Anyone else feel like the op-ness of this weapon is a bit overrated? I'm not saying it's not very powerful, but there's a lot of easy to use spammable ashes of war in this game. It's certainly good damage, but you *do* have to time it well against some faster moving bosses that like to dodge, and the windup is kind of slow. You can trade and heal, but it's not a ridiculous amount or anything. It does decent poise damage, but again I wouldn't call it a game-breaking amount compared to some other things.
It does a lot of things well all at once, and I guess it's easier to use than a lot of things if you level up your FP enough for spamming, but I'd hardly consider it in need of a nerf is my point.

A good combo would be to use the skill after a stancebreak so they cant escape it.

Let us get rid of the hands on the blade, its a good weapon but the hands are throwing me off. They should add an altered version of it

I'm curious to know how this sword looked and functioned before all the blasphemy corrupted it, as well as the lore behind it. It looks like it was golden, and pretty ornate. I think it would be pretty cool to have a pre-blasphemy version of it somehow, but I'm not sure how Fromsoft could make that work game/lorewise.

I'm partially disabled on both arms, play on PC with keyboard + mouse (can't use controller to save my life) and I do and will continue using this weapon and my Mimic for all my solely PVE purposes. It's in the game to be used and it's not all that OP because you still have to know when to use the slow-ass weapon skill, or else you die just the same. People who whine that nobody should have it because they don't need it can kindly go play Sekiro and cry there.
As for PVP: if you use this weapon in PVP, you're doing PVP wrong. The weapon skill is so damn slow, I can dodge it. AND i'M A CRIPPLE.

This is my failsafe weapon. Whenever I am struggling with a boss, I equip this as a last resort. I don't have that much more faith than I need to equip it as I feel bad cause it is so easy mode.

fitting weapon for all the meta/pve harlots out there considering who its original owner was

this or giant hunt is what you pick up when you are bored of that rotten harlot with katana.

I can confirm makes the game more enjoyable and works against malenia. Paired with long envoy great horn and still have incantations is fun.

50/50/50 STR/DEX/FAI has carried me from ng+1->ng+5
I’m starting ng+6 tomorrow and fully expect similar results—especially as I’ll be leveling faith to 80 over this playthrough
- Anonymous
This is the item if you don't want to have insane blood pressure playing the rest of the game.
Never nerf it. Please.
If you intend on relying primarily on the skill, level strength, and dex to meet the requirements, then faith up to 80. If you want to use it one-handed, go for minimum requirements in faith and str, then level dex until you see diminishing returns. For two-handed, just swamp dex and str.
I STRONGLY recommend the faith route. That skill is just bonkers and you could also pair it with Erdtree seal for incantations.

Honestly one of the best weapons in the game. I used my first playthrough and it carried me all through the haligtree. Such a great weapon, fun to powerstance with another greatsword

This weapon is absurdly OP. I have used it and loved using it. But everyone denying it needs a nerf needs a reality check. This option is SO OP for PVE faith build that other options might as well not even exist. It's hard as a player to choose anything else. But on some level, I *want* to be able to choose something else. Tired of trying other faith weapons and feeling burdened by the knowledge that I have made an objectively worse choice. I guess the other open would be to buff some of the awful faith weapons in the game. but, we're being honest; this would still need a nerf. And it would make me sad. But I am a human with very little self control, and I want to enjoy a different weapon in PVE
Also to idiots who will dunk on any weapon that has like. story telling or personality built into its design as being "ugly": best of luck picking between shades of beige nest time you are repainting any room.

this is the weapon i used on my first playthrough, after that on NG+ i tried using other weapons. and at that point i realized that Elden ring is actually a hard game.

I started a new PvE character, and I wanted to try a new play style. I did Dex / Faith, and was determined to use weapons I don't normally use, and close-quarters spells I don't normally play with.
In general, just trying to keep things interesting and add some difficulty for myself.
It actually meant that there were some bosses I couldn't beat the first time I encountered them, and I had to put a skull on the map so I could come back later.
And then....
And then I got the blasphemous blade.
And damnit, I folded like a tea towel.
I went back to each boss and my mimic and I cheesed those bastards with the blade skill.
I'm weak. So, so weak.

