Mohg, the Omen is a Great Enemy Boss in Elden Ring. This powerful Omen has royal blood and communes with an outer god known as the Mother of Truth. This is an optional boss as players do not need to defeat it to advance in Elden Ring, but either it or the Valiant Gargoyle duo must be defeated to enter Deeproot Depths and achieve a certain ending

Mohg, Lord of Blood is another variant of this boss. In the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC Mohg, Lord of Blood plays a crucial role. He is responsible for kidnapping Miquella, the central character of the DLC, and attempting to use him in a failed deification ritual. Mohg's actions directly influence the storyline and themes of the DLC, as they lead to Miquella being trapped in a cocoon within the Haligtree.

Mohg, The Omen Combat information

Negations (or Absorptions)

The negation numbers are the % of your damage that gets blocked. For example, if a negation is 60, 40% of that damage by that type will go through and 60% will be negated. Bigger number = less damage. A negation of 100 means no damage goes through, and a negation of -100 means the enemy takes 2x damage from that source. 0 means damage goes pretty much as is.

Resistances

The resistance numbers are the buildup amount to trigger it. For example, if a resistance is 100 you must deal 100 points of the given buildup to trigger it. Note that these go down over time, and increase each time the effect procs.

Mohg, the Omen Fight Strategy

The Best Tips for Mohg, the Omen:

  • Bring Mohg's Shackle Item
  • Switch to Occult Affinities (Arcane users)

Melee Users

Equip Mohg's Shackle in your items and buff before entering the arena, summon your ash of choice right away then wait for him to approach. When he is close and about to strike, use the Mohg's shackle item to interrupt him then unleash some charged attacks on him. You may need to trade a hit or two, but you should be able to stagger him with all of that time and get a critical strike. Feel free to run away and rebuff if needed, let your summon take aggro and dodge through his attacks. Land a charged attack while he is busy with your summon then immediately use the Mohg's Shackle again--note that you can only use it TWICE each time you fight him. Then land some heavy or charged attacks afterward. It should be easy to stagger him at this point and now you get to face him with substantially less health. From here on just read his attacks and throw out some light attacks in between or run and gun if you would like to (the pillars can stop his bloodsplatter ability if they aren't knocked down yet). It might be tricky to get down but with the hammer talisman and the flask of wondrous physick that buffs charged attacks+stance break, I was able to break his stance with a straight sword, one-handed.

Magic and Ranged Users

For magic and ranged users, you need to be careful when casting spells/incantations or using ranged skills, his trident has a long reach and can clip you where you think you might not get hit. He also has a couple of bloodflame spells that can be used as projectiles. Try casting spells/incantations that are quick or heavy-hitting and make sure you're either at a safe distance, or when he's casting a spell as well, but do not trade blows with him when he's casting a spell as it is not worth it. Only do so if you think you're safe, you can take advantage of the pillars from the area to hide from the projectile. If you're using a bow and arrow, you can safely jump and shoot from a safe distance while kiting him around the area. You can also use Mohg's Shackle then cast the spell/incantation of your choice, note that you can only use the shackle twice each time you fight him.

Alternatively, prepare your Flask of Wondrous Physick with the Magic-Shrouding Cracked Tear and Cerulean Hidden Tear (to boost your magic dmg and make spells cost no FP), cast Terra Magica just before entering the fog gate (this way, the circle extends into the boss room), drink the Wondrous Physick outside, then as soon as you enter, start casting Comet Azur. You don't even have to move forward, as the laser is long enough to reach him from where you enter the boss room. If Mohg starts to do his chanting first, you'll begin firing right as he finishes his chant. It has a bit of an RNG to it as to what he decides to do and can one-shot you if he stops to throw blood, but if he just slowly walks toward you, he'll be dead within seconds, even with his 47% magic absorb. Since he is one of the bosses who don't dodge out of harm's way, this is a fully working strategy here.

