Magic Glintblade is a Sorcery in Elden Ring. Magic Glintblade spell creates a sigil that will create a glintblade that targets nearby enemies. Updated to Patch 1.07.

An old sorcery of the Carian Royal Family.

Creates a sigil overhead, from which an enemy-seeking glintblade appears after a brief delay. This sorcery can be used while in motion. Charging increases the delay.

Said to be the prototype of the sword-phalanx sorceries wielded by royal enchanted knights.

Where to find Magic Glintblade

Elden Ring Magic Glintblade Guide

  • Boosted by Carian Glintblade Staff.
  • Stamina Cost: 22.
  • Deals (Sorcery Scaling x 1.82) Magic Damage uncharged and (Sorcery Scaling x 2.30) when charged
  • Holding the input to cast Magic Glintblade will increase the damage. However, this both increases the initial casting time, as well as the time it takes for the spell to fire.
  • A full charged cast can be followed up by a cast without a charge and they will hit at roughly the same time.
  • Magic Glintblade can be very useful to cheese many types of ranged enemies. Most enemies will fire their projectiles for center mass. This sorcery, however, fires from above the caster. This allows you to cast over barriers that can block enemy projectiles while not impeding your own, such as guard rails, barricades, and walls.
  • The stamina cost for casting Magic Glintblade is applied at the time of the initial cast, but it won't begin costing stamina if you cast it several times in a row before entering combat. You can take advantage of this to rapidly queue up several without issue.
  • This spell is a suitable alternative to Ambush Shard for dealing with shielded enemies, particularly those that move slowly. Queuing up one or more of the spells and then rotating positions around the target will cause them to turn and expose their back.
  • Back-pedaling is also effective for some speedier enemies, as they will generally move beyond the sigil that will release the glintblade and be hit in the back.
  • Magic Glintblade is excellent for killing NPC Invaders and other enemies that dodge, because they dodge when the spell finishes casting and not when the blade fires, and usually get hit by the spell.
  • Note: As of Patch 1.07, Poise damage, Attack power, and Stamina Attack Power against guarded enemies when charged has been Increased.

A great use for this sorcery against shield enemies is to cast this a couple times and then reposition behind them so that they face their back to the spell.

I really like this spell, it's so versatile. Enemies don't have the brains to deal with it, and in PvP, pop one of these down and more often than not they are forced to spam roll because they have no idea when it's going to fire, AND you can charge it to vary the delay to keep them on their toes. Plus, it's very FP efficient!

This into Star Shower is a very strong pairing. If they try to simply strafe my Glintblade, Star Shower will eat them up. If they dodge into Star Shower to avoid it, they might just eat the Glintblade on recovery.

Favorite spell, hands down. Since it can be charged, can be used to charge in with weapons or other sorceryies such as greatblade phalanx to do a withering barrage of hit and run attacks with weapons. Biggest drawback of it is that it eats a sizable amount of stamina and mana early on, so glintstone is better early.

The charged version is delayed for longer. With a little practice, you can cast one charged, wait a moment, then cast one uncharged, and both will fire simultaneously.

Kind of funny to see all the comments on how great this is. Yet I'm sitting here now trying to hit a Tree Sentinel patrolling and it misses him almost every time.

Also, another spell that seems to have no good way to tell whether your target is in range or not (and doesn't seem consistent)

Uncharged deals less damage (MV = 1.82*incant) than Great Glintstone Shard (2.11*incant), fully charged (2.30*incant) deals more damage than GGS. However, if you're using the relevant Carian staff, uncharged (2.093*incant) deals almost the exact same damage as GGS, and charged deals way more (2.645*incant). Numbers sourced from the motion value spreadsheet, which Google will readily show you.

I love how literally no one ever uses this to force a enemy to choose getting hit by this or a sword swing.

Malenia's Water Fowl dance can be baited out with projectiles like throwing knives or fan daggers while you're at a safe distance, this spell I would argue is way better at this job. If an enemy walks into Glintblade before it even fires they'll still take full damage so what you can do is to make a conga line of these Glintblades from a safe distance and when Malenia starts chasing after you with water fowl dance just line her up with the blades in a straight line and she will easily face tank 2k Damage while all you're doing is running away. very neat 10/10 spell that ****s with her input reading AI.

Currently doing a mage build - and this basically carried me in MANY situations. It´s versatile, strong enough, can be used as burst-damage before even entering combat (one can deplete their entire FP in this state, and machine gun the spell at the enemy while still having the stamina to roll away); and most important: it´s delayed. The delay will catch every single enemy off-guard, wether human-like or monster: really throwing Elden Ring back at Elden Ring in a way, lol.

Okay, so I did some testing with this, and terra magica, and the results are somewhat disappointing but interesting.

With 25 Int and a +7 carian glintstone staff, a fully charged magic glintblade does 297 damage. When standing inside terra magica from cast-firing, the same charged shot does 401 damage.

