Golem Greatbow is a Greatbow in Elden Ring. The Golem Greatbow scales primarily with Strength and Dexterity and is a good Weapon for ranged combat.

Greatbow of black stone crafted by a civilization now gone to
ruin.
Weapon of the Guardian Golem.

Extremely heavy, this greatbow requires enormous strength just to draw,
suggesting it was not designed for human use.

Where to Find Golem Greatbow in Elden Ring

The Golem Greatbow has a chance to drop from any Golem archer. The Golem Greatbow does not drop from Golems with halberds.

Locations of respawning Golem archers:

  • One can be found on the Limgrave Tower Bridge in Stormhill, which can be accessed from Stormveil Castle. Two halberd Golems are also found on the bridge.
  • Two can be found on the path towards the colosseum in Caelid. This location is only accessible via a lift in the Siofra River that takes the player to the Deep Siofra Well.
    • These two Golem archers fire magic-imbued explosive arrows and are also the only source of Golem's Magic Arrow.
  • One can be found next to the top of the Grand Lift of Dectus, in the Altus Plateau. It is accompanied by a single halberd Golem.
    • If the Grand Lift of Dectus is activated after finding both halves of the Dectus Medallion, the Golems guarding the lift will be non-hostile until the the player initiates combat. (needs confirmation, not sure if the game checks for possession of the medallion or usage of the lift)

Locations of non-respawning Golem archers:

Elden Ring Golem Greatbow Notes & Tips

  • Weapon Skill: Through and Through
  • This weapon cannot be infused with Ashes of War
  • Golem Greatbow can be upgraded by using Somber Smithing Stones
  • Farming tips:
    • When a Golem falls over, the player can perform a Critical Attack by attacking it's chest.
    • The best places to farm Golem archers for this greatbow are:
      • The pair of Golem archers in Caelid that are located on the path towards the colosseum. The player can fast travel to the Deep Siofra Well Site of Grace to respawn the archers. Note that the archer closer to the colosseum does not have weakspots in it's feet.
      • The Golem archer next to the Grand Lift of Dectus. The Altus Plateau Site of Grace is nearby, north of the lift.
    • The Limgrave Tower Bridge is an early game option, as the Golems here have less health than in other encounters. However, the player is unable to summon their mount at this location and the Golem archer spawns at the broken part of the bridge, near the Waygate to the the Divine Tower of Limgrave. Two halberd-wielding Golems also spawn along the way which can interfere with farming.
  • Sell Value:  er runes 13 200
  • Base drop rate is 10% from the respawning Golems, and 5% from the non-respawning Golems (at 100 Discovery).
  • You can shoot greatbows fairly quickly if you jump and start firing midair. Your character will land with the bow already drawn and fire the arrow in a moment. Obviously much slower than long or short bows but still fast enough to use against bosses if you keep your distance.
  • All Bows (not Crossbows) only need 2/3 the STR requirement, since they can only be used two-handed.
  • NOTE: As of Patch 1.09, the scaling values of this weapon were changed. Please refer to the Upgrades Table of this weapon below.

Absolutely cheeses the f out of Placidusax. Just AoW at a distance and Placi never moves past the initial lightning phase. Literally AoW/roll/repeat

This thing and Lion Greatbow are ridiculously OP compared to standard bows. Stack ritual sword talisman, Golden vow, Flame grant me strength or bloodboil aromatic, Arrow sting talisman and Shard of Alexander (to buff its Through and Through skill, which already deals more damage than standard shots). Can oneshot beastmen in Farum Azula on NG+7. Easily destroys Fortissax and dragons with just several shots to the head (with the exception of Borealis, who got 80% pierce damage negation for whatever reason).

        • At 1.08.1 it took me about 30-40 golems at Castle Morne (with backup save) to get one with 111 discovery. It feels more like unlucky 5% drop chance.

          • Anonymous

for being 5 times heavier and harder to use than any staff or seal, this thing deserves better scaling. basic spells can out-damage this easily, but maybe thats just because spells as a whole do way too much damage for their ease of use

            • Anonymous

Greatbows are basically useless in this game the jar cannon is the cheaper stronger variant Jar cannon +10 has Ar 672 and all you need is 23 Strg and 12 Dex This thing on +10 Needs 80 Strg and 67 dex to get to 672 Ar Thats a lvl difference of over 100 and even then you're just equal not stronger you need 99/99 to get this thing even a bit stronger than the jar cannon at 710 ar.

Currently trying to farm this early on a low level Vagabond (7 Arcane lol). I timed it and if I do the routine perfectly (run straight to the bow golem, dodge the one arrow it fires, stun it in two big hits, riposte, grab drops, run to the portal to escape the chasers, then teleport back to the grace) then it takes 90 seconds (including the two loading screens). And so far I've killed this thing I think 23 times. It's a little tedious. I hope I roll the drop soon. At least I'm also slowly accumulating Great Arrows and the very occasional (far too occasional) Golem's Great Arrows.

dont be fooled by what the AR tells you, i did the math and this does less damage than a claymore without arrow's sting. ------- +10, 50 strength, though with C scaling anything past that is diminishing returns for the bow

52 arc silver scarab, silver tear mask, silver foot and all I get are arrows. 1.07 made drop rate on items butt.