Mohg, the Omen Attacks & Counters

Attack Description Counter
Trident thrust attack He will Thrust his trident in your direction (possibly can be triggered when you heal haven't tested theory) Get out of reach, block, or dodge
Bloodboon Mohg will reach into the air and then toss a splash of bloodflame. This can come in a wide arc, narrow cone, or in a shower at his position. The floor where this attack contacts will light in bloodflame, dealing fire damage and contributing to hemorrhage buildup.
  • The wide arc variant is used at medium range and can be evaded by rolling forward.
  • Roll to the side to avoid the cone variant.
  • Get behind him to punish the shower variant.
Trident combos

He has a triple swing combo, a swing then ground stab combo, and a swing + overhead slam combo

Watch his trident. The moment it moves dodge through the swipe and prepare to dodge the next 1-2 swings until he does a heavier attack and stops. When he stabs the ground and you are knocked down--don't immediately get up, there is a hitbox when he pulls out the trident! You can watch the trident to see if he plans on attacking again right after or if he is going to use a spell instead.
Bloodlfame Talons Mohg will slash the air near him with his left hand, before it explodes. The slash itself is less harmful than the explosion. Roll away right before it detonates. Be careful if you're aggressively rolling forward into his trident attacks as he can use this attack to roll-catch you.

Mohg, the Omen Lore, Notes & Other Trivia

Mohg, the Omen is an optional boss encountered within the Cathedral of the Forsaken, located in the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds. This ancient site lies just down the stairs from the Forsaken Depths Site of Grace, serving as the lair for this malevolent entity. To confront this ominous adversary, players can opt for a multi-player approach, allowing them to summon Spirit Ashes to aid in battle. Alternatively, they can enlist the help of Dung Eater, an NPC who can be summoned if freed from his cell. Although vanquishing Elden Ring Mohg, the Omen is not mandatory for progression, it is a crucial step for unlocking a specific ending. Players should prepare themselves for a challenging encounter, as this boss is known for its fierce attacks and cunning tactics.

When do you kill Mohg Elden Ring?

This is a frequently asked question that could be referring to either the Mohg, Lord of Blood or Mohg, the Omen. Both bosses are optional so there is not a specific time that you will need to kill either of them. This Mohg the Omen is not optional for at least one of the Endings in the game, but is overall still an optional Bosses and does not need to be completed to progress through the other Endings in th game. He and can be encountered in the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds in Leyndell, Royal Capital. This area is accessible by descending the stairs at the Avenue Balcony Site of Grace and immediately turning left out of the double grate doors. First walk to the railing, and then move northwest until the rooftops are directly to your left. Hop over the railing onto the rooftops, then descend into the plaza. From the plaza's center, face due North. The well's wooden structure will be visible between a dilapidated ruin and the walkway.

As you make your way through this Location, make sure you pick up Mohg’s Shackle  which can greatly help against your upcoming Boss encounter. It will be guarded by 2 Giant Crayfish. View the Video location for visual guidance on this item's location. As you get through this area, you may encounter the Dung Eater and eventually you will find your way to the Cathedral of the Forsaken. Once you activate the Forsaken Depths Site of Grace  and directly ahead is Mohg's room where you can get a chance to face him.

Mohg, the Omen Lore, Notes

  • Voice Actor: Con O'Neill
  • Unlike Mohg, Lord of the Blood, this boss is an illusion. This is indicated by a soundtrack called "Omen Illusion". It was probably created by Morgott to protect altair there.
    • Additionally, this boss has only one death animation despite being ripostable At one point he received an update and his death animation when riposted is different.
  • After the boss fight, loot the treasure chest, then activate the Site of Grace: Cathedral of The Forsaken. Stand behind the treasure chest and (with your back to the chest and you're facing an altar/ wall) attack the altar/ wall. A secret pathway will open up.

"When do you kill Mohg Elden Ring?

This is a frequently asked question that could be referring to either the Mohg, Lord of Blood or Mohg, the Omen"

No? This is some convincing sounding but wrong chatGPT rubbish. Expansion isn't even going to be out for at least a month so how could someone be asking that question and who the heck is Mogh Elden Ring anyways?
Is he related to Morgott Elden Ring then lol.
Or Godefroy the Grafted found in Golden Lineage Evergaol.

Wowzers, Destined Death absolutely destroys him.... I've been testing a few builds against him in prep for the DLC - tried a lightning build based around Ancient Lighting Spear which is usually a delete button but he laughed it off. Me and "The Boys" AKA Demi Human 5 couldn't even get him to half heath. Just went in with Maliketh's Black Blade and the BB incantation, solo'd him to 10% in about 20 seconds. Had to quit out before BB reduced his health to zero. I know the stuff i mentioned is pretty close to end game but you can get the actual Black Bladed knife and the Tische ash fairly early on so if you're struggling with this guy or his IRL counterpart, try that.

