Summon Range Calculator in Elden Ring is used to determine if players can connect with each other in Online play. Players can input the host level into the calculator to determine the range of levels of players who can enter the host's game.
If you are looking to play with friends, please use a password: this will remove the limits to multiplayer and scale the strong party down to the lower one.

Summon Range Calculator for Elden Ring
Level Based Matchmaking
Multiplayer matchmaking is based around Level. The level range is determined from the host perspective, meaning that all calculations are based on the Host player level.
The Summon Range Calculator Formula is based on community testing. Testing was done by user Chizfreak who confirmed nuanced PvP ranges. Other testing is from the Reddit Post "Unofficial Matchmaking Information" by Cyklov .
NOTE: While the formula is correct the calculator itself is wrong due to how it rounds the numbers, for example 139 can match down to 125 when invading.
Input your Level into the calculator and you'll know the Level range for players that can join your game and the range of game Levels that you can join.
NOTE: In Elden Ring, the game takes into account your character level and in addition your highest ever obtained upgraded weapon level. Even if you store or discard the upgraded weapon, the game will still consider that you owned that weapon in the past and adjust its matchmaking accordingly. This creates an issue if you obtain Rogier's Rapier +8 (given by Rogier), the Banished Knight's Halberd +8, dropped from Edgar at Revenger's Shack, or the +7 Spear dropped by killing Patches, since the game will automatically assume your highest upgraded weapon is +8. Therefore, it is advised to interact with these NPC's only after you initially have upgraded a weapon to +8 yourself, or save them for another playthrough.

Weapon-Based Matchmaking
Matchmaking also takes into consideration the players' weapons, calculating Level + Upgrade Level to determine multiplayer ranges. When doing this, the maximum upgrade level that you've achieved will be taken into consideration and you'll be paired with someone with a similar value.
*It's important to note that this doesn't take into consideration the highest level Weapon you are currently holding or that you have stored, but the actual highest Weapon that you've had.
*The current values reflect on Smithing Stones only, not their Somber Smithing Stones counterpart. These stones seem to differ in their multiplayer ranges. The Smithing Stones also vary in their respective plus and minus matchmaking ranges based on the hosts' upgrade level. These ranges change at the following upgrade levels:
+ 0 to + 5 have a plus range of 3 | + 0 to +9 have a minus range of 3 |
+ 6 to + 12 have a plus range of 4 | + 10 to + 16 have a minus range of 4 |

Optimal levels for Co-op and Invasion
While sitting on one of these level tiers, you can summon phantoms and be summoned by hosts while also invading the most often, according to what levels and weapon upgrades other players naturally reach at, mix-maxed by the Summon Range Calculator in order to avoid overlap into other tiers of play and allow interaction across all areas of Elden Ring. Refer to the Game Progress Route guide for which areas you'll likely encounter other players based on your level tier.
Note: There is an exception with the level tier RL150 or higher with max gear being more ideal for NG+ or exclusively duels in specific areas.

52 | +7 (+3) |

This is how i level up and limit myself in each part of the game,
RL13 WL0(0) to RL25 WL+3(+1) on Limgrave,
RL38 WL+6(+2) to RL50 WL +9(+3) on Liurnia,
RL63 WL+12(+4) to RL75 WL+15(+5) for Leyndell, Gelmir and Caelid,
RL88 WL+18(+6) to RL100 WL+21(+7) on Mountain of Giants,
RL113 +24(+8) to RL125 +25(+10) for the rest of the game
I keep my character on these rune level for certain purpose,
RL25 WL+3(+1) trolling people on lower level
RL125 WL MAX to do colosseum matchmaking
RL139 WL MAX for wide build variety and invasion
RL150 WL MAX to reach most PvEr, build kinda not matter anymore here somehow so this is just to troll PvEr
RL306 WL MAX to bully PvEr whos out of range, ussualy i'm being a complete bastard here but, these people deserves it, learn how to make a properly working build man

If i get example the rogiers rapier which has a +8 upgrade, is there any way to remove it from my inventory so it does not increase my invasion levels?
- Anonymous
Whelp, I've learned something new. Apparently, if you level up without going above +4 regular and use taunter's tongue around the lake, you'll find plenty of players, especially 60 - 90. You'd think there'd be people with good equipment, but no , I just get mostly average Mages and Samurais. I'm surprised I'm even finding those kind of players despite being level 83.