Then I tried casting a fully charged projectile while inside the terra magica, and stepping outside before it goes off, resulting in the base 297 damage. The opposite is true as well, meaning if you cast outside the magica and step into it before it goes off, you get the buffed 401 damage.

This means that any damage buffs are not calculated/applied when the spell is cast, but when the blade actually finishes charging up. This is interesting and disappointing since you can't frontload tons of damage by casting in the terra magica, then running away to either dodge or engage close-up. But, you can cast the spell, then try to make your way to the terra magica before it goes off, allowing for an easier mid-combat buff. While the first example is probably more useful, the second is interesting and could be fun to try and pull off.

I only tried this with magic glintblade, so idk how this knowledge could be applied to other spells, but it could be fun to find out. Cheers!

                          • How does Terra Magica work with this spell? Do the blades still deal increased damage if you charge the spell within the circle and then leave it before impact? What about charging the spell outside the circle and then running into it before the blade hits?

                            • Anonymous

If you're playing a hybrid STR/INT or DEX/INT mage character that isn't afraid to to get into melee combat, you have three practical (meaning: doesn't require very high INT stat investment and/or dual-wielding staffs) options. A Cold builds that wears the Snow Witch Hat and mains Glintstone Icecrag, a spellblade build that wields the Carian Glintstone Staff in the right hand and mains Carian Slicer, or a glintblade build that wields the Carian Glintblade Staff and mains this.

Sure, Magic Glintblade isn't as flashy as nuking things with Meteorite or Comet Azur or whatever, but damned if it isn't effective. On my mid-level co-op build against most bosses I set up with Terra Magicka, then charge five or more of these out in succession while the host or another summon distracts the boss. You won't draw the boss's aggro until the blades start hitting their target, letting you front-load a big chunk of damage at a very efficient rate in terms of FP. 35 INT, Godfrey Icon, a boost from the flask, and a +7 Carian Glintblade Staff will consistently bring the fatty half of Godskin Duo down to half health before he even starts to respond to you.

In PvP this spell is also great because it's tricky to dodge due to how good the tracking is and how delayed it is, giving you space to cast Greatblade Phalanx or whatever.

During area exploration this spell is great because you can stack casts from outside of most enemies' aggro range, letting you preload a lot of damage.

Just a good spell all around.

Best spell lmao. I can't ****ing believe I roll-catch(more like evade-catch) Malenia every single time. Thank god someone actually either intentionally or not make a spell that goes through Miyazaki's absolute input reading AI.

An interesting interaction I noticed, if you are on horseback and fire a chain of (at least) 2 Magic Glintblades followed by a Glintstone Comet, 2 Comets will be cast simultaneously (i.e. double FP cost, double stamina cost, double damage). This is probably an unintended interaction, but it definitely made the rotting crow enemies much easier to deal with.

                                    > Cast spell

                                    > Boss dodges immediately

                                    > 5 seconds later, the glintblade actually starts

                                    > Boss walks right into it

10/10 input reading. Thank you, Miyazaki, very cool.

A very welcome cornerstone of any budding sorcerer's toolkit.
The many foes that lurk in the Lands Between are all very small-minded, and react to seeing you cast Magic Glintblade instead of when the blade actually flies out.
Your fellow Tarnished are not so dull, but this spell can still be useful to put pressure on them while you attack with the rest of your arsenal.

One of the best cheap fp sorceries out there. Due to so many enemies and bosses dodging spells when they are cast, as long as the enemy doesnt move ridiculously fast, casting this spell will cause the boss to dodge, then get hit when the spell actually moves. One of the most reliably hitting sorceries.

                                        • Anonymous

Not a general purpose workhorse spell, since Great Glintstone Shard does more damage for the same cost, but there are a lot of situations where it's useful. You can hide behind walls and fire it over them. It's great against enemies with shields since it hits them above or even behind if you cast it right. It's super effective against flying enemies, since it still does damage if they run into it before it fires. Fantastic against NPC invaders and input readers, since they react to the spell cast, and not the actual firing. Set them up as a trap when you know an enemy is about to come around a corner. So much utility.

                                          • Casting one and then switching targets before it has resolved seems to make it change targets. Potentially useful if true, but kind of annoying.

Tip: This spell is great for protecting you from anything that is floating/flying like birds for example. The second you've casted this, the blade will already spawn in place, which means that anything that touches it will be damaged by it instead of needing to bait the target out for a few seconds before the glintblade launches. This has saved me from those birds in Stormveil countless times when they do their lunge attack in the air into the stationary glintblade.

Proper usage of this spell will make ambush shard redundant. Casting this at an enemy that uses shields or has frontal armor and maneuver around them so that they have their back to the glintblade (as enemies like to track the player) and watch as it smacks them in the back.

