A talisman fashioned from a dried twig, so slender that it might snap at the slightest touch.

Prevent rune loss upon death, but will be lost itself in exchange.

Believed to be a twig pruned from the Erdtree long, long ago.

Sacrificial Twig Effect in Elden Ring

Sacrificial Twig prevents rune loss upon death, but will be lost itself in exchange. Users will lose the talisman instead of their runes, saving them the effort and risk of having to do the trip to pick up the runes where they died.

Elden Ring Sacrificial Twig Notes & Tips

  • Sell value: runes currency elden ring wiki guide 18 1,000
  • Because the item is lost when its effect activates, it's a good idea to have multiple copies of it.
  • It can also be used after a death, on the trip to get back your Runes, to have a safe-guard in case of another death. In this scenario, were the player to die a second time before recovering their Runes, the Sacrificial Twig will be consumed and the original Runes will not be lost, as a ''second'' Rune recovery point will not be generated. Thus the player can try once again to recover their runes.
  • Important note: Does not prevent rune loss when dying to Death Blight. When afflicted by Death Blight, the Sacrificial Twig will remain equipped as if nothing had happened, and the player's Runes will be lost at their death's location as normal.

    • I see a lot of talk about the Haligtree revenants, but this also drops from the big one in Laskyar ruins. You can kill it about every 40-45 seconds, and one run of that (depending on whether you kill a pair of small revenants on the way) will also give about 1.5k runes, which isn't bad for 40 seconds at that point in the game. Just equip the heal incantation, it one shots the small guys and two shots the big one without it being able to react. You can meet the faith req with either the faith-knot tear or ommoners garb + two fingers heirloom. Unfortunately, this is still only like 1 twig every 20 minutes on average at 110 item discovery, assuming the drop rate is 3% like the revenant page says. But if you're farming runes with a method that gives like 1-2k per run, might as well do it here instead and get some twigs in the process.

This item seems incredibly useful! I will now proceed to forget to use it when the situation calls for it, die, lose all my runes, and then get mad.

        • it should be noted that this item does NOT prevent rune loss when using memory of grace, i lost 1m+ runes unknowingly when i used this and MoG in a spot i got stuck and in and couldn't get out.

So I was clearing the area around Fort Gael when the knight sniped me and I dropped runes that cost me 2 hours of playing. After respawning at the SoG I remembered that I had one of these on me. For some stupid reason I used just as much brain cells as it was needed to equip the thing right away.

Needless to say I died again before recovering my runes.

I can't find the one in Mistwood, nothing near the cemetery (neither the cliff one or the one by the beach) and nothing where it is marked on the map, where the **** is it? Am i blind or are the directions bad?

The comments wanting a permanent sacrificial twig or a merchant with an infinite supply are completely missing the point. The sense of jeopardy and tension from dying and potentially losing hundreds of thousands of runes/souls is a cornerstone of the dark souls games and bloodborne, a permanent twig makes that irrelevant.

In any case when you get to altus plateau there is a crystal tear called "twiggy cracked tear" from the erdtree in capital outskirts, it can be used in a wondrous physik and it works the same way as the sacrificial twig. Once the flask is used its effect will only last three minutes so you need to be careful when you use it. I found it most useful as an insurance policy when making a long jump high enough to die from fall damage, like the jump at raya lucaria academy to get the full moon crossbow.

Is there anywhere you can just buy them? Otherwise they seem like a finite resource which sucks for how useful they are

can definitely confirm they drop from revenants. just got a sacrificial twig from one of those in the Haligtree..which when you think about it makes it an incredible place to farm since there's a lot of them here, you kill easily the revenants with healing spells, and you get ton of runes on top of that.

This is very useful if you accidentally stumble into a boss encounter with a lot of runes. If you die on your first attempt, equip this for your second run. This allows you to grab your runes in a boss chamber and keep them if you die again. Then you can use them for upgrades before proceeding. Also useful if you find yourself running with a lot of runes in the open world and want insurance to keep them. They can be bought in the Roundtable for 3000 runes, so I always keep a few on me just in case.

Isolated Merchant near Ray Lucaria (closest grace is Main Academy Gate) also sells 3 Twigs for 3k runes each

The one in Altus Plateau is at the human camp to the south-west of the omenkiller one (not inside the omenkiller camp like it shows on the interactive map)

Can confirm that the twigs save runes dropped from an earlier death.

Was exploring consecrated snowfield, got killed and dropped over 200k runes, respawned at the snowfield catacombs with the bugged door (had touched the grace but not cleared the dungeon). Couldn't get out, so used twigs as I cleared the catacombs. Died a couple times using twigs, but when I did clear the dungeon I went out and recovered my original 200k+ runes.

I had one drop from the revenant in the Leyndell Sewers. the one in the huge scat room with the wraith callers. Pretty sure I had already killed it previously so it may be a random drop from these enemies too.

Sacrificial twigs rarely drop from the lesser wormface enemies just to the southwest of the bower of bounty site of grace in atlus plateau. They are just as useful for rune recovery, meaning that if you have any lost runes to recover you can equip a sacrificial twig to ensure that your runes stay where they are even if you perish before recovering.

Can confirm these work for rune recovery. If you die with this equipped, your runes will remain in the same spot.

Does this act like the ring of sacrifice where you’re going back to get your runes with this equiped and you can die and the runes will still be there?

Does anyone know if these work like the sacrifical rings in that if you have already died and have souls out in the world, equiping one of these means if you die trying to recover your souls the twig will break and prevent the souls in the world from despawning? I always found that to be the best use for the rings- to safeguard a dangerous soul recovery run when you had a lot souls out there.

They drop from the creatures they spew/release the death status ailment in the area by the Forest Spanning Greatbridge Grace

best way to take advantage of this, is to store it in the chest when you have a little to no runes, and take it out when you have a lot you dont want to lose

Rare drop by the large wraith that guards the waygate entrance to the Raya Lucaria Academy in the Laskyar Ruins. Probably needs verified but I found out that Heal does massive damage to the wraiths in the area so Heal can 2-shot the large wraith even at low levels. Has to be the AoE heal, obviously.
