanic name Amalasuintha, composed of the words "Amal" which means "work" or "labor" and "Swinth", which means "strong". Alternatively, the French variation, Mélisande, means "brave strength". This fits directly back into Millicent's character, who despite being heavily afflicted with the Scarlet Rot and lacking an arm, is able to travel from Caelid all the way to the Haligtree almost on her own, requiring only some assistance from the player.
  • The items dropped by Invader Millicent in the Swamp of Aeonia may be a reference to other aspects of her lore: The 5 sacramental buds represent Millicent and her 4 sisters, while the rune items she drops are the same as the percentage damage increase of the base Winged Sword Insignia; 3, 5, and 10.

The guide misses the part where you need to go back to Gowry after giving Milicent the prosthesis. Doing so, it triggers her departure to Dominula, and especially her summon mark to fight the Godskin Apostle.

      • Anonymous

I just can't do it. Call me weak all you want but as someone who is typically a big completionist I can bring myself to collect neither Nepheli's puppet or Millicent's prosthesis. They may be digital polygons with fictional dialogue but I can't stab a friend in the back, ok ? But since the DLC will so focused on Miquella it will surely introduce a way to save her life, right ? ... right ?

The tricky part of the last fight is she would be killed quickly if fighting with 2 while you are dealing with the other 2. Being surrounded by 3 or 4 of the sisters can induce her to use waterflow so that she can get some heals. So the fight is easier if you do not rush to help her at the beginning but use some ranged attacks instead to lure a single enemy to you.

            • Anonymous

She's not quite near the summon sign, continue following it round anti clockwise, down the slope from the summon sign, and there she is

Just did the fight with her sisters. It's been a while bit it felt like they fixed the fight, I remember her dying many times before.

I saw her at the windmills and then she appeared at the prayer room in the haligtree, so I never saw her on the mountain. You can probably skip that step.

"Thanks for your help", she said.
She was slaughtering the four sisters just fine when I arrived. I didn't have to lift a finger.

                    • Anonymous

Millicent does not need to move to Windmill Village to be summoned for the Black Blade Kindred fight, for some reason.

                      • I want her sword badly for a lore build. Her sword is a shamshir the the heavy attack of the flowing curved sword as well as waterfowl dance. As far as player npcs go, she gets special permission to bend the rules and I'm jealous.

                        • Can someone add a step to mention visiting Gowry after giving her Valkyrie’s Prosthesis? I almost missed getting Pest Threads from Gowry because I advanced her quest too fast. Had to get it by killing him and taking his Bell to the Twin Husk. Did miss the Desperate Prayer gesture because you can only get it by buying Pest Threads directly from him.

Do you still get Millicent's Prosthesis if you kill her after helping her during the invasion? Or do you just get a sad final voice line?

Millicent's story is so very sad, I just wanted to save her, but she wanted to be able to die as herself.
                              Screw Gowry. ):<

                              • Anonymous

                                First; Basically,

If you want Rotten Winged Sword Insignia, Miquella's Needle and\or Malenia's somber, then assist her.

If you want just Millicent's Prosthesis and\or Pest Threads, then kill her in Windmill Village. Technically, you don't need to kill her to get PT, but consider that this way you'll be able to get flock's canvas talisman alongside the incantation.

If you want just Prosthesis-Wearer Heirloom and\or Flock's Canvas Talisman, then start the quest, provide the needle, and ROCK. Empty her dialogue and kill her, that is, then go to Gowry and sent him right after her.

Now, Second; If you intend to assist her, then. You see, while Millicent may mash L2 like her life depends on it(it does) and thus be of use, more often than not she's a paper thin dead weight, and because of that more often than not what is supposed to be a 2v4 turns into a 1v4. What I'm saying is, hope for the best, prepare for the worst. Going into the battle against the sisters, hope that Millicent will spam WFD, but never rely on her doing that.

