I can buy them from the vendor, in the hold, as well as the poison and gravity ones. Basic ones and the better ones.

I think the reason these items are rare and unpurchasable is because they trivialize early Tree Sentinels.

On Single-Player I gave myself a bunch of these so I could test them properly; against most enemies these are just worse Fire Pots since most of the stones miss the target, but on Tree Sentinels who are big, slow, vulnerable to Fire, and get hit by every stone - the stone-clumps are like taking a Claymore-Landmine straight to the face.

My guess is that originally the stone-clumps were purchasable just like the rest of the elemental stones, but that during testing the Devs realized that they were basically an I-Win-Button versus every Tree Sentinel until Altus Plateau+. If they nerfed the stones they'd be utterly useless everywhere, but if they made them easy to get then it would encourage players to never properly learn how to fight the common-boss Tree Sentinels.

So these are probably rare because when they are easy to get they accidentally make Players worse at the game.

But if you are struggling with any Tree Sentinels: First off, git gud noob :P But second off, if you have some stone-clumps laying around they 5-7-shot most of the Trees from 20-30-yards away.

Just tried these out in a dual for the first time xoxoxox lovely, just a shame they are only a farm item.

Does restricting these almost useless items make the game a better challenge or are devs having a laugh? gg fromsoftware. Total fan. Don't get me started on preserving boluses.

@23Sep2022 that merchant sells poisoned stone clumps not explosive stone clumps. But speaking of merchants why the hell didn’t they have a merchant sells these, it’s not like they deal ridiculous damage.

They are terrible to farm, but best place I found is actually in Limgrave Tunnels, in the last room befor the boss chamber is a Stake of Marika and behind that there are 3 miners with the Backpacks (the only ones i found that drop the Clumps, rarely) and after the third you can jump down the elevator shaft, die and revive at the Stake. One run takes maybe 30 seconds, depending on how fast your loading speed is.

Morne Tunnel is probably the best place to farm clumps. Maybe situational but they seem to drop more often here than at Ruin strewn precipice

To craft Explosive Stone Clump you need the following Crafting Materials:

Uncraftable, but dropped from many Miner enemies.
                    Thanks for the help.

I guess the devs forgot about this item since it has no vendor or crafting recipe and can only be obtained by killing miner enemies. The standard explosive stone can be purchased after obtaining a bell bearing and both of the poison stones can be purchased from a merchant in caelid.

The one silver lining we have for not being able to buy/craft these is they drop from weak enemies at least.
