Ruins Greatsword is a Colossal Sword in Elden Ring. The Ruins Greatsword scales primarily with Strength and Intelligence and is a good Weapon for its additional magic damage.

Originally rubble from a ruin which fell from the sky, this surviving fragment was honed into a weapon.
One of the legendary armaments.

The ruin it came from crumbled when struck by a meteorite, as such this weapon harbors its destructive power.

Elden Ring Ruins Greatsword Notes & Tips

  • Weapon Skill: Wave of Destruction
  • This weapon cannot be infused with Ashes of War
  • Cannot be enchanted with Magic nor boosted by Consumables
  • Ruins Greatsword can be upgraded by using Somber Smithing Stones
  • Wave of Destruction: The weapon skill damage scales primarily with weapon level. There are minor increases in damage from STR levels, and the least increase from INT levels.
  • Charged strong attacks cause a small burst of gravity magic upon slamming the ground. This slam causes additional damage, as well as staggering enemies in close proximity. This doesn't cost FP, but consumes more Stamina than normal charged heavy attacks.
  • At 80 Strength and 18 Intelligence, the Ruins Greatsword has 922 Attack Rating.
  • If the player doesn't meet the stat requirements to wield the weapon, the following penalties are applied:
    • They will become unable to use the Weapon Skill.
    • Their stamina cost on each attack is increased.
    • They cannot benefit from the weapon's magic scaling.
    • However, meeting the STR requirement allows the physical damage and scaling of the weapon remain the same. The base magical damage also remains unaffected.
      • This could prove useful for pure Strength builds if the player manages to acquire it early in the game, provided they can find the Somber Stones to upgrade it.
  • Sell Value:  er runes 13 1000
  • Normally you can rotate to attack in any which direction during the final stages of the animation but with this weapon the 1H R2 is seemingly locked into whatever direction you were facing when pressing R2. (This bug been patched as of 1.07).
  • One of 9 Legendary Armaments.
  • Note: As of Patch 1.08, the Speed of Crouching and Rolling Attack has been slightly increased.
  • NOTE: As of Patch 1.09, the scaling values of this weapon were changed. Please refer to the Upgrades Table of this weapon below. Additionally, the speed of guard counters for this weapon has increased

crouch R1 should change from crouch poke to something else , I know poke is a good moveset but my brain reject that this sword can stab and still do piercing damage.

Can't believe ppl say this looks ugly and is only good for ash of war. For me this is one of the most beautiful weapons and also, despite the range, it's amazing for normal attacks, guard counters and badass r2's. Unga bunga

My first playthrough I got to redmane underleveled and banged my head against the crucible misbegotten duo fight for hours. Halfway through I decided whatever they drop, I'm just gonna make my whole build around it to justify the effort. Turns out it was one of the most fun weapons in the whole game.

Meet the int requirement and go to 55 strength, and 2 hand.

This thing is an absolute monster in invasions with the amount of hyper armor you get, let’s you out-trade the current meta (spinning slash).

            It’s a gank destroyer.

This weapon’s skill Wave of Destruction works wonders on knights—especially the ones over at the Haligtree. Seeing those heathens getting tossed into oblivion is just a beautiful sight. :’)

Recently wrapped up a RL1 with this. Highlight is spamming Wave of Destruction on Gideon, just fun seeing him being thrown up in the air repeatedly.

The note regarding the AoW is misleading. It scales purely off of the weapon's AR. If you increase the weapon's AR the damage of the AoW goes up proportionately. However it's worth noting that like with most other AoW it only scales with the 1-handed AR, so it doesn't get the bonus AR from 2-handing it.

Can anyone confirm if the bonus dmg for heavy attacks and weapon art is considered as gravity type dmg, does this do bonus% dmg to enemies that are weak to gravity? As it is not listed with the weapons in the "enemies weak to gravity" tab

                      • Anonymous

I love this thing. Awesome scaling, unique gravity themed effect on the charged R2, and a fun ash of war. While the range is undeniably worse than other colossal swords, it's kind of offset by the range you get from the ash of war. Overall I think it's worse than the BB but it also requires much less stat investment. I would give it an 8.5/10

Farum Azula literaly made of Ancient Dragons and Ancient Dragon Smithing Stones are their scale, this is a piece of Farum Azula imbued with gravitational power of the meteorite hitting it then made a weapon, word cannot describe how legendary this armament is now that you used a Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone on it.

