Buffs and Debuffs in Elden Ring are categories of Status Effects. This page covers how Buffs and Debuffs stack, the potency of their effects, their FP costs, and their stat requirements.
The tables provided below do not provide an exhaustive list of every status effect in the game, only those that fall into exclusive categories and are prone to being overridden.
- See Status Effects for all status buildups and other effects applied to your character.
- See Damage Types to identify the best sources and resistances for all damage types.
- See Special Weaknesses for details on types of enemies weak to particular equipment.
As of 4/24/2023, this page is up-to-date with Patch 1.09.1.
Stacking Buffs & Debuffs in Elden Ring
Persistent Buffs, their effects denoted by square borders, can be freely stacked:
Temporary Buffs, their effects denoted by diamond borders, fall into categories, where only one of each can be active at a time:
- Weapon
- Shield
- Body
- Aura
Temporary Debuffs fall into categories, where only one of each can be active at a time:
- Power Shred
- Destined Death
- Flask Disable
Buildup Debuffs can be freely stacked:
Unique Temporary Buffs & Debuffs can be freely stacked.
Buff & Debuff Order Tips in Elden Ring
Spells require a catalyst to be cast:
The Old Lord's Talisman increases the duration of buff Spells by 30%.
Armament buffs, excluding Skills, require wielding the armament in a certain hand:
Armament buffs are lost when the armament is swapped.
When dual-wielding, Skills are used from the right-hand armament:
- Shields Skills take priority, regardless of the hand they're held in
- Encourages the use of the Ash of War: No Skill
Buffs & Debuffs often stack multiplicatively (e.g., Red-Feathered Branchsword (+20% Damage) and Exalted Flesh (+20% Physical Damage) would result in +44% Physical Damage).
For Skills such as Golden Vow, the Dagger is immediately usable by all Classes.

Weapon
Weapon Buffs improve the offensive capability of a weapon, often adding attack power or status buildup.
Non-Skill Weapon Buffs cannot be applied to Special weapons (with the exceptions of Bloodhound's Fang and Varre's Bouquet) or those with non-physical Affinities. They also cannot be applied to Ivory Sickle, Crystal Knife, or Serpentbone Blade, despite being Standard weapons.

Elden Ring Buffs and Debuffs Notes & Tips
- Effects from differing categories can occasionally share status icons.
- Certain effects have visual priority over others (e.g., Uplifting Aromatic's
Unique Buff shield).
- Consumables must be bought, crafted, or found, making Spells and Skills more convenient as they often only require FP.
- Talismans were included on this page only in cases where their effects are uniquely non-stackable/redundant when paired with one of the temporary buffs/debuffs.
- Anonymous
Not all, not even close to all, sources of health regen are listed here and that is disappointing.
Can we combine boiled crap with exalted flesh? Both body buffs but do separate kinds of buffs.
- Anonymous
The Defense Shred section should probably just be Shred because Acidspray Mist counts as a Shred as they all overwrite each other. Also the Oil Pot stacks with the Shreds therefore it should actually be in the Unique section.
And the moon spells doing the same increased damage as Greyoll's Roar looks silly when you have the moon's posted as 20% instead of 10%.
Astonishing how many parts of this wiki in the both the pages and comment section across the wiki has people posting wrong about absorption stat because they can't math or do tests in PvP naked. Especially on the moon spell pages.
For example you can clearly see how Pierce damage increases by 15% on counter hits. When naked with 0% absorption and in a counter state the Pierce becomes -15%. But with the Ritual Shield Talisman you go from 30 Pierce to 19.5 in counter state. That's still a 15% increase in damage. So I got no clue where this 20 number on the moon spells are coming from.
Also Soul Stifler duration on this page is outdated. It should be 60sec.
Overal Greyoll's Roar hands down the best Shred as a support/debuffer.

Is Destined Death(Maliketh's Black Blade skill) and Black Blade(Incantation) actually weaker than the Blade Of Death(Black Knife skill) or is the wiki wrong?

this page has not been updated to 1.07 yet. please someone fixes it

I hope that incoming DLC patch will have a buff that negate all debuff , just make it a body buff for balance (not stack with dmg nagate buff)
since everyone in pvp only use cheap build such as bleed , sleep , madness and FromSoft can not fix debuff proc without damage (yeah you can get free stun with sleep even they can roll all your attack)
I don't know how hard to program like if you don't get dmg then you don't get debuff proc when the debuff in come form weapon or somewhat that (Im not dev) , but if we have this buff , at least we will solve this issue ourselve.

Stupid question, but... Does the pvp nerf for buffs apply if you're a summon helping the host against a boss or only against invaders/duelists? I'm just trying to figure out of the buffs are worth it when helping people out or just a waste of fp
- Anonymous
when i use golden vow + protection of the eldtree the bubble effect disappears but the buff wont itself
Tried my best to update the values to be as accurate as possible.

