Omen is a type of Monster Enemy in Elden Ring. Omen are curse-born, ogre-like beings that favor using large and heavy weapons such as Greatswords or Greataxes. They are normally slow moving and can often be found sleeping or otherwise distracted. Omen will, however, move surprisingly fast and erupt with great ferocity when provoked, jumping into battle with multiple wide swings and attacks.
Omen born to commoners often have their horns excised (cut off), generally ending in the child's death, while Omen born to Nobility are allowed to retain their gnarled horns, but are hidden away underground to live in obscurity.
Elden Ring Omen Locations
Where to Find Omen:
- Stormveil Castle
- You can find the Omen at the heavily guarded courtyard of the castle. The nearest checkpoint is the Liftside Chamber Site of Grace.
- Cliffbottom Catacombs
- Altus Plateau
- There is one near the end of Unsightly Catacombs.
- Minor Erdtree (Capital Outskirts) guarding Twiggy Cracked Tear and Crimson Crystal Tear. This Omen can use Fia's Mist, just like the Commoners accompanying it. The Commoners also all wear a small face shroud, suggesting a relationship to Deathbed Companions, or perhaps Fia herself.
- Auriza Hero's Grave
- Subterranean Shunning-Grounds
- Capital Outskirts: Two Omens appear as the field boss Fell Twins.
Elden Ring Omen Combat information
- Health: 1155 - 6539 HP
- Poise: 65
- Deals Slash Damage
Absorptions
- Phy (Standard): 0
- Phy (Slash): -11
- Phy (Strike): 0
- Phy (Pierce): 0
The absorption numbers are the % of your damage that gets blocked. For example if an absorption is 60, 40% of that damage by that type will go through and 60% is absorbed. Bigger number = less damage. An absorption of 100 means no damage goes through, and a resistance of -100 mean the enemy takes 2x damage from that source. 0 means damage goes pretty much as is.
Resistances
- Poison: 227 - 250
- Scarlet Rot: 227 - 250
- Hemorrhage: 227 - 250
- Frostbite: 227 - 250
The resistance numbers are the buildup amount to trigger it. For example, if a resistance is 100 you must deal 100 points of whatever aux buildup to trigger it. Note that these go down over time, and increase each time the effect procs.

Omen Notes & Tips
- One of the few enemies that are attracted to Shadow Bait.
- Sleeping Omen can sometimes be found in the Altus Plateau. They appear to be suffering from nightmares, convulsing and writhing around in their sleep.
- There are two variants, those with cut horns, and those with uncut horns, and each variant can carry either an Omen Cleaver or a Warped Axe. The uncut horn variant can summon wraiths and have some moves that have black-and-gold cursed flames, like the Revenants and Wraith Callers.
- Omenkillers may have been created to cull the Omen population. The Omensmirk Mask are said to be in imitation of the evil spirits in the Omen’s nightmares.
- A shield with the Barricade Shield skill will cause the Omen to recoil when hitting the shield, allowing a risk free guard counter.

of all the enemies the game tries and fails to make you feel bad for in lore, these guys are the sole exception with the existence of omenkillers, the ones in altus having nightmares and being able to barley sleep, most having their horns excised which usually kills them and the one in front of the grave that has the omen bairn :(

Don't get the hate, these guys look really cool and have such a cool moveset. One of my favorite enemies by far.
- Anonymous
Only thing I've gotta say is...why does the Axe one have hitstrings longer than some Marvel vs Capcom combos?
- Anonymous
got killed by one because he hyper armored my giant hunt
i just love this broken garbage of a game
- Anonymous
There's not much Bloodborne in Elden Ring, but I wonder if these guys are based on BB's Executioners. Similar proportions, and possibly a similar somersault attack?
- Anonymous
these enemies are like everything I don't like about Dark Souls 3's enemy design. Big, tanky, unnaturally fast, random attack chains and they have swooping ballerina slashes with deceptively long range and they drain your stamina really fast on block. it's fine if they're sparce but the subterranian shaming grounds and leyendel catacombs are infested with them, at least give them less HP
- Anonymous
Why do they have SO MANY hp? Salp a health bar on the screen and they can just be a catacombs boss with no problem.
- Anonymous
I hope we can see them absolutely wreck Golden Knights. Their lore is very sad
- Anonymous
Scarlet rot seems to heal these guys?
Was Testing Powestanced Rotten Staffs in Underground Roadside, Leyndell and their HP was ticking up after being inflicted with Scarlet Rot.
As bullshit as their actual resistances are to me the best ways to deal with them were bleed + frost procs. I used a powerstanced curved sword build, other being frost and other being bleed. Spamming jumping attacks builds up the procs fast and the procs stun it.
Other option would be high poise ashes of war such as lion claw.
- Anonymous
thank god they have weapons. If they were just kickboxing, theyd be really op i think
- Anonymous
My last comment got deleted somehow but I'll repeat it: try whips on the omen if you're having trouble with them. I mostly used urumi but it poise breaks them consistently (barring hyperarmored attacks) so you can stop most attacks and control the fight.
- Anonymous
Dexbros, try using whips against these guys. I've only tried out the urumi and normal whip so far but they poise break nearly everything they do apart from their hyperarmor moves. Having an Ash like Storm Stomp so you can poise break attacks when they get a bit too close and use the stagger window to get distance helps too. You can poise break them out of their grab wind up with whips or storm stomp, roll at them during a breath attack and storm stomp them out of their next breath attack. Group fights are still iffy but whips trivialize them 1v1.

