Bolsters caster's body with lightning
![]() |
Dragonbolt Blessing is an Incantation in Elden Ring. Dragonbolt Blessing spell increases resistance to all ailments and makes it easier to deflect enemy attacks. It also reduces the lightning damage negation of the player. It increases all resistances (Immunity, Robustness, Focus, Vitality) by a flat 30.
Superior incantation of the capital's ancient dragon cult.
Summons lightning to bolster the caster's body. Attacks become easier to deflect and resistance to all ailments is increased.
However, lightning damage negation will be reduced.
Only those loved by dragons can survive the ordeal of cladding their bodies in lightning.

- Stamina Cost: 20
- This is a Body Buff and will not stack with other buffs of the same type.

Not sure if this is a good tip, but gotta share a curious detail: the deflection works when you block an attack with something that isn't a 100% physical damage block, like a wooden shield or the two-handed weapon, so the attacker gets staggered with less health loss, but at the cost of some stamina. This might help guard counters to land more consistently, or even make them work against players.

Vyke's would be so much better if it did this instead of the equip load thing

by far my favorite pvp spell, counters a lot of the mashy and spammy builds you see in the arena
- Anonymous
This stacks with shield hardness. On my spiralhorn shield invasion build, I can block 1h greatswords, heavy thrusting swords, etc in PvP with the buff active (and many pve enemies), meaning the shield goes from 1 -> 3.
I'm confused. I was able to make a powerstanced Lances user bounce off of me with this spell, even though the hardness is only Tier 2.
- Anonymous
lore wise being able to use this means there's a dragon that loves you out there in the world so how long until i get to meet my ancient dragon waifu/husbando and instate the age of dragons together??? :(
- Anonymous
Okay but how much damage does it do? Same as Electrify Armament? Or less?
- Anonymous
seriously underrated pvp spell, especially in invasions where you're being slapped by multiple people simultaneously
- Anonymous
so dual spears is meta is meta huh? too bad they bounce off of me
- Anonymous
The kinda builds this would’ve been useful against are also the kind of builds that use lightning infusions. And the status resistance boost is pitiful when you factor in that status builds still do full damage, usually just spam L2/jumps anyways, poise break on frost/bleed and often have access to lightning spells. But don’t let that stop you from using this buff before a lightning ram surprise attack.

Huh, how'd i miss this my first NG, I certainly cleared the stormcaller church as it shows up on my map in NG+, but i don't have this. Must have missed it somehow.
Welp, looks like a trip back to leyndell before i start NG+2 is on the menu.

this + wakizashi + any other slender looking knife = Duncan Idaho build

I am the only thinks that it looks like super sayan thingy brings back the memories man
- Anonymous
If you invest a bit of poise, you can bulldoze a lot of builds just by using this. it's fantastic.
- Anonymous
Great counter to the new thrusting sword meta. Really slows down the DPS of the r1 and l1 pokespammers
- Anonymous
can be pretty brutal in lower level pvp where most people have 1 handed light weapons
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
does this scale with faith/sacred seals or is it a flat increase?
- Anonymous
The human body is incredibly resilient to lightning. I guess tarnished are made of weaker stuff.
- Anonymous
So making lightning course through your body and empowering you makes you...weak to lightning? I mean I guess I can let it pass because of "just a little more and overloaded" but...meh.

in some fights this spell honestly feels like cheating lmao, its so good

In PVP this does not work for a player who is wielding a GREAT SPEAR + greatshield.
This is because dragonbolt blessing gives tier 2 hardness and great spears are at the same level. Found this out when I invaded somebody with serpent hunter lance + fingerprint shield.

Cast this after Vykes to get red lighting blade + yellow lightning body :DD

Really nice buff with a badass cast animation. AND it stacks with Golden Vow. God, Faith is wild in Elden Ring.

Pairing this with either Wild Strikes or Stormcaller AoW is my fave go-to for fighting mobs. High poise from the AoW and everything bouncing off of you while mowing everyone down makes you feel like a damn Termitnator and I'm all about it.
- Anonymous
Does anyone know how or even if dragonbolt blessing stacks with golden vow? will they always stack no matter what order they are cast?
- Anonymous
I love the visual effect.
And I hate how golden vow removes that l
Lightning upped armor look :(

absolutely shafts thrust weapons if you find those annoying like i do

Vyke's spear special attack while this is in play. Absolutely hilarious.

This does not deflect attacks from 1-handed powerstanced weapons such as curved swords, btw. Learned that the hard way. :/

This is *great* against Kindred of Rot/Pests. Getting their spear pokes interrupted severely inhibits their mobility, so you can just stun them with Guard Counters.

this skill is anti - shield poking , hide behide bigshield and poke with rapier / spear will stagger them and remove block stance for a sec.

