attributes required elden ring wiki guide 18Requires

Stars of Ruin is a Sorcery in Elden Ring. Stars of Ruin spell is a homing projectile spell that targets nearby foes and deals damage. Updated to Patch 1.07.

Legendary sorcery devised by Lusat, primeval sorcerers.

Fires twelve dark shooting stars that pursue the target. This sorcery can be cast while in motion. Charging increases potency.

When Lusat glimpsed into the primeval current, he beheld the final moments of a great star cluster, and upon seeing it, he too was broken.

Elden Ring Stars of Ruin Guide

  • Primeval Sorcery
  • Stamina Cost: 29
  • Deals magic damage.
  • This sorcery can be charged to increase its damage by 30% at the expense of a longer cast time. Godfrey Icon would further increase its damage when charged.
  • Damage can be boosted by 15% by wearing Lusat's Glintstone Crown. This comes at the cost of a 15% increase to ALL sorcery costs
  • It has significant tracking capabilities (even after the 1.06 nerf), and its stars can hit targets that run or dodge such as PvP opponents or enemies like Malenia.
  • When faced against this spell, it is better to dodge into it, otherwise not all stars will be dodged.
  • Has exactly the same range as Glintstone Stars and Star Shower.
  • Version history: patch 1.06 significantly reduced its tracking capability. Patch 1.07 reduced its FP cost from 38 to 32, and its Stamina cost from 33 to 29.

More like Spams of Ruin. Once you see someone using this in PvP you can expect them to spam it 10 times in a row, chug FP flask and repeat, cuz average mage has IQ below 70.

"death of a giant star cluster" "glintstone represents the residual life of stars" bro saw an entire family tree get wiped out and was heartbroken, get this man a puppy!

Is this ever used? I dont see anyone using it in pvp or pve. Why make a spell ( a legendary in this case which should defenetly be used considering that the legendary title gives it a connotation that its powerful) that its bad at its niche? Like the star spells should be used in scenarios where your enemy can dodge (ike Malenia) but its just not worth it considering that not every projectile hits and that it deals low damage.

One of the forbidden spells that may be employed to kill Mogh before he can get close enough to attack even once

I feel like it should at least have the same tracking capability as star shower while still doing more overall damage and poise damage, because it's literally supposed to be an "upgraded"(big quotation marks there) version of it. This is a legendary sorcery for christ's sake, yeah it was downright oppressive before the nerf but I think they might have overdone it.

There's plenty of Poise (and what not) nerfs and buffs that are only applied in PvP, so it's a bit weird that this got nerfed in PvE as well on top of its (needed) PvP nerf. Should have just made this another one of those crazy high Int-requirement spell (think Rennala's Full Moon, for example, so 70), keep it as it is in PvE or maybe slightly nerf it (but I really don't think it's *that* OP in terms of what casters can otherwise do in PvE, if they're not killing a boss with this, they'll kill it with Comet Azur or Meteorite of Astel....like.....) and then nerf it for PvP.

This thing is borderline useless in PVE. 32 FP for 2200 damage when sword dance costs 12 for 3k and phantom slash does 4k for 16? Wish they would stop treating PVE and PVP as the same when one is fighting trash mobs with 2k health minimum and bosses with 30k health and the other is fighting tarnished who never go over 1900 health.

Insane how so many people want to increase range and tracking on a spell that shoots like a machine gun and is pretty much unavoidable unless you immediately start running to the side. I bet it's these newcomers that never played any Dark Souls. They'd rather let the game play itself than make any effort to learn how to time their attacks correctly.

People say this thing got nerfed into uselessness, but when you've got one guy spamming this non-stop and another guy constantly chasing you down with a katana, it doesn't feel useless lol. Just a constant barrage of always on-point projectiles.

                      • Anonymous

Fires 12 projectiles, coincidentally there are also 12 creatures that are related to fallen stars. 1 Onyx Lord (not counting evergaol one due to I'm not sure how they work lore-wise like how there would be 2 Vykes if you count his Evergaol), 5 Lesser Alabaster Lords, 2 Falling Star Beasts, 2 Astels, and 2 Malformed Stars.

                        • Anonymous

How’s this for a fix: as each star fires, the tracking gets better and better. So the first few stars will only go where your target was when you cast it (ie no tracking), and progressively better and better until you actually need to dodge the last few stars (rather than just strafe everything).

"Patch 1.06 slightly reduced it's tracking ability." LOL I have been away from the game awhile but was just messing with it and it's been straight nerfed out of existence in PvP. Wow. I mean it was very powerful and annoying to deal with, but its now laughable.

                            • Anonymous

After nerfs this spell is a shadow of its former self, i would highly advise against using it, there are better option that are more mana efficient, have better tracking and are easier to get.

                              • Anonymous

Still has better DPS than star shower, but the tracking nerf has pretty much left it as a strictly PvE spell. Small and nimble targets will easily avoid it and cripple your DPS.