I’ll be real upset if we don’t see a “clean/cleansed” version of this from the DLC, I’ll be a bit upset

blasphemous blade users try not to throw out easily dodgeable raw l2s right after casting your 984th golden vow in a row (ACTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE)

This weapon looks so good imo. It's gross and yet you can tell that the sword underneath was once regal and aesthetic

Too often i see like little hands in that sword so i guess its like that :D

The best pve weapon hands down when paired with rykyards great rune, takers cameo and the serpent gods curved sword. I'm genuinely amazed a lifesteal build in a fromsoft game works this well. Put some regen on and it's bye bye estus.

"blasphemous blade is op against xyz" ok, what is it NOT op against?
- Anonymous
It feels OP everywere except Magma Wyrms and Fire Giant. At Malenia it feels just well blanced. There are a theoretical chance to stunlock her until death, but in practice, it's hard to do so.

The healing on kill effect still works if you carry the sword on your back. You can two hand another weapon or use spells and you will still heal yourself if you kill an enemy as long as you carry the sword is on your back. Even if you don't have the required stats to wield it. Simply carrying it on the back is enough. This trick can safe lot of healing flasks.

PvP review: the damage is really bad against meta dex or str builds since they pack fire resistance on vigor along with elemental resistant armor. Not like a sweat builds just gonna let you cast FGMS either. Erdsteel dagger with sacred blade will actually do more dmg on r1s. Invasions are a different story and the L2 vigor checks along with hyper armor r1s. No one is getting hit by this L2 in a duel though, even with prediction free aims. Even with 60% defense boost from hyper armor, I will lose trades against lightning katana with lightning blade buff…

Yall i feel like this weapon is to weak in its current state and that it doesn't have enough effects, they should make it heal your entire health bar every time you swing and also add blood build up and the blood flame effect to its basic attacks and ash of war. If they buff it like this it still might be a bit underpowered but it will defiantly help it compared to how bad it is now, maybe make the ash only cost 3 fp to cost to.

Why does a weapon that's literally named "Blasphemous Blade" require faith to use?

After using Marais Greatsword, Mohg's Greatspear, dual beastman's blades(same stats, str+arc build)
Blasphemous seemed trivial, boring and underpowered, especially for boss fights.
Upgraded it to +10, respec, one evening of full dissapointment, respec, back to Arc Str build.
Waste of Somber Stones and Larval Tears.

Really is blasphemous considering how powerful it is against basically all the demi gods but the serpent king.

Even without the Alexander Shard and Flame grant me strength it's got arguably the best AOW in the entire game. A fitting reward for such an awesome optional boss. This weapon should never be nerfed.

Many of BB users I've seen have powerstanced it with Sword of Milos, and oh God it's so cringe (thank you Fextra). Sword of Milos is a dex weapon (even though it has C in both str and dex at +10 it still benefits primarily from dexterity) and BB is faith/quality, but since BB users know only how to abuse L2 and Taker's Flames scales exclusively with faith, str/dex investment doesn't matter here. Just like the bleed buildup on Milos', because 1) there is no way you will ever proc it on enemies since status builup was nerfed on paired weapons, and 2) damage from bleed is non-existent when compared to Taker's Flames or jumping L1. You kill anything so fast it just doesn't matter. And mana recovey? You really think that 5 FP restoration is something mandatory? The only thing worth noting is a defense debuff, but then you can use Milos' as an off-hand tool with any other weapon, just make sure you have 19 dex. Or use it as a main weapon on a distinct quality build, which is an incomparably better choice.