Just tested this on a Leyndell Knight and it DOES work on Raptor of the Mist. Im sorry if you encounter me in future invasions :p
- Anonymous
I've found that this buff also seems to take effect when your shield is hit as well (I tested this in the gatefront ruins with a medium shield, and it even worked against the guard captain). Pretty nice if you want to make guard counters land more easily in PvE and I assume this could put in some work if you wanted to do some shield poking in PvP. Funnily enough this used to be what I'd do with barricade shield, but barricade shield doesn't seem to have that effect anymore.
- Anonymous
Good for low poise casters I suppose. It's just hard for me to justify the slot with all the other defensive spells being overridden by it and I use perfumer steel flesh.
- Anonymous
Considerably increases the viability of Raptor of the Mists. Makes it so that if an R1 triggers the dodge, they will be bounced and unable to combo the initial hit or roll out of the follow-up jump attack. Most large/heavy weapons won't be fast enough to hit you in the air before you counter, so really the only counter to this outside of ranged attacks/pokes is for the enemy to be 2-handing a katana. As they are 2h-ing they will not get bounced off on the triggering attack, and katanas are fast and long enough to clip you with a second attack whilst you're in the air.
It's not an "EZ win" but it definitely increases the viability of RotM in PvP.
- Anonymous
Also doesn't stack with Protection of The Erdtree, or majority of the consumables that grant buffs (including exalted flesh, boiled crab, and cured meats)

- Anonymous
Has anyone tested this against Melania because that would be huge for her fight
- Anonymous
Makes every 1h standing r1 bounce off except for great hammers, whips, colossal swords, and colossal weapons. It also makes the standing L1s bounce if they powerstance their weapons as well. I don't recommend that because you unless you have a lot of poise and they are using small weapons you will probably get staggered and you still take the damage. It is very useful against shieldpokers especially if you are using status inflicting weapons.
- Anonymous
Haven't run into this exact build myself yet, but now people are saying that this + bull goats and moonveil is one of the best builds in the game because it out-trades most weapons in the game and might become the new meta. If this does become meta, easiest way to counter it will be to keep lightning damage weapon as a backup if you're not already using a faith or dex build, -35% lightning damage negation makes you very squishy to lightning damage even with heavy armor. Special mention to lightning urumis/infusable whips, been my favorite PVP weapons to begin with, and opponents using this is just a pure buff to you. Not sure if flails are good at all for PVP, but theoretically the same also applies to lightning flails.

"reduce lightning damage negation by 35%" is incorrect and vague. The 2 ways this can be interpreted are that it takes a flat 35% off of your lightning damage negation, or that it cuts 35% of your lightning damage negation away, IE, with 10 lightning damage negation you'd be reduced to 6.5% lightning damage negation. Both these interpretations are wrong. At 25% lightning damage negation it reduces me to 0% lightning damage negation. Another person reported it reduced his lightning damage negation from 46% to 28%. What this actually does is increase the lightning damage you take by about 1/3 or 33%.

This is massively underrated in PVP. In invasions, you can punish people who think they can dogpile you with r1 spam. In duals, it counters 2 very prominent builds in the meta, fingerprint shieldpoke and dual seppuku bleed builds. It's virtually a hardcounter versus greatshield poke builds if you're running high poise, even great spear R1s will bounce off you and puts them out of their blocking state while you get a free follow up. Versus dual seppuku katanas and spears, it's more of a softcounter as it stacks with other sources of bleed resistance and the bouncing effect keeps them from getting guaranteed combos if you bleed and get stunned. Against seppuku twinblades and WA bleed build (namely Rivers of Blood), not as effective since they won't bounce off but the bleed resist is still nice. Technically this is also true against other forms of status builds, you can use this and Speckled Hardtear to get high resistances to all status effects. Also just pretty good in general, most people don't know what it does, so you will probably win against anyone using sword and board playstyles.

safe to assume Golden vow and protection of the erdtree were the damage negations buffs that only stacks.. ;-;
it overlaps protection of erdtree favor and any damage negation buff

Does this make flails bounce? I've found that they seem to just...not bounce, ever, even one-handed.
- Anonymous
Perfect for dealing with peaky R1 spamming invaders. The only thing you'll need to watch out for are the moonveil katanas.
- Anonymous
This would look hilarious on 2 opponents that shield turtle with spears.

does this stack with the fire incantation that also increases your attack power?? Sorry, I forgot the name, but it overwrites the effect, not sure if this stacks with other buff incantations
- Anonymous
This is EXCELLENT if you intend on doing Guard Counters. Because normally if enemy is simply mashing R1s with light weapon, you won't have enough time to perform guard counter inbetween his strikes if you are using some heavier weapon.
But with this... their attack gets blocked by your weapon/shield, and due to this incantation, they can't spam R1s, so you have your sweet time to perform it.
Wonderful thing.

I just confirmed that this spell actually reduces lightning resistance, from 46% to 28% in my lightning resist setup.

When stacked with another incantation such as Golden Vow, the appearance of Golden Vow will show and the lightning effect of this one will not. That said, the effects of both will persist.
- Anonymous
This incantation is godlike against non-huge foes. It is like iron flesh without the poise. Whether you block or the enemy strikes you directly they are staggered as if attacking a greatshield. Enemies that do damage by spamming quick attacks become a joke.
- Anonymous
Found in Stormcaller Church (on the hill north of the entrance pathway to Leyndall. Can also confirm the deflect part makes enemies recoil more when you are blocking

I love this spell not because it looks cool but because of the tier 2 hardness. You don't have to know anything about that or what boosting focus, robustness, and immunity does. Here's all you need to know about this spell: this counters dual straight swords, spears, daggers, fists, claws, katanas, basically anything that isn't a two handed great sword or bigger. The moment any of those maidenless builds press their spam button, their attacks bounce off meaning they can't follow it up and blender you.