Good upgrade levels for max matching range are: R3, R5=S2, R8, R11, S5, R14, R17=S7, R19, S8.
If using somber +3(reg7), get a regular to +8 to widen matching range. Similarly, if using a somber +4(reg10), get a regular to +11. Somber +1 and +6 are inferior, since they target same but narrower range, compared to somber +2 and +7 respectively.
Here is matching table with somber and matching range size included. Columns are: Regular, Somber, Min &max matching level, Matching range regular & somber:

wwwoooow... The level is so busted. level 30 with a +3 weapon, suddenly i'm summoned onto the Godrick Fight... The main story bosses are spread so damn thing that helping with low leveled bosses is IMPOSSIBLE.

This explains why my Level 1 character isn't getting summoned. I've got Rogier's rapier but also several of my own weapons leveled to +8
Lots of people are playing with +12-13 (+5-6) between levels 60-70 these days. I do co-op at this level and accidentally over-leveled my weapons to 13 (6) and still get damn near instant matchmaking for both co-op and invading.

Do weapons that drop pre-upgraded effect the summon range restriction?
Eg. Rogier's Rapier +8 being given to you, Patches' spear dropping at +7, or the Banished Knight's Halberd +8 dropped by the guy from the castle
Trying to make an early-game assist character and want to know if I should avoid touching anything...

Demon's souls did it right and did it first. NO stupid weapon level matchmaking, no stupid password matchmaking. ONLY soul//rune level matching. That' s the best.

In my experience, 125-150is the most popular invasion sweet spot. 200 isn't too bad either.
But 168-200 seems sort of dead and I can't even seem to get anything at the 60-90 range.

Hope in the next entry, invasions get more love.
Hate how there is little point and only possible if the host already summoned phantoms.
Even in this toned down state people still cry about scumbag invaders.
Get a grip casuals or ruin another game.

One of you lovely Recusants participated in jolly cooperation today and it was appreciated- War Dead Catacombs isnt the easiest place to help a fresh Host navigate, so you pointing out where to go was clutch for the Host. We got the Putrid Spirit on the 2nd try. Sorry about that Hunter.

It’s almost like this developer doesn’t want anyone to play PvP. This is way over complicated and also not even close to anything I would ever think up to sell.
Look just give us an options menu where we can choose to get invaded by maxed out soul crushers or I can turn invasions off and goof around with my friends without having to deal with the, sorry to say, overly toxic community all the time.

i got bored in 150pvp and i want to create lvl 80 +4/+5 somb weapon upgrade cap but i have a question. will finishing the game and going to ng+ effect lvl 80pvp character created mainly for invasions or not.
- Anonymous
200 is as high as anyone should go. 140-165 is ideal. 80-120 is nothing but short little one shot scraps for very, very limited builds that repeat the exact same two or three actions, over and over.
- Anonymous
I really wish they removed both upper and lower caps to both Coop and PvP. I wanna be able to play with someone half or twice my level and get invaded by a ng+6 recusant, darn it.