Proper use is not to throw up 3 of these at once and hope for the best. You throw up one then use another sorcery or incantation while also having flint blade phalanx up to protect you. Then cast the flint blade again. Then cast another different spell or take your blue flask while protected by 3 layers of spells. You must layer your spells. Different timings and even better if they’re golden order incantations layered in. This sorcery carries my fth cleric. Imagine what it could do for you 70 int wizards

                                                  • Well this be boosted by Godfrey's Talisman when fully Charged?
Godfrey technically boosts any spell that has Charging in it's description regardless of whether charging makes the spell deal more damage or just alter the properties. Anybody tested this with Godfrey Talisman? Please let me know.

The best “basic attack” for pure casters. Fast cast, decent damage, fp efficient. The fp efficiency can further be improved by charging (with lower dps). The fire delay screws with the AI response typically to your benefit.

                                                      • Anonymous

Really useful against crucible knights as a sorcerer. Because they're either blocking or beating the crap out of you, you can cue up these glintblades with long charge times and then backpedal so that the blades hit them in the back or while they're attacking.

                                                        • Anonymous

fun fact - if you chain cast after the second animation of comet, your glintblade will be cast like the third animation, although it will not fire and leave a residual glowing spark. good for decorating areas

This is worth it? I mean damage boost / time to cast ratio.

Fun note, When using staffs NPC enemies only acknowledge and dodge the initial cast of the weapon, And not the delayed projectile, With the right upgrades i've been using this spell to fight npc invaders and bosses. This is mentioned below by other members as well.
Absolutely saved me frok millicent early on and completely wrecked the lady in the roundtable. Works well on bosses that try to dodge if you don't mind the delay.

Honestly insanely good for 1v1 PVP duels, they tend to have a hard time dodging it. Pair it with Bloodhound Step and just keep running away and setting these up.

                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                      • Anonymous

The spell definitely costs stamina on-use, not when the blade fires. I think what people are seeing is that you often aren't considered "in combat" until the first blade hits an enemy, so you can queue up 5 or 6 for no stamina cost at all.

                                                                        • This spell has a bug when used in sequence casting (this spell used in a follow up cast)

If Glintblade is the third spell cast in a sequence (from a glintstone spell such as pebble) its animation will display and then the sword will not fire, creating a visual bug in the air.

This will ALWAYS bug if it is cast using the characters left to right staff animation.

To replicate this, simply cast glintstone pebble x2 and then magic glintblade.
It can consistently bug if cast in this order.
Pebble x2, glint, pebble, glint, pebble as each time glint is cast, it is during the left to right staff animation.

A lovely spell. Enemies are coded to dodge spells when right you cast them. Cast this and they will dodge when you finish casting and then ignore the delayed blade that hits them straight in the face. It has better range than pebbles, and because it will almost always hit the target it's a great spammable spell for any situation

                                                                                • Anonymous

Finally a reason to ditch the Pebble lol. FP efficiency is slightly worse (73% not charged, 84% charged) but it's quite managable. And in return you get a bread and butter spell that is way safer to cast, screws with enemy AI (they tend to dodge too early), is more accurate and just has quite a bit higher DPS. Don't be discouraged by the delayed cast, once you have enough blueberry juice and 15 - 20 points in Mind this spell is better than Glintstone Pebble in just about every single way.

                                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                                      • Anonymous

One of the two premier and worthwhile spells all the way until the mid-late game. The Glintblade has a few quirks that make it a viable alternative to the Pebble. While the Pebble is slightly more FP efficient relative to the damage it deals, the Glintblade has more per cast damage and more range. Also if you can one shot an enemy with a Glintblade vs using 2 Pebbles, the former becomes more FP efficient.

Of note is the fact that charging the Glintblade also increases the damage it does by a decent amount. Furthemore unlike the Pebble, you can cast this while retreating on horseback, making it the superior mounted spell. The slow start up also makes it the weapon of choice for spell blades or hybrid builds, because a hybrid caster/melee build can charge in while the blades are flying to take advantage of the brief stagger.

For a pure caster the instant cast of the pebble may be preferable, but the Glintblade is a well balanced alternative.

                                                                                        • Anonymous

Excellent sorcery. Cast it while an enemy is blocking or running around, and then reap the rewards when they're standing still to attack and you're dodging.

                                                                                          • Anonymous

Learning to time your first charge with a short second cast to land two shots at the same. Adding in melee creates some really impressive burst you can setup while you're positioned out of range with no investment.

                                                                                            • Anonymous

Damage comparable to Glintstone Pebble. AoE cleaves everything in the casting direction as long as the middle does not hit walls, etc.. Very solid AoE that is much needed.

                                                                                              • Anonymous

Tracks during both the charge-up portion and the flying portion of the spell making it surprisingly easy to hit. Also acts as an air mine vs big enemies during charging.