Maybe I was over-leveled since I'm cleaning up loose ends before Radabeast, but Reduvia and its skill made quick work of this fella.

Can we just talk about how this boss and real Mohg have a higher fire resist than the Fire Giant? My mans really got some fire resistant robes

              • Anonymous

Immune to status effects and fire? Like why the ****? Why is the lesser version harder than the actual boss? ****ing hate it when the boss just happens to be immune or resistant to my build... Like why? Is that supposed to be fun?

                • Anonymous

Boss is fun but the arena is an ****ing disgrace. you get stuck at each bench and those pillars are completly pointless because the mogh can just destroy them

I brought Black Knife Tiche and a very unoptimized Bolt of Gransax build, pre Goldfrey, at level 72... he did not stand a chance.
Black Knife Tiche really just deletes him. Do a bit of damage every once in a while (preferably from range) to pull aggro off of her for a moment, and she's got it. She might actually be able to solo it, not sure.

if he is about to toss blood at you from across the room, you can hide behind a pillar for a cheeky heal. Remember to stay far enough away tho

Boss is immune to all status effects? Don't worry destined death, or black flame attacks can be your friend too. And boi do they kick this guy hard.

                            • Godslayer Sword at +10 (my only 10) and bye bye Mohg. You can also have ashes and Dungeater, which makes it even easier. He is resistant to status effects, but not blackflame.

Accidentally beat this guy second try. I don't use summons normally but wanted to try out Mimic Tear because it sounded cool. Absolutely annihilated him. I feel kind of cheated by how easy it made him.

I hate this boss with a fiery passion. Barely about the boss, but rather the ****ING ARENA. God, it's awful.

i like how his whole bloodflame talons have faster animation and explosion than half of a normal attack with greatsword

Used the shackle and it was over quick. Able to use twice on this Mohg. Those shackles are almost like sleep pots. Area leading to boss is more difficult, but oddly satisfying to make it through.

It's funny you can completely cheese this boss with night maiden mist and rock sling and the skeletons ashes with just the stat requirement and enough fp flasks. Just stay away until the ashes takes the aggro, cast nmm then rock sling three times, the skeletons revive while he's down, rinse and repeat for two minutes and he's down. Just did this at lvl 30

Mimic tear with gods layer greatsword +10 then hit mohg with the blade of death and then attack him with the godslayer greatsword and attempt to spam the Aow of the black blade when he’s low and have your mimic tear at least +6

This boss was genuinely the hardest boss I faced in my first playthrough harder than MALENIA ( I wasn’t putting the right stats, using a bleed katana and dragon communion), but I got to say GREATSHIELD SOLDIERS ARE THE GOAT, along with dung eater ( free him and do not continue his questline until after finishing this boss.), we jumped this fool with my isshin/gennichiro build. Use greyoll’s roar when behind him and his agro is not on you btw. And use the pillars to allow recovery. I beat this man with Reedlander pants and ¿Bloodied cloth gloves? First playthrough? Bull goat, mimic.

Never found this boss using the walk through. It just says if you want to do the catacombs, go. Or thats it....I found dung eater....Perfect guide otherwise. But this whole underworld guide never mentions the fingers either for a trophy achievement.

Why Mohg, The Omen is immune to all status effects and Mogh, Lord of Blood not? just curious if this is something to do with the lore.

                                                • Anonymous

Somehow I found this fight way harder than, LOB Mohg. He just has so much health for the stage you fight him at. Not only that, but god have mercy if you want to do a status damage build using daggers or something. Because you're never beating this boss without some serious elbow grease.

                                                  • Anonymous

Killed him with just catch flame incantation pretty fun. Learning his patterns was very enjoyable much prefer this version over real Mohg plus this one isn’t a nonce

                                                    • Anonymous

Great boss. I prefer this version of Mohg since the blood fire doesn’t cover the whole arena. Only downside is the arena is pretty SHlT!

i spent like 20 minutes fighting him with a magma wyrms scale sword without realizing he has an 80% fire resist... pain

                                                        • Anonymous

This Mohg is immune to all status effect, which is a trait shared by all illusion/ghost enemies. This is probably an illuision left by real Mohg like the golden Godfrey. Its location probably indicates that Mohg was originally responsible for guarding the Three Fingers, but he eventually went on his schemes and just left a illusion there.