Anybody know how colosseum matchmaking works? I don't have anybody to test with but i believe there's a 30 point range at level 150. I think a level 150 can match with a 120 or 180. I did some non-scientific tests by using different characters here and i think 30 is right. With a level 150 and 180 i kept matching with the same dude. I didn't have a 120 to test with but the number should go either direction. Has anybody seen a calculator for the colosseum?
- Anonymous
This should mention Spirit Ash Upgrades count towards your summoning levels as well. Have tested and ruined low level sunbro character by leveling them. I am almost certain they are counted the same as unique weapon upgrades.
- Anonymous
Helping others in co-op is so fun, especially doing levels like stormveil castle. But I don't like this lvl ranges bs...I can't find anyone, I up a lvl and suddenly get summoned a lot. This needs rework...btw, what's the most common lvl ppl do caelid/Redmane? I'm thinking rl60 with an upgrade lvl of 10 normal/4 somber?
- Anonymous
I'm not a fan of these limits. Most players usually don't summon because they can't beat a boss, they summon for the sake of jolly cooperation, but even if that was the case, I'd love to just be a sunbro and help bad and/or new players against early bosses.
Tiptoeing around specific character and weapon levels don't exactly create organic gameplay.
I like level 139 because it allows me to play with both the 125 crowd and the 150 crowd, as well as the ~170 fresh NG+ crowd. I feel like it should be a fairly active level range for those reasons.
- Anonymous
It's cool to see what cosplay builds people can manage in the >35 range. I've seen frenzy flame maidens, banished knights, drake knights, haima sorcerers, finger maidens, tree sentinels, a vulgar militiaman, a fire monk and a "dominula local." Seeing one of these guys makes the slog of double-antspur dupevaders worth it.
- Anonymous
The calculator here rounds up the numbers for things like the 'lower level limit', when in game like every other stat it rounds down. A level 139 will invade 125 because 0.9*139 is 125.1 where it gets rounded down; and a level 155 will invade 139 because 0.9*155 is 139.5.
That means for meta level invaders you want to be 125, 139 or 155 where previously it was thought to be 125, 138, 153.
According to the Rune Arc page of the Wiki, only Bloody Fingers killing the host, summoned collaborators defeating the boss and blues killing red invaders get it...so what would be the point of ganking reds with summons, farming runes in pve is much easier.
Do you get something else as the host?

I really can’t get over how stupid this is. Like really a triple A development company real made the stupid decision to have level caps and mins in which you can play with other players (randoms) when the game literally has a perfectly good, working scaling system In which if you summons a friend with a password even if they are 200 levels above your level, they still get scaled down to whoever’s world they got summoned to. So why tf does that not exist for all multiplayer? It’s just stupidity
- Anonymous
This range calculator is not applicable to invading. If you plan on invading, plan on basically being cheated at every tuen. This will get down voted by same 6 people who are the ganks. But don't waste your time with this. It's simply not applicable for invaders.
- Anonymous
So i have to adapt to all these rules when invading but the host only has to type a password to summon his max level buddies? Keep it classy FROM.
- Anonymous
I don't recommend doing online until at the very minimum lvl 60 - and make sure you have the rot cure incantation. Below that level is a horrible toxic mess and usually contains the worst kinds of players - both invaders and overleveled phantoms. I have a feeling that many new players are completely prevented from really getting into the online because of this horrible bracket.
- Anonymous
This range calculator seems only applicable to invading. It's pretty accurate. It is not accurate to the host summoning phantoms. With password groups, you can summon phantoms leveled far far far far far above that formula. It is the only explanation for the mass ruin rewards I get from most phantoms when I do manage to defeat them. See pvp reward info. Matter of fact, I'm not sure I remember an invasion against non max level phantoms. This and no random single player invasion broke pvp badly.but it is what it is. Either accept it or don't invade. Password was a money move to get more people buying game IMHO.
- Anonymous
It's pretty hard as an invader in this game ,but it so funny sometimes the battles. I love kicking the other guy. Really don't care much if I win or lose if I can get a good kick in. Kicking a guy off a cliff is the best!
- Anonymous
So everyone in RL 150+ are in a group, so if I keep leveling up, I won't have to worry about not being able to invade people? That's good to know.
- Anonymous
Making Invasions only occur in groups was the dumbest decision Fromsoft has ever made. A game with this big of a fanbase shouldn't be this dead. Ds3 and Ds2 were more busy 5 years after their release. Also covenants are nonexistent and Seamless Coop deletes pvp entirely. Sekiro was offline, and I think Armored Core doesn't have pvp, Ds3 (2016) was the last one. Casual pvp is dead, all we have is an arena with no benefits. And all I can do is hope they make a more pvp oriented game later on, cause despite their minor improvements like the Arena and Near/Far Invading, this is objectively trash.
- Anonymous
Weapon level matchmaking was such a stupid kneejerk reaction to twinks ruining dark souls 1. Literally just make every invader, phantom, or hunter match the host's current max weapon level. No more nonsense calculations and planning needed to play online, and there's still no risk of twinks hard stomping or carrying noobs through numbers alone.
Rune level matchmaking is the only thing that makes sense, since build potential actually changes at different levels.
A +1 sword is exactly the same at +25 in everything but damage, but A RL 40 build and RL 80 build can play totally different from one another. The removal of weapon level matchmaking would make both co-op and invasions so much more convenient.
- Anonymous
Something is odd, i was doing non stop coop at lvl 3 with +4 weapons at stormveil, when i advanced up to volcano manor without killing godrick or getting + 7 weapon for parches or edgar, i stopped getting summoned. The only thing i did was to upgrade black crossbow to +2 somber apart from that.
- Anonymous
They should just have 3 summon brackets, 1-60, 61-125, and 126+ this game is so dead outside the arena
- Anonymous
Just take off level ranges entirely and scale all invaders and phantoms to the Host's level.
I want to help players beat bosses, but at endgame you only get summoned for Fire Giant onwards. If you're level 170 and want to fight earlier bosses like Rennala, then you have to make an entirely new character and replay half the game in order to get summoned. That or hope to get summoned by someone in New Game+.
And on that note, summoning pools are also terrible. There's no way to filter which bosses you want to be summoned for, nor can you tell which one's you've activated or not. It could be as simple as going to the map and checking off which summon pools you want active and leaving your Golden Effigy always on. The Blue Cypher ring can be left on; I don't get why the Effigies constantly disable when entering a new area.

