Discus of Light is an Incantation in Elden Ring. Discus of Light spell deals holy damage in a AoE. Updated to Patch 1.07.

One of the incantations of the Golden Order fundamentalists.

Produces a ring of light and fires it forwards. The ring of light returns to a position close to the caster before disappearing. This incantation can be cast repeatedly.

A gift from the young Miquella to his father, Radagon.

Elden Ring Discus of Light Guide

  • Golden Order Incantation
  • Stamina Cost: 20 [outdated as of 1.07, needs updating]
  • Deals holy damage and 4 stance damage.
  • Note: Significantly buffed in Patch 1.07 - FP cost reduced from 9 to 3, cast speed has been increased and the halo is now faster, lasts longer and has more range. In addition, stamina cost has been reduced.
  • The caster can use a spell parry such as Carian Retaliation or Golden Retaliation to deflect a returning discus and proc the effect of the spell parry used.
  • The disc is thrown from the height of the character's face, but for some reason it returns to the thighs, so be wary of low objects and ledges if you're trying to parry it.
  • Casting it will make the PC take a step forward. Some ledges will prevent the caster from over-stepping and falling off. You can use this to guarantee the disc doesn't break on a ledge when you're trying to parry it. It's a mechanic inherited from Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
  • On the send stroke it passes through enemies and stops upon hitting any obstacle. It can damage an enemy once.
  • On the return stroke it passes through enemies and is destroyed by any obstacle. It can damage an enemy once.
  • If it contacts an enemy with a shield, the shield will reduce the damage [Needs testing to determine if it reduces the damage of the disc or the damage taken by the specific enemy, and testing to determine if it's dependent on the shield facing the caster. The phrasing was unclear].
  • Horse-casting it lets Torrent trot, giving you more mobility.
  • While not locked on, it exhibits the obnoxious horizontal dead angle aim "assist" (sabotage) many other projectiles have. If the angle you're firing at is mostly horizontal, it'll turn completely horizontal, making it impossible to hit most things horizontally in front of you, rendering free aiming worthless most of the times.

As soon as you meet Goldmask go back to brother Corhyn and tell him. Go back to Goldmask and brother Corhyn will be there to sell the incantation. Make sure to buy it straight away from him there otherwise they will both move to the royal capital near the arena.

using this boomerang of death with the sword of milos in my offhand. f.p. cost = nothing.
intelligence and faith are in the mid to high fourties.
three quick shots take out a giant prawn.
quick to cast with possibly the best range of any spell/incantation in the game.

This spell apparently deals 2 poise damage in pve, making it the most cost efficient way to stop enemy poise from regenerating using fp, since you just throw one out for 3 fp, and the enemies poise hp stops regenerating, no need for throwing daggers or arrows (or bestial sling, since its twice as expensive, even though it deals 4 poise damage, it is useless when just trying to stop poise regen)

This thing absolutely slaps in NG+ with 2 order seals, the sun hat, 80/80 INT/FTH and holy/incant damage increasing talismans. The range is better than most sorceries, the damage is great, and the incredibly low FP cost lets you spend your FP on expensive buffs/heals instead.

What really makes this great though is the low stamina cost on top of everything else. You can spam it mindlessly while the damage stacks up.

3FP, holy moly. With a Pool of 230+ you can Spam the pain Frisbee all day every day. What other spell gives you 1k++ dmg with some Support Talisman for 3FP?

Turned Fortissax into a joke, I don't think I was ever in range of any of his attacks. I didn't even realize he has 80 holy resist. 40 int/faith with Gold Mask, Order Seal, Sacred Scorpion, Ritual Sword, Holy Cracked Tear and Golden Vow for buff. Sacred Order would have stacked too but I don't have it.

Easily my favorite spell in the game, it made me regret ever playing a sorcery build.