As others have said, easiest way to kill literally any version of these including the duo boss fight is to put Lion's Claw on a weapon and chain them to oblivion. You can get this ash very early, and if you don't run a strike weapon as your primary then you probably have a hammer or flail lying around for stone enemies and this goes great with those weapons. Heck you may want it for your primary weapon anyways, Lion's Claw is a pretty good ash all around. Personally went from "WTF THESE DUDES ARE CRAZY" to "Wow very ded much enjoy" based solely on that ash.
- Anonymous
One of my favorite enemies. Very reminiscent of the Herald Legion Knights. But has some moves from DarkWraiths too (Their kicks)
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
If you have the Dex for it, I find that the best way to deal with these guys is to run Morgott's Cursed Sword in your primary hand and another large weapon in your secondary hand. Using the weapon skill a few times should be enough to poise-break them without taking more than one hit of damage, sometimes they bleed but we're going for poise-break at minimum, trust me they'll bleed one way or another. Once they're down simply jump attack and that should keep them stun locked until they die.
I understand that people here see dex and think "cringe" but with enemies like these the best way to kill them before they kill you is to attack as hard and as fast as possible.
- Anonymous
Fell like I die to the ones in the sewers more than any boss
- Anonymous
What is with the grab attack? They can grab you OUT OF A ROLL. Mid roll I get grabbed and there goes 80% of my health, broken as hell enemy to be paced as frequently as a 1k hp trash mob plus their hyperarmor. Isn't staggering or rolling the ONLY way to avoid a grab since you can't block? From needs to get it together.

Have you noticed that in Altus Plateau a couple of them are cloaked and can cast Death Mist?
One is located below the lesser Erdtree in the Capital Outskirts, the other one is in Auriza Tomb.
The latter is located in a secluded room, guarding a crucible talisman and apparently praying at the feet of a statue of a woman wielding a spear entwined with a vine.
I wonder who is the woman, and why those cloaked Omens can even cast such incantations...

So these guys are born to normal humans and just happen to be unlucky? And then the parents just kill them off? Wtf?

These guys can be annoying to fight in the Shunning Grounds with the usual glinstone pebbles and comets because those sorceries don't stagger them, but sorceries like Rock Sling, Carian Greatsword, Carian Piercer, Magma Shot, etc can stagger them as long as they aren't in one of their hyperarmor animations. Carian Piercer is especially good, fully charged it knocks omens on their ass and can usually keep them in a loop as long as the player has stamina and fp.
- Anonymous
I never actually looked at them before, but the Omen's covered in horns are...really hard to look at. From always has one design that just makes your stomach churn and that's it.
- Anonymous
lol Dante254 really goes about reply to everyone about the same ****, bro get a life
- Anonymous
I wouldn't hate these as much if there weren't so many of them.
- Anonymous
I used to have a huge problem with these guys in the sewers when I was running fist weapons. Then I figured out that they are a joke if you set up Giant Hunt on a great sword, because you can surprise attack them, knock them over, then break their stance with a charged heavy as they're getting up to break their stance for the crit. The Underground Roadside is now my weapons testing area to see how the scaling on my weapons is doing.
- Anonymous
Underground Roadside adds so much replay value to this game. So fun to spar with my Omen buddies down there. Perfect for testing builds because they can take hits and will actually apply pressure to you. Praise the horns

The 7 Omens by Underground Roadside are great for rune farming.