                          • Anonymous

It's important to note that the unique charge heavy attacks do more damage than those of an equivalent weapon, like a heavy greatsword, but only if the sword and shockwave both hit. The sword strike alone will do less. The shockwave seems to have the same reach as the sword, which isn't much, so to make sure the full charged heavy hits you should stay close to your target.

I’m lvl 203, wearing full armor of Tree Sentinel, Fingerprint Stone Shield, Ruins Greatsword, Erdtree Bow, Dragon Communion Seal (all gear maxed). Stats at 60 Vigor, 90 Endurance, 68 Strength and the rest about 10-16. I’m working on Strength to get to 99 (it is the max if I’m correct). And I can confirm that every point over 50 strength grants 4-5 damage for single hand attacks on Attack Power (not attacking enemies). I think it will scale more as I enter higher strength brackets. If anyone can confirm?

And 90 Endurance is absolutely nice. Medium roll with all this heavy gear, and I have a good bow for ranged attacks. My talisman consist of Green Turtle, Gold Scarab, Pearldrake +2, Dragoncrest Greatshield. High endurance gives tons of stamina. In PVP combat, I’m on top of enemies either close to attack or barely any distance because of the high stamina. I regain it very quickly as well. I. Over, recovery is also incredible. But honestly the shield makes enemy attacks a joke. It reduces so much dmg or no dmg from physical attacks. If I put more points in endurance I can wield a great bow. Though I feel quick attacks from normal bows is the way to go.

i spammed Malenia with R2 (Wave of Destruction) using this, and killed her alongside my clone. She could not recover easily from the stagger

I wish its Ash of War did more Damage cause you can do 2x dmg with a Jump attack with the right tailsmans than the Ash of War with the ight tailsmans.

Why is this not a strike weapon? You literally smash a rock into their face, this is not a sword, it's a sharpened rock on a stick

god i wish i hadn't chosen not to use this on my first playthrough. it's literally 16 int!!! that's all it took for me to hem and haw my way out of having any fun. try new things folks, force yourself if you have to.

                                      • Anonymous

Heavy Watchdog's Greatsword+25 and Ruins Greatsword+10 have the same exact strength scaling value, but Ruins has 2 more base physical damage and the magic base+scaling tacked on for free. Ruins also has better guarding stats all the way down.

                                        • A fine weapon. There are times that it feels like the most broken weapon. S scales with strength and the weapon art just obliterates pretty much everything in its path. And, the crazy thing is I'm using this at +9 and it is still just silly!

                                          • Anonymous

I used this weapon on my first playthrough and this thing absolutely slaps. Does great damage and the WA does good damage and makes up for the short length of the weapon. Overall really fun weapon and although I didn’t use it much the charged heavy has that nice delayed gravity explosion for some bonus damage.

I've been laying waste with this collosal sword. Beat the Sol castle boss and Lord of blood on the first try. It went thru them like hot butter. Definitely a great sword for bosses.

I never once thought vendricks ultra great sword needed a magic buff.

This thing packs a wallop! The L2 gravity attack is brutal and has incredibly long range, really cant go wrong with this weapon but if you missed it I feel sorry for you.

As of 1.09, this weapon's pure physical damage now surpasses the Heavy GUGS's total damage at high Strength values, and this weapon ALSO deals some magic damage on top, so it's the supreme bonk colossal (but it has the second least reach while the GUGS has the most reach... but it has a really cool ranged Skill).

                                                    • Anonymous

This should have better fire and lightning absorptions. Its made of stone for chrissakes, how is that not less conducive of heat and electricity. How are these the same as the greatsword.

                                                      • I really think the 16 int requirement paired with one of the highest Strength requirements was a terrible idea. 16 is a bit steep, 13 or 14 would be more appropriate for a weapon that already has one of the highest strength requirements in the game.

                                                        • Anonymous

the int requirement gives you access to scholars shield, if you want to make an ultra beefcake tank build.

The charged r2 has a lower-than-average motion value, but coupled with the explosion it actually ends up being higher than other UGS.

I've been a enjoyer of the dragon greasword in ds1, the king's ultra greatsword in ds2 and the fume ultra greatsword in ds3. I had not the chance to use the dragon bone smasher in Des, but i got to smash and slice my way through with the amygdalan arm.

I feel like i've come full circle with this one.