The weapon level matchmaking need to go. It just overcomplicates matchmaking. If a phantom has a higher weapon upgrade, just scale it down to the hosts highest upgrade

Some people drank too much copium. Coop and pvp is still fun. If you're burned out by Elden Ring, move on to another game that makes you happy. And come back for the DLC with fresh joy.
- Anonymous
Don't let yourself get chewed up by the lowest common denominator of people still matchmaking with randoms, the reason they're doing that is because they don't have any friends and get kicked out of communities for being the lowest common denominator of humanity. It's not march 2022 anymore, the vast majority of cool people have moved on or filtered out of random matchmaking thanks to communities, seamless co op, and passwords. Don't subject yourself to randoms in 2023.

Pro tip from a long term co-op enjoyer: when you see the summoning pool at the First Step just ignore it :)

I think talisman slots and flask upgrade should count for invasion matchmaking, invaders shouldn't be allowed to have a very unfair advantage against hosts at level 1-70, and overleveled phantoms need a better balance.
- Anonymous
Why don’t they just make it so that your hp, fp, stamina and attack level down to whoever your invading level is?
Yes there would need to be caps, you can’t have a lvl 679 with a lvl 13, but if they made the caps bigger and lowered stats to around the hosts level, it would be more enjoyable and easier to invade and do colosseum.
- Anonymous
Co-op builds will just never get consistent activity in ER, the matchmaking ranges are too shallow for how massive the game is, and most players just use spirits because there's no penalty. You'll also have to strategically dodge common ganking areas/bosses/levels/upgrades, if you're not interested in standing around with a bunch of mouth breathers waiting for invaders to mash buttons at. DLC might funnel people into a more concentrated area/range of content, but that won't solve having to constantly sever/block tard squads. I gave up on "co-op" pretty fast, just a couple months after release it seemed like the only people still playing were the lowliest of losers.

Anyone know which formula is used for colosseum matchmaking? I’m already past 150 so wondering when I should stop
The fact that 150 matches with 125 in arena is so annoying. 25 extra points of defenses and whatever other stats giving you an advantage against everyone else playing at the actual meta level. Feels cheap when you know someone is leagues above your level but they still matched with you and still feel like they outplayed you despite the advantages.