Braggart's Roar works well with them. Alternately, get 101 poise to avoid being interrupted too often.

INT build who prefers to stay away from Omens in sewers can try Night Maiden's Mist, high FP cost but works great if you could lure them over together.
Or just Unseen Form and walk around.

Rat meat must be really tasty in the sewers of the Lands Between because every single omen in this game except Morgott and Mohg are fat as Hell.

The Omen in the sewers are very high-level. Super tanky with a variety of attacks in a confined area. But they also are big chunks where your attacks generally don’t miss so you can get a very good sense of your build, including consecutive hits effects. As a result, this is the best place to test builds because there are three of them and if you die, which is to be expected, you can easily recover your runes. If you find a build that generally beats them, it will be probably be amazing in the real world. Just don’t get discouraged with a build until you test it in the real world.
- Anonymous
Did you know that Omens except for Morgott have 3 fingers?
This is because 3 fingers is seen as a bad omen in elden ring.
From the Four Toed Fowl Foot description: “In the Lands Between, having three digits is seen as a bad omen.”
Morgott has 4 fingers however because he rejects his omen nature.
- Anonymous
Omens seem to have a connection with phantoms. Omens (and the Omen Set) can summon spirits like the Wraith Calling Bell. Morgot can posses people like that time in the Altus Plateau. Both he and Mohg made illusions in our first encounter of them (Stormvale and the Subterranean shunning-grounds respectively) Morgott summon yellow objects to fight with and ghostly throne in his second cutscene, which look like the shading of the phantom tree, Godfrey's Golden Shade, and when we're summoned with the white cipher ring.

Nice telegraphed attacks with long delays, Morgott Jr.
Would be a shame if I had a buckler equipped
And a Misericorde
Haha

Things to use against them:
Wraith Calling Bell
Lion’s Claw
Giant Hunt
Prayerful Strike
Taker’s Flames
Bewitching Branch
Nebula
Ghostflame Ignition
Moonlight Greatsword
Mists of Slumber
Sleep status
Frost status
Bleed status
Parrying
Guard Countering

Greatbow stunlocks these at range, blasts them off their feet. By the time they get up, you have another arrow ready. Though if they are close enough to start an attack animation they can sometimes poise through it.

- Anonymous
To everyone complaining about how difficult they can be.
Spam Wave of Gold from the Sacred Relic Sword. It knocks them back, and can be spammed enough to kill them, even if you run out of stamina. Spam til out of stamina/FP and then run away until recovered, then spam again.
- Anonymous
Sacred blade + holy scorpion charm on the great stars is great for these guys
- Anonymous
Sorry but how can you deal with these things with dex build. Just how? They have 8 consecutive attack and the ones in the city has holy breath after the frekin 8 attack combo. They have more health and poise than bosses in the city. I just dont understand this shitty design. This is not fair or fun. This is just bullshit.
- Anonymous
Add that they can be put to sleep and responses to shadow baited
I just defeated the three ogres in the sewer... It only took me all my flasks and my mental health (:
- Anonymous
I'm convinced FromSoft can no longer design fair enemies. These guys have the entire kit and their only weakness is spamming jumping attacks over and over. In order of most annoying, they have high health, high damage, fast swings, a gap-closer, two different grab attacks, a six swing combo, a ranged attack, and can dodge projectiles.
- Anonymous
these enemies are literally impossible to fight and anyone who says otherwise is lying, just skip them; there is no gap in their attack patterns that you can use to attack them even with a fast weapon like a dagger
- Anonymous
These things are so god damned annoying. Infinite combos that deal ABSURD chunks of damage with even their "light" attacks. The only hope of beating them without wanting to rip your teeth out is ranged cheese or stunlock.
- Anonymous
I enjoy fighting them by dodging parrying early game, but the ones at the sewers do a lot more damage and can combo kill you if you make a mistake.
Even the Crucible Knight at Deeproot didn't have so much damage output and allowed me to make a few more mistakes and survive.
They kinda force you to play more passive by being a turtle or stun lock them with colossals, which is not as satisfying as dodging and parrying.
- Anonymous
never ending combos and boss-level health bars, better just run past them

Tanky, hard hitting bastards. I prefer parrying them, but a cheesy AoW works just as well. Someone recommended Lion's Claw, and I agree, it's good against them.

It's kinda sad the way the sleeping ones twitch and whimper in their sleep.

