PvP-exclusive balance adjustments

The adjustments in this section do not affect single-player or cooperative play.

  • Increased poise damage of all weapons and some spells and incantations.

  • Increased poise when attacking with some skills, spells, incantations and some types of weapon attacks that generates poise.

  • Added damage reduction when performing attacks with some skills, spells and incantations and some types of weapon attacks that generates poise.

  • Critical hit angles have been extended.

  • Decreased the invulnerability window of the Quick Step and Hound's Step skills.

     

  • Decreased the damage reduction granted by some skills, incantations and items.

 

General balance adjustments

  • Increased critical hit damage.

  • Decreased recovery time after a missed critical hit.

  • Fixed a bug that caused the effects of the Sacred Order skill to continue after switching weapons.

  • Corrected some text in certain languages.

About PC Ray Tracing settings

Under certain circumstances, ray tracing has been enabled by default after updating the game to version 1.09.

  • If Ray Tracing has been unintentionally enabled and is impacting your game, you can disable it from the title menu or in-game by going to System → Graphics → Set Ray Tracing Quality to OFF.
  • If your game does not start properly or becomes unstable when Ray Tracing Quality is set to Low/Medium/High/Maximum, please consider the following options:
  • Check the minimum/recommended operating environment of your PC when using Ray Tracing, available at the bottom of this page: Link.
  • Ensure that your graphics card drivers are updated to the latest version.

New Feature: Ray Tracing

Ray Tracing support has been added for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC versions.
Ray Tracing can be activated in the settings menu:

  • PS5 / XSX: Game Options > Ray Tracing
  • PC: Graphics > Ray Tracing Quality
     

Please note that performance - such as frame rate and resolution - may be impacted while playing with Ray Tracing on.

The minimum and recommended technical specifications to use Ray Tracing can be found at the end of the patch notes.

  • Fixed a bug where the Scarlet rot status buildup was not properly reflected when giving the Rotten Greataxe a Blood affinity.
  • Fixed a bug where some attacks of the Partisan, Death Ritual Spear, and Lucerne had unexpected Physical attack scaling.
  • Fixed a bug where the Nightrider Glaive did not increase the damage of horseback attacks.
  • Fixed a bug where the Duelist Greataxe and Rotten Greataxe did not increase the damage of charged attacks.
  • Fixed a bug where the Roar Medallion Talisman  effect didn’t increase the power of some incantations. 
  • Fixed a bug that reduced the power of some skills while under the Golden Vow effect.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the effects the Determination and Royal Knight's Resolve skills when casted from a left-handed weapon to be added to other skills casted with a right-handed weapon.
  • Fixed a bug that reduced the critical hit power of right-handed weapons while having Determination or Royal Knight's Resolve active on a left-handed weapon.
  • Fixed a bug where status build-ups were unintentionally added to some Weapon Skills
  • Fixed a bug where the power and special effects of a left-handed weapon could be added to a skill cast with a right-handed weapon.
  • Fixed a bug that caused an equipped Sacrificial Twig to be consumed when a player died in the Colosseum.
  • Fixed the camera positioning when respawning in the Colosseum.
  • Fixed a bug where a player could receive credit for a kill in the Colosseum when dying due to the Death status effect, instead of the player who inflicted that status effect.
  • Improved stability in Colosseum matchmaking.
  • Fixed a bug related to level correction when an invader used the Phantom Bloody Finger.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause disconnections with other players in certain locations during multiplayer.

  • [PS4] Fixed a bug that occurred when using the Finger Severer on summoned NPCs while offline that could cause the game to crash.

 Elden Ring – Patch Notes - Version 1.08

Released December 7th 2022

 

The Colosseum awaits.

In this new update, a brand-new multiplayer feature in the form of the Colosseum arenas have been added, as well as new hairstyles for you to enjoy. Additionally, new balance adjustments have been made to improve the stability of gameplay.

"Rise once again, Tarnished!" The free Colosseum update for ELDEN RING is available today on all platforms. This DLC brings new Player versus Player features and all-new cosmetic options.

  

 

PvP Colosseums 

-The Colosseum doors open for the first time to reveal a new challenge, unlocking three new arenas. Located in Limgrave, Caelid and Leyndell, each arena comes with its own sets of rules and will be theatres of fierce Player versus Player confrontations.

The Limgrave Colosseum features two modes: United Combat and Combat Ordeal.