                                                          • Anonymous

They reuse Margit, the first main story boss, outside Leyndell. Then they reuse Mohg, the finale for Varre’s quest. Then they reuse Astel, the climax for Ranni’s quest. And Loretta, who was a part of Ranni’s quest and a part of Millicent’s. Then Godrick’s reused in an Evergaol. And the Godfrey’s Golden Shade is just a reused phase 1 of his actual fight. These are all named bosses. I’m fine with reusing Field Bosses for more content, but this is just ridiculous. I know Fromsoft has recycled bosses in the past, Capra, Taurus and Asylum Demon, the Gargoyles, but that’s different than recycling some of your most important bosses like Godfrey and Margit. That’s like seeing Logarius, Ornstein or the Nameless King just walking around or off in a cave somewhere.

                                                                • Anonymous

The spear hitbox is weird. I was getting roll catch'd every single time, getting hit by the spear hilt if I roller into him or by the spear tip if I rolled away.

I stated rolling to the side and circle him, there's a safe spot on his left leg that seem to not get hit by the hilt. The second swing of the combo is delayed and requires 2 consecutive rolls to dodge. The problem is he changes his combos every time. After the 2nd swing he sometimes does a 3rd swing, a bloodflame explosion, a stab to the ground or nothing at all.

                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                    • Anonymous

While I tried to swap around bleed and cold on my spiked caestus only to find out now that this version of Mohg has immunity to status effects lol, made the fight enjoyable though when I learned his moveset.

                                                                      • Anonymous

I don't get this need to force players to go farm smithing stones to upgrade another weapon because of specific bosses being practically immune

                                                                        • Anonymous

Can someone please explain to me why in the world this guy is immune to all statuses. I was using the Antspur Rapier with Chilling Mist and thinking "man he must have high resistances, let me check the wiki", and I found out that part of my buil is completely nullified by this version of Mohg. Why???

                                                                          • Anonymous

This boss on its own is pretty good. The attacks hit very hard but are well telegraphed and mostly pretty easy to dodge/block without too many "bullshit" moves. The health and resistances are very high but not unbeatable merely requiring a bit of patience and memorising the attacks of which there aren't many and the arena is small but not unreasonably so. Where this encounter utterly fails is the arena design, I get that a chapel has pews and that rolling through them destroys them instantly but I can't exactly roll/hit every pew at the start of the fight. I got killed so many times through no fault of my own because my character got stuck on a single pixel and it pissed me off so much that I eventually said **** crutched the mimic tear stealing aggro for the whole fight.

                                                                            • Well I tried to solo him with my Rivers of Blood but my damage was too low, fortunately I was able to summon my mimic and together we defeated this abomination in my first try.
Hard enemy but not impossible, he was probably hard to me due to the status effect immunity and 80 fire resistance...

                                                                              • Anonymous

As with the real Mohg, watch its Bloodflame Talons:
If Mohg uses the attack quickly, be prepared for another attack to follow; most likely a ground stab from the Trident or a Bloodboon cast directly at its feet. If it's the former, great! Roll well and you get a few free attacks. If it's the latter, you will be forced to back off to try and lure Mohg away, which gives it the advantage.
If Mohg uses the attack slowly, use this time to sprint around to its backside. If you successfully evade the explosion, you'll have enough time to unload an entire combo's worth of attacks, building up a lot of poise damage.

                                                                                  • Anonymous

Stayed outside of most of the attacks. First tried the Greatshield Ashes (+7) and they melted very quickly (don't recommend).

A theme with this game also seen when hiding sorceries and casting equipment behind a boss that dodges all spells like the Red Wolf. You need it to progress your build, but you have the wrong build for the fight and it would be easier with a katana.

For anyone having trouble with him and just want to beat him, get a tank summon and just bolt of gransax him from across the room, that worked for my very first try on playthrough 1. Need medium to high dex levels for this method though, but at least you dont have to go out of your way for Bolt of Gransax since you can find it before going into the sewers easily

                                                                                                        • Anonymous

I just fought this guy for like ten minutes and he only bled me once despite my standing in the blood rain like an idiot. I died from physical damage. It’s crazy useful.