Most people are at level 150 so you should go around 140-160 if you want to pvp
I've been having tons of fun co-oping at RL 85 with +17 weapons. The rune arcs, boss rush type gameplay, and random player interactions are all even better with a good lowbie build. Invaders are pretty tame at these levels, though you do get the occasional tryhard that will G9 your team. For bosses, I've been getting lots of Radahns, Sewer Mohgs, Crucible Knight Silurias, Morgotts, and of course that Ulcerated Tree Spirit guarding the Mt. Gelmir Minor Erdtree (us mages love that one).
Overall a source of good fun for someone who has completed all the single-player content the game has to offer. Pop on an obscure but fun weapon, grab your favorite AoW, get all the spells/gear you can, and perhaps pick up a Prattling Pate if you prefer parlaying with partnered players!
- Anonymous
I stopped at RL137 and it seems great - tons of multiplayer in all forms, you can interact with both 125 and 150 players, and overall have lots of points to spend in stats. Just one gripe is that you will eventually get sick of Radagons, Malenias, Malikeths, Godfreys and Godskins you will get summoned for over and over at this level lol.

Anything above 306 gets pretty regular co op activity, you will be summoned to join gank squads at the first step on a regular basis, but there are also many NG+x people out there who actually want clear a level with a stranger. You never know how hard an enemy is going to hit until they do.

Looks like there's a slight error. Under "SUMMON RANGE FORMULA" it says the calculations are based on the host player's level. If the calculator under "LEVEL BASED MATCHMAKING" is correct (ignoring rounding errors) then the PvP formulas under "SUMMON RANGE FORMULA" are using the invader's level, not the host's.
Example, if "Level" is 139:
Lower-level Limit: 139 * 0.9 = 125.1 (calculator rounds it to 126, the host's level, which means 139 is the invader's level)
Upper-level Limit Equation: 139 * 1.1 + 20 = 172.3 (calculator rounds it to 172, the host's level, which means 139 is the invader's level)
Also, I wrote down the formulas corresponding to the results displayed in the calculator. You should be able to use these if you want to avoid the calculator's rounding errors (assuming the formulas provided on this wiki are correct):
COOP
Can Summon, Lower-Level Limit: Cooperator = Host * 0.9 - 10
Can Summon, Upper-Level Limit: Cooperator = Host * 1.1 + 10
Can be Summoned by, Lower-Level Limit: Host = (Cooperator - 10) / 1.1
Can be Summoned by, Upper-Level Limit: Host = (Cooperator + 10) / 0.9
PVP
Can Invade, Lower-Level Limit: Host = Invader * 0.9
Can Invade, Upper-Level Limit: Host = Invader * 1.1 + 20
Can be Invaded by, Lower-Level Limit: Invader = (Host - 20) / 1.1
Can be Invaded by, Upper-Level Limit: Invader = Host / 0.9

153 is the level you want to be for invasions as it allows you to invade 150 as well as 138. The reason why 138 is mentioned because it’s the highest level that will match with 125. So being 153 will be the highest to match with the primary meta of 150 as well as the tertiary meta of 138.
Hosts are going to playthrough with gold scarab always on and will play with few weapons and so will almost dump a very large proportion of runes for levels. Paired with summoned friends the host will get their runes back from deaths more easily and the rune penalty from summoning will be negated by winning invasions. This will push hosts to be closer to 150 as oppose to 125.
As someone with 67 days of game time and most of it invasion, 153 is the way to go.

Nobody is summoning me? Rl150 +max. Did every summoning pool and nothing. It takes a solid 15+ to finally get summoned

For RL45 invasions build Unique +3, should I go for +7 standard weapon? Or +5?

Working on an rl30 coop character, what's the best weapon level to stick with? I've heard +3 and +5 for standard weapons but I don't know if I should move up to +5 or stay with +3

Auto scaling the weapons would greatly simplify matchmaking. I've been running around for a year rarely finding matches only to find I'm supposed to have my weapon at something specific too? seems like a lot of guess work just to have fun.

If I keep a level 20 build on ng+ will I be able to play with players on their first play through still?

For Xbox multiplayer activity try 60 +12/+3, 125 +25/+10, 150 +25/+10, 200 +25/+10.
I have to agree that Weapon Level Matchmaking , while in theory sounds good, is actually a horrible idea as is password matchmaking. The easiest solution. Get rid of dropping/duping ANY and ALL weapons armor and consumbables like Bloodborne. Have the player have to get all their stuff on their own. Problem solved.
