Rebirth or Respec in Elden Ring is a mechanic to reset your Character Stats. Respeccing in Elden Ring is often used to make drastic changes to a player's Build, reallocating attribute points to satisfy the stat requirements of new Weapons, Spells, or other such equipment. This page includes all information required for Rebirth, including prerequisites, Locations, and Items.
- See Stats for a rundown of attribute points, attack power, damage negation, and all other player stats.
- See Leveling for details on how to level, a breakdown of runes necessary per level, and more.
- See Runes for details on acquiring runes and rune acquisition boosting equipment.
Respeccing in Elden Ring
How to Respec in Elden Ring
After defeating the shardbearer, Rennala Queen of the Full Moon, of Raya Lucaria Academy, you will be able to redistribute all of your allocated attribute points in exchange for a Larval Tear.
How Respec works in Elden Ring
With the Rebirth menu, you can spend Larval Tears to clear your levels and reassign them from square one.
You must reassign all levels until you reach your present level and cannot make any attributes lower than their initial level determined by your origin.
The Larval Tear is consumed only after confirming your allocation of stats by responding "Yes" to the prompt of "Undergo rebirth?" - backing out of the menu before finishing will not expend a tear.

Respec Location in Elden Ring
Raya Lucaria Academy is located near the center of Liurnia of the Lakes.
Prerequisite Bosses which must be defeated before being able to respec:
Great Rune of the Unborn
Great Rune of the Unborn is a Great Rune dropped by Rennala Queen of the Full Moon upon defeating her.
Unlike the other Great Runes, you do not need to restore its power at Divine Tower, nor can it be equipped and activated with a Rune Arc.
Its significance lies in its description, telling of its ability to "perfect those who have been born anew."
Does respeccing have any negative effects gamewise? I mean, does it cut you out of any endings or npc interactions or anything? I wasn’t going to respecc at all for fear of this, but if it doesn’t, I may consider it.

The respec glitch is gone with patch 1.06. Does anyone know any new alternatives ?

This has no impact on character design I hope? Got my female character perfect after 8 hours of time in the mirror in Round table. Will this absolve sins?
- Anonymous
SO...I'm a L186 and decided to respec; only I freed the sorcerer chick who apparently took Rennala's place and doesn't respec?
So what do I do now?

Hold the alabama country music lads
"rebirth" ?
By rennala?
Does that mean im ranni's sibling now ?
- Anonymous
if you ALT+F4 and hit "Yes" to undergo rebirth at the EXACT same time, it doesn't use a larval tear but rebirths you anyways just like ALT+F4ing Rosaria in DS3.
This is very unreliable, annoying to do, and has to be frame perfect I think.
This has worked for me as of 1.04.1
Anybody else losing attribute points after rebirth? I respec’d 4 times, playing around with some different builds and have somehow lost 20 attribute points in the process. I hope they provide a fix for this..

is it safe to back up your save data before respec ? I want to test different builds but I'm a bit concerned if by testing, doing rollbacks and stuff will get me flagged.

Something to note that's not listed in the wiki - if you rebirth a few times (i think 5 or more times), Rennala's lines change to thank you for being rebirthed time and time again. If you attempt to respec again immediately, without leaving the menu, you will be able to respec again without using another larval tear.

When respeccing, can you change your character's name and appearance too, or just stats?

> Kill Deacons of the Deep Electric Boogaloo, receive rebirths - Hmmmm

Those 8 points would cost well over 1mill runes to get back. Nice

After about 10-12 rebirths, Renalla charges you runes instead of tears

Does rebirthing reset your level points as your class lvl 0? Or for example will it go to wretch lvl 0 even though you’re another class? i.e. vagabond.

You can respec after defeating the Third Story Line Boss: Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon. Speak to her after the battle and select "Rebirth". It requires the larvel tears item. You DO NOT have to beat the final boss.

I've managed to collect 18 tears on my first playthrough. So there at least 3 more for sure (if not more). Don't remember from where though.