If you need to farm the inverted hawk greatshield in Nokron use this and sacred relic sword. You’ll do fast work

This spell isn’t better than glintsones, it’s just different and comes with its own flaws. It flies perfectly straight, no tracking, so anything that isn’t running right at you will be missed (whereas a glintstone, or even a lightning spear, will hit most things that aren’t specifically dodging). Even that slow strafe to the side mobs do will cause a miss, as well as their normal out of combat walking. You throw it from your left and right sides, so the environment can mess it up. You’re locked into the animation 100% (whereas glinstones still let you slowly move). It’s much longer to cast than any of the basic glinstones, so you will get hit if you try to cast in medium to short range. The damage is technically split into two parts, the cast and return, further discouraging medium to short range use. It definitely has its uses, but a pure caster is likely to be better served by other spells that are more consistent or damaging.

can be pushed down to 2 fp cost with incantation scarab and primal glintblade, not like you'd ever need that

why does this require int I'm a dum prophet :c

Actually I noticed there's barely any pure faith holy damage

Insane spell. Insane damage for 3 fp. Insane range (more than comet). Insane speed. And epic pose. My build - knight of all elements with 80 int + 40 faith + 32 str.

Ok. So everyone's saying that this spell is really good and I want to like it. I did a setup where I bum rushed Altus, grabbed the spell, Goldmask's mask, sacred order and shared order. I've got sacred order on both my weapons, shared order activated, and the mask, and it's still struggling to take out the basic soldiers wandering around Altus. They just poise through it or go around it, come up and hit me, and then the spell takes too long to cast to get it out again and I just have to switch to my melee weapons. I've got a +9 finger seal and minimum stats. Is it because I'm too low level? What am I missing here? This seems like it takes too long to cast to be useful. If it was as fast as glinstone pebble, then it would be good.

This spell needs a nerf. 500 damage per hit in pvp? That way too much. And it returns, adding another 500 for 1000 damage every discus. 1000 damage for 3 go is absolutely ridiculous. This is another example of fromsofts horrible balancing, and this needs a nerf right away.

Amusingly, if you one shot something with the Ancestral Spirit Horn equipped you’ll never be drained of FP. Discus costs 3, the horn regains 3 on kill.

Don’t sleep on this spell, it’s an absolute demon for ***h damage and utility.

If you optimize for damage on a pure caster, you can make it deal absurd amounts for how little it costs using Golden Order Seal, and can even reduce it’s total cast cost to 1 FP per cast. This spell will literally carry you through the whole game if you build around it, and it’s damage can even reasonably stand up against the endgame “Vatican rush” of bosses despite being pure holy. Plus, if you have enough stats to make this guy viable, you can cast Triple Rings and Radagon’s Ring, which are ***h super strong spell options as well.

If int-faith isn’t your cup of tea, get the bare minimum stats to cast it with a crappy seal, then use it in conjunction with Erdtree Greatshield or any medium shield with Carian Retaliation. You can interact with the projectile when it returns to you, so you can either use Carian Retaliation to parry it and get a free phalanx or use Golden Retaliation to launch the holy damage equivalent of a glintstone comet at your foes whenever your heart desires.

This is my favorite incantation by far, and it should be yours. Unbelievably good spell for how unassuming it is.

ppl only say this is bad because they played a faith build in ds3, its pretty good, just wish holy damage wasnt smashed into paste in the endgame

The Single most Efficient spell in the whole game , incantation scarab gives this a whopping 1 FP per cast.

And on a fundamentalist build with golden order , goldmask and 40 FTH /INT this bad boy does 1500 Per cast .

We all bullied Way of white Corona , well be careful who you call ugly in highschool because god damn this got quite the glowup

Currently running a Fundamentalist build (planning on respeccing to a Destined Death build for NG+ since I thought that might be fun) and this is by far the best one on the kit. Ridiculously low FP cost, great damage for being Holy and said FP cost, and comes out pretty fast. Literally the only usable Holy tool against Maliketh/Radabeast

If you kill the Goldmask before speaking to brother Corhyn, can you still get the Discus of light and if not, is there another way to get it ?

If you play a Faith build in PvE you simply *have* to have this move on your belt, gets so much better too as your stats increase

This lets me fulfill my Xena, Warrior Princess fantasy. As Brother Corhyn taught me this incantation, I heard Dean Pelton's voice in my head saying: "This better not awaken anything in me..."

I think this is meant to be faith alternative to Carian Slicer, except better in pve against stupid mobs. But after Slicer nerf, this thing is better in pve and even pvp. I would know since i respecced from sorceries to incantations.