Third; If you intend going to NG+, kill her in Windmill to get MP and stack it with normal Winged Sword Insignia to maximize damage output before NG+.
If you don't intend going to NG+, kill her in Windmill to get MP and stack it with normal Winged Sword Insignia to maximize damage output.
If you are doing a roleplay build with a character that wouldn't kill Millicent or a build that may benefit from consecutive attack boost, but doesn't focuses on them enough to justify spending two talisman slots to boost them, then get rotten insignia. Or alternatively, for the latter case, kill her in Windmill to get MP and use it as a dump talisman instead if you benefit from additional dexterity more than from a higher consecutive attack boost.

Overally, RWSI is just almost never worth getting over the prosthesis. MP stacks with normal WSI, can be obtained much earlier, requires you to just get through the Shaded Castle and +5 dex can let you take a few levels away from dex and put them into other stats instead. RWSI, while gives a higher attack boost, is a direct upgrade to WSI(and thus cannot be stacked with it), cannot be obtained until the Haligtree, requires you to come in contact with Ulcerated Tree Spirit & win a 2(1)v4 and doesn't gives you any dex. The only reasons to pick it is if you either already have MP, need a dump talisman to fill up an empty pouch(and even in that case MP is sometimes better) or put roleplay above optimization.

Lots of extremely build specific "advice" for the sisters fight but it's as simple as aggressively ganging up on whomever Millicent is already attacking. Fight gank with gank, so to speak.

                                  • Anonymous

If you're struggling against the sisters, you can spam Magic Glintstone Blade (don't even need to be an Int character since the spell requirement is low) followed with jump attack, since the Magic Glintstone Blade will force them to roll.

Rejection kinda works but it needs positioning and lucky poise.

killing her is actually the decent thing to do. i wonder why there is no other interlocking reality-threads to her, since she actually is the one to bloom for the pests to enjoy weak hosts.

Missed the fight with her as an invader. I'm glad that there is no unique reward for defeating her, about 8000 runes and that's it.

                                        • Anonymous

Really curious as to whether or not people (especially completionists) decide to kill her first playthrough or to help her out instead.

Helping her basically drops a dupe of an already existing talisman (that you can't equip along the other existing one, so it feels redundant in that regard), but it does also drop (well...with a little bit of extra work) the Miquella needle - which is obviously a big help if you want to avoid the Frenzy ending after making a mistake (importanrt to note it doesn't carry to NG+).

I feel like it's more beneficial to kill her midway through her quest to get the Prosthesis Talisman. And then on NG+ to help her out/complete the quest entirely to get the dupe talisman and Miquella's needle - just for completion purposes. But I also realize she is a pretty popular NPC that peoply probably get really attached to and want to save everytime. So I wonder...

I'm guessing Miyazaki's vision for this game was to have people figure things out accidentally and then tell eachother by leaving messages. The chance of people completing even one NPC questline during a playthrough are depressingly slim, even if you're actively trying. Alexander, Sellen, Millicent and Nepheli are way too obscure.

if anyone is having a tough time with the 4 sister BS, esp as a melee character, just AOE spam and you win really easily. I used Scarlet Aeonia (which probably isnt the best option) and after 2 casts 2/4 were dead and milicent finished off the other 2 with waterfowl . Just make sure you have enough health to tank some hits to get whatever AOE you have off

I honestly don't understand how anybody can possibly be expected to complete this questline without the use of a wiki. Even if you're the most compulsive of completionists, the fact that she keeps appearing in places it's possible you've already been to long ago with no indication and the fact that you constantly have to set off flags by backtracking means that without literally knowing what bizarre task the game wants you to complete, you could visit everywhere in the world twice and barely make any progress. Why Erdtree-gazing hill of all places? How the hell is anybody supposed to know that to unlock the final stage of the quest you have to kill a giant eel made of roots that randomly ambushes you on a side path with nothing to do with anything just because Fromsoft thought it was a cool arena and wanted to reuse it? Especially since you've already fought half a dozen of those eels by now and they always drop the same item you're maxxed out on, heck, the NEXT time you see those things it's three at a time in Leyndell and you actually are supposed to skip them.

