I ran into this Item randomly in Highroad Cave. I went up where the land octos were and just started slaughtering their babies. Next thing you know I have an octopus head to wear, but it's funny because I've killed a butt load dozen of those things over the course of 5 playthroughs and never got that item, so when I did I was rather surprised. I wouldn't say it's worth farming for, but if you're one of those guys that likes to run around the lands between with a gimmick helm on helping people kill bosses like Letmesoloher, I'd imagine the item would be funny to have on your head. Or, I guess if you want to roll play as a land octopus... boy would I like to see that, link the video.

Tried it once while going through the Ruin-Strewn Precipice, no luck.
FIRST TRY farming at the pond near Alexander's hole, this 0.5% drop rate item appeared, and I'm wearing it now.

I've owned this game since day one, and I got this item on day two. I frequent the wiki all the time to read up on various things and see other's comments and whatnot, yet I've never read into this item before today as I've never really worn it and it's just sat in storage. February 25th, 2022. I boot up the game for the first time and run around limgrave, exploring every nook and cranny. I find one of the land squids and bonk it with my club. It's literally the first piece of equip my Wretch found and I was happy not to be unarmored anymore.

Never did I know how lucky I was that day that the first thing I found from one of the first enemies I kill has a 0.5% drop chance. I still hold that one squid head dearly on that first character save slot.

Tried to get it a long time ago and it wouldn't drop no matter how long I tried. Retried last week after reading about Ocean Man here, and It dropped in the second run listening to it. Spawn point: that small lake where several of them gather. Base arcane with that tear helmet that improves arcane. Tweeks they make between versions probably raised the drop rate.

Currently wearing this with Jellyfish Shield and Rusted Anchor. Having the time of my life beating the hell out of literally everything. Give it a try, the requirements are a bit funky but the damage and utility is undeniable. I recommend using the greatshield talisman to make the Jellyfish Shield a bit better of a shield, though, since you can't two hand your weapon without losing the buff now. Cheers!

If anyone's able to edit the page, there is another farming spot for this just north-east from the Church of Plague grace. It takes 5 seconds to ride there with torrent and there's 9 small Octopuses and 1 large one. Good luck to the completionists trying to farm this, it's a *****.

Fastest way to get to the lake south of Saintsbridge is to start at the grace there, doublejump on Torrent into the Spiritspring (immediately east by southeast from grace, between the cliff and the bridge statue), aim at the flower, jump back up. You're there!

Way later on the playthrough, got it randomly dropped at siofra river while passing by and killing everything in my path, did not even realise i had killed one of these octopus until i saw the drop. it worked for me. Siofra river. I did three or four runs of killing those guys last week, didnt get anything, despite my ARC into the 70's with the silver tear helm and eating some pickled fowl feet. Tonight, i was about to start again, and decided to get ocean man going. I didnt even finish killing all of them in the first run and it dropped partway through.
for the uneducated, "Ocean Man" is a song by the eclectic band known as Ween. it's the weirdest, most enjoyable music to come out of the 90's, up there with Primus and Mr. Bungle.

To add a lil spice to my farming sessions, I've been running a stopwatch to see how long it takes to grind everything. And coming to the Octopus Head, of course I HAD to try the Ocean Man method in addition to my timer. I then made another atempt and it dropped again! If I only knew about this when I was farming this piece near Alexander by normal means, the farm took about two hours back then.

Don't know if anyone mentioned it, but you can farm three land octopuses that are very close to and exactly south from the Seaside Ruins site of grace, just a five seconds horseback ride away. This is the closest farming spot to the First Step and so is accessible at the very start of the game. This is also better method due to the fact that there are no other enemies besides the little trio that won't let you check the map for fast travel because of the aggro.

Btw I tried to farm the head there and I had to kill all octopuses roughly 120 times at base discovery (110) before the drop. It could be worse, though

I found out about the Ocean Man method yester day when i first saw this weird head gear. I though i was gonna have to hunt these guys to extinction if id ever farm for one and the Ocean Man just a silly meme, but just now i happened upon a group and hummed Ocean Man to my self whilst whacking em. Lo and behold i got it! No buffs, no nothing. I was just passing though on other business. Why pray to RNGesus when you can summon Ocean Man.