As mentioned below, it’s Godly with max cast speed. At 125+ 30 dex for tree spear and you got a weapon with really good damage that can be buffed by orders blade and synergizes well with discus and Tripple rings and you got max cast speed with radagon icon. And tree spear L2 gives 10% spell dmg buff in pve. Identical to having a GO order seal in terms of spell boost.

                                                            • Anonymous

It’s AOE. It’s long ranged. It’s cheap. It’s high damage that hits twice. It’s fast. What more could you possibly want? This is such a great, efficient incantation.

                                                              • Anonymous

going from 12 dex to 42 dex (by equipping Radagon’s Icon which is 30 “virtual dex” for casting speed purposes) makes a decently noticeable difference for (at least the first cast of) this incant, and going up another 30-ish dex (by respec-ing so you can do 40 dex plus Radagon for 70 effective dex, which is the cap for casting speed improvement) makes another noticeable difference. It feeeeels like starter Discus is a little too much on the slow side to be able to get away with using it as your primary attack all the time, while 70 Dex Discus crosses over into being fast enough to use as a primary attack. So my currently level 59 discus spam character (named Cheese Pizza cuz i feel like i’m slinging spinning pizza doughs at people) has 40 Dex in exchange for extremely low vigor and endurance and mind, leaving some budget for Faith (and for getting Int to 13 ofc). Faith is a lot more important than Mind if you’re focusing on this spell, the FP cost is cheap but you need the damage to be reliable. If you want to full meme it I recommend goldmask’s mask (more damage), Godslayer Seal (good seal for a long time after 27 Faith), offhand Golden Order seal (more damage), sacred scorpion charm (more damage), ritual sword talisman (more damage), and holy shrouding cracked tear plus faith+10 tear (more damage). This can all be grabbed before Leyndell. Radagon Icon requires killing the dog and Godslayer Seal requires killing Margit. Some other items in there that take killing minibosses.

                                                                • The people who edit this wiki never cease to amaze me. "Stamina cost: 20 [outdated as of 1.07 - needs updating]"

If you're gonna edit the page to say it's wrong, then why not fix it while you're there?

                                                                  • Anonymous

This incantation allows you to throw a little frisbee of light that penetrates through everything until it hits an object like a wall or a breakable box, and after a second of waiting there being stuck, it starts its journey back towards you for a second hit. The second hit will be catching people from behind their camera if you can line it so it makes it very handy, but the spell itself is incredibly cheap and efficient, hits for a good deal especially if you consider penetration of multiple targets and the second hit, can be chain casted to create a dangerous place for your enemies to be in and furthermore it has absolute bonkers of a range, riddiculusly long distance. Shame I've been sleeping on it, seems bread & butter from now on.

                                                                    • Anonymous

Now I have to wait til nee game + to get it and that's lame.

                                                                      • Anonymous

I don't really want to have to use this or Frenzy Barret .50 cal to reach an enemy with a ranged spell on my faith build

                                                                        • Anonymous

I've been waltzing around with the Ancestral Spirit's Horn, and Cold Sacrificial Axe with Bloodhound's Step, and the Carian Filigreed Crest. Since like this, Discus of Light costs 3 FP and Bloodhound's Step costs 4 FP, you can evade easily and the Discus will still return to you at a new position to hit the enemy again. On top of that, the Axe also regenerates FP on kill so in tandem with the Talisman, you're basically an endless fountain of FP that never runs out.

The fact that Ambush Shard (23 INT) costs 13 FP, but Discus of Light deals 50% more damage on hit, hits twice, penetrates enemies like a comet spell across it's entire range, and is viable in direct combat is nuts.

The fact that Starlight, a spell that's just a glorified torch, costs 9 FP and this costs 3 FP is UTTERLY INSANE.

                                                                          • Anonymous

You can make an entire build around these golden order spells and this one has been annihilating limgrave ever since i returned to it.

                                                                              So much fun.

                                                                              • Anonymous

This incantation now has a wonderful damage-FP ratio; even at only 10 Focus it can be used so many times that it is now a highly effective long-range addition for melee characters.

                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                                    • Anonymous

It's like the faith version of comet in terms of damage, range, and piercing for minimal FP. Well worth dipping into 13 int for a faith build.

                                                                                      • Anonymous

Most FP efficient incantation in the game now. There is literally no reason not to use this on every enemy in the game.