WARNING: Rebirthing is currently bugged and you may lose attribute points in the process.
I took screenshots from before and after and i lost 2 attribute points due to rebirth. No equipment had been unequipped and reequipped. No buffs had been used.

Can you respec after you defeat the final boss in your first playthrough and before you start your second one? Or do you need to go and defeat Rennala in your second journey before you get a chance to respec after the final boss of journey 1?

when you respec does it reset you at level one or the base stats of your class?

Is it 100% known if the Rosaria bug works or not on all platforms? Just tried it and im thinking it might've worked (im on Xbox1) but i just wanted to make sure.

When the respec is locked behind the very content you want to respec for.

Are we SURE Rennala won't sluggify our characters for respeccing them? Like really REALLY sure?

Are 15 Larval Tears in ng+ again? This would mean that you can respec 15 times per run. A lot! In DS3 it was 5 times I think.

Anyone know if Larval Tear allows you to change base class? My current base class in not optimal for my build.
- Anonymous
Don't forget to mention helping Sorceress Sellen removes the ability to respec.
- Anonymous
Where one trully starts playing. You know the game you know what you want youre not forced to stick with your early choices anymore.
- Anonymous
It seems you can do the same as DS3.
If you alt+f4 just after confirming the rebirth, the larval tear won't be consumed but the rebirth will be done
- Anonymous
I am going to respec my weak af STR character to a Moonveil or Bleed Build.

It is possible to farm Larval Tears off of the sentient boulders in Nokstella, the Eternal City. They have a fairly high dropchance too.
You can get the Larval Tears from the big killable spheres in places like Nokstella and Nokron, and if you're a co-op player you can get them as well. You might even be able to farm them this way. We killed the same sphere a second time after host died, and while they didn't get another tear, I did.

You can get one from a surprise ambush from a bear after killing an undead with sword east of Agheel Lake South waygate. He is supervising a group of slaves against a wall by the road.

"You would most likely be over level 50 by the point you get to this"
Wait... I tought this was the second dungeon... I was like 30 when I killed the queen
- Anonymous
You can get one from a runebear that spawned after killing an undead with sword east of Agheel Lake South waygate

If anybody is wondering, there is a larval tear you can buy from siofra river's merchant.
- Anonymous
Idk what happened, but after I rebirthed the first time and then went back to change it to its original I came up short…

Looks like the Ds3 exploit of ALT+F4 after finishing the rebirth no longer works, now it consumes the item but stats remain as they were.
Rip Larval Tears :(

You Cana Lao get one early game, go to south lake rune(forgot the name of lake) and you will see the caravan, ignore it and start going up the mountain, you will see a lone skeleton, kill it. Then a big bear will appear, kill the bear, then boom. Larval tear

in Lake of Liurnia there is a small ruin with several giant lobsters sleeping around it, one of which, after dying, transforms into a grafted scion
- Anonymous
this should be available from the start or at least very early in the game. its dumb and annoying to have such a basic feature so late in the game.
- Anonymous
ughh I hate that I chose astrologer now im stuck with a high int stat no matter if I try to repec
- Anonymous
Is there a cap of 5 rebirths per NG like in dark souls 3, or is it unlimited?
- Anonymous
Is it like dark souls 3 in that you can only set stats as low as they are in the base starting class?

Hopefully there will be a way to respec infinitely, just like force quitting the game in DS3

Are only two Larva Tear per new game? can i only reset my character twice per new game?
There's a part of me that wishes I could de-level myself, I found out about the Mohgwyn palace rune farm and in my innocence, took it as an opportunity to level myself up to a ridiculous degree to help do more for boss fights, I'm like RL187 and wish I could de-level so that I can do matchmaking again, because I love matchmaking for boss fights and helping other players out. I liked being able to buff other players with Golden Vow and Blessing of the Erdtree to give them regen and better damage and damage negation.
Now that I know, I wish I had just respecced instead of just inflating my Strength and Faith with excessive leveling.
Even worse still, I spent around 80 hours with this character, gathering tons of incantations, tons of sorceries, weapons, armor, seals, and talismans, so now it feels like I can barely share him with anyone and now I just feel bad.