  • In United Combat, combatants will be divided into two teams to fight in timed battles with the ability to respawn. Each death and respawn grants points to the adversaries, offering victory to the team with the higher score.
  • In Combat Ordeal, it’s every Tarnished for themselves. Combatants in this mode can also respawn until the timer hits zero, and the one with the most points will prevail as victor.

The Royal Colosseum, located in Leyndell, features Duel Mode. Two Tarnished face off in a duel to the death, and without the ability to respawn.

The Caelid Colosseum features all aforementioned modes with the addition of being able to summon Spirit Ashes to fight by players’ sides.

Join the fight on your own or use group passwords to match up with or against friends, and prove your worth in the Colosseums!

 

Cosmetics 

-Five new hairstyles also await players returning to their adventure in ELDEN RING or taking on the new challenges in the Colosseums.

Major new features

  • The Colosseums of Limgrave, Caelid and Leyndell are now open.
    In these arenas, players can engage in a variety of combat trials: one-on-one duels, free-for-alls & team battles up to six players, and special fights with spirit summoning enabled.
  • New hairstyles for character creation have been added. These are also available during character edition by using the Clouded Mirror Stand at the Roundtable Hold.

  • Fixed a bug where Stamina would replenish when switching to a crouching position while running.
  • Fixed a bug where Spell, Incantation, and item input actions were ignored while guarding against attacks.
  • Fixed incorrect physical attack values of some attacks of the Serpent-Hunter weapon.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented the follow-up attack from occurring when the Black Sword Incantation was activated with a Sacred Seal in the left hand.
  • Fixed a bug where the attack power of the right hand weapon was sometimes applied when casting the Inescapable Frenzy Incantation with a two-handed Sacred Seal in the left hand.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause multiple damage instances when certain Spells and Incantations were casted while jumping.
  • Fixed a bug that caused Weapon Arts to be incorrectly used with specific combinations of weapon and Weapon Arts.

Major Changes included in the latest patch

  • Ash of War - Endure: Shortened effect duration. Adjustments made in patch 1.07 had a greater impact on the game balance than expected.
  • Incantation - Inescapable Frenzy: Fixed a bug where the FP consumption was not properly reduced in patch 1.07.

Some changes mentioned in the 1.07 update patch notes posted on Thursday, October 13 were incorrectly mentioned. The incantation Flame of the Fell God and Gurranq's Beast Claw cannot be charged; patch notes were edited accordingly.

The incantation Black Blade is currently missing its follow up attack when cast from the left hand. This issue will be corrected in a future update.

      I'm loving the salty tears of gankers, RoB wan nerfed forever ago and they're still crying.
      On the other hand, Moonveil babies are still unable to press R1 or R2, then they complain about the ash of war being too obvious to read or too slow, which is hilarious.
      Maybe try to do something else while you're in combat :(

        Next patch need to balance hyperarmor badly greatswords should not able to tank attacks from a colossal also stunlock needs longer recovery time to stop the monkey mashing out of hitstun it's obnoxious. Before you start on me I'm talking purly about pvp since it's now separate from pve. Pve needs to have it's own tweeks tbh (cough-LetUsUseTorrentAgainstEldenBeast-cough).

          Ah yes 1.10 the mash out of hitstun meta that patch basically made pvp unplayable. I don't care for invasions but I love dueling and 1.10 ruined everything how sad.

            Patch 1.11: Rivers of Blood inflicts zero blood loss and has zero attack power, Moonveil self-destructs instantly if you use the L2, Sword of Night and Flame melts your console's CPU and if you die in PvP you die for real.

              You guys forgot to include "added crashing game in every 2nd loading screen for PvP" after "patch" 1.10
              Seriously From messed something up really bad since I didn't have issues with the game ever before. It crashed every once in a while but nowadays I literally can't play for 10 minutes without having to restart at least once. Crashes before every other colosseum duel. Extremely annoying. Maybe Easy AntiCheat could do a rework since it seems to do everything but preventing hackers from joining, just on the day of the update I ran into 2 hackers in an hour with infinite health and mana.

                I was expecting a nerf to sorcery (especially pebble) and removal of rot grease & greatbows for colosseum but aim-punch fix and h. armor buff is good too.

                  Im on my 10th or 11th playthrough . I ussually only change my stats drastically for milenia for a blood loss build. I feel like the games still been getting harder after ng+7. Im at level 417. Is there information i cant find regarding bosses scaling with our levels or anything? Ive sprt through so many patch notes and cant figure out how the games harder 100 levels later.