                                                                                        • Anonymous

I started a Golden Order character recently, having tried this incantation a while ago on my first play through.

This incantation is now very good! With 15 mind, you can effectively replace your melee attack with this, and 2 discs will kill most enemies. Very FP efficient, and the range is very far. This might be so useful that faith characters should find a way to run it, although I have only tried it with the Golden Order Seal and 50/50 int/fai.

                                                                                          • Anonymous

I really wish there was a 'fundamentalist' starting class that started with this spell, 13int/13faith and low everything else with 7 arcane like the vagabond. Insane the most efficient golden order build is vagabond because it has the lowest arcane.

                                                                                            • Anonymous

Extremely good for a holy-focused faith build with the downside of having to waste points in INT but it's well worth it. The disc is small but flies EXTREMELY far and fast (like maximum lock-on range far), a stark contrast to the slow and short ranged incantations faith usually has. Hits twice, costs practically nothing, and can be chain cast to the point where you'll be poise-breaking large foes through sheer volume of shots.

                                                                                              • Anonymous

I consider this the best pvp incantation that’s “honest.” I’ve killed three people at once with this in a tight corridor. An invader used endure, double straight swords to run me down a buttress but the stacked rings melted him even with endure. I don’t even use gold mask, just 50 fth, 37 int, golden order seal and ritual sword talisman. Triple rings are useful for mixups and area denial but discus is the real killer.

                                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                                                    • Anonymous

It's only 3 FP! It hits twice, and it chunks fairly hard on a Golden Order seal with decent stat investment 40 int/40 faith. You can pretty much clear an entire area up until the boss with just this spell reliably

                                                                                                      • Anonymous

If I'm on flat ground, aim up, and throw a fire pot as far as I can lug it, that's about the range of 1.07 Discus of Light. It's not quite Bolt of Gransax range, but it's not far off. Also, 3 FP makes it the most efficient damage spell in the entire game, even if the enemy has 40% holy resist.

                                                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                                                          • Anonymous

FP cost of a single cast is offset by Ancestral Spirit's Horn. This might actually make it a staple spell like Glintstone Shard or Catch Flame that can be used a lot throughout legacy dungeons without draining all your Baja Blasts.

                                                                                                            • Massively buffed in 1.07. It was already one of the best incantations for general combat (aside from dealing holy damage...) but now it's increadibly cheap, fast to cast and deals good damage (up to twice).

                                                                                                              • Anonymous

                                                                                                                  • Anonymous

I'm looking forward to the upgraded version, even if it won't be the most useful due to the fact that Holy damage is crap in the endgame.

                                                                                                                    • Anonymous

It’s actually very good, though niche, in pvp. For an actual fundamentalist just use triple rings but this single ring is good for faith builds who chose 13 int and very high fth like me. This can cause chaos in conjunction with elden stars or crucible spells. My favorite use is to cast this then cast barrier of gold/regen in the middle of a duel. Yes bestial sling is better but bestial sling is cheese. This is honest and allows some very interesting frame traps when it comes back. It’s also easy to free aim since people will just walk left to dodge instead of rolling and eat it.

                                                                                                                      • Has unlimited range on return, and will still penetrate all enemies, but it still goes away on contact with terrain. Could be somewhat abusable, if there were any way to travel faster than it, which there isn't, as far as I'm aware.

                                                                                                                        • Anonymous

As of 1.04, the cast speed on this thing is still too slow to be useable. Also given its small shape compared to Triple rings, there's nothing about this spell that really shouts "yes, this has clear reasons to use over other spells."

                                                                                                                          • Anonymous

After the buff, this is now the most damage/fp efficient spell in the game on single targets. It's not that close, either, hitting between 150% to 200% as hard as other contenders like Slicer, Pebble, Sling and Catch Flame thanks to hitting twice per cast. It has longer range than all of them, too, and it's even better against crowds. The downside of this is that the cast time and dps are bad compared to the other workhorse spells, and by the time you can get this you should have more than enough flasks to stop caring about pure fp efficiency.

                                                                                                                            • Anonymous

Seems to be the same cast time and the triple rings cost 23 FP, whereas this costs 11. So it's less than 3x the cost for 3 rings and the triple rings are bigger, too. That spell is found in haligtree.

                                                                                                                              • Anonymous