My second playthrough with the Meteoric Ore Blade after my first playthrough where i used greatswords and colossal swords really made me understand why people hate these big crackhead ogre douchebags, the way they can poise through lighter weapons outside of charged heavy attacks and jump attacks, combined with how ridiculously fast and aggressive they are for how tanky and damaging they are, like they just don't ****ing stop attacking to the point that it feels like it's hard to get more than one hit on them without them comboing you or smacking a huge chunk of your health away instantly, these chonky heavy looking ogres have no right having agility and speed comparable to a master shinobi on top of being really tanky and damaging and ridiculously aggressive, just screw these phat phucks, they are extremely annoying without a heavy weapon that can consistently stagger them.
me in first playthrough with double greatswords: i don't see why everyone complains about these guys, they're easy to stunlock
me in second playthrough with single curved sword: mommy help me

I'm a prophet and also a confirmed chicken. In SubT, I figured out those big brutes do not climb ladders. Stealth to the ladder of the wooden platform to the right of the grace room and quickly climb. You'll aggro the nearest one, and he'll be at your heels, so don't daddle. From up there, I blast the omenkiller with the fire eye zapper spell or black fire. You can lure the furthest ones from the platform using the little angry spirit bell (the range of that thing is phenomenal), and also zap them away. It's a little long, but perfect for a scaredy cat like me! I bet this works with bows too.

The strategy I’ve come up with these guys for a strength build is to come up on them, get the sneak attack if you can, if not no big deal.
1) Lion’s Claw, pancakes them.
2) Back up a few steps while waiting about three seconds, then Lion’s Claw again. This should break their stance and leave them open to the critical.
3) When they fall, three seconds wait again but *make sure your lock-on is clicked again, the critical usually clears it* and then
4) Lion’s Claw one more time for the finish.
If timed correctly, they never even get a move off.

INT builds can use Wing of Astel WA on them. You get a riposte every 2 hits. You can also chain the WA continuously until they're dead after the first poisebreak, does good damage.
- Anonymous
The sewer variants of these dudes would not be anywhere near as much of a pain if it wasn't for the fact that they can just activate super armor at will and ignore attacks that would normally ragdoll them on, and if there weren't so many of them so close together, 1on1 they are not that bad if you're aggressive since they are not too hard to stagger, but multiple at once are a massive pain to deal with, especially with their random super armor, atleast you can run past most of these things.

The comically exaggerated WWE choke slam these guys do when they grab someone are weirdly funny provided your not on the receiving end of it.

I used to be like you... I hated these guys almost as much as the Creeper hands... But I got myself a couple colossal weapons: Giant's Crusher & Golem's Halberd both +20ish. Power stance them, run up on them & jump attack them with L1/LB. It breaks poise 95% of the time. Followed by either a Lion's Claw AoW or another jumping L1 will give you a riposte... don't. Waste of time.
Just jump attack 3 times then 1 or 2 regular L1s once they're knocked down & they're dead. A fun little farm of 7 if you've got both gates open in the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds.
- Anonymous
To anyone on a high-strength build or not confident with parries, here’s my recommendation as someone who farms them for runes for fun lol.
Guard counters with a decently heavy weapon will put them in riposte very easily, just make sure your stability/Boost is decent, 60-70. 2 counters with my Giant Crusher immediately puts them into Riposte, though results will vary depending on your weapon’s stamina damage and the drain from blocking attacks. Jump heavies are a nice fill in if you have the speed or as a wakeup.
If you have the option for ailments, it should help somewhat if you utilise lighter weapons.
Finally, if you can stagger or backstab the full-horned boys out of the AoE comfortably (a jump heavy does it for me), do so. The Omen Bairn attack they do boosts attack and resistance so the fight’ll only get harder, not to mention the addition of Holy Chip Damage.
Stay safe and happy Omen Slaying.

I think this needs to mention the death fire, or whatever its called, the fully horned omen can use against the player. they have a few different options, they sort of explode causing a close range AoE, they can buff their weapons with it, they have a breath attack that casts a wide stream of fire towards the player and they have an attack similar to one of the rancor spells where fiery skulls home in on you.

The dudes in SubT Shunning Gs seem to have 5933 HP, tested with Night Mist

Apparently, using those guys in Subterranean Shunning Grounds as training dummies/test subjects for my new weapons/builds/incants was not the best idea...

Aspect of the Crucible spells (horn, tails) absolutely destroy these guys. You can fling them around like footballs. Cleared the Leyndell underground of these guys with ease.

It's interesting how these guys have really Holy resistance. Could it have something to do with their ties to the primordial Crucible?