For the fight against the sisters, I stepped back and realized I could build around it fairly easily. Just use anything with a lot of aoe and range. I used twin katanas and flame of the fell gods. The big fireball just slowly homes in while Millicent and I just went HAM with lots of aoe slashes, getting lots of bleed, and then they basically had no answer for the giant explosion. Anything similar should work. Just gotta either stay mobile and/or be able to bulldoze right through them.

They are really annoying if you're not prepared, though.

She can also be summoned at Dragon Tree Sentinel fight before the Capital Rampart sight of grace. Not sure who else was aware.

Stormcaller makes the 4 NPC invasion trivial. Keep close to Millicent (don't let them 2v1 her or she will die) and when they try to gank you, spam Stormcaller. I managed to catch 3 of them at once and stun lock them to death.

If you're helping Millicent, the sister's fight is more badly designed RNG garbage. it's 4 sisters, if they all gun for you you're dead. Your best bet is to go near Millicent so she can at least take some off of you.

I hate game designers who think RNG is design...

I'd also argue that having her die in either case is also pretty lazy.

Do any of y'all know what the heck i should do? i need to kill her in windmill village for the talisman she drops.

Both end up rejecting/eliminating their curses despite the god-like benefits it gives them, in direct opposition to their fathers' wishes.

Millicent’s dead in a cloud of rot but there's no needle to pick up, after multiple reloads and time passed at the grace. Is this a known thing that can happen?

I left a message: try prawn, in other words try incantation. Hope folks will understand that. Two, even if you die, if killing finishes her sisters as you're dying... that is enough to succeed and get the reward.

On my second playthrough of Elden Ring, upon seeing Gowry, I murdered him on sight. I have no idea what's going to happen with the quest now, but, **** him. I'm sorry, Miliicent.

                                                                                                                • Anonymous

I’m confused at the ending it just seems stupid to me. Millicent undertook this whole journey just to help Malenia and then when she is meters away from her goal she just talks some ****ing nonsense about not being herself anymore and commits sudoku. Did I like miss the part where that needle was actually hurting her? Because if not this is a really **** writing

                                                                                                                  • Anonymous

I saw here summon sign, unless it was a person larping her, at Malenia's fight, I wasn't ready to fight her yet in my game, so I left. Then I went and killed the beast at the scarlet rot pool and helped her in the fight with the sisters successfully. Then I realized I might have screwed myself and sure enough the summon sign wasn't there anymore.

When she moves to the Prayer room in the Haligtree area, make it to outside the Malenia boss fight and check for her sign before defeating that beast in the scarlet rot pool area. She said previously she wanted to go to Malenia, but the guide never states summoning her to the fight. If you kill the beast and help her or fight her, you might lose the ability to summon her to the Malenia fight.

Again, I never actually summoned her, it is possible it was a role player character, the sign was next to the summoning pool, but it was square in the middle of the hall facing directly to the boss, same name, same appearance. Kicking myself right now.

                                                                                                                    • Anonymous

Hot advise if you're having a hard time with helping Millicent against her sisters: right after you spawn in run towards Millicent. Try to stay close to her, because even if the sisters are ganging up on you when Millicent uses waterfowl dance it just *shreds* through everyone close to her. I tried a few times to draw them away from her, but it always ended up with them ganging up on me (which even in late game is rough because they hit hard and fast), but don't worry that they're going to kill her too fast, she's a big girl who slays

                                                                                                                      • It seems the cliff of the area that fight the sisters are protected by invisible wall as of 1.08, as I tried to push one of the sisters off the edge but only got her stuck in a falling animation without actually falling from the cliff.

This could either mean that we chopped her arm off when we fought her, or the rot made her arm weak enough to break apart. If we did chopped it off, then she must have forgotten about the fight we had due to her rotting sickness.