Golem's Greatbow should NOT have an 18 dex requirement, it should be the greatbow of strength builds, you can't change my mind

                      • Anonymous

Altus Golem should be your go-to farm for this greatbow. You can easily bypass the halberd golem without alterting him and if you have high damage, the greatbow golem is a walk in the park.

this bad boy is the best source of damage if you want sniping or simply mix a little bit of range play for a pure strenght build. You can slap a radagon soreseal to reach the minimum stat in dex just to use it (so 13 point is enough) and put all other points into str/vig/end.

The two golems outside the lift of Dectus are always hostile, they just have a limited field of vision. They aggro to any tarnish that is approaching from the altus side of the lift, regardless of the status of the medallion or lift usage. They will aggro even if you are running or riding away from them, they just take so long to activate that you typically escape their aggro range before the archer gets a chance to fire. I've tested this in two separate games, one with the medallion/lift activated and one without by going through the ruined precipice.

                            • tried for some of the Golem Magic Arrow's farming the two by the coliseum but couldn't get any to drop... but i did get two greatbows back to back which was a nice surprise

Messing around with a +8 version in the rebirth menu, and physik flasks with testing on some enemies, going from 18 STR and 18 DEX to:
                                  - 45 STR: about ~100 damage increase from ~580 to ~680
                                  - 45 DEX: about ~30 damage increase from ~580 to ~610
                                  - 45 STR and 45 DEX: about ~120 damage increase from ~580 to ~700

The alleged C and D scalings kind of underrate the difference between STR and DEX for this greatbow, with STR being about 3 times as more beneficial per point under the soft cap. The scaling feels more like B in strength and E in DEX at +8 in my opinion. The weight of this thing is huge and you will suffer for it without a bit of an endurance investment, so on anything other than a pure glass cannon setup or >100RL build I'd skip DEX entirely as it's too little benefit for this weapon considering the investment. Get some vigor and endurance instead and you'll have a much more pleasant experience using this.

I was planning on doing a bow build and happened to get this first try by killing the Bow-wielding Golem outside Castle Morne. Fate is looking out for me!

I don't know what's wrong with these commenters calling this bow ugly.

This bow is EXTRA thicc. This bow is my maiden.

For all of you looking to make a Bow build using Greatbows and don't know which Bow to take the Golem Greatbow or Lion Greatbow, worry not, I got your back!

I started doing a Bow build a little while ago and therefore looked into these badboys a little deeper.
For those of you who just quickly wanna know which Bow is generally better, I would advice you pick the Golem Greatbow. Further down is the explanation and comparison between Golem and Lion Bow.

                                          1. The Lion Greatbow.
The Lion Bow seems to have a little more Dex scaling than the Golem Bow but it is not that noticeable. Especially since Greatbows generally work best going for a Quality build (Expect Erdtree Greatbow).
However, the Lion Greatbow can still work decently well when used on a Dex Build with only minimal Str investments, thx to its massive damage boost of 20% when using Radahns spears!
The Weapon Art is a super strong against big enemies but lacks damage against smaller and/or faster ones, since it will most likely miss a lot of its arrows. Big boys however, usually eat those raining arrows like candy and therefore tend to melt.
Another good point for this Bow in general is, that it is upgradable with Somber Smithing Stones, making relatively high AR values come in rather quickly.
The biggest weakness of the Lion Greatbow is also its biggest strength, Radahns Spear! The damage increase is absoloutely noticeable as mentioned above, but 1 arrow costs 800 runes!!! Thats more than double the amount of the already expensive normal Great Arrows, while only giving 1/5 more damage and ONLY when used with the Lion Greatbow.
The Lion Greatbow AR when upgraded to +6 with, 50 Str/50 Dex, on a D/D scaling with no Arrows equipped is 365 and 527 when equipped with normal Greatarrows.

                                          Pros:
                                          - Works well for Quality and for Dex.
                                          - Great WA, especially for big and slow bosses. Dragons hate this trick!
                                          - CAN achieve the highest hitting single arrow damage when using Radahns Spears but most likely only for lower rune Levels (below 100).
                                          - Is the lightest of all Greatbows with only 9.5 units.
                                          - Looks freaking dope!

                                          Cons:
                                          - Gets outdamaged by the Golem Greatbow once a certain upgrade and Strength level is achieved.
                                          - Loses a lot of damage potential when not using Radahns Spears.
                                          - WA is rather useless against enemies that are not huge or enemies that move.
                                          - Lower base AR when compared with the Golem Greatbow
                                          - Radahns Spears cost 800 Runes per Arrow. (Actually hilariously expensive.)
                                          - WA can't be changed.