Pkcs is best weapon in history I've never lost with it even though I never lose otherwise because I'm such a great player. but when I use a pkcs it's an instant point down and dung pie because most often my opponent doesn't even get one hit in. You use this weapon to spam the ash of war and coast through the game without trying, i use this weapon in my offhand to max out health on kill for my silly gimmick build, we are not the same.

interestingly, despite the weapons corruption by the serpent, the blade is made of gold and appears to be quite ornate. he may have owned it before being devoured by the serpent, and intentionally corrupted it; a fitting example of why he is know as "the lord of blasphemy"
- Anonymous
Dual wielding this sword with various fire and/or faith buffs is a fun build. Jump attacks with the Claw Talisman are good. The AoW is actually really useful too.
- Anonymous
The ash of war becomes invisible if use on stairs and rocky areas with an incline
I love this weapon with my Strength/Faith build. Even without the AoW the base damage this thing does is on par with some of my colossal swords!... I would LOVE to see it without all the creepy bloody remains stuck to it. Underneath it looks like a beautiful ornate golden blade.

I absolutely wrecked the end game bosses including Malenia with it, my mimic tear invocation even heals itself with it, it's so broken lol
- Anonymous
I don't get why people are saying this is OP or needs a nerf. It's actually a perfectly well balanced weapon. For one, the weapon art is useless for anything airborne. Secondly, it's outranged by hard-hitting weapons like the Bolt of Gransax. Third, it's easy to avoid in PvP for anyone who is careful, so you cannot abuse it there either.
- Anonymous
I hate this sword because it's objectively a great weapon for Faith/Strength but just using it is so antithetical to my paladin gimmick
- Anonymous
Even before you get to Taker's Flame, the base damage of this weapon is just nuts. 296/191 with CCB scaling. For comparison, Dark Moon Great Sword is 200/240 with DDB. It's more than Godslayer's Greatsword, which is an ultra greatsword and significantly slower. It even does more stamina damage!

IMO This is the best PvE weapon in the game.
Weapon Art is decently fast, spammable, does fire damage (which very few bosses resist), does good damage & stance damage AND heals you for a decent chunk (per enemy hit too) on top of that.
- Anonymous
this needs heavy nerf like RoB; -70% overall damage; only heals when hit with the blade; even less damage when the blade does not hit; incresed FP.

i genuinely can't wait til dlc drops or at least the next patch so they nerf this and everyone realizes there's more button than l2, ****in hell
Something I learned on ng+4(cause Blasphemous blade became a comfort weapon due to healing feature), the ash Taker's Flames does no damage on the man serpents. I was a Patches build for ng to +3, but trying to use the blade as a crowd control weapon, the ash only bumped Rykard's children without any damage.
I assume it's due to the blade protecting Rykard's children.

The first time I fought Malenia I couldn't figure out why people kept saying she was hard, I beat her in four tries. It's only on my second playthrough where I tried fighting her WITHOUT mimic tear and WITHOUT blasphemous blade that I realized what a cheat code this weapon is lol. XD

My favorite weapon and my favorite skill to use against healing shitters in the colosseum. Taker's Flames hits for a consistent ~1,100 damage which is around half of everyone's HP bar at levels 301-713. The HP return for landing it is well worth letting them get distance thinking they're safe. Makes their heal a waste of time and heals myself in the process.

This weapon is better on a Pure Faith build since the Ash of War only scales with Faith

I was fighting Mohg and doing 1200-1400 damage everytime I used the ash of war. I didn't even know Mohg had 80% fire resistance. This weapon is just so busted lol

I thought this would be one of those average boss weapon in souls game. But no..... It was actually really good... the ash of war.

My build ended up with the perfect stats to wield this, but I just can't, it's so icky that it clashes with every Fashion Souls I have. I get how it's the point for it to look like 30 infectious diseases at once came to life, but it's just not for me
Honestly, I think the only thing about this weapon that is actually overpowered is that it restores life on kill AND life on L2 hits, both of which are also very generous amounts. If it was one or the other it would just be another cool boss weapon, but instead it single-handedly makes the user have practically infinite health while clearing areas. Maybe if it didn't give health on kill or the health on L2 hit was lowered to match the life on kill it wouldn't be as brain-dead without ruining the weapon. Considering how long Elden Ring has been out for now and how hit or miss the balance patches have been though, I doubt hardly any weapons will be buffed or nerfed appropriately at this point.