Thanks a gigaton this page is really helpful especially the examples helped a lot. Thank you very much!!
Shouldn't Black Flame's Protection be put under Barriers, rather than Greater Barriers? It has the same DR value as the lesser ones, at 35%, rather than 60%, like the greater ones.

wouldn't 'dragonbolt blessing' be an aura buff not a body buff? or maybe I just don't understand the difference, but after casting dragonbolt blessing you can see lightning dancing all over your armour, or is an aura buff only when you see gold or red waves of light around you?
- Anonymous
gotta help out the noobs who still buff spam in pvp. if you think its not pvp nerfed, it is. idc about defense, but attack rating increases; golden vow ash of war is 3% increase, exulted flesh is 15%, shared order is 3%, golden great arrow buff is 1% hard to measure all the ramping up damage effects like rotten winged talisman, but they are heavily nerfed in pvp borderline worthless. warcry/roar are 12% not 7.5, idk who tf got that number. meaning golden vow spell, exulted flesh, bloodboil, and flask elemental buffs are pretty much the only buffs worth using

For Aura buffs, you should add the Warcry buff from the Stormhawk Spirit Summon.
Radagon's Soreseal is amazing +5 to all stats, but it's not. You take 15% more damage. By the time you reach the fire giant, you should just level up and get rid of this piece of ****. It's easy to get +STR +DEX +INT talismans and you can easily get the Silver Tear Mask for +8 to Arcane.
This biggest buff of all time is to simply change your graphic settings to low - particularly when fighting in Consecrated Snowfields or Farum Azula ... also the Fire Giant and Rykard... and Astel and many other areas. If you see massive environmental happenings, turn your graphic settings to low and you won't get that graphic lag which is a ****ing killer.
Fyi, you forgot the fire damage crystal tear, THAT stacks extremely well with Rallying Standard, Flame Grant Me Strength and most don't know but War Cry can stack with itself TWICE (dual wielding), because it's a weapon skill you can put it on BOTH weapons while the buff itself ALREADY applies to BOTH weapons. As long as you don't remove a weapon you will receive +10% to BOTH weapons TWICE.
- Anonymous
Sooo, which buffs can co-exist? I mean nice overview, but it's the same Elden Ring principle again: Big chaos, some logics, try all the 50000 combination and see what happens.
- Anonymous
How are you supposed to tell the difference between a weapon and aura buff. Especially when a weapons skill has an aura buff!
- Anonymous
From my testing, ash golden vow and spell golden vow seem to stack with each other.
- Anonymous
(Understandably) this page is missing the buff obtained from Golden Great Arrows. They give a 45 second buff to defense and offense to self and allies within a meter or so of the arrow's impact (needs to be fired at your own feet to receive the buff yourself). I assume it's in the aura family of buffs, but I'll check around and make sure before confirming.
- Anonymous
MIssing the Red and Blue Feathered Branch Sword Talisman Buffs (while under 20% health). They may be circumstantial, but they are still buffs.
- Anonymous
Most useful page for beginners, seeing someone buffing himself with BFlame protection and FlameGMS is painful

Golden Vow(Incantation) will overwrite Boiled Crab. Using Boiled Crab while Golden Vow(Incantation) is active does nothing.
- Anonymous
Sure wish there was a body damage buff that lasted 90 seconds and lined up perfectly with Golden Vow and Electrify Armament / Order's Blade / Scholar's Armament.
- Anonymous
Still annoyed that the only spell based weapon fire buff only lasts 6 seconds
- Anonymous
"Exception Buffs are exactly that; exceptions. They do not follow the behavior of the other aforementioned buffs and can be stacked with both themselves and other types of buffs without concern."
Can be stacked with themself? Correct me if im wrong, but if i were to spam CONTAGIOUS FURY (jellyfish shield) for 20 seconds straight, then id have 10 seconds of super high damage before the first buff runs out?
So hear me out: We take Terra magic, Golden Vow, Uplifting Aromatic, and once they are all applied we spam Contagious Fury and drink the physick potion that gives unlimited FP for a short time to fire Comet Azur (I think that was the lazer beam like spell) and we should, assuming its times correctly and the Contagious Fury stacks with everything else, get damage high enough to evaporate anything.
If the character using this is invested the almost all points into INT, a little bit into Faith (for golden vow) and a little bit into mind to ensure all spells can be cast before using the physick potion and the staff that boosts damage for higher FP cost is used then this will be devastating.
Again, this assumes that Contagious Fury stacks with both all the other buffs and itself which allows a player to spam it for a crazy buff.
- Anonymous
When.. does a buff overwrite another buff because
The sacred order ash of war doesnt overwrite the rallying standard on me.
But i not complaining
- Anonymous
The Jellyfish shield’s Contagious Fury seems to stack with everything as long as you still have it equipped (the buff leaves even if you switch to two-handing your weapon).
Braggarts Roar isn't on here. Anyone have a good guide as to what and what doesn't stack?

If you are going for a support build, the best buffs that don't negate each other are Rallying Standard for the Aura, Blessing of the Erdtree for the regen buff and a damage negation barrier apropriate for the situation. If an uplifting aromatic is used before the Rallying Standard, the shield effect stays while the buff is overwritten by the later, which is higher. Any additional effects from ashes of war can be used without conflicting with the above buffs.
I... Still have no idea what any of this means. Like, in trying to read it, but I just don't get it. I get status effects, but that's about it.