                                          2. The Golem Greatbow.
The Golem Greatbow works very well on Strength builds, but just like the Lion Greatbow, definetly shines the most when going for Quality.
The Golems WA is Through and Through which massively increases the damage when shoting, albeit for a little bit of FP usage. When positioned well, this WA can kill or massively damage 2 or 3 enemies using one single Arrow! I already happened to see some really funny ingame moments when using this WA and the sneaking around to get the best possible snipe is surprisingly fun.
Just like the Lion Greatbow it is upgraded with Somber Smithing Stones, which means high ARs early on. There are special Arrows for this bow aswell, but they only net a flat 10 AR more than usual Greatarrows and their special AR and "effect" are applied to every Greatbow when used. The Golem Greatarrows seem to have 40% increased poise damage but since Greatbows generally knock everything thats no super elite mob or boss from their feet, this doesn't really seem to do much. Also these are not buyable, sadly.
The Golem Greatbow AR when upgraded to +6 with, 50 Str/50 Dex, on a C/D scaling with no Arrows equipped is 430 and 607 when equipped with normal Greatarrows.

                                          Pros:
                                          - Amazing on Quality builds and works well for Str.
                                          - WA is really strong and effective against every type of enemy.
                                          - CAN take 1/4 of bosses HP with one arrow.
                                          - Outdamages all other Greatbows on a Quality build.
                                          - Doesn't need special ammunition.
                                          - Has a "mighty" feeling in its shots.
                                          - Has the highes base AR of all Greatbows

                                          Cons:
                                          - Can't change its WA
                                          - Needs Str investments and a few upgrades for damage to noticeably kick in.
                                          - The heaviest of all Greatbows with 14.5 units!
                                          - Kinda Ugly, not gonna lie.

                                          Conclusion:
The Golem Greatbow definetly takes the cake when we are talking about damage per arrow. The only way the Lion Greatbow can achieve comparable damage numbers, is when using its special arrows. As soon as Through and Through is getting used, the Golem Greatbow will once again deal significantly more damage. However, the overall dps of the Lion Greatbow can be higher depending on the enemy and the given situation. For general usage the Golem Greatbow is definetly the better choice. The only real downside of it is, that it is very heavy.

When you are looking for a decent Greatbow suitable even for Dex Builds and lower equipment loads or you just wanna go for some Elden Bling, the Lion Greatbow is for you, but you have to consider the special arrow price.

When you are looking for the highest possible sniping damage and you wanna see some 1k+ damage numbers pop up for a single arrow, the Golem Greatbow is your choice.

This thing is a monster. Pair with upgraded greatshield soldiers and sail through the game without lifting a single finger in effort. This thing kills bosses in under 6 shots. Kinda bonkers.

Takes a while to get going but starts to eventually trivialize pve with its ability to oneshot/severely damage most enemies. Lets you skip like a quarter of some bosses hp bars just by shooting them when you walk in.

                                                  • I got it on my fourth try in front of the Lift of Dectus.

Also, remember that if you farm the lift spot, only the one with the bow will drop it. Don't waste your time with the other one.

                                                        • Just a small addition to this wiki page. I was just testing and you can farm the Archer and Halberd Golem right after you ascend The Grand Lift of Dectus. The way I discovered this was that I was unsure if these were meant to respawn, however I used the site of grace before the lift cutscene, and died the first time this discovering they are farmable. These golems respawn, thus making it a semi-easy Golem Greatbow and souls farm. So for a really quick and easy farm of the Greatbow if you are in the area and do not have it yet. Go directly left of the lift and rest at the grace on the hill, then just kill them over and over till you get whatever you need.

Got it from the first golem, first kill, on the path towards the colosseum in Caelid. Good luck, nice bow btw

Man, I killed every ****ing golem, a lot with a silver fowl foot, and NOT A SINGLE ONE dropped. Oh well, there's always new game+...

Farmed off of the one in front of the Dectus lift. You can go from the Altus Plateau grace and ride past the Halberd golem and just fight the Archer. EZPZ

It's so ugly but it's technically the best greatbow in the game due to its C STR scaling. Why does FromSoft hate bows so much? Please give these things better scaling for how slow it is!

                                                                  • Anonymous

Seriously ppl. Read the wiki. Its not writen in tongues. Its written in english.
Just a quick tip: farm a.k.a farming = killing the same ennemy/ennemies multiple times.

Instructions for dummies (like the books): kill the golem multiple times until you get it. Can take 2 times like it can take 40.

Now, do yourself a favor, re-read the wiki slowly and properly for golems you can farm.

                                                                    • Anonymous

What happens if you use this without the required strength? Im 12 strength holding with 2 hands and I can shoot it, is it less damage?

                                                                      • Anonymous

I can confirm that it drops at the long bridge in stormhill It took me 20 tries to get the golem greatbow.

                                                                        • Anonymous

I got the bow on the first try with my caster, and only the bow. Then on my samurai I got nothing three times (killed two giants each time then died), then got a halberd and a great bow on the final try, with the halberd coming on the second kill and then the bow on the last.

                                                                          Feels like random drops.

                                                                          • Anonymous

I killed it and got the bow, actually 2 of them, but I don't know what arrows to use for it (doesnt work with normal arrows). I also got the great arrows that they dropped.

                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                                • Anonymous