                    1.10 is great overall but i have no idea who thought it necessary to get Dark Souls 1 backstabs back here... you literally get teleported back while you roll into the backstab animation bc your 500 ping McDonalds WiFi opponent pressed R1 4 seconds ago. The "Ain't fix what's not broken" thing was perfectly true for this situation. There was nothing really wrong with backstabs, if your enemy got too predictable you could pull those off reliably. Now it's just lag abuse fest.

                      When will the greathorn hammer scale with intelligence when infused with the cold affinity?

                      Why is the greathorn hammer not a scythe?

                      Why don't Torrent's poise, defence/damage negation coincide with the player's? Not health since it seems like he has more health than the player.

                      Why is the Elden Ring community so stupid and arrogant?

                      Why can't you summon Torrent to fight the Elden Beast?

                      Why do halberds have dumb vertical swings into the ground?

                        Constant loss of game progress on xbox one! Been 6 times already. Anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 hours loss of progress.                             are they ever going to fix the bug where beating a boss causes the FPS to drop to about 1 frame per minute? i didn't notice this happening until i had about 4 character save files. now i have about a dozen characters and every major boss and about half the minor bosses cause a crash/ 0-FPS to occur. i let it sit for about 10 hours once and it never recovered.

                              I just noticed after 1.09 on xbox the Elden beast has ridiculous combos without pause. He hit me with Elden stars, then immediately with the golden fountain that you have to run from and then went immediately into the 4 slice combo spell. Ridic

                                Hope they keep the bug that keeps buffs from affecting magic it's already OP by itself honestly this is the best way to balance magic in the game and make close combat more capable of keeping up.

                                  As of patch 1.09 there is a new bug with golden vow (both spell and ash of war), howl of shabriri and flame grant me strenght that makes it so the damage buff doesn't apply to neither sorceries nor incantations even though the spell damage buff still appears in the buffs bar. I write this with the hope that it gets fixed asap.

                                  • (NEW) 1.09 Bug: All spells that buff your damage other than tera magica do not work anymore on spell damage. This includes Golden vow, flame grant me strength and howl of shabriri. There may be more but pretty sure these are the only spells for damage buffs.

                                    You still have the spell buff icon on your hotbar after you use these spells, it just doesn't do anything.

                                            They have destroyed flame of the redmanes normaly it 2 shots a giant into poise break but now it does nothing they didnt reduce the poise damage they completly removed it after 5 times a giant still doesnt poise break

                                                    if you die to the magma wyrm makar near the entrance area on a pile of rubble, your blood stain will not spawn, or will spawn on top of the column, basically the ceiling of the room, where it cannot be accessed. i went above after beating it and there was no bloodstain on the plains above. quitting and reloading didn't make it appear.

                                                        1.07, parameters in PvP damage scaling has been reduced by 30%, meaning EVERYTHING is 30% weaker, not just AoW. It's why so many spells got a damage boost; they do more damage in PvE, and are roughly the same for PvP, while physical attacks as a whole got nerfed for PvP; which is a significant buff to the soreseals.

                                                          incredibly good patch, nerfed the major offenders here, seppuku dual wield weapons were incredibly overtuned and made any other build in pve or pvp completely useless on top of that it was essentially the noobs weapon of choice for gank squads.
                                                          This should fix combat both for pvp and pve largely and make the pve not a gigantic cheesefest.

                                                            For the people turning who are hollow once again because of dlc and next patch. From what I'm gathering from when patches are drop, there is a trend of when a update will be released. I've noticed that it takes just shy of two months to release an update for the game (about 3-6 days off).
                                                            Predicting the DLC is harder as it skips trends from both DS3 and Bloodborne. From the release date of both games, it took about 215 days for ashes of ariandel to be released and 245 days for the old hunters to be released. As of writing this today (October 6th), about 243 days have passed since the release date of Elden Ring and possibility of a patch being released soon, hopefully. Predicting the possible time range of Elden Ring's DLC release or even the announcement is harder due to a chance of the DLC being another open world section or being generally bigger since Elden Ring is bigger in both audience and game sizes when compared to previous titles and their DLC's. There is also a possibility of DLC being announced the day before or of the next patch as it happened for DS3. That's all I got, now if you don't mind I'll just go waddle in my little corner and wait for the next patch and DLC, that's if I don't go mad first. Don't give up skeleton!