                                • Anonymous

Possible solution how to fix them in both PVE and PVP without making their spam overtuned in PVP again:
                                  - Reduce number of stars to 9 and slightly increase damage of each star.
9 stars would be in line with other upgraded tracking spells like Ancient Death Rancor and Collapsing Stars and would deal less total damage than current 12, but would be more viable in late-game, where basic resistances are high enough.
                                  - Increase their range and tracking to match Ancient Death Rancor and Collapsing Stars. Even though they might seem similar after that, they would not be - ADR has slow moving projectiles with long lifetime and increased poise damage, being the pressure / distraction tool, Collapsing Stars pull enemy (which is not always what you want to do, especially if you play a ranged build) and Stars of Ruin would be the dps option with less poise damage than ADR and no pull compared to CS.
                                  - Bring its mana cost in line with these 2 as well - ADR costs 21, CS cost 18, so 20-25 Mana cost is reasonable. As Star Shower costs 23, 24-25 seems the fitting number.

As a result we get a tool that is still an upgrade to Star Shower (more stars and more total damage), but is in line with other Intelligence tracking tools and just has a different purpose.

Hot take: This spell was always trash PVE wise, people just liked to spam it in PVP

                                        I would know.
                                        I was one of them.

Honestly for pvp its only useful as a setup for another spell. People will dodge it 100% but it lasts quite some time and you can cast another spell before this one stops. I like to catch running guys with shattering crystal

The tracking is so bad, it needs to be buffed, both in pvp and pve, it's supposed to be legendary spell, so it's supposed to be better than star shower..

                                            • Anonymous

The tracking nerf was too big, the tracking was indeed broken but it didnt need to be nerfed that much, there should be a middle in everything, now it's just useless in pvp

Hopefully from will start unnerfing some stuff in the future

                                              • Anonymous

Okay, so, to be fair, the old Stars of Ruin was pretty terrible to play against and needed to be nerfed in some way. It was too oppressive and braindead to play against. I've played on both sides of it, and as fun as it is to just L1 spam some other L1 spamming Rivers player, it gets old pretty quickly.

That being said, From has obviously overcorrected and the spell is now near worthless, in both PvE and PvP. The spell still does adequate damage, but the tracking is so bad now that only about 1/3 to 1/2 of the projectiles actually hit anything moving faster than a deliberately slow walk. I very frequently do online PvE, and the spell is a waste of FP against most bosses. The tracking is so bad that anything that constantly moves, even dragon sized enemies, are only being hit by maybe 1/3 of the projectiles, and if you try to stand back to account for the tracking, then you very quickly realize that it's one of the shortest ranged spells in the game. It's fine against slow, man sized or larger enemies like Elemer or a Tree Guardian, but for very fast or thrashy enemies, like basically any dragon or the Ulcerated Tree Spirit, it's hilariously bad.

I'm all for it being **** in PvP, but can it please be at least worth considering for PvE? It's one of the coolest looking spells in the game but every time I cast ity soul dies a little.

                                                  • has much better tracking
                                                  • deals much more poise damage

                                                  • has more range
                                                  • honestly believe it does more damage that Stars Of Ruined because Star
Shower can actually hit moving enemies
[ CONCLUSION ] fromsoft = maidenless people who hate blood and intelligence... instead Elden Stars (STARS?) and Wave Of Gold (northern lights ?) Is for faith, plus faith has a better, a much better moonlight greatsword, and faith is more connected to blood than arcane, like how ??? and why ?? are blood thorns for Faith instead of arcane ?

"Repeated testing shows that it is not possible to fully dodge this sorcery with a standard roll" that's very inaccurate, as it's super easy to dodge (e.g. all you have to do is run left or light or roll twice and you'll take absolutely no damage.

"This sorcery becomes much more viable as a PvP sorcery if the character has the FP to use it regularly" that def. is not true at all anymore, since it is the worst pvp spell now.

"high tracking, high poise damage" that's not true at all, since it has horrid tracking and basically deals zero poise damage (at least in pvp)

FROM hates intelligence & arcane as they are constantly nerfing it... once a nerf is made, Elden Ring becomes that much less enjoyable.

Stars of Ruin does significantly higher damage (at least against this enemy) even without the crown and without the optimal bonuses. People who are saying this is trash are pre-nerf whiners who are mad they can’t cheese in PvP anymore.

                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                          • Anonymous

Was helping out a friend in Raya Lucaria and got invaded by a pure int build that spammed this the whole time. Its so fun to just run circles and not get hit by this. When the game first came out I exclusively used this as finisher on duels, I wonder if that strategy still works

                                                                            • Anonymous

After many PVP matches and invasions, can confirm that the latest patch nerfed this badly. It is way easier to dodge and is now easily outclassed by Star Shower for PVP purposes. Still works decently in PVE but I would still recommend Star Shower for a couple of reasons.

                                                                              1. Stars of Ruin has less range and inferior tracking, yet it costs 65% more FP to cast. It does more damage but the tradeoff doesn't seem worth it, especially since the nerf.

2, Star Shower is superior in PVP. Not only does it have longer range but the stars move quicker when closing in on the target and the tracking is amazing. You will land far more consistently against opponents vs Stars of Ruin.