                                                              Just started a new playthrough a few days ago. It's just sad what happend to this game! Spirit summons are useless now. Oleg dies nearly instantly in every fight. Non-Boss fights included.

                                                                Sorry I’m getting back into the game after a hiatus. They ever fixed the bug in the catacombs where you open the boss door and you get attacked or try to attack something before the door message disappears you character locks up and can’t do anything other then run? That got me killed a couple of times in my last playthrough

                                                                  i think they shoot in their on leg with last update.. there were tons of people who liked corpse pile and bloodhound step in offline play like me.. and I just don't want to play it anymore.. I didn't update to 1.06 and I don't think I will in future.. maybe after dlc.. but why punnish offline players for using stuff they like just because some tryhards in online play? how is corpse piller such a problem but moonveil is totaly ok? Idk.. I dissapointed.. I'm glad I was able to reach ng4 before this.. I guess it's time for another game..

                                                                        Has anyone noticed a big drop in the damage done by their spirit summons? After all the hype around Oleg I used his ashes to see for myself, but the damage he was doing was feeble. I would have done a lot more myself with the FP I used to summon him.
                                                                        It doesn't fit with his reputation as being one best spirit summons, that's what started me thinking maybe Oleg or all spirit ash have had some sort of nerf in the latest update.

                                                                              I dunno if anyone can confirm this, but my cousin made the observation that spell buffs like Lords Divine Fortification and Lightning Fortification don’t stack now. Also he said apparently Golden Vow and Black Flame Protection also don’t stack.

                                                                                    after the update i logged in and after about 5 seconds it would boot me offline and say inappropriate activity detected. i verified files and it still said it. i backed up my files and deleted all my saves and it was still there. i put the saves back in and it was still there. after playing for about an hour while in offline mode, i exited the game to the start menu to reset a dung beetle location and it let me log it without kicking me out.

                                                                                              I read through every patch and really don’t know if there was a patch that decreased or limited the amount of golden rune drops from the humanoid bats. I was only able to farm them for a few minutes they dropped a few but then I spent another 30 minutes farming them and none of them dropped another one again. Hopefully the drop rate is fixed so I can help out my friends for levels.

                                                                                                  Left-handed held Dragon Breath moves still glitch out on their named variations. Cancels out early and has limited AOE spread function as a result. Real sad and highly awkward to keep planning around.

Co op is still broken with crashes and signs not appearing at random times. Melee weapon special abilities still cost less than actual magic while being 100% better. Invaders still spawn minutes away from the host. Rune farmers everywhere.

                                                                                                      This game definitely does need a huge balance patch, some spells like the oracular bubbles/ flame monk/ servants of rot spells are pretty undertuned; but some spells ESPECIALLY when ganking or even in pve are super oppressive. Mainly the cast speeds of the comets and high projectile number spells like the rancors can be extremely difficult to deal with when people spam while ganking. An even worse problem are the two overtuned katanas and the state of bleed weapons in general. No weapon should be able to insta proc bleed but powerstancing cross-nagis/ uchis/ scavengers cs; any of these can insta proc bleed with the right build with running/ jumping attacks. Poison is another undertuned mechanic that needs some love, definitely not unusable by any stretch but hard to make work. The general state of the game needs a lot of work and is far from unplayable, but the amount of people who think they’re some elden god going around spamming the same spell or AoW over and over is clearly a problem no matter how you slice it. All builds should have some viability, and a couple weapons out of the roster shouldn’t be undisputedly better than the rest. But that’s simply not the case as of patch 1.04.1 :/

                                                                                                              If you use aow Seppuku, and then use aow Holy Ground, then drink the flask of crimsonwhorl within holy ground. After that walk outside the area of holy ground and use holy ground again, stay(you can walk) inside the new holy ground for a few seconds. After that you will be FOREVER immune to elemental damage(magic/fire/lightning/holy),get healed by it UNTIL you die or backout the game.Some reported that you can't use law of regression to repel the bugged immunity.

                                                                                                                          will never happen but a massive Damage overhaul could make this game uncontested GOAT. One shot builds, OP weapon arts, and fights lasting 10 seconds makes for far less potential for interesting combat mechanics and as such much more playability long term. Worked great for DS3's 5 year run all thanks to functioning pvp.