Overall, with a good amount of INT and a proper setup, Star Shower is just a generally better workhorse spell due to superior damage to FP ratio, better range and tracking and far better utility in PVP situations.

                                                                              • Anonymous

I can agree that it needed a nerf, but a spell that is sold by its tracking (even in its description) being able to get not just dodged, but avoided by just running to side? That seems counterintuitive.

                                                                                • Anonymous

I never used it before nerf cause you know why, but now i do and i like it a lot. Overall damage is better than star shower, maybe lower on one star? Im not sure. But basically its stronger, looks cooler but has worse tracking. Its much mofe likely to hit when opponent is in mid range rather that near the end of spell range - this is where people can just outrun it to the side.

Also it is very strong for PVE

                                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                                    don't worry, it's still fine.
it's just that since it was never meant to be spammed( like all the other broken stuff that got finally nerfed with the last patch ), people will now have to figure out other ways to use it.

                                                                                    • Anonymous

Idk why people are saying it's dead. I'm honestly getting the exact same results as I have been pre nerf though they're only on duels since I don't invade much. Maybe in invasions or 1v2/1v3 PvP situations this spell isn't as good anymore but idk, feels pretty much the same except I occasionally end up doing no damage since the enemy dodges it instead of hitting for 200 since at least 2 beams would always hit without BHS. And if I'm being honest, that's not a deal breaker for me since I'm confident enough in hitting with other spells for more damage. I don't like the "lol casual" or "git gud" mentality a lot of Souls players have but in this instance, it legit feels like the only people who think the nerf killed this spell are those that spam it or gankers.

                                                                                      • Anonymous

I'd say it's still good, it's just that now you don't have to be good at touhou to dodge the whole thing.

Instead, you can just strafe to the side like most other spells

                                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                                              • Anonymous

Dodging inwards totally breaks the tracking this spell often allowing you to take low to no damage. Also it has 0 poise break if you're really annoyed just run through it and attack the mage. Eternal darkness, erdtree greasheild, any high magic resistance shield using magic shield grease or scholars shield 100% block this. Honestly an entirely over-rated and generally useless ability in pvp if you know how to counter it. This spell is only effective on people at mid range who dodge to the side instead of in. On my battle mage or my melee only took I literally dumpster mages that spam this. If they're using blood hound step just sever BHS is cheating anyway.

                                                                                                • Anonymous

Even if you somehow keep distance this and Cannon of Haima are the only two things people actually fall for in pvp, otherwise a sorcery build is just support for your melee friend in a gank: sorcery in its current form just isn't reactive enough vs melee.

So if you nerf stars of ruin, what deterrent do mages have against katana lovers or blood/frost spam pokes on dual halberd, except build something else and level yourself out of a sorcery build? Actual guidance would be nice here.

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

Most sorceries are easy to dodge in pvp. This one isn't broken, it's just popular, because it's almost always some guaranteed damage. It's not the fault of magic users that almost every other spell is garbage in pvp. It's also extremely expensive to use.

                                                                                                              • Anonymous

Hold on lemme blood hound step away, spam this, chug, then somehow get cornered in a circular arena. Oh yeah I have 19 vigor but 80 mind. I think I should keep leveling up until I’m 170. What do you mean chugging is not allowed in duels? You PvPers and your unspoken rules. Well if you didn’t rush me I wouldn’t have to spam blood hound step. You’re just mad about all the build variety. Invasions shouldn’t be in the game anyways.

                                                                                                                • Anonymous

I don’t understand why people are hating on this spell. Yes it’s powerful and can be cheesy but it has its limitations, the huge FP cost for one.

And to the larger point of so called “overpowered” abilities or weapons, so what? The game gives you these tools and if you want to have an easier time or are struggling with something then you can use them. If you want to feel more heroic or whatever don’t.

I can’t speak to the PvP aspect because I only play the game offline but if PvP action is what you’re looking for then this game isn’t exactly the best place for it, with lack of balance being the least of the problems.

What folks are describing here is literally being upset because they brought a knife to a magic missile machine gun fight. You know perfectly well the fight wasn’t fair so don’t get upset if/when you lose.

Paired with Godfrey Icon, Graven Mass Talisman, and possibly (if your setup allows) Radagon Icon (unless your Dex is at least 70, then no benefit) and wearing Lusat’s Glintstone Crown with a staff in one hand and something with Bloodhound Step in the right hand, you can be a boss wrecking machine. I just solo’d Maliketh (no ash summons or any summons) with that combo, and it’s amazing for fast moving, agile bosses. I also used this setup for Godskin Duo, again with no summons and it SLAYS.

What I like most about it is that, although it’s powerful, I still felt like I needed to learn the bosses’ moves and actually get good at timing and dodges. It didn’t feel like a Cerulean Hidden Tear nuke, it was just a very potent tool. Still took tons of tries and I learned their moves throughly, just a great asset in the toolbox.

I only really see this spell mentioned for PVP but it’s incredibly powerful, fun, and visually stunning in PVE as well!

Between this and so much more it at least appears like the PvP element was an afterthought and they didn't spend much time on making things balanced or reasonable.
